The west coast is specifically California is an great place to be homeless because of the weather, countless charities, and the states liberal policies. A lot of homeless folks move there.
+Bro Broing Sadly, homeless services and advocacy has become an industry with unionized employees and lobbyists to bribe politicians. They need to keep homelessness at high level to keep their industry operating. As you might expect, their effectiveness is about nil.
Some places consider it Trespassing on private property or loitering. I will assume that its to keep suspicious people from hanging around parked cars and decreasing the chances of theft.
+Ron Burgandy in the case of homeless folks, it's usually an act of desperation since they usually don't have a lot of money and will either steal to get money for stuff they need like food and clothes. Also the person sitting in parking lots may not be homeless, where I work there has been a lot of cars and car parts stolen from cars!
In this extra scene, VICE News spoke to a resident of Nevada City, California, who recounts what it was like to be stigmatized by her community for being homeless. Watch the Full Length - bit.ly/1ME5F6W
We do help them, IMHO the United States is the best place to be homeless. The government provides assistance, charities and churches provide tons of services and people have pity for them and will give them stuff.
+James Russel Have you ever been homeless? Without a car? and go here there and everywhere for some PB & Jelly? On your feet? Are you disabled? Mobility problems? How about just finding a piece of concrete to rest awhile? You have never been homeles - your head is up your ass
ptosis - I have been homeless and it is no fun. Walking for 2 days because no one would let me rest my weary eyes.. I found concrete stairs to sleep on but then a security guard said i can't sleep there even though it was a public space.. Police even have a kick at you when you are down. They make up some BS just to mess with you whilst you sweat about being in trouble. No one wants to help you out there let alone acknowledge you exist. Believe me, i know. :( There were even times when i just wanted to give up and die.. I can tell you this.. An act of kindness can save someones life. It can give them hope that not all people are bad and want to hurt them. i had a girl come up to me and give me a kiss on the cheek and that made me happy as i felt loved. like i mattered.. I know a lot of you feel uncomfortable walking past or even approaching homeless people and sometimes even scared of homeless people but there really is nothing to fear. Homeless people have their own stories and all they want is to be happy again. To not have to live on the streets and to feel human once again. When you walk past a homeless person, just think. "Who am i walking past today?".
Really sad. They aren't criminals, and I highly doubt most chose this way of life. Victims of an economic crisis, being victimized again by a system that just doesn't want to see them. It could happen to most anyone, at any time. I think people who help them with food or shelter should be commended. Even a garage will protect them from the weather, along with some extra blankets, and a warm meal. Can't imagine being on the streets in the cold at night, especially women and children. Go through all your old belongings and see what you can donate to homeless shelters. Homeless people need the same kind of things you do; warm coats, good walking shoes, back packs, clothes for kids (they outgrow them frequently), a gift certificate for food or other necessities at a local store. You're Christmas is looking lean this year; nothing compared to theirs. Volunteer at a local homeless shelter. You'll be glad you did, a very fulfilling experience, even if only once. Make this Christmas one of truly giving to those in need. You won't regret it. Our family won't be exchanging gifts this year, other than a few handmade items. But compared to many, we consider ourselves lucky. We have a roof over our head, and will be having a nice meal, watching some movies together, and playing games. It's refreshing in a way. Not having to try and find the gift for everyone you can afford and they will like. Togetherness is so much more important, what it's about; Loving and giving of yourself to other's, and that doesn't require money. Blessings to all, *Gazelle.
I live in Grass Valley unfortunately. It's a small town small enough that the cops get bored. If you ever get in trouble they all know who you are and will tend to give extra unwanted attention. Grass Valley is a horrible place to live for young adults, lots of hard drugs, isolation, limited job opportunities, huge lack of housing and no affordable housing. unfortunately this place is a dead end.
In New york being out in the park that is open can get you a ticket if the sun is down what the hell is that, legit after 5 PM i can get a ticket for being in a park. Who proves this laws? I am losing brain cells
Honolulu, Hawaii laws to hide the homeless include, 'no sitting on sidewalk', no standing within 20 feet of ATM, , there is no sleeping in the park, so the housless slept on the curtilage next to the road and sidewalk, change law to make the curtilage part of the park. Defined camping as sitting in a chair that has the sun shade on. Defined camping as using a 'pillow' such as a knapsack. But a tourist blackout on beach is legal. So use a 40 ounce bottle as a pillow. They have used these laws during a political protest in front of the Mayor's office in a effort to stifle political expression. Use Sand Island, a former concentration camp for Japanese American interment for the homes where the Sewage plant is to be used for the homeless out of sight.
***** That's harsh man. My father had a stroke in 2004~ and both him and my mother had to resign to take care of him. It was hard for us 3 to be living off 500$ a month for a few years, but I don't think we ever were in the danger of loosing our home.
American national politics are dysfunctional and depressing, and somehow American local politics manages to be just as fucked up. John Oliver has done some really excellent segments relating to US local politics.
Why would homeless stay in a right wing, conservative run country like Nevada County when SF, LA and San Diego actively recruit them for the Homeless Inc. "advocacy and services" not for profit industry?
100,000 homeless in one state? God damn! Thats insane
The west coast is specifically California is an great place to be homeless because of the weather, countless charities, and the states liberal policies. A lot of homeless folks move there.
+Bro Broing Bro I live in the 13th biggest town in Sweden. We have 98000 people in our city xD
+Dennis Sågström Yes well your entire nation is 1/3rd California's population.
+Bro Broing Sadly, homeless services and advocacy has become an industry with unionized employees and lobbyists to bribe politicians. They need to keep homelessness at high level to keep their industry operating. As you might expect, their effectiveness is about nil.
+Bro Broing California is the 3rd largest state in the US, and has the most temperate weather of the top 3.
Thank you for reporting on this topic. it's a horrific, dystopian, nightmarish, police-state that we live in.
Just sitting in the parking lot you can get tickets ? Wtf ¿
It will get worse in these last days.
Some places consider it Trespassing on private property or loitering. I will assume that its to keep suspicious people from hanging around parked cars and decreasing the chances of theft.
Ron Burgandy Last days before the comming of messiah Yeshua. Things will get much worse, your pets wouldn't even be safe.

Ron Burgandy Don't care if you think it's a myth. It's gonna happen whether you like it or not. Peace.
"California is home to more than 100,000 homeless people..."
Vocabulary fail.
Nah the homeless reside in the state so technically the whole state is their house lol
+Jebus Chris George Carlin was right about this: "Homeless" is a pretty unhelpful concept. This people are houseless.
People are home less in the first place because they cannot afford a home. Giving tickets to people who cannot afford a home is totally fuck**d up.
That's insane! You can't even sit on a bench?
just standart fascism, usa style
+xkird101 Well, is it standard style or is it USA style, then?
MarcianusImperator
in russia they have russian style fascism, in india indian style

What a strange premise - if I were a police officer I highly doubt I would be motivated to issue tickets to homeless people sitting on a bench.
She's right
Abuse isn't fixing the problem, maybe we should, maybe, actually help these people rather than fuck with them for no reason.
We do help them, IMHO the United States is the best place to be homeless. The government provides assistance, charities and churches provide tons of services and people have pity for them and will give them stuff.

+ptosis no I have never been homeless, but I have seen firsthand homeless people at their worst.

POLICE BRUTALITY
She resembles Melissa McCarthy. Sorry life is mean.
Did they fucking expect a homeless man to pay a fine
No. Some of these homeless folks will sometimes do it deliberately to have a place to stay during the winter months.
He's violating laws? You think this is a game enders?
This is a surprise? Everyone already knows the US is a police state!
The woman had a kid wtf is wrong with the police.
this is so fucked up!

In New york being out in the park that is open can get you a ticket if the sun is down what the hell is that, legit after 5 PM i can get a ticket for being in a park. Who proves this laws? I am losing brain cells

How does one go homeless if they miss a paycheck ? Does the whole america just live in rented houses with 100k debt to the banks ?

Why would homeless stay in a right wing, conservative run country like Nevada County when SF, LA and San Diego actively recruit them for the Homeless Inc. "advocacy and services" not for profit industry?
Uhmerca da Grate.. built for the rich, run by middlemen, against the impoverished (that's the message I keep getting)
