- Toss a Coin to Your Witcher, right? Great tune, terrible lyrics, that one? Yeah, in a collaboration with the amazing cosplayer & artist, Dani Banner (links to that collab below), I was commissioned to make this cover. While it was already pretty sick, we'd only made use of half of the tune and I wanted to take it juuuust a few steps further.
So here you have my finished masterpiece: Toss a Coin to Your Witcher augmented with some Renaissance-inspired refinements and decorations - not to mention a full string ensemble, including a viola da gamba, all played by yours truly!
It was a joy to put together so let me know if you'd be interested in seeing more work like this.

Got sent here from Netflix Witcher subreddit, this is excellent
Well then welcome to my humble corner of the internet! Thank you so much for the kind words!
Same here
It's so peaceful... The arrangement does seem more Renaissance now; I really love the embellishments. Also, it is really interesting to see hand inscribed sheet music (they've been doing that for centuries, but it's cool to witness it)!
*Pets for Your Cat*
Thanks! I wanted to give it a whack with some inspiration from older styles - it's definitely a hybrid and I'm quite fond of the result.
Fun fact: while people mostly do digital stuff these days, I've always had a fondness for writing it out old-school style! The only issue is that it clearly interrupts time when I could be petting and grooming Calypso
Sounds genuinely medieval - much better than a lot of these computer generated Bardcore songs that sound more like video game music; this is true Bardcore!
bardcore... thats a new one for me
As good as this is…. It doesn’t sound medieval at all lol
This is SO cool. Never knew a lute could SHRED
Finally, a lute that sounds like a lute
THANK YOU, that was wonderful... I lost my readers and was not sure what I clicked, but glad I did so... ;)
How does this guy have only 76 subs? He deserves millions
I totally agree
Ahhh, thanks you guys! Hopefully I'll get there one day!
Yes pls
Can someone please return this poor man to the castle someone obviously stole him from and brought him to the future? He is but a simple bard trying to make his way through a strange world.
I'm here because I'm reading The Name of the Wind; the main character plays a lute. I wanted to hear what one sounded like. What a beautiful rendition!
Tho the "Trouper's lute" in the name of the wind is more a of a mandolin/guitar according to the book description with 7 strings and even takes a jab at the older "court lutes" that are actual lutes. "Illien transformed the archaic, fragile, unwieldy court lute into the marvelous, versatile, seven-string trouper’s lute we use today"
This is how is should have been. It fits in with the books and games so much more than the original. And with polish it sound the best :D
This is lovely!!! I love the other instrumentals you added in there, thanks for showing your process in making this!
Thanks so much! And thank you for inspiring it all in the first place!
Reddit has brought me to this amazing place. Heres a new subscriber for you😊
God I need a lute. The guitar is great don't get me wrong but the lute is so expressive. Dude you destroyed this cover. That was so fucking good
Thank you so much! I totally recommend lutes to anyone and everyone, particularly now that they're getting affordable. But in the meantime, adjusting a guitar to lute tuning is pretty easy if you feel like messing around! Just capo the third fret and tune the g string to #f and you've got it!
It's so rich with emotions! It's very heartwarming, it even sheds a tear and gives chills down the spine.. Thank you kind sir! You deserve recognition, good luck!
Such a masterpiece, cant get tired of listening to it, great job✨
Thanks subreddit!😅 💖
Gonna use this for an NPC bard in my DnD campaign. Hope my players let him tag along for awhile
Marvelous! I couldn't think of a better use!
@@TheodoreCheek hey thanks, they're actually about to meet him in the next session hope all goes well. Thanks for letting me borrow the awesome music.
And also a gamba ! C'est le consort au complet :)
Criminally underrated cover that genuinely feels of the time period it pseudo representa

Beautiful! Thank you for this.
This is amazing! Thank you for sharing your talents to the world!
My pleasure of course! Thank you!
wow im literally your 500th sub btw love the tunes
This is amazing! I got a lute a few months back so I'm gonna definitely have to learn this. keep up the awesome videos!
Cheers! That's definitely the plan! Holidays and refining the old production pipeline have delayed things a bit, but we're getting back on track!
Awesome!! 👍👍
You're just amazing I don t have words to describe how peaceful your music is 🎶
Magnificent! Got here while searching if there is already a lute cover in existence, and lo and behold :) Glad I was right when I was suspecting that it is easier to play this song in a different key from the original due to the tuning of the lute (the original song was played on a guitar tuned instrument). This is very helpful for the aspiring bard, thank you!
Awesome!
Super cool!
Amazing job.
Love it~
Love the arrangement! Well done!!
So glad you like it - thank you so much!
So amazing!! 😮
Thanks! 😄Cheers!
Yay! Well done. :3 -Coconut
Thank you so much!!
I adore this!!! I would love if you could do you cover of burn butcher burn from season 2!!!!!
Ah yes, takes me back to my summer in Milan in 1543.
❤️
thanks for fixing it
This was in my recommended, so hopefully it will start to really gain traction.
Sounds lovely, and would be very popular across the Continent - I wish you had sung the lyrics, as well (Lord knows who wrote them). Thank you - such a treat☺ Sweet kitty at the end 💞
Lol just found myself in possession of an 8 course Renaissance lute. Figured I’d learn this song. Perfect video 😂
I couldn't care less about the Witcher but I'll take new lute music to play anyday.
muito bom
Sounds like it belongs in EU4
Nice👍
You need more subs.
Hi, Theodore amazing work ! I love it, would you mind uploading the lute tabs?
Hey! I'm a bit late on the hype train but this arrangement is phenomenal! As a learning lutenist myself, this feels so satisfying to watch, as it is way more accurate and true to character than the original arrangement! Is there perhaps any way one could aquire the tablature of this piece? I'd absolutely love to try it out! :)
This is so beautiful! Do you share your arrangement? I started playing the lute this year and am still a beginner, but - it would be so cool to play something like that someday!
Beautiful. Is the tab available somewhere?
Hi is your lute in the standard tuning? And do you have some tablature with chords written out so someone could learn this wonderful arrangement?
Oh my god i love you
I know you said this was commissioned, but what does it take to get a copy of this tablature? I have been searching high and low for this song and haven't found anything meant for the lute
Sorry for the long wait there, I'm actually scribing down at least the first copy now. I should have that uploaded to my website soon!
@@TheodoreCheek No worries, I'm just glad to hear back. Hand injury has kept me from being able to play for awhile now anyways. Thanks a ton for the info, I'll be sure keep my eye out
@@TheodoreCheek Has this been released yet? I wasn't able to find a purchase link on your website =D
Nice beard.
You look like a Viking!
I know i am a year late but do you have a published talbature for the melody anywhere, would happily pay for it!
How come a lute, to my ears, sounds so much more pleasant than a guitar? Honest question.
I think that's because a lute is way easier on the volume and more like an accompanying instrument (as well as the different strings it uses- gut string),, whereas guitar is made to be as loud as possible with less strings, which are made of a 'harsher' material, namely steel strings. I hope that answers your question xD
Now /this/ is it done right
What's the story with the 4th course of your lute? It looks like a single string.
Hey! Very simple story actually: it snapped the day before recording and I didn't have a spare to hand. Luckily, lute-making tradition graced me with a spare*!
*the one that's already there!
Do you have access to this tab anywhere?
Good to know I'm not the only one that thinks the lyrics are terrible and sounds too modern. Fantastic job here.
The very absence of the utterly cringe singing and lyrics made it lovely.
Goodness could we maybe get in touch (perhaps via Instagram?) so you'd sent me the picture of that tabulature??
It would mean the WORLD to me!!!
That should be going up on my website soon! Just need to finish scribing it well for a good scan
with a baroque guitar it would be perfect, but it's also beautiful
