Fantastic video! I recently became a fan of Bologne after seeing a movie, Chevalier, on a flight. Since then, I’ve been listening to his music and learning as much about his life as I can. Thank you for putting this out.

Perhaps the main culprit as to why Boulogne's music was lost is Napolean. However, as the music industry and academia pride themselves in being such scholars of music history and research, why none of them came across Boulogne is disappointing. Western classical music already has a bad rap of being very racist (the people, not the music). Has it not struck anyone as odd that we went to music school in college and learned only about the music of dead, white male Europeans? White female composers were not even mentioned. I remember a brief mention of Clara Schumann but no other women. It is only fitting that we examine Boulogne more closely as well as any others who may have been swept under the carpet. As for Mozart, there is no desire to take anything from his legacy. The only thing to take are the fallacies purported by academia. The music industry has dubbed certain motifs and musical passages as "Mozartian". But it has become clear some of the motifs and phrases were first penned by Boulogne which Mozart "used". Shall we now use the term "Boulognian"? Not just Boulogne's symphonie concertante in E major where Mozart pirated passages, it seems very possible Mozart was also "inspired" by one of Boulogne's string quartets (from 1771) when writing his Exultate Jubilate in 1773. How many more of Boulogne's works or any other composer's works has Mozart copied?

I'm watching this video after having watched the 2023 movie about Bologne. The account in the movie differs somewhat from what is stated here. This guy sounds like he knows what he's talking about I'm kind of suspecting that the writers for the movie made up a lot of stuff.

I'm not sure why you say that his dad was a jerk for shipping him off to France for an amazing education. If not for his father's support he definitely wouldn't have tapped into any of those hidden talents. I had a lot of interests as a teen, but never had the resources to explore them..

When I played classical music in my elementary, middle, and high school courses parents were calling me or visiting the classroom to compliment me because their children and youth were going home to tell them that they live classical jazz. I tried this with my college students. They lived it too. So, classical music is played whenever I’m teaching. Very softly. Very subtly. It helps students to be calm and they finish their assignments. There should be listening corners where students can go, to relax, and enjoy music from many genres. Watch the academic scores go up! Watch diversity in the classroom blossom! Parents will be contacting teachers with compliments, and not complaints. Bring the arts back! Thanks.

It’s about time. The music from the Afro-Caribbean and Latin American diaspora is under promoted. This movie, “Chevalier,” should be shown in as many theatres as possible. The story of Joseph Bologne should be taught in schools. Bring music and the arts back to pour public schools. Let all students have the opportunities to engage in these pursuits. Only then will the best and the brightest emerge from the masses. Countries thrive when the best and brightest stars rise to the stop. The issues surrounding legacy students and their legacy wealth means that poor, talented and gifted students often have to scramble for the “scraps from the table of joy,” instead of being assessed on their competencies. Hopefully, as news of Joseph Bologne spread more people will be inspired to help children and youth gain recognition. One can only hope.

I agree, how history has been shaped by bias or ignorance is truly a sham, when I was a kid in school I had some questions about things that I was taught in school but I didn’t ever really guestion my teacher s on these things it’s truly a shame that so many things have been changed I suppose many nations have changed their history to make them self look better but if people new the actual truth perhaps they will be different in the way that they interact with each others maybe not!but it would be good to know the truth about some things instead the lies that are spred
