I have a 21 5.3 LT Trail Boss. I agree with all of your dislikes. Especially the front black bumper chips. We’ve only had it since April and touching the nicks up already.
No engine issues with5000 miles coming up soon.
We have the Cherry Red paint and hope it holds up.
We live and travel in our Beaver diesel pusher so we have the trail boss set up to tow behind us.
Haven’t traveled yet but soon we are on the road again.

The keyless button is a trim level thing, it's an optional accessory for the rear doors to have the same keyless button.
But I agree GM needs to get with the program and have a true keyless system.

I have a 2019 5.3L 8 spd auto 4x4. My truck was having the tranny shifting weird. Gm flushed the tranny and reprogrammed it. The truck was ok for a while. It started shifting weird again. I was using 87 octane for 30,000 miles.
I had to drive MO to VA and thought I will use 89 octane for the trip. The shifting problem stopped for now and I got 18 to 20 mpgs.
It runs a lot better and my truck has a 6 inch lift with 35s on 20s.
Thanks for the video you're giving me ideas for my truck in the future.

The technology issues such as the keyless entry and the lack of a regular latch is the why I like that my truck doesn't have that stuff. Less complicated, therefore fewer things to fail. That being said, some of those features are nice.

I’ve been worried about my 21 Silverado 5.3, 8 speed ever since yours blew. 100% agree w you. I’ve had the backup camera fail twice since buying it due to a 30 amp “Endgate” fuse blown . They don’t have the new tiny fuses out for sell on the peg hooks (salesman had some behind the counter). Button on tailgate is gimmicky. Don’t like it. My Apple carplay messes up about 20% of the time. I do like my truck overall. It looks sweet. I’m proud to own it but I’m regretting not looking around at Ram or Ford a bit more.

First of all I just want to say that I love GM trucks. I have owned 10/12 ranging from a 99-15 model. My heart wants to go get a brand new 2021 Trail Boss but or AT4 BUT after seeing video after video about the lifter issue I just don’t think I ever will be able to purchase this generation. When you stated that you were “hesitant to take it to other states” that just is so disappointing man. You have a awesome basically brand new truck (cleanest 19+ on RUclips) but it is sad that you would rather take something on trips due to reliability….I hate that for you man. When you were truck shopping a while back I was really pulling for you to stick with a Chevrolet so it’s just disappointing to see you having a major failure at 5,000 miles. Either way man keep up the good content. I have been a long time subscriber!

I hate GM 4WD trucks!!! Why??? Listed below are the top 5 BAD things about the Chevrolet 1500 4WD Trail Boss truck (includes GMC 1500 AT4 and other 1500 GM trucks):
      1. Itty Bitty tires for a so called 4WD "off-road" capable truck (265/65R-18 ----> 31.6 inches tall and 10.4 inches wide) Really???
      2. Poor Approach Angle - truck unable to ascend a steep hill
      3. Poor Departure Angle - truck unable to descend a steep hill
      4. Poor Breakover Angle - truck often becomes a "teeter totter" on uneven terrain off-road (on a small knob hill)
      5. Low Hanging Frame Rails cause the truck to "high center" very easily on uneven terrain off-road
Numbers 2 through 5 are actually design and engineering flaws.....all BAD for 4WD off-road capability. If the truck was a 2500, I would have a Number 6 -----> IFS Axle - Poor Articulation. I did not include it on the list above for the 1500 4WD truck since the Ford F150 and the Dodge (Ram / Sheep) 4WD trucks both have IFS axles.
GM 4WD trucks might be OK driving on snow covered roads to get groceries or a few items from a home improvement store, but are absolutely PATHETIC on uneven terrain off-road, especially in mud and snow. I cannot understand why anyone would ever purchase one of these junk 4WD trucks again.

The door lock issue is because you have a lower end model. My AT4 has buttons on every handle. On the octane rating, you BOUGHT a 6.2. Higher end engines almost always need higher octane fuel. Dropping the lifter is solely on GM. This is why I bought the 3L Duramax in my AT4. Been great thus far.
Button on tailgate I love. I have a hard tonneau. I WANTED a tailgate that locks with the key. I have multipro tail gate and it works great. Shifter I agree on. The knob for the shifter is needed for self drive which is coming. I like a shifter but there is reasoning...

I just got a black '20 RST and I feel you on the rock chips they are very very small but still such an annoying thing especially for how nice these trucks are. I just moved from a '17 Silverado similar to your old Z71 and wow these newer trucks are a night and day difference from those, the old transmissions with active grade braking was terrible. So far the only complaint with mine is the rock chips I'm going to be adding a wireless charging pad in the stock center console just because. My boss has a High Country and tbh if I had the money I totally would get one, the rearview mirror being a display screen is wild and the truck comes with a ton of lane assist/camera options too along with heated/air front seats and heated rear seats. Very cool truck just a bit gimmicky for the price point.

Definitely like the factory black grill and bumper better than the aftermarket white. You need to figure out how to get that aftermarket front end to match what GM brought from the factory. Those blacked out front ends on those truck set them off with the way the painted fenders curve around the front when you see one coming at you on the highway. It breaks up the body lines when it’s black. Still nice though. Just my opinion lol.

Top 5 BAD things about Chevrolet 1500 4WD Trail Boss truck (includes GMC 1500 AT4 and other 1500 GM trucks):
The GMC 1500 AT4 would have an additional number for Poor Body Design...the square / rectangle / angle shaped wheel wells. Literally, the proverbial "round peg in a square hole" (round rim and tire in a square / rectangle / angle) wheel well. This BAD (terrible) design greatly inhibits the installation and use of large tires. Installing larger tires (35 inch or 37 inch) requires too much lift and greatly compromises the "center of gravity". More often than not, cutting and mangling the front fender sheet metal is required for clearance. At Least Chevrolet started to make more round wheel wells starting with the 2019 models.

Couldnt agree more with the paint chipping on front bumper. Mine is black and now it looks like youre staring at a night sky.

Not just for 6.2… my 2014 GMC Sierra with 5.3 doesn’t like 87. It does the dieseling effect if I run 87 when I turn the truck off. Motor will shake. It’s weird. I normally fill up with 93, when it gets to half tank I’ll fill up 89 and just rotate them when I hit half full.

I own a GMC AT4 6.2L and I thought the Trail Boss are the same platform from GM but a couple options are different from my truck and yours that you complained about 1. The AT4 has heated and cool front seats and heated rear seats and 2. The key less button on the front door hands are on the rear door handles of the AT4. It weird they would delete those two simple things between GM brands. It makes you think if there are other option that are different from the AT4 and Trail Boss.

That third brake light thing sucks for more than one reason. If you also have a sunroof, the body will flex over time when cornering and it will break the frame of the power sliding window and you'll have a leak into the cab of the truck. Then you have to drop the headliner to access the third brake light plastic and remove it to access the frame of the window to fix it..

@@TechniqueDOTexe He had the DFM delete already installed on his truck and yet the lifter still collapsed a couple of weeks later. It's possible that the lifter was already going bad at the time, due to defective parts or something. Bottom line is that those devices are not a guaranteed solution to preventing lifter failure. Sometimes it's due to poor maintenance and sometimes it's just shit luck, which is what happened on his part I think. They do help reduce the risk of it happening though.
