    Thank you, Chevy for building the truck I have been waiting for. Big V8, 10 speed, lift, wheels/ tires, dual exhaust, and that's ALL. I love this truck for what it DOESNT HAVE. No silly features you will never use, no hands free back up (I can do it myself, thanks), no over the top luxury car interior, no video game dashboard, and no fold away shifter that disappears into the console because...well, I dont know why it does that. Its a just great looking truck that wont cost you 75 thousand bucks. That Trail Boss package is great because you can get it on almost every Silverado, from the base Custom on up to the top trim level. That base Custom looks head and shoulders better than any other base truck out there.

      Amen! I've always been a Ford guy, and my 2011 F150 XLT is starting to show its age. FX4 package is a joke, and Raptor is way too expensive with dealer markups. After watching Ram and Chevy eat away at their sales with Rebel/Trail Boss, Ford releases the Tremor package, but again its way too $$$.
      In a year or two when I'm in the market for a truck, this will definitely be top on my list to try out, especially the Custom trim. It's got exactly what I need, and nothing I don't, as you said. Great job Chevrolet.

    I have this exact truck (except in shadow grey) and yes it stickers at 48k...but I got mine for 40k. Chevy is finally making more of this combination (Custom Trail Boss with 6.2/10 speed) so hopefully people can negotiate for a well equipped 40k truck. Also, the plastic steering wheel was the one thing I hated...so I bought a premium leather wrap kit online for 40 bucks and now I drive around with a comfy steering wheel, apple car play and satellite radio. I hope Chevrolet keeps pumping out this combination.

      I can’t seem to attach pictures but I’d be happy to email them to you. My truck, 2021 Custom Trail Boss, Crew Cab, short bed, 6.2/10 speed, Custom Convenience and Infotainment Packages, Dark Essentials Package and the complete floor liners front and rear (Weather Tech knockoffs) had a sticker of $47,955 or 48K. In December of 2020 the “Family First” discount got it to $41,596 without me negotiating at all. After a long Friday of negotiating they gave me another $1000 off about thirty minutes before close and I picked the truck up after it was prepped on Saturday. If you want I can email you the info and there are several ways to get the discount. Most people can get the GM Supplier discount from someone in their family. If that doesn’t work the law
      Enforcement, fire fighting, EMT and military discounts are there. If you do research on discounts before you go and stalk the truck you want while it is in transit to the dealer you can usually do pretty well. Just make sure the dealer doesn’t make up for a good price with your trade in or in financing. I also had that lined up before I went. They like to interchange the vehicle price, trade in and financing and when you think you have a bargain on one area...they change the number somewhere else. I like to work each part separately and lock them in to a number. So, get to a price on the truck and that is that... if you have a trade in they should be willing to be in the range Chevrolet has for your trade in on the online tool for the website. You won’t get the top dollar... but you should not get hosed either... the dealer needs to make some money... not gouge you. And finally, have some finance options and don’t let them ask you “what payment are you looking for?”

    I bought my 2021 Trail Boss in November with the 5.3 engine.
    It had cloth but I had them install custom Katskinz leather seats (I got to pick colors and stiching).
    With the leather seats and a bed liner installed I was OTD for just under $40k.
    Sticker does not mean squat on these you can get huge discounts.
    I did not get a leather wrapped steering wheel so I bought a custom leather wrap from wheelskins and stitched it on myself.
    Its thicker and higher quality than the Chevy leather steering wheel.
    Bought some NFab side steps that are rough powder coat black for $320.
    Installed a 12' sub under rear seat using a custom made sub box.
    Bought plug and play LED low and high beam lights for $70 and they improved visibility 300%.
    Truck is freaking perfect and I love it quite a bit more than my last 2 Tundras.

    For anyone wondering about the 4Auto system...
    The Autotrac two-speed transfer case has been used in the light-duty pickups for years, but never in a 2500/3500 until now. The MP3025 has heavier-duty internals than the MP3024 used in the 1500s, so it can withstand the delivery of the LP5's full torque in every gear. This also marks an "industry first" in the heavy-duty pickup market for an electronic, automatic four-wheel-drive T-case.
    Like the Autotrac system used in the 1/2-tons, the MP3025 provides automatic torque transfer (0 to 50 percent) to the front differential when the "Auto" button on the left side of the dash is pushed. The Auto-mode can be engaged at any time and is said to be ideal for most driving conditions. The other modes are: 2WD, where 100 percent of the torque goes to the rear axle; 4-Hi splits torque 50/50 front/rear; and 4-Lo splits the torque 50/50 with a 2.68:1 gear reduction. Shifting in/out of 4-Hi or 4-Lo has to be done when the truck is stopped.

    You should never use 4L to climb up anything steep with snow, mud, or loose gravel & sand/dirt etc. on the ground. You put it in “drive” & 4H when driving up a hill with slow, mud, or loose dirt/sand/Gravel, and you should try to takeoff slow so your tires will get traction easier. I’ve driven in the mountains my entire life logging, and you learn that Basic principle early on, but for some reason many people, including this guy, just don’t seem to know that. In 4L you’ll dig a hole by using 4L in the slow, mud, or loose gravel/dirt/sand etc. because you’ll have too much torque for those slick conditions.

    It's not too long. Adjust your line, add some momentum, have smooth throttle control, and a line you haven't dug holes in with the tires, and it would get up that snowy hill just fine. It's a rugged truck, and you can be more aggressive with it if you need to be.

    Nice review. Thought of doing one myself until I saw this one. You covered my exact vehicle except mine is Satin Steal with black out lettering. I did have a GMC Elevation with the Diesel. I returned it a few days later because it did not have the x31 package. It had nicer creature comforts, namely the Bose Stereo. Then I went and got my Trail Boss, Z71 with a 6.2 (wasnt offered on the Elevation only AT4 and Denali). I saved 5K and got a better engine and off road package.
    I do have a GMC Yukon Denali so the pickup is more of my everyday driver and the GMC is for road trips. As long as my Chevy has Apple Car play for navigation and music, I don’t need the 2K entertainment/audio upgrade. The Infotainment units in vehicles are constantly being upgraded. I think I saw a 22 in monitor in the new Tundra on a review today!

    How that auto 4 wheel drive works is it locks the hubs and the computer Senses wheel spin the 4 high will engage until rear traction is restored. Gm has used this system since the mid 90s and I have it equipped on my Tahoe 4x4 but 1 recommendation Don't use auto 4wd all the time you will burn the hubs out at highway speeds I know I learned from my mistake.

    Great truck, great review, but it’s amazing how inflation has really screwed pricing on trucks. I know inflation makes this appear more expensive but I still can’t believe a basic truck is cresting 50k
    In 2005, a Silverado Z71 crew cab 1500 with a V8 was around 35k USD. That translates into about 47k in today’s money. So even though the math checks out, it’s still a bit overkill I think.

    A friend of mine had a Chevy truck with an Eaton G80 rear locker. This was some years ago so maybe things are different now. But he complained that it would really “slam” when slipping tires caused it to actuate. This was especially true in snow. If he was gentle on the gas the locker wouldn’t activate so he would have to give it more gas. Then it would work but after an unsettling slam. I think I would prefer a switch to actuate it myself rather than an automatic locker.

    He keeps talking about a center differential lock, but this truck does not have a center differential. It's a part-time case that shifts in and out of 4 wheel drive as necessary when in "Auto", there is no center differential to lock.
    It's a part-time Transfer Case, by design it is locked into a 50/50 torque split whenever 4wd is engaged.

    • @dieseldrax
      @dieseldrax 3 года назад +1

      Incorrect. Go read about the Magna Powertrain MP3000-series transfer cases or the Magna Ultimax 4WD system. The transfer case doesn't have a locking center diff, but it does have an electromechanical clutch that can vary torque output or be fully locked. It is a full-time 4WD transfer case and is the same setup that Jeep uses in the Grand Cherokee that has full-time 4WD.

    • @trailrunnah8886
      @trailrunnah8886 3 года назад +1

      @@dieseldrax thanks for the info, I stand corrected. I guess I was half-right, about it not having a center differential. I was under the impression from another video I had seen on this that it basically just engaged and disengaged the transfer case via the regular mechanism, I didn't realize there was a clutch involved. Kind of like my old full-time Grand Cherokee ZJ, that had the NP249 which had a viscous coupling. Once the rear wheel spun, it generated in enough friction to lock up the coupling and send torque to the front. It worked pretty well until the fluid in the coupling got old and was basically engaging the front end all the time, it was similar to driving a part-time vehicle in 4 high on dry pavement. I ended up swapping out the transfer case.
