"I would drink the crap out of it" There's no doubting, this woman has been reading my diary. It's easy to enjoy the passion in this piece. Thanks, Maddi (can I call you that?), very well done.
Everyone who is interested in wine and how to taste NEEDS to watch this video. ZERO snobbery, just great common sense. This takes the myth out of wine and makes puts it within everyone's reach. Thank you for producing!!
Love how approachable, fun and simple Madeline frames up wine tasting (like a bad ass!) Kudos on your book too (Wine Folly - Magnum Edition)... captivating, informative and easy read for the novice to the dedicated!
This is the most effective explanation of tasting for a novice i have ever had the pleasure to see. Thank you so much. I work in a winery and trying to find simple ways to quickly explain a tasting to people is not easy.
She is a hoot! Funny, down to earth, has a great sense of humor and knows her trade. All the while she is not a wine “snob” like a lot of sommeliers are. Subscribed.
"I could drink the crap out of this wine" what a fun and funny host. I LOVE your book, The Wine Folly Magnum edition which I purchased during the start of the coronavirus (best purchase!) You are wise, approachable, full of great insight, visual! Looking forward to taking one of the video courses with friends this winter. Keep these videos coming!
Really enjoyed this - it's like watching a lesson by someone who seems like they'd be really fun to drink wine with! I have a copy of the book shown in the video and have used it more times than I can count. Cheers!
I adore what you and your team have brought to the table in terms of wine education and illustrations and information that just really help connect the dots and make things real for wine lovers. I'm also in the wine business in NYC; a certified sommelier and wine educator. I look forward to the day our paths cross in this wonderful wine world. In the meantime, cheers!
New to wine, and I started watching all your videos and became addicted to learning wine. So interesting. Medaline, Such a wonderful personality. Keep up the excellent work.
I have watched this a few times and keep getting something new to inform my palate. Thanks for the great content! "I'd drink the crap out of it" - ultimately the most important factor.
Funny thing is, as you started to describe the wine, I said to myself, "Elk Cove." Then you focused in on the bottle and, SCORE! BTW, I work in wine, and love it. Thanks for showing people who don't know a lot about wine the specifics. It's an amazing process to taste and enjoy.
Great video. I've watched thousands of youtube videos and this is in my top ten. Also, now I want to go out a buy a pullover with elbow patches. Cheers!
Just binge a slew of videos. Hooked. Subscribed. I recently purchased Wine Folly book recommended at a Winery and Los Olivos. Great book with infographics. Keep up the great work!
hello! i think im a little drubk. i'm tasting a 2015 meiomi pinot noir. i've watched a few videos on wine tasting because i don't really drink wine and maybe ive drunk a little too much but i don't understand why we describe wine. it's like dresribing the taste of a kitkat while you eatr it. mmmm kit kat. ive never commented on youtube beforw! this is my first because, of all the videos on wine tasting, i'd have to say this is the best one. lots of interesting info but you don't take the wine tasting so seriously. like you enjoyed just drinking. it was good. cheerrs
First of all, Hector, Papa Smurf didn't create Smurfette, Gargamele did. She was sent in as his evil spy with the intention of destroying the Smurf village. But the overwhelming goodness of the Smurf way of life transformed her. And as for the whole gang-bang scenario, it just couldn't happen. Smurfs are asexual. They don't even have reproductive organs under those little white pants. That's what so illogical about being a Smurf, ya know? What's the point of living if you don't have a dick?
Love love LOVE your videos and website. Just ordered your book (I'm receiving it tomorrow) and I can't wait!!! You've helped me learn so much about wine and made it more accessible. Thank you and keep up the good work!
newbie learnng to be a snob. The question i am left with after watching this video is you state that by following these steps one can assess the QUALITY of a wine. coud you perhaps define quality? IS it the balance of all these features? Seems to me that Quality is a persona; thing, much like: Did i LIKE this wine? and yet Someone else may think the wine I like is shitty. I do NOT have a French nose. I have a decidedly Polish nose. If a wine pairs well with kielbasa and pirogi then i am likely to like it (Alcohol content somewhere near vodka), I am starting my own home vineyard (4 acres) and want to learn to make quality wines that I like. I need to define quality better. Thanks for the video
I have this growing list of delightful informative and entertaining female vloggers. None are incredible; infact all have very high credibility! They are: Sabine Hossenfelder, physicist Twaedabae, mukbonger Wine Folly, oenologist I hope to find many more. Cheers.
The awesome huge French nose clearly makes a difference. I learn so much from this super perky expert, I could listen to her all day and sometimes do. Opening a wine bar in Thailand I have learned so much and realize how much more there is to learn. Cheers!
Loved the video! Very entertaining . . . oh yeah, and educational! Showed it to all before a recent wine tasting event at the house. It was a hit. It is a great way to get all in the mood for the event, to learn a little, and to not take it all too seriously (not that tasting a great wine isn't serious). She would be great to hang out with for an evening.
Hey Madeline, I came across your website the other day! Really wonderful website rich with illustrations and information! I'm new to wine drinking and I'm going to invest in your book :) Thank You!
I’m learning about wine and you were recommended to me as a great resource 😊 Love this video and the PDF you have. Thanks for sharing your incredible knowledge 🍷
I had a bottle of Nicole Chanrion Domaine de la Voute des Crozes Cote de Brouilly 2018 that had a huge aroma of raspberry sauce that you would put on ice cream. That was the primary smell and literally the primary. No secondary, no tertiary, all I got was that raspberry sauce. I was kind of impressed that I could pick out a sense out of the wine as I normally have somewhat of struggle time picking out senses in red wine. White wine aromas and flavors are easier, jalapeño and cilantro aromas in most New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, Peach, Granny Smith apple, honey from those honey stick, and a weird smell of parmesan cheese with my Dr.Heidemanns 2018 Splätese Riesling.
Can you do a video about how you quantify wine structure? A lot of times, I might say a wine has High alcohol and then someone else will say something completely different, and I'll second guess how I'm perceiving it. So a video (or even a small series) about the different sensations at each level (Low, Med-, Med., Med+, High) for each quality (tannin, alcohol, acid, etc.) would be really helpful!
Hi Madeline... Thanks for another great video. Your are so enthusiastic and knowledgeable about your subject. Thanks for sharing your joy and making wine more fun. P.S. Could you do a video that really gets into acidity in wine. Keep up the good work and Cheers!
first off you are adorable! second, there are thousands of wines from Oregon to consider, I know, I grew up here, you can't go a mile in any direction without stumbling into a winery... its awesome!
Very informative and entertaining. Thank you ! Early in the video, you were qualitatively judging the alcohol content based on droplet size. But I didn't hear you mention the relationship: larger drops --> higher alcohol, or larger drops --> lower alcohol ?
Sort of! It's kinda more like number of droplets and vicosity. All this being said, the Gibbs-Marangoni Phenomenon is affected by temperature and humidity in a room, so it's not an exact science.
Love it! Very thoughtful breakdown of how to assess a wine, in a very friendly manner. Great info and then: Yeah. I' d drink the crap outa that wine! Too funny!
Fun video. I have a question… at 6:13 “Glick”? Where did you get that from? I haven’t heard that since I was in HS. TBH… I still do it on occasion. I just haven’t heard anyone use the term, and when I look it up I find something completely different.
Awesome video! Worth saying that viscosity will differ depending on what time of soap you use to wash your glasses or even how you dry those. So if you want to compare wines from one another just be sure always use the same techniques to wash your wine glasses.
I just came across this channel a few weeks ago and I have to say this is really good I live on the Central Coast of California i spend a lot of time in the wine regions and I've learned a lot just by watching a few of your videos! And yes I agree you seem like you would be alot of fun to go tasting with! One question.... what is your opinion of stag's leap cask 23?
Glad you're digging the Elk Cove, I picked up a bottle out of interest to see what Oregon is doing with Pinot Noir, and I was floored by how well it stacked up against Bourgogne Pinots and WAY better VFM. I'll always have a love for Burgundy, but damn is it ever over priced these days.
You might have a sensitive sense of smell, try pulling the glass farther away from your nose until you can start to distinguish flavors. This is actually one of the hardest processes of learning how to taste wine. Keep it up!
Drink the same wine for a period of time, like 2 weeks, so that your nose and tongue are used to it. Then try a totally different wine and see how it contrasts. Then you may begin detecting variances such as sweetness, fruitiness, oakiness, tannins, etc. I've learned the most about tasting by tasting a whole lot of wine. It takes time!
This video is criminally under appreciated

I'd drink with her anytime!
This feels like sarcasm.
@@gretachin7656 no.. I really think she would be fun to hang out with
Oh yes
@toucantee haha. Not interested in dating her. Just want to see her work in person
1:37 In Hungarian we call the "legs of the wine" the "collar of the wine". Way less gross, and way more fancy sounding, if you ask me...
indeed!

Sunday evening, tried, cannot do anything, watching you teaching wine tasting, really calmed me and good communicator
Maybe the reason you're so stressed is because you never learned how to write a sentence. Try going back to kindergarten.
i love this channel. You remind me so much of my sister. Great stuff.
awe! I like your sister already!
your love and enthusiasm for wine is fantastic❤💯🙏🍷
