- Here's a look at the Japan only Resident Evil remake demo known as Biohazard Tokubetsuban (バイオハザード特別版), which means Special Edition . It was an in-store demo but a very lucky few got to win a copy.
I wanted to upload another short video because I'm in the middle of moving right now (had to borrow someone's internet).

Yeah I came across this totally by accident. I was visiting my friend who has an amazing game room. There was a book about every Gamecube release and the first page I happened to see was for game trials and they had this. When I got home to research it, they were wrong about every sentence! They said it was a preorder bonus and some camera angles were different ("like in the hallway"). But I couldn't find any.
I never knew about this. Great video!

To answer your question - yes - Resident Evil was on Capcom's 2002 E3 show floor playable in limited numbers, as the game was already out. RE Zero was the main focus, and also playable, along with the announcement of RE Online, later to be Outbreak.

I didn't even know this was a thing. I do think it's really interesting that you're coming across all these weird little things like texture jokes and obscure demos during your research for your REmake video. I'm really looking forward to that. Hopefully living in Japan gives you access to resources that other videos haven't even touched out (it definitely seems that way so far).
Finding this demo and the texture jokes was really surprising to me too. It seems like every facet of REmake would have been explored already. You're right, even just being able to search keywords and read enough Japanese allowed me to research this stuff. Even just finding the name バイオハザード特別版 was a challenge, but rolled from there.
And I'm glad to hear you're looking forward to the REmake video! The script so far is 8 pages.... and not finished yet. Some of it is really basic but there's some new and weird things.

Again, I watch these videos that go through "every version" of a game (and I've seen a few for REmake) and this is the first time I've ever seen this even mentioned! Absolutely fascinating.
I love that they didn't let you play the whole game, I am assuming it was common knowledge by this point even if you "lock" off the rest of the game with a timer, people will circumvent it somehow (like with Keo Flying Squadron) so its just best to gut the actual game and remove those sections.
It's kind of surprising how little info there is about this. REmake seems like one of the most beloved entries.
Wow, I didn't know about the Keio demo! It would be interesting for someone to exam all the files in Special Edition. The file size is exactly the same as the retail version.

If there is a way to disable the limited time in the demo, you may be able to explore long enough to see whether not there are certain differences between the demo and full release. Such as area or boss designs or even cutscenes playing out differently.
I don't remember a way to disable the timer, but I think I found an action replay code that opens all the doors, so I was able to see all the available areas. I didn't notice any differences but maybe I just missed them. But there very well could be!
I first read about this demo's existence from this book with every Gamecube game, and they got almost every single detail about the demo wrong. But one of the lines said it features unique camera angles (even providing a location) that turned out to be wrong too.
It always amazes me how you keep finding the most obscure stuff in this entire franchise. I would’ve never imagined that a $700 demo would ever be a thing. Ever.
Haha thanks! Well this one I found by accident in a book. And after looking it up, I noticed the book got almost every detail wrong about it! And yeah, fingers crossed one will pop up online for a reasonable price some day.

I've heard of this "extremely rare demo" or "a ultra high priced Resident Evil demo" for a while now but never knew what demo it was until now, but $700 dollars damn!😳
And the 2nd listing was closer to $800!
But who knows if there'll be another seller come along or what. I found a previous auction for like $350 I think that had 4 other trials, but even still that's crazy

@@raccooncitycinema LOL, I don't think the collector in me would want to let it go. At least not without playing it and digging deep into it. But if it's already been dumped online then I guess it wouldn't matter much.
Believe it or not, at one point I was absolutely obsessed with the BH series back in the 90's right up to the release of part 4. The change in gameplay and story line was such a huge turn off for me.
I was especially interested in versions that were different than the final release. I was one of the first people that posted online the majority of game shark and action replay codes that you see for the first 3 games on many websites back then.
I also sent footage on VHS tape to an old fan site (Surviv horror) that covered differences in earlier builds. I had at one point most of the guide books that you go over in your videos. I also have the demo/trial/sample versions of various games in the series.
Everything that you cover and others on youtube have done is something that I wanted to do back since 1997 but never got around to it due to so many obligations in my life. It's not until now that I have more free time. Even my username is a reference to the BH series since the 90's. Goes to show you how much of a fan I was.

On the same topic, could you shed some light on an early RUclips days footage of REmake? I can recall a few videos with titles in French showing web spinners on a mansion stairwell where they don't appear in the final game.

The book I'm reading for my next REmake vid has pics of web spinners in 3 places in the mansion (the dog hallway, Kenneth hallway and the broken doorknob stairs). Maybe it's the same?
This book also has pics of snakes in the main hall and crows in the broken doorknob hall too though.

I don't have any concrete info on it, but I can speculate that it was for testing, OR the footage was used to showcase the different enemies in the game (like how the book has pictures of wasps in the mansion and other creatures in different locations just to look cool or not spoil anything)?
@@raccooncitycinema That's probably it. I remember the OG and the Director's Cut having web spinners in some of those places. It makes sense they wouldn't like to spoil the scares while showcasing the enemies for the remake.

Trains are really unpredictable. Even in the middle of a forest two rails can appear out of nowhere, and a 1.5-mile fully loaded coal drag, heading east out of the low-sulfur mines of the PRB, will be right on your ass the next moment.
I was doing laundry in my basement, and I tripped over a metal bar that wasn't there the moment before. I looked down: "Rail? WTF?" and then I saw concrete sleepers underneath and heard the rumbling. Deafening railroad horn. I dumped my wife's pants, unfolded, and dove behind the water heater. It was a double-stacked Z train, headed east towards the fast single track of the BNSF Emporia Sub (Flint Hills). Majestic as hell: 75 mph, 6 units, distributed power: 4 ES44DC's pulling, and 2 Dash-9's pushing, all in run 8. Whole house smelled like diesel for a couple of hours!
Fact is, there is no way to discern which path a train will take, so you really have to be watchful. If only there were some way of knowing the routes trains travel; maybe some sort of marks on the ground, like twin iron bars running along the paths trains take. You could look for trains when you encounter the iron bars on the ground, and avoid these sorts of collisions. But such a measure would be extremely expensive. And how would one enforce a rule keeping the trains on those paths? A big hole in homeland security is railway engineer screening and hijacking prevention.
There is nothing to stop a rogue engineer, or an ISIS terrorist, from driving a train into the Pentagon, the White House or the Statue of Liberty, and our government has done fuck-all to prevent it.

Action replay? Can you play this on a US gamecube?
Sorry I can't answer because I've never tried but I'm guessing no, unless you have some kind of region changer. It works on Dolphin emulator or a softmodded Wii/WiiU

Not that I'm aware of. It also depends on region and how complete it is. Try checking pricecharting.com or ebay

Yeah, I already got 2 RE3 books! A lot of people been asking for RE2, RE4, and RE0 so I'll get to those next, but I'll get to RE3 eventually

Incredible. Could you imagine how much mystique surrounded those demo discs pre-internet prevalence? There wouldn't have been a great way for showing high quality gameplay footage online at that point, so anyone lucky enough to get one of those discs must've been a celebrity for a time.
Absolutely! It kinda reminds me of the PS5 here which is sold only through lottery. Anyone who gets one becomes known around my workplace haha. Even if it's their cousins friend's uncle.
A similar thing happens in Deadly Silence if you use a cheat device to swap out the character with Rebecca. I don't think she could leave the main hall, trying to interact with the any door just had her say "There's no time for that!" or words to that effect.
