Yawn got to the point where I wasn't even sure if that attack was still in the HD remaster! But yeah it took a long time.
The next book I'm thinking of tackling has a similar attack list, so if that is something people like I can probably do it again.
Man, this remake sure has some small details that you may not see at first glance. Mikami and his team knew how to make the monsters feel dangerous and grounded on a setting that you may not be familiar with, knowing that danger lurks at every corner of the Spencer Mansion.
Thank you for covering the Monsters segment of the Kaitaishinsho book! You really took your time with this part and how you covered all monsters along with Lisa's concept art! That makes her a lot creepier in hindsight! But for now, do get some time to rest before working on your next video in a month or so. It'll be worth the wait. :)

@@raccooncitycinema Yeah, one must wonder how horrified they felt seeing Lisa and the faces on her, knowing that those looks of despair and horror were the last things they had before they had their faces ripped off by her. Truly a horrifying fate for the ones who wandered to her whereabouts intentionally or not.

The biggest mistake of the remake: 25-60% headshot critical w/shotgun.
It should be 100%!
Haha well I believe the first shot always has 100% potential for a critical hit (according to Carcinogen in one of his speed runs)

Its so weird to me this remake came out 20 years ago, given my memory still holds the original ps1 as the one from long ago. Hell the PS1 original came out only 6 years prior to the remake.

As for the Crimson heads, they sort of remind me of ghost people from fallout new Vegas dead money. The ghost people don’t morph into something vicious but the ghost people cannot be killed and will always revive and keep attacking you until they are dismembered or disintegrated

Iunno when I stumbled across ya, few weeks ago, subbed right away cause I love this content. I haven't residented an evil in ages, but my kid is a teen now and we are running thru them together so I've been checking into lore and man you do not disappoint. So just wanted to finally thank you for all the hard work, and entertaining videos! I've had a shady memory of all the details and when my kid was asking lore questions I realized I really dont know the series as well as I thought and definitely had a few things wrong. Not totally related to this channel exactly but until recently I coulda sworn Leon's squeeze from degeneration was his partner in 6! I mean, same basic character arc and really not too far off model wise...but now I know that I didn't just loath one character,but in fact two separate ones. But yeah cheers and many thanks
That's so awesome you two can go through it all together and survive some horrors! I've got a 5 year old and a baby but can't wait until they're old enough to play. My older one has seen some of the books laying around and pretends to be a hunter or a licker haha.
I could be wrong but I thought they were supposed to be the same character! Can't remember the reason why they were made into 2 different ones tho.

Another fantastic video! It's so interesting to me that a game that is now 20 years old still has so much information we weren't aware of. Heck, I knew mashing buttons and moving the control stick helped but didn't know the C-Stick and Control Stick together was more effective. Also, it was nice to know exactly WHY I've always tried to avoid that snake by the ladder. I never noticed that it was a red snake before. I know absolutely nothing about Umbrella Corps but your videos are so informative and entertaining that I'll be looking forward to that video. Keep up the awesome work!
Those were all new to me too! This section probably had the most new tiny bits of info. I mean, how are we supposed to know being bit by the same snake will raise the chances of being poisoned?! Or the second zombie bite doesn't do damage?
I've only managed to play Umbrella Corps for an hour or 2, and that was enough! That video is gonna be a chore 🤣 But I've got some more exciting games first.

I can't remember if I said this last time, but I seriously hope one day you can get to the Silent Hill guidebooks because they are a mystery in themselves.
Silent Hill 2 has 3 guidebooks of it's own; all official (one of which was scanned and uploaded online, but the one called NAVIGATION GUIDE has not. I have no idea what this guide is, but I remember my friend bought it cheap on ebay, simply because the cover is absolutely beautiful)
From what I can tell these haven't been translated and I can only imagine the kind of secrets they may hide, especially since there is 3 of them and the one scanned online shows that it has pretty much an entire walkthrough so I have no idea what the other 2 entail.
I understand if you don't of course, I mean your channel isn't called Silent Hill Cinema haha.
Also, I love that this lists damage values. I commented on a recent Inkribbon video that the damage values in RE games are still super mysterious but it seems that at least we know now what a lot of REmakes are.
Haha yeah the algorithm picked it up once in April of last year and took me from 100 to 1000 subs in a month, then tossed it out the window. Oh well, maybe another vid will hit the lottery.
I've been planning on getting to Silent Hill actually but haven't looked into it. And you say it's online?, that's perfect! I'll definitely get to it someday. And thanks for letting me know!
Some of these guides are just maps and walkthroughs, so I'll need to look into them before I buy others.
I've actually got a few other Capcom series books waiting to go. I wanna get the Deep Fear and Seven Mansions guide some day too. I also have a quirky obscure JP only game totally unrelated to survival horror that no one will watch but I think it'll be so fun.
Oh, and for the damage lists, is that something you'd wanna see in future vids if it's in the book? And what about attack lists?

I'd love to see another Deep Fear episode! Personally I think these "translated guidebook" videos are such a great idea and I know other people do to. They just don't know you exist.
Honestly, what might be a good idea; is for your next video or whenever you can, to cover a really popular game. Just to at least get some exposure.
Your style is relaxing and interesting and if youtube isn't going to help you then you need to at least try haha.
Maybe Resident Evil 4 or 5? Both of those seem to be pretty loved by large groups of people. Hmm.
Fuck, maybe Clock Tower? I know since [redacted] covered it, the game got pretty well known on the SNES and I bet the Japanese guide is super interesting (especially because I got the S ending recently and the game swaps rooms, which was an utter nightmare to deal with).

Oh and YES. Please put the damage values for everything. It's super interesting to me. As a kid playing these games, the esoteric nature of the way damage and health worked seemed like arcane knowledge; never to be known. So the fact that the guides discuss it is just amazing to me. Peeling back that secret curtain.

Yeah you're right about more popular games. I've been thinking the same, so for my next vid I think I'll do RE2 Remake. It should coincide with the next gen upgrade timing. RE2R or Dino Crisis. What do you think?

@@raccooncitycinema Personally I'd love Dino Crisis, because that game is a mess of systems (none of which gel together in my opinion) so hearing what the guidebook has to say would be fascinating. (DC2 is an underrated jewel however) But it's probably best you do RE2R since that's still a popular game.
On a personal note, I have to say that whilst I played RE2R and really enjoyed my time with it. I replayed RE2 after it (for what has to be like the 20th time) and I can say without a doubt that RE2 is better than RE2R in every way. I can't point to an aspect of RE2R and say "yeah that worked better than in the original".
I know people will say "well the graphics were better" and yes on a technical level obviously they are. But the art direction for RE2R was absolutely a disappointment to me. The game lacked all the charm of the original.
I also know people will say that the controls were better as well, but on a purely subjective level I can't agree. RE2R gave you too much control and thus everything was indistinct.
Ask someone to draw the STARS office from memory from RE2 and then ask them to do the same for RE2R and I bet no one even remembers what the STARS office looked like. I know I don't. I just remember it had a draw with a gun attachment in it.

haha now that you mention it, I can only remember Weskers desk from the Remake, and everything from the original. I agree RE2 98 has so much charm.
I think you're right about re4 and 5 being the best choices to grow the channel though.
Not sure if you know but a hunter can kill you with one hit after being stabbed in the head. When they wave their claws it happened to me one time years ago. But haven’t been able to do it again

I thought I remembered uncovering that the elder crimson is actually George Trevor himself.
Afaik that's just a fan theory. it looks like he died a decade before the t virus was created. There's a chance his body could've been frozen. But afaik there hasn't been confirmation from the devs
The tea-room-zombie needs his own game and backstory.
Make him the final boss of RE0 remake and end it where RE1 starts 😁

Wild thing is that the guy is technically more resilient than the tyrant. You can kill him FOUR times including the barry cutscene and his crimson his head state, so maybe he really does fit as an end boss. Also he is the only zombie who retreats after realizing Barry was too much for him. He is a total freak even among the other zombies!@@raccooncitycinema

I'd never known about the Yawn hit kill on the second encounter, it's really weird seeing "rare footage" of a game I played so many times! Also, about the button mashing to escape ongoing attacks, that's pretty cool! As a kid, I always did it instinctively in every RE game, but was never sure if it made any difference. Only last year when I could get a legit copy of Dino Crisis and read the manual did I find out it really works!
Speaking of which, I think Ibis Island is not that far away from Raccoon City, so maybe some day... (;
I was starting to think it had been removed from the HD version it was taking so long! I tried for about an hour to trigger it during the first battle before moving to the 2nd one. The book doesn't say if it's specific one encounter so maybe its in the first battle too? I'm not gonna try again though haha.

There are over 100,000 known species of wasps, and hornets are one subspecies of wasps.
The nude, yellow, zombies always reminded me of the nude, freezer, zombie from Return of the Living Dead. I’ve always wondered if it was an homage. In the REmake lab there are even freezer cadavers hanging up with hooks in their heads just like ROTLD. “I HIT THE FUCKING BRAIN!”
Given the other movie influences, that wouldn't be too surprising if it was!

According to this book, yes. The only changes it says are the amount of items and number of monsters

Yeah they do, but the official monster name is "Wasp" but they're said to have been ordinary bees. In Japanese, wasps, hornets and bees are often all called "bees" despite having their own words. I cross referenced an older guidebook and they said "Wasps" were honeybees, so that's why.
And trust me, when I said wasps were bees I felt my brain melt a little

As for the volume levels, I still have to figure out how to use the equalizer on premiere pro and given that I have very Low vision, it gets a bit tedious using the premier pro workspace. Haha so their official English name is Wasp, but in the book they call them bees. In Japanese they call wasps bees even though they have a word for wasps, they don't often use it. Same way they call a rat a mouse, and a chipmunk a squirrel. They don't differentiate!

1 thing i never understood was everytime the characters get attacked and bitten they never turn. Why is this, thwy should have just been attacked and never bitten the animation of it i mean

It's when you rotate the control sticks and/or press the buttons quickly
-Why didn't you mention (completely forgot about it, I presume?) the fact that any crimsons (including the proto) get instantly one-shot if you have a flash bang and -*-let-*- them grab you? Sure, this won't work in Jill runs, since she doesn't/can't use flash bangs, but, still. Let them eat the flash bang, then they explode, and that's it.- Whatever, you've actually shown this *at the very end of the video* via the damage tables, but, still. Should've said it instead of just showing a mere pic.
Also, hunters are absolute pushover chumps IF you know what you're doing *and* you're good at it, as you can literally knife them out from mid-air *while* they're jumping at you, which at that point makes *immense* critical damage to them, so-much-so that you can actually knife down hunters absolute majority of the time without wasting any ammo at all. And there's also the fact that, in the past (can't remember if it's doable in the REmake, but it sure as hell was a thing in the vanilla), you could literally cancel their animations out if you were knifing them *during* their on-ground slashing attacks, at which point they try to redo the animation, and get cancelled again, and repeat the process over and over, so you could literally frame stun-lock them infinitely until they die. Same with dogs.
Please play with the original controls....these unnatural dodge moves hurt my eyes.
I do when I play but this is footage used to highlight specific elements or features and the most efficient way to do it. Do you know how long these videos take? I'm not gonna sit there trying to bait a specific attack for 15 minutes when I could use the thumbstick. I get one hour of free time a day.
