Very good presentation brotha! I think testing games on a person who is terrified of the horror genre is an amazing idea as well.. it should def be utilized much more often! However, presenting a separate theory on the reverse spectrum - funny enough, if that guy worked for Disney, I wouldn't be surprised if he created the whole thing by pulling ideas straight from the deepest darkest corners in the mind of the Mouse of Darkness. :P PS. It's awesome to see a youngin' like yourself dabbling in these literal historical video game classics! Way back when it wasn't just about the graphics... it was about the entire presentation. Resident Evil was so good, the cheesy dialogue didn't even matter and/or it worked to give a great B-movie horror vibe. Glad you aren't missing these hits! There's a literal treasure trove of games like this out there just waiting for you to play. I know the world is crazy rough right now for myself (just turned 30), and probably VERY rough for you being much younger (I can't imagine living in such a nutty world as a middle schooler/high schooler right now), but honestly... the 90's were lit. You'd have loved to live through them. It was so different, even the summertime sun looked different. If you loved Resident Evil, the 90's was full of bangers just like it. :)

Great video, really cool to see a younger gamer showing interest in OG RE. It's my personal favorite game. You played the original 1996 release huh? Not a variation of Director's Cut?
When RE released in the West, there was a popular heavy metal band named Biohazard. Capcom didn't want any possible litigation, so changed the title in the West to Resident Evil. I liked your video, keep up the good work!
it wasn't just that. they were spit balling names and it was also mentioned that a name like biohazard wouldn't sell to well to Americans. because the word evil sells real well in hollywood. they went with that name instead.
There is a famous hardcore rock/metal band from NYC called Biohazard. I think that is the reason RE couldn't be called Biohazard in America. Biohazard formed in 1987, nearly ten years before this game was released.
Great video! Just subbed and perusing your past videos, today. I've always thought Barry had the worst (or best?) dialogue, but felt his voice actor did the best job. His tone often matched the scene, and while wouldn't call his acting "good," it always seemed better than any of the other character, to me.
In the original Japanese game Jill and Chris were specifically labelled easy and hard mode so it wasn't unintentional! It was only later versions that also added easy and hard modes, so there are actually quite a few difficulty options really as Jill - Hard is still easier than Chris - Hard.
also resi 1 is the best resi, pro tip: dont look anything up, and just play the game, it might take you a min before you can play chris, but its worth it if you like the game later
10:39 i always assume she sprayed him with medicinal spray being as she is a medic altho they do work from a police station i just never considered pepper spray
Good video, I strongly suggest when you're cutting back to yourself you raise the volume for that footage or re record it with the mic you do for voice over. As a person who needs the volume at a certain point in my house it can be a bit of an adventure going back and forth with the volume when your voice fluctuates like that.
Regarding the naming issue, biohazard was a pc dos game in the 90s released by Apogee, which funny enough had to be called bio menance in other countries for copyright reasons. Also its a cool game , check it out!
The directors cut music is pretty bad. The composer was exposed many years later, as he claimed he was deaf and hard of hearing. I like the save theme though.
I've saw people go over deadly silence and the improvements, but like I said it looks and sounds slightly worse than the original. I also wanted a more pure experience.
Take it or leave it? I have both the original and the director's cut along with the remake. So, yes, take it. Take it all. I still find it funny that Shinji Mikami didn't like horror games but went on to help make Resident Evil and The Evil Within.
@@maxrabbit5910 no big deal. Great job on the video, by the way. I'm an older gamer and remember when this stuff first came out. I'm glad to see younger gamers able to enjoy classics for what they are.
Aside from the basement music, most of the Dual Shock OST is pretty good, if not better than the OG at time. (First Floor theme in Dual Shock > Anything from the OG soundtrack)
Camera/controls being all fucked up, Mikami: "this is scaring me!" Programmers: "this actually isnt intended, we still need to finish the code, but okay."
Even playing the game on Japanese import at time of that release, we quickly ascertained that Jill was easy mode and Chris was hard mode. In the original game there was no actual 'easy' and 'hard' option. You got the character with a default game setting. And that was it. I'd consider the original game a bit weird. In that it was hard to figure out at first, but the longer you play it becomes very very easy. Even with only one default difficulty. I sort of still prefer the original 3 Resident Evils over the remakes if pushed to choose Desert Island stylee. But then, I'd also sooner play Tomb Raider 1 than any Tomb Raider past Tomb Raider 3. Too much stuff added which slowly dilutes the actual fun of the game for me.
As for the name. Theres a metal band called Biohazard, and i think because of that. Leagally they had to call this game something else. So Resident Evil it is lol. Idk how true that is. But i, read that a couple of times back in the early 2000s and haven't heard any other excuse since then. Also that song is only in the greatest hits dual shock version of the game. If you get the normal director's cut, that song isn't in there.
Good review but I don't think the soundtrack for the Director's Cut Dual Shock ver. is that bad. Yes, a couple of tracks are bad (specially the one for the basement) but I found the rest of the OST to be really moody and creepy. I think both soundtracks are actually pretty cool and have their own vibes to them.
1st game has aged and the 2002 Remake pretty much replaced it, but I'd still like to see the original RE PS1 Trilogy and Dino Crisis 1&2 get remastered for both current consoles and pc. Capcom's Punisher Arcade game is finally getting an official home port, so, ya never know. As for RE1 1996, my favorite port is likely the Nintendo DS version due to the added content. Still doesn't have the uncensored intro cutscene, but it doesn't have the God awful Basement track from Dual Shock Director's Cut and Kenneth's death cutscene is uncensored. Shame Capcom didnt port RE2, RE3, and DC1&2. Are you gonna cover the other classic RE games? My favorite is RE3 Nemesis 1999.
Oh yeah. I do plan on tackling 2 and 3 some day, but you will have to wait for that for potentially next year and that isn't even a guarantee. Since these videos take a long time to make, but those game will be covered some day. Let's just say that I've got plans.
