- I recently got hold of the Biohazard Senyou Controller (バイオハザード専用コントローラー)by ASCII, and wanted to share my experiences with this lesser known peripheral.
Gameplay footage was recorded from a PS2 connected to an OSSC using a component cable and then to an Elgato HD60s. Игры
Funny mistake on the box: They called S.T.A.R.S. "Special Tactics and Service" forgetting about the Rescue bit. Just in case it wasn't clear, that wasn't my mistake
i know it is kind of off topic but does anyone know a good place to watch new movies online ?
@Caiden Angel Flixportal :)
@Gunner Riley thanks, I went there and it seems to work :) I appreciate it!
@Caiden Angel Glad I could help xD
Explaining an unfunny joke is pretty cringe.
This is super unique and cool. I love that it comes with "healing herbs" tea that's such a well thought out addition.
haha yeah it was such a nice touch, especially how they mimiced the herb colors too. And shout-out to the dude who kept them sealed in package for 20 years. I wouldn't have had the strength
I'm sure that tea is fine even though it's over 20 yrs past the recommended expiration date...
@@amyhoard1222 how was it

Cool, this channel is turning out to be a real surprise.
I consider myself a good fan of the series but I didn't know these special controls existed
Yeah there's almost no information about the International version of this controller. I just found out about it last year, too.
And hey, thanks for always stopping by!
This is so sick, I wish we got a special controller for Remake
Yes! I love REmake so that woulda been awesome. Who knows, maybe we'll get a new chainsaw controller for RE4 Remake
Why didn't RUclips recommend your channel sooner? I really like your content. Looking forward to more.
Thank you! It's much appreciated
30 bucks??? Damn... That's a great deal man. I gotta say, I found the channel recently and I'm really impressed. This is VERY unique stuff here. Thanks man
Hey thanks so much!! I'm trying to cover lesser talked about stuff here.
Biohazard stuff is pretty cheap here in Japan. I've seen copies of Zero for like 50 cents! I wanna buy Bio2 just for the stickers haha
@@raccooncitycinema wow! 50 cents? That's awesome man! But yeah your content is UNIQUE and I really appreciate that effort. Can't wait to see what's coming! And wishes of happiness from utah!
@@raccooncitycinema basically food it's more expensive than biohazard merchandise in japan... Interesting.
Had one back in late 90s. Thought it was the coolest thing ever!
Fascinating video, never knew about this! Thanks for taking the time to troubleshoot this with the various PS1/2 RE games!
I'm glad to hear it! And thank you, too!
Damn that's super cool. Underrated video bro
Hey, thank you! It's much appreciated
I read the swedish gaming mag Super PLAY (1993 - 2009 RIP) when I grew up and they often had articles about wierd releases like this controller. I remember (I still have all issues saved) their guide for RE1 with their own wording on each segment of the game. "Snake'en crawling" still gives me the creepes when I was reading about the snake in the game. I did not have a PlayStation (PSX!) until maybe 1 year after this game came out so I had to fantasies about it while reading the guide. Of course this was way before youtube and internet so the only images you could get of games was from magazines.
And ugh, yeah now about 25 years later I still play these games on my crt. Retro all the way!
Right on man, that's awesome you still got those mags! I know how ya feel, I wanted that Game Boy Color port of RE1 so damned badly, I put the magazine ads on my wall haha. Couldn't believe it finally leaked and is playable
Glad you got recommended to me man, your videos are great quality. And I had no idea about this controller. Looking forward for more!
Thanks so much! There's not a ton of info on this controller and couldn't find any translations of the box or on the tea, so glad people can take away something from this vid.
I never knew this existed! I've always played the original games with the D pad and action buttons. That was the most comfortable way for me to play them.
I think the d-pad is the most comfortable too, but for some reason Code Veronica feels right for me on a Dreamcast analog stick.
@@raccooncitycinema I agree, I first played it on Gamecube, and felt right at home with the analog stick. However when I swapped to ps2, I found myself playing the game with the D-Pad once again.
I really enjoyed this video, i just hate i found it this late because i bet the price for these are crazy now, but i appreciate how many games you covered for it. Great video.
Thanks, I'm glad to hear that! And yeah, prices now are insane. I just checked Japanese Mercari and there's one for 4500 yen and another one complete for 12,000 yen! So there are probably some out there for a reasonable price
Wow, wonderfully made video! Came here because I was curious about this controller, will now check what else you have produced :)
Thanks so much!! It's a pretty curious controller too haha
If you like RE2, please check out my video because there's some really cool exclusive info in there!
This obscure senyou controller looks cool enough to have as an collectable, you make great content for all things Resident Evil.
Yeah for sure! With the stickers and tea, it's great.
And thank you! There'll be more RE stuff coming soon
Just found this channel! Good shit man! I love it! Keep up the good work!
Hey thanks man, really appreciate it!
Superb work on this video buddy ... i didn't know this controller was a thing back in 1998
Hey, thanks so much man! Yeah surprisingly it's stayed pretty unknown all this time
hope you get big in youtube scene, your content is very good my friend
Thank you so much! Hope you will enjoy what's coming next
Never heard of it. Cool
Great review!
Hey man thanks so much!!
What an fascinating mix of good ideas and bad ones!
hahaha I really wanna use this sentence to describe things from now on
Wow! Why have they never distinguished the up/down and left/right like this again? I really like that concept.
I still have this controller in the original box.
Oh cool! Do you have the international version or Japanese version?
Damn found a new good youtuber 🥰
Thanks again!
Oh wow, did it come with herbal tea? Awesome!
Yes, as funny as that sounds! Easily my favorite RE collectible
Thanks for explaining the D-pad, i just bought one and thought it was broken! haha, thank you 🥰🥰
Haha no problem, glad it was helpful. Enjoy the "new" controller!
i saw this on ebay and i was curious how it works. thanks for the video
Hey thanks for watching! Hmm, now to check prices on ebay
Love how you use footage from Damnanation and REmake for the jokes about the expired tea lol
I once wrote an article about this controller but I couldn't find one to actually test that was within my budget. This video definitely taught me things I didn't know. It's awesome you were able to test it on the PS2 games.
Also, your channel is cool! I'm glad there's another RE/Biohazard channel, and one that covers lesser known stuff like the guidebooks. Will you be doing videos on the two RE Archives books?
Haha thank you! Out of context Re quotes are so funny 🤣
Oh cool! Which article did you write? It's surprising how little info about this there is out there. I probably already read it.
And yeah, these books are a gold mine for cool little details! I haven't thought about covering the Archives books because they're already in English, but considering how hard they are to get maybe I should. With everything that's in those books it'd probably be a 100 part video series haha
Cool video, take your sub sir
I'm curious about how the tea actually tastes. I've seen this controller before but never knew it came with tea bags unless the English one didn't
Me too, I don't think I'll ever open mine. I don't think the English one came with the tea either, I've asked a few people who said they had it but didn't hear back yet
It’s definitely a cute collectors item . But it doesn’t seem like a must have for fans. Either way it was interesting and thanks for sharing!
That sums it up nicely. After a year with it, I find that the rearranged buttons just mess with my head too much to use it since I switch between so many RE games on different consoles. Np thanks for watching!
Intresting. You never know what you might come across
yeah for sure! I love browsing Mercari for Biohazard stuff, learn about all kinds of stuff. Latest find will be in the next video
i think ill buy one just for that reason
You got a subscriber
Thank you! Your support really does help!
Just save up some of that green tea... After 2020 you just never know anymore...
lol! I think it'll stay sealed for the time being
I'd like to try that herbal tea.
haha me too, but I can't bring myself to open it after all this time
Oh you mean because it's like a collector's item? That I understand.
yeah as a collector's item
I think they advised you point the controller towards the TV like a gun, not sure if that was a good suggestion or not.
haha Can't see it making any difference!
I really want to try this, besides, there is a lot of fan games with the classic gameplay. How does it work with RE 0 and REmake?
Yeah, it'd probably be good for Dino Crisis too. It's only for Playstation 1, so I don't think it'd work for RE 0 or REmake
@@raccooncitycinema Yeah, I totaly forgot about Dino Crisis. It could work on PC with an USB adapter, or maybe the PS3 ports for RE 0 and REmake
@@Silverteamx gotcha, that'd be interesting to try!
Still have it 😝
That's great you got one! Do you have the RE pad or a Japanese one?
So this will work with North American consoles as well? :O
It works like a regular ps1 controller so it should be region free! I only have JP hardware here so I can't confirm.
i dont play much these days but i may have to find one of these just because lol
haha and hey, maybe it'll give you a reason to revisit these classics
Yo is this a limited edition product? Cuz I never heard of this controller before.
I didn't find any info saying it was limited edition. It's hard to find much info on it at all...but it is pretty old so
Should try this with a playstation controller to usb converter to try the games on pc
Yeah that'd be interesting to try. If it works with the HD mods might be the best way to play!
Did I just stumble across an RE channel that’s actually good? Huh
Hey thanks so much! That's high praise!
@@raccooncitycinema
You’re welcome :)
The difference from starting resident evil 2 on the standard ps1 remote and upgrading to just the analog seemed world changing😂megaman legends especially became a lot better to control wit the analog...i only used a few bootleg turbo controllers from a brand wit the word catz or kats katz, in it..wildcatz or some shit.
Hahah oh man, you mean Mad Catz! Yeah I had an N64 controller from them and I think a memory card for Dreamcast that sometimes saved 🤣
So it works with the US version of Resident Evil?
I don't remember if I tested it, but it should work
I had this when I was young. The UK/European version anyway. I found it utterly horrendous to use.
Oh cool! Do you remember if it came with any stickers or bonuses like the Japanese one?
And yeah, that's understandable if you didn't like using it, it's hard to adjust
@@raccooncitycinema I don’t recall any special stuff. Certainly not in the box with Leon and Claire. I actually played RE1 when RE2 came out as there was no way my parents would let me play it when it first came out. I bought the game for £30 with birthday money and the controller was £5 if bought with either 1 or 2.
@@MyJoejoejoe Ah, gotcha. That's really interesting to hear, thanks for letting me know! Not a bad deal either
You know that there's an American Version of the Controller, right?
Yep, as I said it's called the Resident Evil Pad. Looks way more expensive though...
Lol tea bags as a extra/gift
haha yeah, so random. But they did a great job making them RE themed
This would be a good controller for kingdom hearts if it had thumb sticks..
oh yeah? Never played it and don't know where to jump in
@@raccooncitycinema if you were to start (which I highly recommend) I’d start with kingdom hearts 1 and play them in release order.
ok, thanks for the input!
Might aswell back yourself a chainsaw controller and enjoy the aim function that it has!
I'm afraid to even check prices for one of those. (>_
Hows the tea i prefer mint ones
haha I couldn't bring myself to open them unfortunately.
stopped watching this video when he didn't know what Stars meant.
haha I was pointing out the typo on the box!! The box is missing the "Rescue" so I left out the R, check again
Guess you missed it, so maybe I should pin a note
you mean resident evil
It's unfortune that the US model is so hard to find and so overpriced when available. Because theu changed the control schemes for the localization, the Japanese pad inputs don't match.
I'd love to go back in time and buy the GameCube chainsaw controller while I still had the chance too 😅
Wtf and 30 bucks for all that?
You can get some great finds on Mercari in Japan!
Or overpay for a rare Biohazard book that smells so bad it gives you a headache like I did..
Sorry, but the chainsaw controller looks ridiculous with that tiny blade. Like a baby tool-toy.
haha can't unsee that now. For me, the ridiculousness is part of what makes it cool. But I'm weird.
This thing looks horrible lol
haha it does look like a monstrosity birthed from the Arklay labs.
That's also why I said it was surprisingly comfortable to hold because it looks so awkward
2nd dislike! I’m not playing any games that have Japanese calligraphy!
You can play it in English... And I translated the box and tea so you DON'T have to read Japanese. Is that deserving of a dislike?
However, I appreciate you telling me the reason.
The Japanese versions are the best
