- (note) if you are going to use a hammer be very careful so you dont crack windshield or put something on windshield to protect it. all parts of your windshield wipers is very important for visibility and safe operation of your vehicle. This video shows you how to change out your windshield wiper arm, which can sometimes get bent, stripped, and cause your wipers to not make good contact with your windshield.

Mark the post top, then down the threads and mark the wiper arm one continuous marking to replace the arm easily. I would not recommend using a hammer against the windshield, it may work. But it may not. Metal and glass

Splines and a tapered shaft
BTW, that's a nut, not a bolt you removed. Also the groves on the shaft are called splines, not rivet thingys.

Some penetrant on the splines could be helpful if you have time.
I really appreciate this video. I consider myself pretty handy and I had my wiper motor go out, I changed the motor and linkage. I can see everything working before I put the wipers on but as soon as I put the wipers on, the wipers don't move. The motor is working and the linkage is trying to move but the wipers jump but they don't move. Any advice? I can't believe wipers are getting the best of me.

I need the nut that holds the wiper arm on mine keeps getting loose
I don’t recommend the hammer I did it and cracked my windshield but I used the fancy tool and took it off just remember when removing the arm you have to lift the wipers and pull

So after doing this I bought brand new wiper arms, that dont have the spline pattern already tapped into the hole where they slide on. The stalks of the wiper transmission of course do. Is it same procedure or am I then going to strip the stalks on the transmission? Not sure how to attach them…

Brilliant! Maybe put a pad between the hammer and the glass.
For those cracking their windshields, throw some cardboard and a rolled up rag anywhere you might hit the glass. There is no reason you should be breaking windshields with this method?

Hi, can someone please help me I’m desperate I have a 2004 Volvo XC 90 I have done this exact procedure but when I turn the wipers on and they stop they keep stopping in the up position. I’ve been working on cars for 20 years and I cannot figure out why the hell it’s doing this??????

I am having a hell of a hard time finding windshield wiper arms that have the rivits, I've got a 2000 blazer, and all the replacement I've found no longer have rivets.
