    I don't know who else has figured this out... But for mine, I use the paddle shifters on the steering wheel to adjust the regenerative breaking like when coming off the freeway. This charges up the battery so much, and especially when combining with how much braking you're doing I've gotten up to 55mpg in EV mode cruising around town. Engine will turn on every so often to recharge the battery, but I can drive/survive longer in EV mode if I'm smart with my braking.
    Pro Tip!

    I've had my 2019 Accord Hybrid for a few weeks now, and I love it! I leave Eco mode on and haven't noticed any issues. My daily commute is a mixed 30 mile round-trip that is part town driving and part 65MPH highway. I usually have to stomp the accelerator on the highway part at lights because people are nuts to get moving, but in town I ease it in a bit more and sometimes the engine doesn't kick in, or does for just a little bit. I've been averaging 40.5-41mpg, which is great because I live in CA, where gas is stupid expensive thanks to over a dollar/gallon going right to taxes. Side note: I have the EX-L trim, so leather seats, the nice radio and the Lane Keeping Assist/Adaptive Cruise Control. It all makes for a comfy and very kick-ass looking vehicle. No worries about power, either. If you need to get up and go - that 2.0L engine will get up and move you.

      Is this also with the stock/low rolling resistance tires and wheels? I'm in SoCal myself considering one of these.

    • @1wasinAlpha
      @1wasinAlpha Год назад

      yeah if you're full-throttling, engine doesn't do shit till it hits over 120MPH, remember engine is connected VIA single speed clutch, so at full throttle engine will be screaming at redline to make as much electricity for the electric motor as possible. It's the electric motors that drive the car. So redlining engine can only be connected VIA single speed clutch at near the top speed, where the engine will both drive the front wheels through the clutch and generate electricity for the electric motors that also drives the front wheels

      @@willtorres7250 from what I can tell with all the reviews I've seen, Honda made a lot of improvements to the hybrid Accord and gives you a lot of features from factory now. The only thing that I really wish they wouldn't have done was shrink the gas tank as my Accord has a 14 gallon tank and I can average over 640+ miles to the tank regularly.
      Otherwise, this one is an all around improvement.

    Good review on a great car. I recently bought a 2018 Accord Hybrid Touring (in Modern Steel), and LOVE it. The engine is smooth, it is plenty powerful when needed (I unintentionally spun the tires pulling out into traffic), the eCVT is smooth and always ready, and this car is quiet. However, I will say that the 47/47/47 mpg rating is not accurate. I got 55.7 mpg city mpg today and average in the HIGH 40s and low 50s when combined. It has so much technology. Everyday I'm learning new things it can do. This is a FANTASTIC car. Great looks (MANY compliments on the color and the car's looks from friends and strangers), superb quality and a quiet and luxurious ride. And it's a FUN car to drive. I may have to add stabilizer to the gas tank since I go so long before filling up.

      @@user-qt7xd6cq9g I hope you’ve figured it out by now, but if you haven’t, here’s your answer: No you don’t have to charge the battery yourself. The regenerative braking in the Accord Hybrid uses the generator to convert the kinetic energy from braking into electricity, and another way is that the engine runs and spins the generator to recharge the battery when you’re coasting.

      In the initial part of the test where we scored 3.7L/100km (63MPG), the air conditioner was off and it was just the driver in the vehicle. For the rest of the test, we had the air conditioner turned on (30°C+ temperatures), and a total of 5 occupants throughout the test, which affected the fuel economy by +2L/100km. We will be reviewing some Toyota carsin October, so do check back then! :)

    Bought my new base trim 2019 hybrid model a year ago for just under $21k (basically inventory price). 30k miles and never taken it to the shop for anything other than oil changes and a tire rotation. Range varies depending on the weather, driving conditions and your driving style. In the summer, peak range is ~610 miles, and in the winter ~440 miles for me. If you're able to get a good deal like me, than hands down its a steal. Only downside is you will have to pay separately for the spare tire.

    • @jamesbeta8614

      MPG is worse in the winter, since we need to run the heaters for the cabin. On my 2014, in extremely cold weather (say, -15 C.) the dash says "Extreme cold weather - engine power reduced" , and that sticks around for maybe 15 minutes until the engine warms up.

They started checking Singaporeans' fuel tank before they crossed over, and if they came back with more fuel than they left, they would get in big trouble!

    Couple days into ownership now of my '19 accord hybrid. Getting about 35-38 mpg average with 80% highway driving at high altitude on highways with some decent hills to traverse here and there. If you really are going for absolute mpg I'd rather of gone with the Civic Insight instead but the room of the accord is super nice so not a bad trade off, but I don't seem to get close to the claimed 48 mpg. My driving is doing cruise control as much as possible and using Eco mode and avoiding large stomps on the gas so pretty relaxed driving to try to maximize fuel efficiency. Just my own experience, but this sucker totally destroys my Toyota Tundra haha so its a HUGE improvement gas costs wise.

    • @brickw8599
      @brickw8599 5 лет назад +9

      It is NOT a CVT but rather a "eCVT". Totally different. It is an electronic transfer of power, by electric motor. Honda didnt have a good name for the new technology so they called it a eCVT, because it is a simulated CVT. The gas motor is for supplying electric power to the electric drive motors and Big battery. No tranny fluid either.

    41. 2 mpg is not even close to the 47mpg rating! I drove 750 miles on my 2018 and it got 41mpg for highway trip dallas to denver. Sucks. very disappointed. :(

    • @jfeliciano2687
      @jfeliciano2687 5 лет назад +3

      I think car and driver said that the fuel economy numbers are figured around 60/65 MPH, at 75 they got an average of 42 which is expected as it's outside of it's "optimum operation range". Same thing with my 2014, I get 35-38mpg at about 75 when it's rated at 45 if I'm not mistaken. Best tank I got in mine was 48mpg while being mindful not to go past 65mph on the freeway. think I might get a 2018 just because the figured don't drop as far on freeway driving.

    • @blublum7916
      @blublum7916 6 лет назад +6

      The clarity starts at 33k. The Accord starts at 25k. If all you care about is gas then by all means get the clarity, but I honestly think the feel and look of the Accord is much better and worth the extra gas.

    • @ripleyp2002

      The Clarity is much more unattractive. It has that ‘Hybrid Look’ especially with the wheel well covers.

    • @Trades46
      @Trades46 6 лет назад

      Probably because I'm spoiled with the Outlander PHEV, but a plug-in despite it higher starting price with EV tax incentives it comes down quite significantly to similar prices to regular hybrids. Factor it the fact 90% of the time you can operate in full EV mode you get charging costs of about ~$1.25 per day charging at home & if possible at work. Within 3~4 years factoring in increasing fuel prices you'd almost break even by then.

    • @Trades46
      @Trades46 6 лет назад +1

      I pay $0.07 per kWh off peak. Factoring delivery fees & etc. it comes to about ~$1.25 (that's being generous, it is closer to $1 in reality) on a 220v it takes about ~2.5hrs for a full charge from empty - the Clarity charges even faster than my Outlander PHEV.
      Electricity is SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than regular unleaded - that's not even up for debate. The only place in the world this doesn't hold true is probably Saudi Arabia where gas is cheaper than water.
