@@briwilton4343 1. Actors are hard to get a hold of and she is working on another great show on HBO called Succession (you should watch it it's great) 2. This is based on Price's writing and he did not read or see Mr. Mercedes and wrote this Holly to be independent from the Holly in King's work.
@@ninethreefivesix I just feel as though she doesn't give the real holly gibney justice and does not correctly portray the character. If i wouldn't have seen Mr.Mercedes i'm sure i wouldn't be as disappointed lol Justine Lupe just did such an amazing job ! I will have to watch Succession :)
and spoke is chopped sentences, and was about 50 yrs old. She was 45 yrs old in Mr. Mercedes. I listened to the book. But hey, I also watched the TV series. Why stay true to the novels?
Cynthia Erivo is a good friend of Jason Bateman that's how she got the part. I like her character but never read much with Holly Gibney in it so I don't know how alike she is from the books. From what I've read this version is not like the others and she was white originally. I still gotta say I like her quirkiness and her paranormal expertise in this adaptation.
MacReady69 I don’t get why they made Holly a completely different woman from mr Mercedes to The outsider. I didn’t even catch it until I listened to the audiobook
She is good but as adapting the character. One her character is built off the bill Hodges trilogy and her time with bill and outsider is afterwards and the next book if it bleeds she is the main character on her own investigating and from what king has teased Ralph finds these recordings. There are 2 on screen versions of holly one on the mr Mercedes show based on the original bill Hodges trilogy and this show the outsider based on what I call Holly #4 and if it bleeds will either he #4.5 cause it's a novella or #5
So with Holly being black in the HBO series, will it be considered racist if Jerome calls her "Holly Berry" in the "If it Bleeds" sequel that HBO got the rights to?
I feel like only if you’re 30+ you didn’t enjoy her holly I’ve talked about this show with some people on my age group and they loved holly as much as I did
It confused me hearing her name in this show. I always thought she was grounded in the Mr. Mercedes trilogy but I was wrong. I guess I need to read more Stephen King
@jonathan wakefield So what we are supposed to just invent new roles for colored people and distort the characters just because "all actors deserve equal opportunities"? Believe it or not we are not all born equal and movie industry shouldn't act as a social service.
@838vuks Different show but this makes me think of “The Wonder Years”. I’m not a racist person but The Wonder Years show I grew up with, the entire family was white and with this reboot, they choose to make the entire family all black? It’s not what we were raised with so why make a reboot totally different than the one it once was? I haven’t watched the new reboot because it simply isn’t relatable to me. Again, I am not racist, it’s just something I picked up on and have wondered about.
I love Holly. Her character and mannerisms are fascinating.
This really doesn’t seem like Holly, she’s to confident.
Yeah it is interesting
too black also
What happened to Mr. Mercedes holly
I loved Cynthia Erivo as Holly but I have a huge crush on Justine Lupe as Holly
I'm loving the show. But after tonight's episode, I hate the portrayal of Holly. Nothing like the book and the Bill Hodges trilogy.
I find this Holly Gibney much more fascinating than the Holly Gibney in Mr. Mercedes (series on tv)
Could not agree more ! I think they should have used the same holly gibney from Mr. Mercedes

Only know about this show and it was sooo fascinating when I saw this character on screen
This is nothing as how she was described in the book. She had bangs, short hair, slim body, etc

I don´t think, that it doesn´t matter, how the character looks.
❤❤❤❤ loved this the actress playing holly is clever and smart and very intelligent and very strong character 🥰 😅😅
I am fascinated by Holly and how she functions...can't wait to see the next episode!
This woman is FANTASTIC! I could watch all the series with Holly Gibney. This series is wonderfully creepy and enthralling.👏🏻

This isn't Holly Mr Mercedes Holly is perfect! They should have made her a different character Poor portrayal!

She's a good actress. I don't like race swaps ever. Wouldn't want Jerome to be white and don't want Holly to be black.

She's a great actress. Yet. As far as Holly goes. I think Justine's is way more accurate

The amount of time they spent on her quirks almost made me give up on the show. But I'm hanging in there.
I can’t see Holly as any other way anymore. When let it bleed came out out she’s all I saw.
Am so into the show! Can't wait for the next episode. Cynthia Erivo is killing it as Holly. And also shout out to Bill Camp as Howie
I feel like only if you’re 30+ you didn’t enjoy her holly

Put Episode 4 promo pls
This actress overdoes the charecter.
100% agree with you
Real holly is OCD and self depricating and scared and unsure and awkward..but brave and doing her best and intuitive x
Not the right Holly for the job. Disappointed.
What’s this show about, exactly?
olivia twyst supernatural murder mystery
Justin Lupe is more like the book version of Holly. This woman is so not fit for Holly.
Holly isn’t even remotely compelling as a character in this show. It made the show way too corny for me.
Great show and great Actress.
I don,t want to be that guy but why does this something problem with this race casting
just wow
Um so Holly changed from Caucasian to African American? Ok then.
Terrible casting, it has all became constant diversity preaching and positive discrimination in favor of black actors.
@jonathan wakefield So what we are supposed to just invent new roles for colored people and distort the characters just because "all actors deserve equal opportunities"? Believe it or not we are not all born equal and movie industry shouldn't act as a social service.
You have a point. The Gunslinger was and never should have been black.

I agree. Look at all the failed Disney remakes x
But strangely I don't that she is a feminist...
