Okay, one of us has face blindness because Solas looks IDENTICAL to me. The only issue i have with Varric is that he's not a redhead anymore, and in general the only artstyle choice I hate is the smooth Qunari...

Varric is in his 50s now, he's allowed to start going grey after a likely stressful 10 years 😭. He reminds me of one of my older friends who used to be a red head and then gradually went brown with grey streaks.
Also agree with the qunari, I hope we see some more variety among them and more rugged-looking qunaris with the next stuff they show.

i really loved the DA2 dialogue options! glad theyre bringing it back, also the combat sure does look the same half turn based, but better baked, still kind of an interactive cutscene though, i like how you can command the others instead of trying to micromanage 4 characters in a big area along with their own AI, lets hope it holds up
also, varric 100% reminded me of geralt from that trailer at first glace, yes, youre not mad i promise

One thing about the yassified characters that has kinda brought me over on them. They're meant to look like the style of the tarot cards, they're painterly, and in that context I actually kinda vibe with that sort of thought process. They certainly do look much more artistic than they have in previous games and while I kinda don't really hate it or love it I can very much understand where they were coming from. I think as well that this sort of style gives characters more vibrancy to the ways they can appear in different types of lighting, from reading how much time they spent on getting the skin right is kinda wild how much sheer effort they have put in to making skin as beautiful as possible with skin changing in different lighting.
Plus, Egg still looks like an Egg so all is well

The only thing wrong with this trailer is it's placement in the marketing cycle. Inquisition's 'The Breach' trailer was very similar in tone but came much later. It'll work out fine, the game is dark an gritty. We just need more of that to be shown.

    • @aceofblades6574
      @aceofblades6574 Месяц назад

Yeah this is 100% my issue with the current marketing atm. I liked both the trailer and this gameplay reveal but the trailer especially felt really out of place. I think it would have worked much better if it was released in the middle of the marketing campaign after perhaps a story trailer and gameplay trailer, where some intrigue around the companions has been built up and we want to find out more about them. I'm sure they'll find their footing with the marketing but it's a shame that they've stumbled a bit awkwardly with the first impressions.

I still don't understand the negative reception to the companions trailer. I love every second of it (& yes, I've been with DA since 2009) & watched it countless times already 😅 it's the same artstyle as the 2020 teaser narrated by Varric.
I do appreciate you commenting on the art style of the inquisition trailer and you're right on that. It also goes back to DA2 & Origins, the cinematic trailers were always a little out there.
What was a little unfortunate with this trailer is that it didn't really provide a good introduction to the story other than good people unite to fight evil. To draw new folks in a story trailer would've made more sense and then the companion trailer at a later point.
Regarding the companions: this is the first time since DA2 where I'm extremely interested in every companion so far. DS2 is my absolute favorite because of the characters (and because combat felt the most fun out of all 3). I like the companions in DAI the least (still like them though) and I'm excited to get to know them better. 🥰
Coincidentally, Vivienne is also one of my favorites form DAI xD

To Varric though, friendship is everything. The fiber of his strength, despite the stoic charming roguish storyteller he is. Solas's frustration is super understandable considering he sees his people as "tranquil" because of his actions. Your reaction of your egg head is funny even though you visually see the dread in his face when the elven gods drop in behind him. Dragon age 2 is super underrated, for sure. i think Inquisition was too open world for what the other games were. Interesting video, i got to stick around to check more out. Oh don't forget this is about 8-10 year post inquisition and i think they've even out the funny proportions of character and items too.

I played Origins 4 times, DA2 9 times and DA3 7 times. The cinematic trailer didn't really get me super excited but after the gameplay I'm quite optimistic. I love that they went back to the dialogue wheel - can't wait to make a fully sarcastic MC. I hope they will give us an option to load our choices from the previous games, like who stayed in the Fade, who became the Divine, etc. They confirmed that the Inquisitor will be back and we'll be able to customise them like Hawke in DA3. So, I'm cautiously optimistic and can't wait for more reveals.

I feel like a old grumpy person as I seem to differ in opinion to others for this game. Why.
Because to me this gameplay reveal looks bad in so many terms of a Dragon Age game.
Too much action combat (towards something generic).
3 skill slots only (like in Mass Effect:Andromeda which was insanely limiting compared to previous games).
No party member control options except ordering them to use their skills (again like ME games).
    No tactical view.
And even though this is a curated reveal of the start of the game it still worries me.
You barely have dialogue as the mc. This had more of a action game cutscenes feel (like Uncharted) than rpg involvement in talking.
There is excessive posing to look "cool".
Certain scenes like the fire demons just jumping around to look again "cool" without thinking that does it make sense. Why none of them attack you is odd.
The energy shield that got destroyed by poking the red crystal in the middle (worst barrier ever).
And after 9 years since Trespassers events, Solas grand plan is destroyed by moving a support beam for a statue.
It just doesnt feel like a Dragon Age game anymore.
This feels like a generic action game with some rpg sprinkled on top and set in Dragon Age universe.
Bioware is talking a lot of positive things in press interviews but the actual game looks dumbed down and streamlined for the masses.
    Edit:
Your reaction to this reveal is actually the most in line to my opinions and worries so far that I have seen.
Really happy to see that there are others that value the older DA games and what they offered.

      1. combat was very action oriented in da2 and post da:o
      2. this is on console, every console game (even da:o) has only had three you can switch out, i believe they already said there is more
3&4. fair though even though i like those features too watching majority of players play not many used them
      5. why does it worry you?
      6. a lot of the dialogue has usually always came from companion convos etc. in dragon game past da:o, these are big plot points that will likely be similar since it's the start of the game... but you still have already gotten one major choice with taking harding or neve and that may play out differently, but it's hard to judge from this about the overall dialogue and a lot of dialogue you didn't get an option for was origin specific dialogue which makes sense
      7. i say no posing except for neve which they introducing her character???
      8. stuff like this happened in da:i and mass effect 3, i believe a lot of it is to show all hell is raining loose but you don't need to tediously hit every single thing but go back to those games and look for it because it's there too it's to give a 'bigger' vibe, msot modern games do this
      9. lol agreed but it's better than tediously taking down a shield
      10. it's not destroyed, it was messed with just like cory's orb when solas' plan was messed with but this time i think rook made it worse by releasing the evanuris
and your opinions aren't really unpopular but i do think some people have nostalgia glasses on for origins which isn't as practical for a modern audience, that games combat was SO slow (i'm re-playing it now)
for me, there have always been things i like and don't like about every dragon age game and the same will be about this one but as long as we're getting world building, impactful choices, get to see our choices from the previous games, bond with companions/great character like that's the thing most important for me
i know everyone is different and have different aspects they like about these games so you may value different things than me but so far, my hype is up
one thing i really like is it seems your backstory does matter and more characters talk about it instead of it being ignored for the most part but obviously i'll have to play the whole game to give my whole thoughts on what's good and what's bad but yeah, just try it out if you have the means to buy it and see how you feel

      @CrimSolitude Месяц назад

@@nightfrost1891 I will wait for reviews and opinions of the game when it is out. At the moment though this game is sending vibes of a direction that I do not like.
      1. Post DA:O games have moved towards more fluid and action, that is true. But the games were still in a ok middle ground for me. Veilguard has crossed my tolerance line though (constant flipping around, dashes, dodges and jumping in combat + reactionary combat instead of tactical). I personally like more slow based combat with fantasy games. Mass Effect I can understand as it is a 3rd person shooter. But DA was not this originally. The shift is unfortunate to me.
      2. Inquisition still had 8 skill slots. Im worried about the amount as this reminds me of Andromeda which was such an annoying experience in terms of skills.
      5. I am worried as this game is completely different now from where the series started. You can improve and enhance the DA:O experience for example to make it modetn. Veilguard though is almost in a different genre at this point.
      6. Your party members etc. did talk a lot but I checked Inquisition start before posting my comment. In DA:I even early game you are already asking things and having more moments to choose your lines (like 2-3 times more at least). Veilguard though you barely say anything. True that character creation choises might be the reason. It just sending now the wrong signal to me. Before knowing more.
      7. The were other moments too (Neve had at least 3 in total and was the worst with this). Others moments are more subtle. I get that live service cool moment traces that this game was originally trying to be.
      8. Modern games do it but it does not make it good. One demon came behind Varric and passed him. Did not even try to hit Varric whi was easy prey. To me its cool visuals over things making sense.
      9. Barried had no point. Maybe to teach breakable objects to the player but you can do it better.
      10. Ruining Solas plan like this in the first mission just feels "meh" when we have waited 10 years to continue the story that Trespasser left us.
      11. DA:O might be dated but slow and tactical gameplay is still for modern audiences too. BG3 has proven that.
      12. Rest I agree. Those are what I like in Bioware games. Why I play them.
What rubs me the wrong way is the gradual tonal shift of the gameplay and other things. Especially when there is a section of the fanbase that still is hungry for the tactical game style.
And I wont be buying it unless I see proper gameplay and things that I like. If I buy a game that I do not like, just to see if I might like, is telling Bioware/EA that what they are doing is ok.

The gameplay footage was just really bland looking to me, especially after coming out of Baldur's Gate 3 that hits the ground running really hard and keeps the player engaged from start to finish. Veilguard doesn't do that. Or at least I don't get the impression that it does from what Bioware has shown.
