From the moment we stepped foot into our Airbnb here in Rome, we knew something was wrong, but we had no idea the disaster it would turn into, or that it would force us to evacuate! Find out why in today's video. We've all heard airbnb horror stories like this, but it's something else to live in one! We know things can go wrong with any property, but how it's handled makes a huge difference!

How kind of you to take the time to make this video about air b&bs based upon your experiences. Thank you for your honesty AND humor in sharing what happened in your 1st air b&b in Rome on this trip. You were gracious in sharing the non-service the host demonstrated! I’m guessing he’ll either be fired by the owner or at the least, have to pay her the $$$s lost because you had to be refunded!
Wow, and y’all are still smiling ❤. I did get evacuated from a hotel once, that had water from a tub overflow into the fire alarms! It was crazy - I did get a refund, but it was a bad night! I’m glad you found a new place and got it all resolved.
Oh my goodness!! What a crazy experience y’all had! I’m so sorry you had to deal with that. I am a big believer in reading reviews myself. Not so much airbnb but I have hotels and always when purchasing something on line. I will read their return policies as well as peoples reviews. Let’s hope going forward you have smooth sailing! What an experience with your AirB&B. Unfortunate for sure, but if you think about it, with all your traveling in the past 6 months, this is really the first disaster you've had of this kind. Not too shabby. Glad it's all resolved. Can't wait to see some horror stories in the chat!!

Disaster story- Stayed at a BEAUTIFUL cabin in Big Bear, CA. There was something that definitely died under the kitchen sink, the "jacuzzi under the stars" was GREEN and when they sent someone over to clean it, we literally watched them pour a bottle of bleach in it, and the pack and play looked like someone was murdered in it- just covered in old blood. We were so disgusted but also exhausted with 4 kids. We walked over the million year old, gross red carpet to get our kids to bed. We layed down to watch a show on my phone and then.... MOTHS. They might have been attracted to the light, but they were attacking our FACE. Even after I *almost* fell asleep, they were landing on any skin not under the blanket. But it was a hot summer night and the AC "was broken". Mind you- this place was not cheap...almost $300/night! I just about had it when I woke up the next morning to find a moth dead in my hair and moths down by my feet UNDER the blanket. We reached out the next day, again, and their response: "It's moth season. Totally normal". That host got a review of a lifetime!

We stayed in a VRBO house once that was INFESTED with mice. Contacted the host who said “just put some traps down” 🤦🏼♀️. Meanwhile, mice were running across our feet while using the bathroom! It was awful! Our dogs also ended up with fleas from that home. Far and away our worst experience

What a nightmare! Thanks for sharing this. I always look at the pictures and think what a great place and when we get there not always what the pictures look like. Glad to see that AIRBNB made it right with you. But, I would definitely ask for your money back.

My friend just had a disaster through a different long-term stay site. The person was subletting and was taking the earnings herself and not paying the apartment complex. The police came to evict her but my friend was still staying there. My friend had a long-planned trip with me going on that same week and the subletter came to move all of her belongings out while my friend was away on the trip. The furniture was rented through a different company and the lady hadn’t been paying for that either. It was a whole fiasco but luckily a neighbor was able to rescue my friends belongings and return them to her, and my friend is safely back home now.

Sorry this happened to you😢. Thanks so much for sharing. I’m looking into travelling next year 2023 first travel ever overseas& thankfully some of my family have experience. I am reading/researching like crazy. Saving up at present for the trip☺️so hopefully get to see other countries besides Australia.

Oh wow what a nightmare, so pleased AIRBNB have refunded you and you are in a much better place. I think that host will be losing his contract with the owner. This video will definitely help those that are travelling and plan or are using AIRBN xx

Wow you must have patience of a saint, I would have asked for a refund straight away. I have only used Airbnb once my experience was good. Hoping to use it again in England next year.
I had to evacuate my Airbnb in Budapest in October because they didn't have a "stink valve" on the toilet, it was unbearable to the point of health concerns, we checked into a hotel at midnight and the owner was pretty good about and gave us all our money back in cash and said he fixed the probable. sometimes it just doesn't work out.

I am glad they you learned the lesson. Definitely give them not so good review and the host. So people don’t experience it. My parent was host of house we owned. They recommend booking ahead during seasonal times.

A few years back I was in an AirBnB with some friends in Brussels. The appartment was okay, not perfectly clean but just ok. Untill the first morning, when we discovered bed bugs walking all over the couch/bed and the wall. Lets just say we left as soon as we could and all of us felt itchy, kept checking for bites and washed our stuff like 3 times when we got home

I love AIrBB never had a bad experience. One lesson I learned is to not go by the price first seen is usually the current price on that day, click on the entire ad and note the dates you are needing the place and the price may change to a lower amount, if it’s booked out or off season. ❤
Oh wow.... What a nightmare! I'm sure the worst part was to handle the non-responsive host! I mean, things in an apartment can break, it happens all the time. But if you feel, that the host just doesn't want to deal with it, it must be horrible. Until now, i must say,we always had good experiences in our Air B'n'Bs... On our last holiday in Croatia, we had the sweetest lady as a host. On our last day, we asked her, if we could check out a little bit later because of our flight. She said, we could stay as long as we want without charging us for another day, because we were the last guests of the season. So sweet!🥰

Wow, what a nightmare dealing with this airbnb. I would've left after seeing the mess and booked somewhere else. With me, if I see that, it's totally not acceptable to live there.
We stayed in an Airbnb in Panama city, Panama. New host. It was 36th floor penthouse windows top to bottom, gorgeous! The air conditioning was broken on the master suite floor and it was so hot out. It turned into a huge issue trying to get it fixed. We slept with the doors open. The views were incredible though! 🤣
Only used airBnb a handful of times myself and no real horror stories personally. However one of my friends did have a bad experience in Tallinn. The plumming of his bathroom got blocked and he noticed this when all the s*it and other drainage water/stuff came and flooded the bathroom when he was I think showering or went to the toilet and flushed.
He was out and in a hotel very quickly.

We travelled though Italy, and we loved Venice, Florence, and Sorrento but even though we enjoyed Rome the hotel we stayed at was not the best and it kept having blackouts, this did affect our view of Rome even though we tried not to let it
Hello guys! I just saw your video and felt very sorry and ashamed being from Rome myself, but at the same time wasn't at all surprised.. my family owns an airbnb just at the corner where you guys went..(i'm assuming in via capo le case) and being the few ones that personally manage the apartment with care, believe me we know!! .. so Rome's situation is as follows: People that own property in the historic center do cheap renovations, and literally "abandon" their houses making other people manage them- and these people obviously don't care much since probably they are managing more airbnbs and get payed very little. And, everybody knows that very few people "really care" when its not your own property. Also, The higher situated apartments do suffer from a lower water pressure, but common sense would be at least to put a pressured shower head for example (obviously you had a different issue there!!). The big mistake most guests make is to let these things go by , writing a review that doesn't force these negligent airbnb hosts to up their game.
So, since most reviews don't get into negative details, chances are they will ruin the next guest's experience, and the negligent host will go on like nothing happened and will keep earning money like they deserve it. I'm sure the guests that went in before you, had the poop/fly situation as well (does't look like that happened overnight) but why didn't they mention the scarse hygene issue?? BAD HOSTS NEED TO BE EXPOSED, the tourist's experience is of absolute importance. Read reviews. Be honest when you write them! Hope your next Rome vacation will make you guys forget this one!!

😳😳😳 Playa Del Carmen AirBNB 2021. My husbands first trip out of the US. We were excited about taking a day trip to Tulum given the fact that we paid out the 🍑 for a car rental & had very limited vacation days. We pack up & get ready to head out the door.. The door handle breaks off with a gentle turn. We are locked in until late afternoon. Grand time 😂

A few years back we stayed in an Airbnb just outside of London while visiting England and as soon as we entered the Airbnb we immediately noticed a smell! Let me tell you, the apartment was full of black mold!!! Since we were on a budget at the time we kind of had to stay there... We opened all the windows, slept with our cloths on on top of the bed no sheets and left VERY early in the morning... We gave the guy a terrible review and had a great day in London. haha

If the host asks you to book outside of AirBnB's platform or doesn't want to communicate via the app, run!! You want documentation of everything. If something happens, AirBnB can't help you if you didn't book through them. AirBnB can't verify, at least not easily, that the host was a joke if you are communicating via Whatsapp. I know you all know this, but for other viewers.

When I was in an Airbnb in Wales I got a visit from the Baliffs. Thankfully I didn't open the door had a chat told them the day I was leaving and asked them to come back after that. They agreed. I contacted the owner and told him to pay his bills as soon as possible.

We stayed in a super cute historic home in Fort Worth Texas for our wedding anniversary after a late night out, we were rudely awakened at 6 am to the sound of people scrapping paint off the walls outside of this historic house. I literally open my eyes and the windows above the Curtains I literally see two men on ladders working on the house, scared to death that luckily I was decent. But we called immediately the hosts and she said she “forgot” to inform us. We cancelled the rest of our stay. Got a hotel near by and luckily got a refund. But it was totally weird. Oh and the other was we were moving from Houston to Seattle I booked dog friendly air bnbs along the way found a cute “ tiny home” the pictures were great ended up being a tiny house in some old guys back yard behind a Wendy’s in Oakland California. The owner invited us to smoke week with him, we kindly declined haha in poured rain that night the ceiling leaked all over our bed, there were spider webs everywhere! We left at 5 am haha slept like 2 hours

I think Rome just has horrible plumbing lol! We stayed at the Grand Hotel de La Minerve and our room smelled like poo so bad. We of course moved rooms but did spend 1 night in the poo 🤢
explore Indonesia, lots of good and satisfying accommodations. explore with harley crossing to java island. first banyuwangi visit ijen mountain, after that bromo malang, continue to solo and yogyakarta. longer in Yogyakarta to enjoy nature and culture. After that, continue west via the southern route to the city of Bandung, a beautiful city with the name Paris Van Java.
What you could do more for European & and Asian followers is to translate feets, inches and Fahrenheit’s to metric system and Celsius. After all 98% of World’s population are using those.
Seriously?? There are worse things going on in the world than expecting someone to convert measurements that they know and use, just so that you don’t have too. It would be like a vlogger being expected to speak English when they speak Japanese 🤦🏼♀️
After seeing conditions like that, I would have sued them. If they knew about this before you even checked in, they should have at least warned you so if you wanted to find another place to go to. I went to Rome once with a friend but we stayed in a 5 star hotel. We had good conditions. Well, I hope you guys had found a better place or at least gotten the problems taken care of. Next time make sure you know what you're getting.

We've stayed in a few...only in the US but did realize there are also scams out there. Also fell into one in New Jersey. So we tend to go through Mgmt Companies so we can talk to them easily about the place. We've stayed in wonderful places, Ocean City, NJ, Aspen and Panama City Beach area. So no bad stories here. 👍 Already booked for May trip to Florida. 😁🌴🏖️

What’s a strange comment. Cuz the majority of people would be concerned with the situation as well. But we’re all kings and queens I guess wanting a decent bathroom with working toilets and minus fecal flies. Most importantly, communication with the host/owners! They’re at least laughing about it.

There was a group of 10 college students staying in the Muslim district of Glasgow near the city center and as soon as we get into the apartment the doorknob falls off and we were stuck inside for 2 hours before someone came to let us out 🫠
