On the other hand, PLA is pretty damn good these days. The next big advance I'd hope for from Bambu would be a seriously hot printer that can do the major commercial type filaments. That will need to be significantly upgraded and insulated because it'll basically be an oven with moving parts.

I installed my upgrade kit yesterday, it took longer than I expected. But they do have a video for installing the cable chain and heavy duty cable, it’s in the upgrade installation page on the wiki

Yes, they wrote me that they got my feedback and they have added that section to the Wiki.

The whole business with the link chain to hold down the Bowden tube is simply to give the printer a lower enclosed height than if the enclosed top was extended to let the tube arc up a couple of inches as it operates natively. It's really just aesthetics. So I'd get the kit (you need that chamber fan and can't buy it separately, right?) but do a mod to extend the height 2-3 inches. Having that headroom above the printhead (where all the work happens) would seem to be a good idea to keep temps more uniform. It would seem that TPU would have a better time with the tube being free.

getting frustrated at how difficult it really is to get a kit, small batch releases are hard to catch these days!

I was considering the upgrade kit however while watching my P1P in action I came to the realization that they went to such extreme effort (with the carbon rods and such) to make the print head assembly as light as possible and so it seems counter to that idea to install that chunky cable chain. Of course, without that you couldn't install the top glass so now I'm wondering if I really want to spend the $150 for the kit although I'm going to eventually need some kind of enclosure.

Good call. I think it's just aesthetics. They wanted a "cube" look and didn't want to sacrifice build volume (also a cube!) and decided to press down on the Bowden tube. It shouldn't be that hard to mod the top of the kit so you can extend the height and thereby do away with the chain.

I want to hear yours really, but I assembled that kit 2 weeks ago and my P is now an S. It's probably worth for "print stability" and look, my printer now seems fully grown and not left one week parked in Napoli like the P1P looks.
Mounting that kit has been one of the worst experiences in my life, tho.
It's even strange I find this content now since then I was watching every single inherent content, because it began being a hassle since the first too tightened screws that almost smoothened their allen key included but did round the hex on the nut. The top would have been if the screw cracked before smoothing the insert, but fortunately they outsorced them and the screws themselves were aw... I hated doing it.
I strongly suggest to just buy a P1S.
I even wondered that if someone was less handy than me (and I'm not) could find better to buy a P1S and sell as used the P one. Bc it would have lost like less than 200 more but got a P1S as it comes, with no risks of breaking something.

Oh, and the instructions piece by piece, and the vent case you find out you'll have to have printed before all, and now your only printer is split in dozens pieces and you sticke the vital parts with tape to print that crap and go on with the upgrade... It's been...grotesque, I'm saying

Took me an hour and a half to upgrade my p1p to a p1s. The seal on the right of the door was too long and didn't fit. Im probs gonna print a custom one in tpu. The magnets suck so ill probs make a slot in the tpu seal for the magnets.
Theres also a lot of air leak, So I'm gonna make my own poopshoot cover as none Ive seen online fit my needs.

I would not recommend any abrasives/toxic filaments without dealing with the air leak.

Do i have to use the cable chain, and is the auxiliary fan necessary??

The cable chain is needed. You can't close the top without it.
The auxilliary is not necessary, it only helps with part cooling and allows for slightly faster printing.
