The spades and the diamonds theming actually makes perfect sense to me! You use the spade to dig a hole for the warrior so you’re only partially vulnerable and therefore get partial damage. And the diamonds represent some kind of monetary value with which you can pay for more warriors. It’s so crazy how they got us creating whole worlds in our heads with a standard deck of cards. And how much those worlds can differ!
Great review Karl - you nailed the rules and was great to see you get so far. You're actually one of the first to notice that the races run across each number (e.g., all the 2s are gnomes). We're so glad you enjoyed the game :) We'll have to make a necromancer version when digging with spades get's you more troops to fight with!
First time watcher -- nicely covered & reviewed, sir. Props! I agree with you about the added thematic/artistic element that this specialized set of cards brings to the game experience. There's a slightly ominous overtone to the art that I love and fits the theme, I think. I know the game can be played with regular cards, but when someone produces something finely crafted I don't mind saying, in effect, thank you for doing that!
Well done. I just discovered this game today (via Shut Up and Sit down) and have played a few times with my Trailer Park Boys cards.... They work pretty good! Anyway, it seems I'm playing correctly, thanks again :) (Edited for punctuation)
Thank you for the play through. Now I am going to have some fun. I like that you took your time to talked about what you were thinking. That helped me understand how to think in the game.
Thanks for the comment, glad it was helpful. I do my best to talk out everything I do (though to be fair, I often do that off camera as well, lol), so glad it's working!
Hi Karl, Great video as always. You usually talk about component quality, but unless I missed it, I didn't catch what the cards were made of or what quality they are.
I didn't know about the Regicide Legacy KS until this comment. It is still open for late pledges. BUT, USD78 + 30 shipping for a card game (AND a legacy game at that so once through) seems OUTRAGEOUS. Plus, another USD50 for a reset pack PLUS USD7 more for shipping. I mean, come on, you are just sending an additional deck of cards in the same box, so $7 more shipping?? I have backed a lot of crowdfunded games, but for what you get, the price is RIDICULOUS.
You mentioned this isn't the "best " solo game with a standard deck of cards. So what is? Did you make a video of best solo games with a standard deck of cards?
Ok i dont get it if you dont have a diamond card you just automatically lose theres no other way to draw besides jokers thats kinda dumb plus hearts seem worthless
Ok i got idea for house rule both hearts and diamonds let you draw (when the draw deck runs out reshuffle the discard) but as a tradeoff when playing a number you dont draw that many you draw the value of the number so if you play a six you could end up drawing three twos or you could just draw a single seven this way you dont get screwed over but you also dont have an infinite sized hand

Interesting, I like to describe the spade as a shield because it sort of looks like one 😅

Glad you enjoyed the video and have to say it's pretty cool I'm getting traffic inspired by Shut Up and Sit Down, lol. Thanks for watching!

You can also play 4 twos, or 4 aces I believe. (edit: aces can be paired with another card except jesters, so you can't chain 4 aces. Thanks Ryan!)
4 2s, yes. Aces can only be played with a single other card. That card can be another Ace, so two Aces max on a turn.
Thank you for the video. Very interesting and I’m going to give it a shot this afternoon.
Thanks for watching, hope you enjoy the game!
Hi Karl, Great video as always.

Sorry, this was a very long time ago and I no longer have the game.
Fascistic video. Very helpful, thanks for sharing. All the best.
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!
If you play a hearts card, do you draw from the discard pile first then shuffle, or shuffle the discard pile first then draw?
Thanks for this review, we are happy to hear you really like the artwork, we do too!
Thanks for giving me a chance to check it out!
Thanks for the vid! It was very helpful.
Thanks for watching! Glad I could help!
Nice playthrough! Will you be covering Regicide Legacy, which is on Kickstarter now?
Would love to, but haven't heard anything from them...

Where can I find the rules for a 1 player game? I can only find 2-4 players rules. Or did you make up these custom rules for a 1 player game?
Solo rules changes are towards the back of the rule book.
Lost on how you did “6 damage” around the 12 minute mark when you used diamonds and hearts. They don’t attack
Every card attacks, regardless of suit. The suits are an additional power on top of the attack.
Jestering into 8 non-diamonds is pretty unfulfilling gameplay. You were playing really well up to that point too.
Death is all around, and there's nothing that you are ACTUALLY can do about it.
Very cool idea - wat too tough 😕

Sorry, it's been a very long time since I made this video and I'm not sure what I was referring to.
For those that have no friends
Or two toddlers at home thanks...
@PurpleMoosePlays that too.
I've been massively enjoying this game. Trying to get my boomer parents to play with me lawl.
I haven't won yet. ☺️

Maybe this is a newer game to you, but you made some awful mistakes. Mostly discarding the Q of diamond when you only needed to pay 10.
