If you are going to pick this game up, grab it direct from here instead of from the previous publisher. This is the goat free version. www.badgersfrommars.com/buy-regicide/
Conor, missed that too. This is the downside of my recent partial lockdown due to the omicron wave here. No testing, so a lot of these games im playing solo. It kinda screws my rules accuracy not having folks to bounce stuff off constantly.
Great little game and one I'm glad to have bought directly through the creators. One more small correction to the rules: you don't lose when you run out of cards. You lose when someone is unable to satisfy the damage dealt by an enemy. This might be because you ran out of cards, but it's possible to use your last few cards to block damage and you have to hope one of your team mates plays a diamond.
Just got a chance to place this last night. Review is spot on, most fun I’ve had with a standard deck of cards in a LONG time. Gaming partner mentioned the best part is how it makes low value cards useful to with the combos, making every card useful. We played 3 player and took us 3 games to beat it and that was still very tough! Definitely gold medal!
This game is the reason I startled going with a deck of card on me anywhere I go. I use a graffiti gang deck from bicycle for added theme, and slightly modified the solo rules to reduce randomness.
I love this game, I play a quick game of Regicide nearly every night with my son. After a lot of plays of Regicide together you build a great partnership. We get a lot of laughs out of this ingenious little game and love the artwork too.
Thank you for this video! I had steered clear of this because of the previous publisher and didn't look into what it was like. Looks like a dead brilliant game though, and that art really sells it!
Another great review. Always entertaining. Keep up the good work. And what a great game! I brought the rules to a game day I organized, figuring my friends and I would try it out before moving on to another game. We spent the next three hours playing (only won once) and had a blast! Didn't even get another game to the the table and no complaints.
I keep comparing it to the crew, which is a good thing, as I did the same thing with the crew with several of my groups. 2 hours later, still playing the same "filler" game.
Great review as usual. I bought this for the art and to support the designer, but I find myself playing with a regular deck often. It's just so easy to table.
It's sad to hear people didn't check this out because of the distributor. I backed them on Kickstarter, and was excited for them when they found a distributor;I didn't know anything about the drama at the time. I'm grateful for the exposure, I think this is a clever game and am a big fan.
Love this game! Husband on the other hand... sad it's not available in the US! We have a nifty deck to play with, but it ain't badgers from Mars... BTW, the (free) app is a must to keep the score straight!
I have a question about the rules: If I play an ace and a card of the same suit, does the suit power trigger twice or only once? For example, does ace of clubs + 9 of clubs= 20damage or 40damage? Example 2: does ace of diamonds + 9 of diamonds= draw 10 cards or 20 cards?
@@3MBG Thanks! I didn't find any clarification about that in the rules, so the first time that i played the game I was a little confused. But then again, in retrospect, it makes sense that the powers don't stack, because it would be kinda overpowered XD
I moved here in 2005 and absolutely love it. Great if you love getting out into nature, and the board game scene is pretty fantastic. But there are definitely drawbacks... one of them being board games cost about twice as much as in the US.
One quibble: I don't think that The Crew (either original or Deep Sea) is a "light" game. I've introduced some seasoned euchre players to it recently and they struggle.
I think its still pretty simple, but its super counter-intuitive to some veterans of trick taking games. I know people here who played a lot of 500, which is a Euchre variant common in NZ, were the ones that struggled most when i taught it.
Your description of how clubs work is quite misleading. The way you explain it suggests that as well as doubling the damage it also adds and additional 7 damage from the previously played card. I believe this could be mistaken by the viewer as you don't just say what the double damage explicitly is. Anyway... Your channel is brilliant and it's my go to for finding out what a game is like in a nutshell. Keep it up! 😁👍🏻
@@3MBG as a former lead QA tester sometimes people are too close to a project to give accurate feedback... Or rather in this case sometimes you need laymen. Either way it doesn't matter. A good video for a great game 😁👍🏻🥒🏴
@3MBG I actually got the rules wrong I think so I'm the swiss cheese brain. Haha thanks for the fast reply. I'm hoping to play this game tonight. Thanks for the awesome video!
Not a bad concept but you can literally play it with a normal deck, you don't need the customized deck to do so. I see no reason to buy this particular game apart from supporting the developers.

Also, my bad. Jokers are better than i thought and skip the whole turn. That'll make it easier.
@@3MBG also missed that the player who defeats a face card must play again, we missed that rule for a long time.
Is there a reason to avoid the previous publication?

huh, that makes it a smidge easier.
@@3MBG Game is hard enough as it is, so I'll take any advantage however slight. Haven't ever won this multiplayer, maybe once solitaire.

Cheers Russ. yep, its a clever little beast of a game. Im curious to see what those 3 chaps come up with next as well.
The free companion app is amazing for this, adds music and it keeps track of HP and the special abilities from the various suits!
It also adds solo play for 2$.
When I first played this I could not believe how good the design was, and to do it with just a deck of cards is amazing.
This game is the reason I startled going with a deck of card on me anywhere I go. I use a graffiti gang deck from bicycle for added theme, and slightly modified the solo rules to reduce randomness.
"Kings and queens, who needs 'em?" LOL -- I loved that opening line!😂🤴👸
I'd be a goat to miss this one.

Oh that sounds lovely
Small note at 1:45, right player killed the first Jack and thus should have taken the first turn against the next one.
Correct, we missed that rule when we played it

Ngl, this title took me by surprise, and I am now probably on every monarchy's watch list.
Well, as an outspoken anti-royalist for a long long time, if they have a list, i'm on it too :)

Great video, and bonus that it is produced in an awesome country!
Even RUclips videos aren’t immune to inflation. The recent trend towards Board Games in around 3:55 is not unseen.
Lol, i published by first 3 min 55 recap 2 days after the channel launched. The brief has always been between 3 and 3 mins 59.
Heck yes I wish they’d lent into this could be played with a regular deck

Yep it’s now available in the USA from Badgers From Mars. Order online or ask at your FLGS.
kia ora mate, brilliant casual game here.
When you defeat an enemy, the rule books seem to say the same player plays
again again the next enemy? True or not?
Yeah, i believe that is correct and i didnt mention it in the vid cause we got it wrong while playing it.
Thanks! I think I’ll pick it up!

From memory, no. The suit in included once. The advantage of aces is to add 2 suits, not to power up one suit twice.

Fair :) The game however should be more widely available than just here

goat free. I am in😄
Bought the android app. Good!
I think you made some mistakes. When a player defeats a card, they play again.
Yep, noted by others in the comments
This is different from the creators tutorial.
Yes, i think i made at least one or two errors on this one. It was during the first year with our new baby when my brain was swiss cheese

I think you answered your own point there. In NZ we have a concept called Koha, and this really is a game that is funded off that.
