It may surprise some people this gets the gold medal as i tend toward higher complexity games. But it sets out to do a specific goal, make a fun dice dueling game, and it does it really well. I love that it fits the lunch time game length as well. Anyway, neat game this.
It seems like it does a really good job of offering a lot of variety and options to mitigate randomness-frustration, and at the same time streamline it enough to keep it really tight. Though certainly a simpler game, it seems like you can pull off some neat little combos that will leave you satisfied, while not brain-burnt or take overly long, which seems like your (and my) cup of tea. Cheers on another great video!
Yup yup! Sometimes simple is good if they do it right! I like complex too, but sometimes I just wanna throw some dice! Glad to hear you enjoyed it, definitely gonna pick it up now.
You sir have a new sub. Got table top simulator during the summer sale due to pandemic and not seeing our crew all the time this style of video will definitely help my crew who can't pay attention for crap lol
This is in my top 10, so I'm really happy you enjoyed it as well. Although I'm sad you missed out on the opportunity to say, "Unsurprisingly, a game called Dice Throne has a lot of... dice thrown."
@@XxCaptRedBeard You would need to get the expansion called Dice Throne Adventures, and you'd need at least one pack of characters (the minimum you can get is a double character pack)
Just picked up Season 2 a few days ago. Only played one game so far but I really liked it! Also subscribed over a year ago but have never left a comment. Just want to say that I love your videos!
This is a great game that is super fun to do tournaments with too. I just got the Adventures KS and oh my great bird it is everything I dreamed it would be and then some. I really believe they've done the impossible by combining bits of Yahtzee and MTG while maintaining a level of tension that can attract a crowd. Season 1 Rerolled makes season 1 function like season 2 and Adventures adds the dungeon crawl that brings co-op/solo modes. Everything Dice Throne has been really well done and having all of the fighters is a must in my book. No Surprise this gets the gold medal. As always great video. I was caught off guard by the intro, in spite of the the warning from the last video. I like the new complexity chart, too. Thanks again for the videos and for being a good human.
I am glad to see this game get reviewed on here just in time for the new season 1 edition. Perhaps my new favorite game, I just received S1 rerolled and adventures and this is just a really great game! Also at 1:20 "each player has 5 die numbered one through five" instead of 1-6
If the concept intrigues you, I'm sure you'll love it! It's one of the few games that no matter what is going on if someone says "do you want to play Dice Throne" I will always say yes.
just got introduced at LGS to this game randomly and ended up playing 3 games eith diff characters.. i bought one of the sets to use and play as a charcter for 3rd round. So0o0o fun!!
This is my nr 1 game! Every character plays different and they all balance really well! And with Adventures out you can now play it coop! It's A-MA-ZING!!
@@3MBG This was going to be the question I asked. Adventures adds dungeon crawl, player upgrade, co-op, and solo modes to the game. LITERALLY the only time I have jumped out of my seat and shouted on a dice roll then promptly proceeded to high-five the rest of the players at the table when i demoed it at PAX South. It shouldn't be THAT exciting, but it is and I can't recommend it enough.
Yay review is here!!! Thank ya thank ya! Nice jazzy intro! Sunglasses for the win! Game looks great! LOL! Stole my thoughts! "It's like battle yahtzee!". Guess I'ma be buying one of the big boxes... now which to choose!?! And yeah, Star Realms is a goodie! Keep up the good work and thanks for the review!
Kia ora koutou - which is roughly translated "hi all". Koutou means "to many people" and kia ora can mean "hi" but also "thanks" or "cheers" So you can say Kia ora to one person as a greeting, or as a cheers when they, say, pass you the sauce at dinner.
I bought the box with Barbarian and the Moon Elf and by accident I got the cards mixed. Anybody could write a list of all the cards of one of the characters? I know that is a lot of writing. Thank you!!
If you look on the right side of the cards near the top it lists the character the cards are for... BARB for Barbarian cards and MELF for Moon Elf cards, it also lists the cards from 1 to 32 (or however many there are).
@@3MBG hah, ok so then it'd be worth it. How do you find the difference between in the classes in season 2 vs season 1 (I felt that they're not all equal in season 1)
I tried a set of two characters (I love that this game gives that option without buying everything from one season), but it didn’t click. I love the art and production value, but i just didn’t like it even though I wanted to like it 😅
Too bad! :( What do you think it was? I know everyone has different tastes, and that's totally okay, but I just like this game so much that my natural reaction is to be like "whaaat?" Haha.
@@joelface I guess I’ve played allot (ALLOT) of Yahtzee when I was younger and this reminded me of it to much of it. Not that my memories of playing Yahtzee are bad, but for me it was overpowering the theme and artwork of Dice Throne. In the end I didn’t mind playing this, but it never felt very special or interesting either 🤷♂️ It could have been the specific characters I tried (Gunslinger vs Samurai), but I didn’t want to spend money on more characters.
@@PalladiumOne The heroes get more unique beyond that starter box, but if you don't like Yahtzee, it might be hard to get past rolling dice multiple times and deciding how far to push your luck. That said, having a unique deck of cards for each hero does a lot for the game's strategy, as does having a player-board with certain abilities you can go for each turn (instead of them getting crossed off after you use them like in Yahtzee). For me, I'm not CRAZY about Yahtzee, but I love how the mechanic tempers the randomness of dice to make you weigh your options multiple times each turn instead of just going with whatever you happened to roll on your first try.
This is one of those games I've heard people love, but I feel like I don't get it. It looks kind of basic and replay value depends on characters. The abilities look neat but why do you enjoy this game as much as you do?
Because its short and sharp. Its just high levels of engagement the whole way through and if you lose, so be it. It scratches that lunch time magic game/speed chess sort of itch for me. I like a lot of 2+ hour deep engine building games, but i like this one for its change of pace from that
I think it's because despite a lot of dice rolling you still get to make TONS of interesting choices at every step of your turn. You're never just going through the paces, and if you are it's probably because you're not playing it very well.

It's Street Fighter II in a box

Dice Throne Adventures really add a lot to this. Great co-op mode that can be played solo too.

Yeah, tripped on my words because i said 5 dice. Cognitive error, i hope the 1-6 on the screen gets the point across.

Just got this game, hopefully my daughter understands it. Doesn’t seem to complex and she likes to roll dice lol
Cursed Pirate is my favorite. A friend of mine is an absolute BEAST as the Tactician
Good picks, some of the trickier ones as i'm absolute garbage with the Tactician.
Love the new update for season 4! I may have to check this one out.
Who's your favourite character to play?
Gunslinger, if the video wasn't obvious about that :)
Thanks, will you be doing one for Dice Throne Adventures?
No plans at this stage, i didnt back it. Only got the game like 3 months ago

I've been trying to pre-order a couple sets of the rerolled version for a couple months but they're gonna be hard to get in Europe I'm afraid! :(
Rerolled is still being delivered to backers i think

amazing content
I love season 1 at 2 players.
Season 2 while being even more gorgeous is a mess. It takes up more space, and it's essentially double the price.
I got it on sale, 2 for 1. So, hilariously, it was the same price

Solo with adventures
Yep, but that's not what i reviewed unfortunately.
