Old School spinnerbait, not to many people use these anymore or you just don't see it as much as you do a chatterbait. Thanks for another great video Sir.
Hey Bradley. Hope all is well and you and the family are safe from the deadly storms that went thru Friday the 10th. Be careful an can’t wait for your next vid. And to anyone reading this if you live in the hard hit areas my prayers go out to all🙏🙏🙏🙏
Mad River Outfitters in Ohio recently published their ultimate guide to sinking tip and sinking fly lines. Which examines the strategies for trying to suggest bait fish to predatory species. In moving water. I think some in the bass fishing side. Might find it entertaining to watch. Of how anglers in that area (often just standing in the moving water). Try to work in situations where the spinning tackle and things. Can be just a bit too cumbersome. What fly fishing using streamers is really like. It is similar to those close in techniques. That bass anglers do like pitching and flipping. Where you're working at close proximity to a fish. Whereas, the flies that are featured in Brian Flechsig's forty minute piece on fly lines and bait fish imitations. Is closer to what a spinner bait angler. Would appreciate. So it's a very, very strange hybrid. Of two seemingly opposite ideas. That of fly fishing for predatory species. Where one has some aspects of the spinner bait approach. And some of jig fishing and soft plastics. Together in one system.
Cool video. Brings back a lot of memories. Now when my buddies laugh at me when I pull out my old spinner baits I’ll pull out this video. Lol. Great stuff.
Bradley, the format that 'Bass Talk Live' do where they interview Frank Scalish about his experiences. In using different techniques in bass fishing. Is a format that probably enables that group of anglers. To work carefully through some of the selection criteria. And adjustments made. By anglers fishing with a particular bait. In a particular condition.
There was one episode '15' of BTL's series. With Frank Scalish. He spoke about the spinner bait in particular. How he works by slow rolling the lure. In general. However, for small mouth bass. He can do the opposite he said (and then it becomes more a challenge). Of how does one push something. Like the lure design that is a spinner bait. Something that works very well. In situations to make a slow moving lure. How does one super-charge it a bit. To make it go fast. He explained that small mouth bass. Were different to large mouth.
Apart from the obvious factor though. Of having a faster reel. Or making the retrieve work faster. By winding manually. Frank Scalish explained that is not enough. By itself. And that he finds that he needs. To increase the weight of his spinner bait. While trying to make the 'blade' aspect of the bait. More stream-lined too. And he works with a soft plastic attachment. Something like a twin tailed soft plastic he said. Again. For that same reason. How does one change the behavior of the lure. From one that is ideal for slow movement. To a lure that can work fast. It's like you'd take an under-powered engine. To some extent. One that wasn't designed to work at a certain speed. And modify it heavily. To work beyond it's normal spec's. The lure design itself is good enough. In so many situations though. It's worth trying to stretch it out a little. To make it do things. That perhaps it is not ideal for. For anglers too. Who are very experienced. In using that bait. It can cover them. For situations where they may need some small mouth. To make up the bag limit.
I was thinking about driving a few hours to Champlain this weekend to chase some smallies, but now I’m thinking stay local and spend more time throwing that spinnerbait!
Son! Whatcha catch that fish on son! Great video. I always thought that you should not use braid around wood because of how you are 'done' if you snag wood with braid ? No ?
Love a single bladed spinner bait in cold water in the winter and also in the spring. Love those big Colorado blades. Charlie Campbell used to make a bait called the CC spinner baits, had a huge double cupped blade on that would really put a shaking on the rod tip and your feel. The bait isn’t made any more or I hav not been able to find it. Loved to use it in early spring on Toledo Bend around brush in early part of spawn! I think it was about a #7 or #8 blade. Thanks for this video, spinnerbaits are my favorite lures to fish.
I’ve questions on on your bfe for it to be named the best flipper ever I have fish the heck out of it but have never caught a fish on it is there something that you do that maybe I don’t
Just stick it in a flooded bush or willow tree. They eat it. Have had hundreds of pics sent to me over the last couple of years from guys with bigs on it.
Great video. I hadn’t fished Guthrie in a long ol’ time. I’ll have to give another shot. I used to go to Liberty in my old tin Tracker a lot. I keep looking for something closer to Edmond than Arbuckle which has become a habit. Fighting the OKC traffic while towing a boat gets old. Have you ever fished Carl Blackwell up near Stillwater?
Can you do a breakdown of Draper Lake sometime since it’s right down the road from you? Seems like it should be better than it is for me. It has really good depth, some rock, lots of wood and some grass. Would like to see how you would attack that lake! Thanks.
@@405bassin7 agree…… I went over there last year for a day and I agree it looks right but not many bites. The ones you do get are really small. I would suggest Tbird it has bigguns.

Lol I know you said that you throw it on both braid and Flouro at different times. I usually throw it on braid with a flouro leader. Any thoughts on this?
