Ok but try dropping all three out of your boat at 40mph, turn around and see which one is still there floating to pick up. I got the hydraboom imw1400 and yes it's sound quality isnt as superior to a jbl of the same size but its survivability is what sold me on it. My friends hydraboom bounced out of the boat last week while we were hauling ass back to harbor and we were able to turn around and scoop it up cause it floats. It was still playing even after hitting the water at 40mph. I got mines today. So this might not be for urban people but rather for outdoors type where durability counts.

I mean yeah its hard to beat the sound quality of a flip but ive had my hydra jolt for like a year almost and ive not had any complaints. And this is coming from flip owners at my work as well. I can take it to the beach without worrying ab sand getting in it cuz i can just run it under water and rinse it off. Ive dropped it on pavement and not a scratch on it. The sound fills a room and its clear. What more could you really need? Tho i do agree its a bit more expensive than i think it should have been but still im getting my monies worth out of it every day.
my jolt gave me problems from the start. the battery oinly lasted like 2 hours and halfway thru it would start to skip because of low power. So i decided to just use it as my computer speaker and keep it plugged in. Well i literally just threw it in the trash after getting off the phone with customer support. After less than a year one of the speakers has stopped working for no reason. They wont fix the speaker beacuse i dont have the reciept. worst $80 i ever spent.
But to me it sounds definitely better than clip 4, it has more bass and it doesnt sound so thin
Thank you for sharing! Yeah the bass is a hard one on these to judge since they are all not great, though the wonderboom 2 is pretty stellar here for bass.
I got mine for 70 at the beach and at first I thought it was overpriced but it’s super great! I love it and I’ve had many JBL
I've got 2 of these speakers and my friends and I don't have any complaints at all, been using them everyday since the summer of 2019. Party pairing is awesome.
For me I bought the 110$ one and it works and feels not cheap and the sound on it is amazing and much louder too. Like I have that JBL speaker at home and the altec speaker sounds better

I’ve had my hydro jolt for over a year now, and it’s still doing great, sound quality is good, I think the weight is nice, and the lights are cool ig, I keep mine off, but it’s still a great speaker for its price!
You get better battery life if you turn the lights off. I do the same with all of my speakers with flashing lights for that reason.

Love this speaker its great, use it in the shower, and whenever I need a little speaker without to much boost
Took this speaker to SMF Tampa 2022 and took it onto the beach, hanging off a tube and half in the water while in Clearwater. I did this for 4 days. this speaker might not have as good sound quality, but it definitely passes for durability IMO.

I have a altec Lansing lw1000 Bluetooth speaker. And it just won't produce sound. It's connect to my computer. It's producing all the beeps when I hit buttons. It saying it's connected. Volume is up on the speaker and the computer. So wth????

Altec Lansing has one called the Hydra-Mini, for about $30. I actually think it sounds BETTER than the Jolt.
I have a the same Altec Lansing speaker but I have never put it in water because the cover for the charging port did not feel as strong as my other speakers. Now for some reason it doesn't turn on or charge.
That's the real problem with these speakers they look nice and all they start of sounding good and lil by lil they start sounding like crap till they don't turn on and charge anymore... problems with the battery...my advice in the long run it's a waste of money
I had an older version of ALTEC. It was stolen, however the replacements (yes, multiple replacements) have very low volume settings. I listen to podcasts & the factory volume settings are not enough to overcome the sound of a simply showering at 4’ away from the stall. Yes, junk.
The designs are getting a little better. I had to stop using an H2O 4 when the protruding power button was pushed inside, but newer models have flush buttons. My only complaint is how short models are made when they boast connecting many speakers for party mode. Unless they're duplicates of the same model I've had issues pairing them without an aux cord.

I mean, if some amateurs think Logitech speakers are great, they never heard the quality of sound from early 2000 Altec Lansing products. But knowing how to control your audio is a whole other ballgame.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with these speakers I smell bias review, I own two Hydra minis and I get nothing but Crystal clear audio and quite frankly they they punch above their weight absolutely nothing wrong with these speakers to each his own and I apologize for my previous review I need to learn to be a little bit more mature

How about demonstrating with classical music. The demo music you chose is rock noise, to hard to tell.
my Bose color 2 speaker is breaking down and is getting old. I'm looking into trying the altec speaker is it worth trying or should I look into a different brand
I've never owned a Bose speaker, but I own an assortment of JBL speakers , I just bought an altec lancing hydrablast, I can say you won't get massive bass but the sound is extremely clear and loud and these speakers punch above there weight, I would recommend a purchase.

I know I own a hydro mini it sounds amazing I can only imagine how much better this thing sounds, I think what it is this guy doesn't realize that it's a mono speaker so maybe his ears hear things differently than ours but if he bought another one to go with us he would clearly be able to see it sounds amazing

*I don't know man the durability is real had a H20 mini speaker for years now it has severed me well there is one thing i do agree with you though those RGB lights are very un-necessary they'll reduce battery life and probably add to increase in heat there's no need for them at all.*
On durability altec is much better, i had one bluetooth speaker for about 3 years i bought used on ebay for 20dl Lol and it worked great and great sound, it stop working today Lol. not mad i think i got my money worth. also the mount on the bottom is super useful.
I’m having trouble with mine. It will turn on but connecting & actually playing music ? Trash. I have to mess with it for about 5-10mins before I get it to actually play the song on my phone

Had it replaced with 2600mah...there is no room for two batteries in parrallelel inside.

The reason why it feels empty is because it floats on water
JBL flips are bigger speakers and their drivers are designed to perform beyond the limits for such a small speaker

Hi Danny, I have an Altec Lansing Hydrajolt and have no complaints about the build quality or the sound. I never use the flashing lights, that is a totally unnecessary feature, but overall I am satisfied w/ this purchase...RogerC 11/6/23

Dunno what you're whining about. It was 35 or 40, and I got it on sale for 20 at Walmart. I'd pay full anyway.
Also in your sound test, I thought the altek was the best, and the JBL's didn't have/clipped out most of the bass.
Don't expect a pocket speaker to have hard bass, since they don't have subs. My 808 does, and it has a tweeter too, but just above pocket size, and the Altek will still dance off a table if the rubber doesn't stick. It can get loud too.
For size, the 808 is like if you stacked three Altek's together, and just as thick.
The total difference I hear in the quality is. 808=90% Altek=85% big JBL=75% smol JBL=60%

Idk I'll stick with my hydrajolt got it for 35 dollars it's hard to find a cheap speaker that is reliable and actually water resistant

A Target employee upselled me on this from a JBL because I asked him if he knew about the quality. Well mines dookie booty that had the same quality of a stuttering kid in a speech
Not an objective review. Huge point of the speaker is durability especially the fact that it floats, its marketed and designed for outdoor use especially on boats in deep water as pointed out in multiple comments, the video does not address this at all. Focus is all on audio, but the louder bass isn't even addressed.
Bros complaints, it’s light, Best Buy kept a Bluetooth speaker with phone accessories, and it has features. Guess I should tell mine that’s worked perfectly for 1.5 years to stop
I disagree I just got this speaker played music on it underwater in my hot tub to test it out. Works great! I would say it sounded better than the small JBL even in your video.

The quality of the Jolt must be hit or miss.... You may or may not get a good one. I actually thought their less expensive Hydra-Mini sounded better. The Hydra-Jolt sucked for $40 more. I have 2 AL Shockwaves though and they kick total ass.

Eh - I've had an Altec LifeJacket Jolt for probably 8 years now. It's spent most of it time floating in saltwater and around a pool plus a fair amount of time rattling around the back of a dusty atv. It is hands down THE most rugged longest lasting Bluetooth speaker parker I've ever owned.
That being said - the speaker you're reviewing is one of the worst they offer 🤷
I was just about to type me a bad review then I see this yes it's true right now ful blast volume is very low and like some work good then the break down fast.
You can start by using a better song guy. And a simple eq change and it’s louder then jbl and quality increases sufficiently
I have this speaker and he is right it’s complete garbage. I bought it last week and it already won’t charge.. like it shows that it’s charging and everything but it doesn’t actually charge. I’m returning it tomorrow.

I’ve had mine for roughly 2-3 years it’s been really good 0 problems use it for a lot of stuff I’ve never seen something bad about it. Also your Best Buy is messed up i bought mine at my Best Buy and it was right infront of the jbl speakers. Same section. Your hating on something that’s actually good. Open your ears and eyes.
I loved this speaker but I lost it. The battery life was incredible compared to a JBL
I have multiple pairs of portable Bluetooth speakers. My favorite being my 2 JBL flips 6es. Another of my favorites would be a pair of Altec Lansing mini h20 3s(realtree). These are discontinued versions of the new hydra minis. They were covered in solid olive drab instead of sporting the traditional looking realtree covers and grills they offer now. Aside from being the smallest of the Altec Lansing lineup, there is not a damned thing wrong with these units. The larger hydras are much more sophisticated and have very unique features. This review couldn't be further from the truth. To not even pair 2 of these hydrajolts before reviewing the unit is an epic failure. How can they be judged on a fraction of their capabilities?
The problem here is that you’re just comparing it to one competitor in the market and there’s some big differences here is that jbl makes some really good sounding speakers but that’s just it they make some no nonsense audio only speakers and skip the gimmicks which also means they don’t have speakerphones on them while Altec lansing has had some trouble staying afloat in the audio market they got sold to multiple different brands after declaring multiple bankruptcies and they eventually sold themselves to a company that specializes in keeping bankrupt companies in business which also means these are their first Bluetooth speakers they started making them in 2016 which wasn’t terribly long ago while jbl has been making Bluetooth speakers since the 2000s now being an audiophile myself I’d still take jbl over Altec landing but if you want a fun durable speaker and don’t care too much about audio quality go with Altec lansing because what makes them so expensive is the extra features they give you compared to jbl

I wish I had seen your review prior to me actually buying this garbage. It said that it had a 6-hour charge as well which is the reason why I bought it, I'm also a dishwasher so I bought it since it's supposed to be waterproof but ever since I brought it to the dish pit and it got a little bit wet it seems like it's already messed up the inside of it somehow. Also you can take the front of it off where that little cover is that covers the lights and you're supposed to be able to get into there and apparently it has wiring issues that requires to user to literally take out the speakers and fix themselves, can you imagine getting your grandkid this and then suddenly it stops working because you have to take it apart yourself to fix it and it's not even worth it at that point? Also I'm sitting here with a crackling speaker after only maybe 3 months or 5 months of owning this stupid thing because it dropped right off of my table from having such a high base. I didn't really read the front of it or the back of it but I should have because on it it says that it has a very loud base to. I mean it's okay for music I guess. It's more of a thing you would buy like a child, but it certainly is not worth $70.
I'm sorry you are having problems with this thing, its not THE worst speaker but certainly not ideal for the price.

I know for one it's definitely more durable then jbl, jbl is absolutely garbage never buy it, I've never had anything from jbl that's lasted longer then 3 weeks, I've ad their ear buds which break easily their headphones are garbage especially when your talking price and durability and not only that jbl has never been known for a good high end speaker their overpriced and break easy, believe me I've bought their high and low end stuff and it's trash

Thing still bumps as if it's brand new. Let it sit underwater while bumping hard songs. Got some cool clips of some underwater tricks while playing it. It's badass. 😂 Like cry me a river. And to complain about price? Picked mine up at Walmart for $45 and it's similar quality to some good JBLs that I've owned. Sad when someone can't do unbiased reviews. Don't base it off of personal preference.
