      I left my "eviction class" subwoofer at home (a 2x12" 900W SVS beast of a unit) for this very reason.

    If I understand well, the idea for it to support your existing TV setup sounds pretty useful. Main usecase would probably be someone who has a soundbar for their TV, but no subwoofer. With this thing, you get an okay subwoofer, which you can wheel out and use as a sound system when you throw a party in the garden. Any speaker system of this class takes up a lot of room, but if it acts as your subwoofer while you're not throwing a party it becomes a bit more tolerable to have around

    • @DanielJacksonisbiggerinside

      @frankcooke1692 Год назад

      If you're stuck with a soundbar because you don't have the budget for decent stereo/surround speakers - spending $1000 on a boom-box probably wouldn't be a priority. It's a bit awkwardly sized to use as a sub for a TV. It also comes in at 26kgs - which is awkwardly sized to be portable. You can sort out a 12" sub/amp for your TV for just under a hundred bucks (you don't even need a fancy 2.1 system - just leech the stereo signal via split cables). And same for party speakers. You've seen those big bluetooth units that go for like $60 on Amazon? My friends bring those out to outdoor parties and they're enough to keep 50-60 people happy. There's usually an external battery or generator involved, but even those are pretty cheap.

You go outside in a park (or outside in your yard), you throw a party for your friend, you have food, drinks, the usual park activities, a dozen families there with kids running around and screaming and shouting and having fun. You don't necessarily put it at the highest volume, but you do have a lot of oomph, hours of battery time, and enough to make your booty shake. Plug in a microphone, you got a karaoke. Plug in a portable mixer, a few instruments, and you can have a live band playing. It's not in our culture to do fiestas like this, but they do exist, and such device makes it awesome all-in-ones.

      I mean speakers and batteries are Heavy AF, and that has a lot of both, so there is no making that thing light, same thing with the idea of mono vs stereo, it has stereo mids and high range speakers and Bass is always mono, as low freqs don't benefit from L and R most of the time, and to top that part off, the only way to get a defined L/R is two speakers on your left and right side, and then battery life seems pretty good once you understand the physics of power draw as it related to subs/low freqs and volume in general, It sounds like is plenty loud to not be needed at full volume at a party, and at that would your really need to crank it at full volume for 4 hours or more?
      Small speakers will NEVER get you the low end of a large speaker, its pure physics, like most of your complaints, the root of it them are physics bound.

I personally have used it for 15 hours at medium volume before I needed to charge it. I would recommend this speaker instead of the new SRS-XV900. This is because you can buy the XP700 for around 400 dollars compared to the insane $900 for the XV 900 Even though it has less power and sound. It has amazing bass, great sound quality, awesome for outdoor use. I personally use this for pool parties (water resistant), sand volleyball (not sand resistant but is pretty good if you wipe it down afterwards), and ultimate. I love it probably the best Sony speaker I have owned. (I bought the previous 2 generations as well) The cons however of the xp700 is that the apps are not very good. this extends as well to all Sony speakers however. They need to update it and receive customer suggestions because if the supporting apps were improved these speakers would feel a lot better.

      I also have the XP700 and I love it! I put it in my garage for watching movies and listening to music… I never turn the volume all the way up because my wife complains about it shaking the room inside the house… I’m thinking of getting another one for pairing, so I could have even a better movie experience (I think it’s probably going to be overkill but hey, you only live once)…

    I think the TV Boost feature is useful if you want to still retain the stereo image from your built-in TV stereo speaker, but still want to fill the whole frequency response because most TV speakers only have good mid-frequency with little to no extensions on the low and high side.

    My biggest problem with these types of speakers is that most of them I've tried (don't know if that's the case for this one) is that they recommend that you don't keep it plugged in all the time but don't give you the option to completely turn off the battery so you can just use it at home

    • @Juply

      Just buy one which doesn't have a battery.

    • @michaelbeckerman7532
      @michaelbeckerman7532 Год назад +2

      Exactly. What Sony (and every other company that makes a similar speaker) should do is give these devices the ability/option to easily switch between a battery-powered mode and an AC-powered mode. No one wants to run a speaker like this on battery in their home and then have to keep on recharging it all the time. They ONLY want to do that when the speaker will be used where there is no option to plug it in. Also, a device this size should have an easy to swap out, user-replaceable battery as well. If you aren't going to give it the option to run on AC power, then you are going to be drawing down the useful life of that battery in relatively short order. Once that rechargeable battery is worn out/used up, you're going to have to likely take it to a service center or battery specialty shop to get it professionally replaced. That's going to take a considerable amount of time and effort, especially on a unit of this size. This is something important that Sony really should have factored into their design decision/product planning on this item, right from the very start.

    The main problem with these wireless setups is the delay you get if you use it for basic sound mixing. I mean, no troubles just letting it play a playlist untouched but as soon as you wanna do a transition from one song to another on a mixpult, the delay throws you off. So you need to go wired then and this kind of beats the purpose.

I can confidently say that for people who want wireless keytar amps (all 3 of you), they work amazingly. Plus I have a great portable speaker that I can use while doing the dishes, or I can bring it out at parties for background music (or more than background music if the occasion arrives), or have a party by myself with the lights and bass, etc. It's like another bit of expensive equipment that you don't know you need until you have it.

    The one gripe i have with it though is the portability - i've carried it around, but boy oh boy you get tired quick.
    With the 900 being even bigger you'd think they'd finally include a straphook or some wheels, but alas, nothing.
    This thing is not mobile and you'll only be able to carry it short distances, so not sure what the point of it is really.
