Today I thought we would check out the Unreal Engine Body Cam Game that everyone is talking about. The video that we saw looks very realistic, almost as if it was recorded by a go-pro. I tried my hand at re-making the same game inside of Unreal Engine 5. You guys can be the judge of how well, or how terrible it turned out!

Close but it doesnt Look like real footage
@@onerxowns2202 At first glance I thought it was a real footage that he used as a reference..
Can you make a HARDCORE HENRY movie gameplay? i love it
I don't think it was mentioned, but in the original, there was a really nice subtle lens flare along with the camera almost looking like there could be dust/fog around the edges or some kind of imperfections. I think those things that "dirty" up the renders like fingerprints, dust, non-asymmetry really go a long way to making things look more realistic.
it's not just that. he's missing the biggest piece of the puzzle. large aspects of the environment use photogrammetry and the lighting is adjusted similarly to to the conditions those textures were take under
@@cagneybillingsley2165 The biggest piece of the puzzle missed is the VR-driven camera that yields natural head movement and decoupled camera / hands movement.
And camera smudges
As the wise BlenderGuru once said - "Digitial perfection is real life imperfection."
y'all should stfu and enjoy what you've got
Imagine a first person horror like this holy crap
paranormal tales
S.T.A.L.K.E.R remake
I would sh*t myself.No joke.
and its in vr
You mean Silent Hill PT?
It's amazing how people haven't thought about making a game like this until now. Well done for the original creators and well done to you Smart Poly for making your own version
While it looks good on video it is obviously totally unrealistic as a player view "live" so really not sure how a game like this would feel... I personally can't see it being any good
It would be good as a segment of a bigger game, playing a full lenght game in this kind of style would get annoying quickly when you realize its harder to see and overall play.
because there's really no reason to. it looks distracting. what makes the game look more realistic isn't all of these techniques, it's rather because of the way the photogrammetry assets and the film grain that makes it look like a videofeed. why would a game be played from the perspective of a badge cam? how would you aim?
As far as i know UE5 is not stable yet, so need further development
Games were already in developent, before this video twitter.
Paranormal Tales has been in dev for quite a bit of time
I believe the a major factor that made the video realistic was that the gun didn't rotate with the camera like a traditional FPS. It made it feel very GoPro like. This the camera and post looks good, but the fact the gun is attached to the camera, makes it seem very gamelike still. Also maybe your fisheye needs to be slightly wider
Yeah, looks like there are three separate gun states.
1) active aim, when it moves with camera.
2) passive aim, when it stays in same spot while camera is moving separately.
3) walking cycle.
i have like 6 games installed on my pc rn 4 of them have this feature "free look"
wdym
edit - rust, tarkov, dayz and pubg
theres many more ready to be installed too
this idea is very stupid
its less realistic and harder to play
most of the ideas that people are mentioning to be good are already a thing in many other games
but i suppose if u were on console not many games have free look im not sure ?
I feel like a lot of the feeling of the original being a real body cam came from the gun moving independently from the camera. Do that and it's pretty much perfect.
so many games i play on pc have had all these features for time apart from the body cam thats just dumb
like tarkovs guns and scopes are individually rendered
everything people are raving about in these comments has been in games for a long time
nice work, really shows that with enough persistence and ingenuity you can make anything and make it relatively unique to your own style.
Wow! Great job, I thought this whould be alot harder to recreate!
Awesome work! I would love to see tutorials on how you did this and then a walkthrough like this video, I think its more complete and fun that way 🤙
Awesome! Thank you, hope someone will make full game with this mechanic
make sure to have the vignette applyed over the motion blur so your not motion blurring the vignette
Making a series about setting up a fps template like this would be awesome man :)
That’s epic I bet it will look even better once the game is actually completed keep up the good work
thanks for the video. I think how the centre of view can shift away from the gun is interesting. I don't know how that is going to play out because no shots were fired in the footage.
Still looks quite game-like, but keep working on it and it will look awesome! With all these combat footage now being more available I think this realistic style has a prominent future
I see a lot of people pointed out the decoupled movement of the gun and camera/body, but set that aside the post-processing and attention to detail in the original is very well done, the fish eye is more subtle and not as exaggerated, the defocus intensifies towards the edges of the lens, along with the chromatic aberration due to the natural convex of the lens itself.
The color correction is also way more true to life with how the colors are slightly more pale and the overall contrast isn't as exaggerated as your demo, you can see in a lot of the shots from the original how majority of the "black" on the screen has a lot of variation, it seems to come from both the lens flare and the overall contrast used. There is hardly any pure black in the original compared to your demo.
The exposure was also very well done, you can see how its never really blown out completely but rather a solid shade of white with some light wrapping around the thinner branches and such, instead of any over-exaggerated bloom.
In your demo it looks like you are staring in the direction of the sun in every shot with a window with how much the light wraps around the frame of the windows and the overall bloom, I don't know if you did light it like that with every light pointing directly inwards but I think toning down the bloom and or exposure would help a lot.
At the end of the day referencing footage and analyzing it can help you point out the small things that bring it together, You have a lot of the components but if you get the values wrong then they can easily fall apart.
If you were to take any still frame of the original and compare it to your own, which would be most easily identifiable as computer graphics and not real life?
You might call it overanalyzing but that's often what is necessary when recreating stuff like this.
Sorry for the long comment :P
Definitely need a tutorial plz , would give insight regarding camera and effects
another thing about the official body cam game is that when the player's camera rotates, the gun doesn't always rotate with it, making it more realistic.
This is it, what most people don't get about photorealism. It is NOT just about high fidelity graphics (alle the rtx hype and stuff). Obviously lighting and shading is a huge part and raytracing is the key for that as it has been in 3d animation for years, but also the animation is key here aswell as imperfections. Imperfections from the camera, the fringing, the distortion, lens dirt, etc.
Nicely done!
I believe the fish eye effect of the camera contributes a lot to the overall realistic feeling of the bodycam.
Any chance you could do a tutorial about the Steam AdvancedSessions plugin?
I can't seem to get it to work properly for whatever reason.
Where tf did you get the emoji bruh
@@deniz1603 goofy ahh emoji
Hats off, buildings looks exactly like I remember from childhood
I think you missed the element that makes it how it is, what you mentioned at the end, camera must move independently from the hands for the effect to work, else its just a lens effect - good job nonetheless and thanks for sharing!
it doesn't look as real as the demo I seen but its crazy you remade it so fast
the concept of the game is freaking insane🔥
I definitely need to recreate a horror game with this effect.. like RESIDENT EVIL or SILENT HILL with Daz OC characters man seems like a dream thankyou Smart Poly for the video Bigfry talked about the video not your video but the guy that released it.
The vibes in the abandoned building has makings of a great game
Nice work man !! I’m impressed!
The beginning looked just like an airsoft video, this is insane.
The one at the beginning of the video is SO REALISTIC
yeah its a different game and no one seems to know what game it is. lol
Bro i thought it was irl person but i realise when i read the title really shock me how the graphic is so realistic
Adding a delay or slight drift between the camera movement and weapon moment will add to the realism I think.
i feel like the way to make the rain look more realistic is to make the droplets on the camera huge because in reality, its just a small camera lens and all the tiny droplets spread out everywhere makes it look like the lens is bigger than the players head. although this of course would make the game annoying as hell with all that blurriness, but because of the size of the lens, less rain will probably hit it.
Raising sharpness often helps with realism, but this looks pretty good as is, not sure if it's to do with the lower res
I like the fact that they added fingerprints on lens
I couldn't tell the first one was a game, but yours I definitely could, but it still looks amazing
Excellent video, master ! I hope you are doing well, however when is the advanced tutorial for blueprints coming out please ? I can't get ahead in life since I've been waiting for it. I dream about it at night.
Bro literally make me can't even differentiate between reality and virtual with this🤯
What makes the video look real is the lighting. Looks like real light.
Aside from the obvious missing camera effects, your version is hecking cool. It even has the awful FOV effect of an actual gopro lol
Btw in the real one you can look away from the gun and you need to give the camera less fisheye, it needs to be a bit more flat than round.
looks good, perfect for vr too.
I think what would make this better, would be if you found a way to move just the camera and then have a button move the gun. I think in the original video, the gun doesn't move when you look and that makes the realism peak.
Get a life
You mean vr
in my opinion, every first person game had to be in this style. For me, the game may be the most realistic in terms of graphics, but if it doesn't have these real-life elements, it won't look realistic.
This seems like it would be an awesome plug-in or feature for VR footage
what you need to change is the behaviour of the weapon that seems "fixed" to the camera, it has no sway, it doesn't move at all, and that gives away much
Absolutely stunning, and great talent! This would be the perfect horror game.
The head movements while keeping the arms static in the original makes it look so good
Looks sick. Would love a tut
*Game companies should hire these talented developers! That game looks like real life or does real life looks like it?*
Tbf I've seen many games on Roblox using this kind of camera to increase realism but mainly immersion, it feels damn good
can't imagine how games will look like in 10 years
in this case, our computers will hardly run games with such an engine
Definetely not like this. This is unplayable
i think bigger raindrops on the lens would make it look more realistic, since this is supposed to be a gopro
What I believe could make it more believable is a stuck fov a bodycam and on top of that the hands should be covering it sometimes sorta blocking the view, could be interesting but it would be more of an experience fps then an actual fps sorta like a tech demo.
Bro!!! This Is You. . I'm following all your tutorials.. !!!
Can you please share how u created fish eye camera lens effect? Was looking for tutorials but can’t find, thank you upfront!
Very interesting and exciting video. I love this topic.
I can imagine how incredible could be a Tarkov like with this style of camera and gameplay. Will be immversive a lot
Damn those hallway window shots are crazy 😮🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 wow
You should add a minor sway to the weapon when you look around to add realisim
I think that for horror games it's a big change, but for the rest it's not that big.
Well the start looking pretty unreal but it was shocking how close it comes to reality
Tutorial pls
Do it yuh self

@@rocky-zx6kq why you do em like that
Oh I saw this, it’s crazy how good it looks
I think what`s pushing it further is vignetting, lot of a lens distortion (Compare your look to his in close ups. When he`s close to trees, walls and furniture, his environment is much more distorted then yours), little of chromatic aberration mb, lens imperfections, glare, "subtle lens flare" like was mentioned in comments, balanced exposure (or mb it`s lighting overall, but light from your windows looks like a door to a fucking paradise, while in his gameplay you can clearly see outdoors through the window. Your picture is overexposed and it needs higher contrast, raised mid tones, higher brightess and darkening of light tones to have more natural, boring, washed up camera footage look). His color grading is on point (i see high contrast, low saturation values and high green colors in his footage, being high gamma and washed up but high contrast and sharp detailed at the same time). And the most important part is noise. Original footage has enormous amount of grain.
It`s all about light, color grading and film grain, what makes it so photorealistic, not the bodycam effect or even camera movement. But yours look good fs.
The 4090 is definitely a graphics card that will continue the future innovation of Unreal Engine 5...
This game looks like an airsoft match recording from a GoPro this games gonna one hell of a hit that’s for sure
Great video. Do you know how to fill black space in this fish eye? Or this demo doesn't use panini s?
That would be a very cool and realistic spectator cam for a FPS
i wonder since years why no game developer does that body cam trick especially in racing games. its so obvious ! AWESOME graphics.
I honestly thought i was watching one of those airsoft wars video at beginning
I... didn't read the title, I thought I was watching another airsoft video
Impressed, but Wondering about how to control all of this features ? VR gadget + keyboard ???
at first, I didn't belive it was a fricking game. ITS JUST TOO REALISTIC FOR A GAME.
Did you use a premade kit for the character blueprint?
At first I thought it was a fake. It looked more like it was shot on a medium quality camera, but then I looked closely and was very surprised.
Waiting for someone to make a game where the pov is from a ring doorbell camera and you are the house. Game of the year idea 💡
This looks amazing can you do full tutorial for this?
sure
@@SmartPoly yeeeeessssssss!!!
@@SmartPoly Have you done it yet?
Im curious how exactly do you get that realistic color grading.
It's nice crediting the author like you did 👍

In the original video the guy is using a VR headset to "detach" the camera from the hands. I thought it was pretty obvious. Also the camera is positioned on the eye-level not on the chest.
This is so satisfying to watch
Yeah, lower resolution with some glitchy timestamps/telemetry diagnostics (which you could make into the HUD for health/ammo) would really elevate this.
Alien: Isolation did that, thinking of it, which kept everything consistent with the low tech/clunky tech feel of everything.
We're back to doom with the weapon in the center
Hey there. Love your channel and your laid back approach. I've seen a few guys put out free tutorials for this and unfortunately, none really achieved a great result. I'd like to try yours, just can't afford $45AUD every month joining your Patreon. I have bought your Survival Course also. Need to keep my costs down on this current project. Have you considered maybe improving this Bodycam kit and then selling on the Marketplace? I'd prefer buying it as a one off payment. Need that Deppart look and feel for a horror game.
Its an extend part of upcoming game Unrecord . Unrecord is a body cam style fps game made in UE5 ....I am really hyped for this game
This was released 6 months ago
@@mesh8349 and you think unrecord just like exist 1 daysago?
@@Hellomybrother676 No, OP said it is an extended part of unrecord, I was just making it clear this IS unrecord
Bro at first I thought this vid was supposed to be a joke...like it was actual recorded footage and he was joking, but damn thats pretty cool.
Such a great video.
I can't believe that they could manage to make it look like realism.
There's nothing special about this? It's just a lot of blurring and playing with lighting. Nobody wants to make games like this because it would be so bad to play
Can you help me? I need to know how u did the fish eye lense effect please give me some info on how to go about doing it , is it a post process material , is there any links to some info I can look at? Need it for my invader Zim project
And is the distortion adjustable need it to just be subtle
You know what's gonna make this even more realistic? Motion blur.
Its taken me a long time but I finally got something like this going in UE5. Its just extremely difficult to get the post processing and camera correct.
the fish eye effect seems pretty strong. might be nauseating to some
Looks like a game well done
I have an idea to create a game and this software would probably be the best to do it the only problem is not having the system requirements needed as well as the skill, but if any of y'all are into it please try to pull this off I'm sure a lot of people would have heard or seen the twilight series now the concept should be an open world game based in a huge forest which covers different terrains like snow covered mountains a river flowing right through the forest which actually divides the area between the vampires and the wolves...The main objective can be for the wolves to defend the vampires breaching the territory and add up chasing and killing animation for both sides... Being based in a dark deep forest( or even have changing time and weather day night afternoon just as real life) it'll attract both people from the horror as well as those looking for action or adventures include some of the movie aspects such as cliff diving both vampires and warewolf having the ability to run super fast or normal or walk like a control paced as the GTA games and when the super fast mode is activated to make the visuals pass a bit blur and that will all look so fucking cool as well having the ability to jump up super high or cross up cliffs in a single leap something that that not entirely copy paste the movie but take such aspects from it it will surely turn out to be very good.. I don't know how much time it would take to create something like this but I'm sure it can be very fun and you could even add a multiplayer aspect if the thing gets successful!!! (P.S so many twilight people would have had this idea maybe at some point but it's sad no one is implementing it)
This map looks kinda like the Run down map from Ground branch
how long does it need to learn UE5 from scratch for archviz and/or environmental texturing lighting rendering ?
I THOUGHT THAT WAS LIFE RECORDED. And I was like "lol, RTX in real life?"
at the intro i was unable to tell if it was in real life or a simulation
Yeah it's a different game at first. OP didn't make that one.
can you add the visual degradation or resolution lower effect pixelated? I will subscribe to see the code how it would work.
