@@laparcc This comparison is actually very on point and awesome, it is not your classic game to game comparison. It is a game compared to an engine with epic technologies which is also playable on consoles already. So that clearly shows potential for future games, be it GTA or any other new games. So far i can imagine it only for GTA like games or Spiderman etc. because what they showed was a living city and i don't know what it can do with nature and water etc so hopefully they will make more of these playable tech demos with different styles...and push this one to be the actual matrix game :D

The Matrix Awakens' building interiors makes me feel weird. The windows directions mustn't change the perception (2:08). Also some rooms don't have doors (3:27). I understand they are randomly generated, but there must be some rule to make them seem legit.
That's because It's just an effect. You can't actually see into the building, It's flat. GTA: Definitive Edition got the same thing by using Unreal Engine.
There is no interiors. That's just 3d effect in unreal engine. As commenter above said, you can see the same effect in those 3 remastered old GTAs on Unreal engine.

I like how instead of increased graphical fidelity (which we're also getting btw), the next generation of hardware is putting more emphasize on seamless immersion.

When Franklin punched that lady it made my day 😂
I'm really curious to see how this new unreal engine will perform. But I always remain on the alert, as I want to remember: it is a demo. except there isn't a single tree or shrub or any kind of greenery in any of the matrix demos I've seen so far.
It's probably insanely difficult to render greenery at the same level of realism that the rest of the world establishes. To have some cartoonish greenery would look terrible and would stand out. But, greenery has foliage and that's basically a billion distinct objects moving simultaneously, and you need not only to render all of that but to reflect all of it in every car, store window etc., so many many times all at once

One more point to note is that Matrix Awakens is just a demo. When you make a full game, even in the fraction of the size of GTA5, you may have to make compromises on so many things. It still needs to be seen how all these technologies can be incorporated reasonably into a full game.
That's a good point, and I agree, but I think a possible counterpoint is that as these technologies develop and start to consume/require more resources, consoles and PCs will become more powerful to match
Exactly what i said. He cant compare a actual game to a small demo that u cant do really nothing on. Very good comparison! I still love all the GTAs and furthermore it's exciting to imagine what Rockstar would be do with this engine.
I would assume very much of the next GTA game, but the fact is... there is a limit, and a limit will soon be reached.. Games cannot endlessly become "better and better" graphics will indeed become something to compare, but at one point when you are sitting and looking at games that look like the reality you will no longer be able to differentiate them and extend them further, there is nothing more real than reality. Just hearing about the massive improvements unreal engine 5 is offering, it's honestly going to be a massive leap in the quality of so many games. Things like the ability to now load in as many high polygon objects as you want, where in the past you would be limited to a certain amount, this will mean things like fake or low quality distanced objects are no longer needed. This is honestly going to be amazing, instead of spending time on that developers can work on the things that matter, like storyline and gameplay mechanics.
I hate to break it to you, but there is not a single developer in the world that is now thinking about more time for storylines after the UE5 release
hope it didn't turn the other way around like make the dev lazy to optimize graphics

Gta v is running on the old xbox 360 with 512mb ram for graphics and cpu shared. Thats because those 2d models and less interrior. Its nor particulary needed ingame and for experience. Maybe beautiful but you need 16 cores 64gb ram and way other way to high specs
bruh its not like the level designers are gonna sit down with the writing team tryna come up with plot elements after populating a ue5 level with a bunch of prefabs
unless its a solo dev or an extremely small team
if most devs start taking/switching to unreal engine 5 its gonna be a huge detriment to the industry. Games are going to get significantly worse in many aspects. The quality of games you say are going to increase would do the exact opposite.

Fun fact: The "building interiors" visible in the Matrix demo are also fake. They're flat textures rendered in parallax using a technique called "interior mapping". It's very visually effective! However you cannot walk around in them, they're purely an illusion.
The errors i spotted in this demo though: the interiors are indeed fake 3d, wich in itself is not a bad thing, but u can see that sometimes the props placement in these doesnt make any sense. Some of the buildings placement are weird af, looking like a genshin impact (kitbashy) way of building a town, like u'll encounter some streets that are the weight of a needle with facades that still have doors and windows. The driving vehicle physics are weird as f, and if u happen to fall of the edge of the explorable map, u don't fall in the water, u ride on an invisible hitbox (wich is kinda cool but ruins the immersion), and u can't go on roof tops, wich is a real shame just because of the fact that u can't reference to the Matrix jump :p i know i'm annoying. But one more thing: u can't see the drivers in the cars (at least i did'nt see them) Overall, i think that the graphics are fckin awesome, (i would correct a few things if i could) but I think they are betting a lot on graphics (wich is cool i'm happy with that) but not enough on gameplay. what this demo lack is more immersion and maybe more diversity in the gameplay. But anyways it's just a demo wich is actually incredible, this is still a step forward in gaming to me.
PS: u can see the drivers in the cars, my bad
Well, if they make real 3d for every interiors, it will take many years to finish it
WRONG. Not in this game. It's actually all 3D. You will see it when they give the assets away on the EPIC store soon ;) Also if you go on to the demo you can see 3D assets in every single room. so....
@@arthurlefevre7706 well it's a demo so iam sure if they spent more time with it and made a game with it they would fix those problems I bet they didn't even think about people jumping into the water 🤣
Isn't it the same technique used in spiderman's building interiors?
What is crazy is that we still have GTA V, a 10 year old game, as a reference. Also it is worth mentioning that GTA V originally ran on an Xbox 360... A console from 2005 (18 years ago)
the npcs in matrix look real asf damn
Awakens looks incredible! However, a much fairer comparison would be the Spider-Men on PS5 and/or the Mafia Definitive Edition. GTA 5 was built from the ground-up for consoles two generations and 8 years ago
9:06 Cars almost perfectly synced to the music!
Absolutely niccce video!
I've never head about this Matrix game... Gonna check it out.
Who would have thought that a modern experience would look, run and be more realistic against something that is nearly a decade old.
yeah, I mean it's really cool comparing these two. But GTA V is nearly 10 years old now.
You'd be surprised, you will get GTA fan boys trying to claim the opposite
GTA 5 is just a nerfed version of GTA 4 but with better graphics. Both are limited because they are PS3 games
At last someone said it
Fun fact : Comparing a new game against a game getting millions of dollars and still not making a new game for almost a decade

Those eye movements are so well made great attention to detail just imagine how better it’ll get it will be identical to real life
The idea of a city, surrounding countryside of some dense forests, open farmland, mountains and swamps, with highways connecting a small number of towns to the city. All made with unreal engine 5 with realistic (ish) wildlife and npc’s, crowded roads and stunning visuals is truely an incredible thing to imagine, and it gets your mind thinking up all the other possibilities this technology can bring forth
But hey, GTA 6 will surely look better than any other of its prior, we should hope, heh.
I think this also shows just how good an 8 year old game actually is. it has its quirks but I'm always finding stuff where I'm like "I can't believe they even thought of that".
One has to admit that! To be fair some of the shortcomings, like closed businesses, look pretty realistic to me, especially in this current age and time! And in my opinion the quality of NPC's is nearly on bar with "next gen"... Only hair and eyes are dated, but that could be fixed I'm fairly sure.
Also... Matrix-Unreal uses film blur shutter speed for aesthetical purposes adding "as seen in the cinema" feel to it, and that's not necessarily more "real" or how our eye perceives movement. In essence GTA looks like reality crime-TV and Matrix looks like movie.
100% - UE5 should look as good as it does but lets not forget the facts like you highlighted, GTAV was released 17 September 2013 and still a heavyweight.
I can't imagine how good GTA 6 will look
@@DeeOdzta GTA V actually started development right after GTA 4 in roughly 2008-2009. the game was developed with xbox 360 and ps3 in mind. the fact that it's still rather good looking is impressive. this matrix tech demo is obviously developed in late 2020-2021
@@SweatyFeetGirl adjusted to released on 17 September 2013. same statement. stating when something began development means nothing really. it could be an empty project and concepts for years without making it to a tech demo. I adjusted to released date to avoid the hair splitting.
I can't believe the level of gaming is already this advanced, I still remember when I was 10 years old my dream game was San Andreas and I used to wonder how realistic San Andreas is.....lmao
cant wait for the comparison between GTA VI and Matrix Awakened.
6:20
Franklin: sorry but i was bored 🤣🤣
9:12 - This part looks so damn good if you remove the logo of the game, a lot of people will think this is captured from a real life drone
Also, Matrix awakens uses parallax mapping for house interiors and they're not actually 3d. This is easily noticeable when you look at the corners of the interiors or objects close to corners and they'll appear to be overlapping with different angles or cropped. Still it genuinely gives an immersive sense of detail. This has been very well implemented in Forza horizon 4 and 5.
It helps a lot with immersion. I can't wait to see the next level. Maybe populated interiors?
I wouldn't put my bet in any known displacement mapping, it has some special something, but I don't think that geometry could be faked just with displacement.
The Specific tech used is called "Interior Mapping"
Simcity 2013 made major use of it. The recent SpiderMan games also used it.
It's a powerful tool. it's a mapping calculation that maps out a Texture and projects it onto the Plane(Single Quad) as a 3d interior.
@@danielt5547 In Simcity they used flat 5 face interior mapping, but this demo has perspective correct 3D objects inside those interiors, that cannot be done with any shader I know of, it has to be something new.
No it uses actual geometry
It uses nanite for it
You can't assume anything just by looking at it
3:42 this door in the room sends you straight to the heaven
This gives us an idea of what GTA 6 could look like I guess.
GTA 5 was so ahead of its time... Just remember that it was initially released for the PS3 /XBOX 360 generation
such a huge environment with so many simulations, of course toned down on the older systems but still working very, very impressively well
compared to today, the hardware in the old console is pure garbage and still it looks absolutely great today
never forget that when you look at such comparison videos :)
How was it toned done on Xbox 360 / PS3?
I can o to think of first person mode missing and slightly worse graphics
@@spaceowl5957 It uses lower then the lowest settings on pc with some stuff like wild life and grass almost just entirely missing at sub 720p and cant hold 30 fps. Pretty easy to spot in in comparisons.
i still play it on the 360 and it still amazes me. then you have watch_dogs...
@@spaceowl5957 usually a lot of suble things are toned down when you have less resources. To be honest my Statement was more of a General assumption. It might be traffic density, pedestrian density. Basically everything that has a slider in the PC Version may very likely be reduced. Remember, the ps3 had 256 Megabyte of RAM
It wasn't ahead of its time, Rockstar just isn't done milking it
5:51 that’s actually crazy
These graphics are insanely realistic

Laughs in beamng
@@mementoscuderia833 Well I love BeamNG but it was in tech demo for like 10 years now, while this one was made in few months, and BeamNG drive isn't really impressive besides the physics department, it's much closer to a full game than this tech demo.
@@LaVaZ000 except this is not going to be a full game, it's just a demo, a presentation of what's possible
