The most impartial review I've seen so far and really enjoyed it. The look of the new Jimny has really grown on me and it's definitely on my list now - my only gripe is I'd wish they given it a 6th gear just to make longer distances a little more bearable.
Hi Martin, (I'm SAXJ on your forum) we got the new Jimny a little earlier than most. I've had mine for a month and a half, and have had it properly off-road 5 times so far. Off-road it's streets ahead of the old one (We didn't get the old one with TC). The vulnerable bits on this one are still the same as on the old. I have the auto, and it well out runs my old manual one with the M15 motor.
Absolutely. A proper review of what the car actually is and no comparisons to other modern 4x4's that are trying to be a one stop solution for all markets, like my XC60. This new SJ - come on, lets all be honest here as that is really what it is - is not pretentious and not trying to be something is it not. So looking forward to getting one in a few years time - I really miss my old SJ 410 and this is the perfect replacement.

Thanks for the review, it looks nice in white when clean. I have ordered mine, but looks like at least Sept 19 before it arrives. My current one will be 12 years old by then but still runs perfectly. My only disappointments with the new one are the limited colour range in the U.K. and the sound system only having two speakers!
Martin Lines the is news to me, I had never looked. Just seems with Apple car play and a decent radio 2 speakers seem a bit mean. Have anyone fitted more to them ?
Thanks for the review. Great to see it from the perspective of someone who is really familiar with previous versions. Do you know what the roof load limit for this model is by any chance?
The body has a protection dip during the paint process and comes with a 12 year perforation warranty. The chassis is coated in something as well and seems pretty good even on older jimnys
Yes but how many of those will drop out. Ive heard countless dealer stories of ringing to tell the customer they have a car available, only to be told they no longer want one. My guesstimate would be out of the 4600 - 1000 to 1750 will drop out, not be in a position to buy at short notice etc...etc. Out of the remaining say 3000 people - probably only 1500 have a paid deposit put down. Paid depositors are much more likely to stay firm with the deal. And then of course we will have multiple individuals on numerous dealership lists. I know at least 20 people who have their name put down at over 50+ dealerships. Boil these figures down (even conservatively) and you have a Jimny waiting in the wings (IF YOU ARE A SERIOUS BUYER) and....Willing to jump in your car the very next day after receiving the news from your dealer that a car is available, pay the 18k within a few days, and it will be yours.
Thanks for your review , thinking about this car had a quick look today . My car is VW golf plus & ford connect van thinking about this as a 1 car do all option now switching to part time only 10 - 20 hours / month , hence small van ( house painter ) but mostly just a car . Living in Aberdeenshire this might fit the bill , i am a very sedate driver (40 mph is just fine for me )on rural roads , 4x4 not important to me , but might be useful . Your video has made me think i'll take a closer look , any advice . Thanks .
@@bigjimny Thanks for the reply , yes that is my concern seats down flat ? i think might be ok , i'll have a closer look next time i pass by the suzuki shop . thanks .
Hi Martin, I've ordered one of these for the Mrs my dealer was a bit clueless as to the spec, I've ordered the top spec, would you know if this has heated front windows? @2:45 the left hand round console show a split of rear window heater and above this look like a symbol for the front, Is this a front heated window or just a program? I've looked all over the web for a user manual but cant find one. Cheers
When all my cash has finally been been burned in fuelling my lovely Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 3.6lt V6, I think I'll have one of these fun, new Suzuki Jimnys as a worthy successor.
William, haa haa, mate, in terms of reliability and servicing, I don't have to wait for the warranty to run-out. When my heating system packed-in during freezing weather, I went to the local Jeep garage who told me that repairing the heater motor wasn't covered by warranty!
William, I have two Jeep Wranglers - a TJ Sahara 4.0lt and my newer Rubicon and they are both built in the USA, unlike Jeep's other models. My TJ has a great engine and has been incredibly reliable, but the chassis is rusty, as I live in Scotland by the seaside. I should say that despite a few problems with my Jeeps, I really love my Wranglers and have had such great adventures in the mountains and it makes me feel special exploring beautiful places in such iconic vehicles. I don't think I will be buying a new model Wrangler JL, as the price is astronomic in Europe and only 1 star euro ncap safety rating, which is shockingly poor. A wee Suzuki Jimny is likely my next car, as I think it would a great little mountain goat, but with somewhat better economy, reliability and safety.
Najee, different generation pal, we didn't feel the need to video our life's adventures and we didn't have instaspam, or facebutt etc. with which to show off, just real living.
I wonder how Suzuki will get the new Jimny compliant for the EU CO2 emission regulations for 2020. Suzuki has already ruled out using their booster jet engines as they are unsuitable for off roading?
4.12 is absolute shocking driving and one of the things I hate most !! Why do you think you can barge past other drivers out of a slip road ? You have now created a dangerous situation where the Audi probably had to brake behind the bus because of your inconsiderate driving, do you push past people in the town to get to where you are walking, going in to shops etc ???
I bought a alto brand new from a dealership in cardiff. The car had numerous faults which the dealership would not resolve as they suggested that I had caused most of the issues! Which honestly was bullshit . Would never buy a Suzuki again..but the new Jimmy looks nice as they have copied the look of a defender
Had the old model for years......was looking forward to buying this one.....But No.....Full of all the Bullshit Driver Aids.....WHY !!! Just no need .....leave those to go wrong on the Ranger Rovers !

Lucky you, here in Germany we're currently on a 2 year waiting list.

I only like the Forest Green and the medium grey but those two are not available in the UK..😟
Thanx for a good rational review, which covered some nice points on the improvements and motorway driving. Any MPG figures from your testing?

oooh nice and clean!
Annoying that there is no reversing camera on the SZ4 or 5. Oddly the Australian version get the camera feature but not us.

The new Jimny is nice, but your old one looks fantastic.
I could listen to this man talking about tomatoes, and I would still find it interesting !!!!
You can’t beat a good old English accent. 😁
Just putting it out there... But your voice is really relaxing... You should consider recording some asmr
Hello Martin, do you think the new Jimny needs any extra cavity rust/wax spray or are modern versions treated sufficiently at the factory?

Any experts on suzukis know how many parts of the origanal vitara are used and size ect,, they look similar more so than the original SJ,,
Pretty much none I would suggest

I thought it was a programmable function of the Aircon in a similar fashion to the Suzuki swift I have rather than an actual heated screen
Cheers, just can't wait to get my hands on the Jimny, the mrs is never going to see me or her new car.
The front demist blasts the front windscreen with the air conditioner. No heater unless it's different in your market.

£500.00

Eh, with the new tax system in the UK it is less of an issue than before for those who buy new and keep for a long time, or buy used.
