Like the one man in the video already said: "Die Ärzte" were certainly missing (especially since their long time "rivals" Die toten Hosen were mentioned. ^^)
They might not be as huge (on an international basis) like Rammstein or Scorpions but they have been around since the early 80ies and are part of the German culture, in some way.
They're even one of the first German bands to be offered a MTV Unplugged concert/feature.
They have some evergreen songs like "Zu spät" or "Westerland" which are still played on many parties despite being written in the 80ies.
However, they're most important song is "Schrei nach Liebe" (Cry for love) from 1993 which still is THE anti nazi hymn up to this day.
I tried to translate the lyrics for you (I'm not sure, though, if I did a good job... ^^"):
Du bist wirklich saudumm, | You're really incredibly stupid
    darum geht's dir gut. | that's why you're fine.
Hass ist deine Attitüde, | Hatred is your attitude, (--> in the meaning of: you're full of hatred)
ständig kocht dein Blut. | your blood is boiling constantly.
Alles muss man dir erklären, | Everything has to be explained to you
weil du wirklich gar nichts weißt - | because you don't know a thing -
höchstwahrscheinlich nicht einmal, | most likely not even
was Attitüde heißt! | what "attitude" means.
Deine Gewalt ist nur ein stummer Schrei nach Liebe, | Your violance is just a silent cry for love,
deine Springerstiefel sehnen sich nach Zärtlichkeit. | your combat boots are longing for some tenderness.
Du hast nie gelernt, dich zu artikulieren | You never learned to articulate yourself
und deine Eltern hatten niemals für dich Zeit... | and your parents never had some time for you.
    Oh-ho-ho... Arschloch! | Oh-ho-ho.... Asshole!
Warum hast du Angst vorm Streicheln? | Why are you afraid of caressing? (---> in the sense of "afraid of being caressed")
Was soll all der Terz? | What's with all the fuss?
Unterm Lorbeerkranz mit Eicheln, | Underneath the laurel wreath with acorns,
weiß ich, schlägt dein Herz! | I know, your heart beats (faster)!
Und Romantik ist für dich | And romance isn't just
nicht nur graue Theorie: | gray theory to you:
zwischen Störkraft und den Onkelz | between (albums from) Störkräft and the Onkelz*
    steht 'ne Kuschelrock-LP! | there's also a Kuschelrock LP!**
Asshole!
Weil du Probleme hast, die keinen interessieren, | Because nobody cares for your problems,
weil du Schiss vorm Schmusen hast, | because you're afraid of snuggling
bist du ein Faschist. | you're a fascist.
Du musst deinen Selbsthass nicht auf andere projizieren, | You don't have to project your self-hatred onto others
damit keiner merkt, was für ein lieber Kerl du bist... | so nobody sees what a nice guy you actually are...
Deine Gewalt ist nur ein stummer Schrei nach Liebe, | Your violance is just a silent cry for love,
deine Springerstiefel sehnen sich nach Zärtlichkeit. | your combat boots are longing for some tenderness.
Du hast nie gelernt, dich zu artikulieren | You never learned to articulate yourself
und deine Freundin, die hat niemals für dich Zeit... | and your girlfriend never has some time for you.
Oh-ho-ho... Arschloch! Arschloch! Arschloch! | Oh-ho-ho.... Asshole! Asshole! Asshole!
*Störkraft and Böse Onkelz are German bands which are considered to be (quite) right-winged.
**Kuschelrock is the name of a compilation album series focusing on ballads and love songs.

Here are some typicale popular german Schlager (german chanson) from the 70s/80s/90s. Ich agree with all the other comments - its not political at all:
Michael Holm - Tränen lügen nicht
    Udo Jürgens - Griechischer Wein
Udo Jürgens - Mit 66 Jahren
Marianne Rosenberg - Er gehört zu mir
    Roland Kaiser - Santa Maria
Christian Anders- Es fährt ein Zug nach Nirgendwo
Reinhard Mey - Über den Wolken (not real Schlager, but popular)
Henry Valentino & Uschi - Im Wagen vor mir
Roy Black & Anita - Schön ist es, auf der Welt zu sein
Peter Maffay - Über 7 Brücken musst du gehn
Andrea Berg - Du hast mich tausendmal belogen
Vicky Leandros - Ich liebe das Leben
Juliane Werding - Wenn du denkst du denkst, dann denkst du nur du denkst
Hoffmann & Hoffmann - Himbeereis zum Fruehstück
Die Flippers - Die rote Sonne von Barbados
    Die Wildecker Herzbuben - Herzilein

No, no, no..."Schlager" is NOT radio music/mainstream musik...it is a style of music. I can't stand "Schlager" and would never listen to the radio if only "Schlager" were played. There are stations that only play "Schlager", but luckily there is a huge variation of genres and radio stations. After all, Germany is the third largest music market in the world.
Maybe that's why the ESC - despite a large fan base - hardly plays a role in Germany.

I have a music recommendation for you: "Ding" from the band Seeed. There are two videos, one is the original from Seeed and the other is a cover version by the Medieval heavy metal band Feuerschwanz.
The song is basically just about the protagonist going to a party and wrestling with himself about whether he should cheat on his wife.
    original: ruclips.net/video/_yWU0lFghxU/видео.html
    cover: ruclips.net/video/WmlshlqXD54/видео.html
And here as a bonus another song from Feuerschwanz. It's a cover version of the song "Warriors Of The World United" by Manowar:

A real hit from the jazz musician Klaus Doldinger was "Das Boot," which was also successful in the USA with his band "Passport," and he also composed several film scores. However, the later techno version was not from him.

Yes, he composed the original soundtrack. His idea was to take the Sonar Ping as the atmospheric basis. That's the original. Has been replaced by an orchestral version in more recent versions of the movie (from him too). But originally it was this one. ruclips.net/video/6xq5uc1ssn0/видео.htmlsi=Vd-u42DJo5XWUBZL
In addition to the saxophone (his main instrument), he has always been interested in electronic music.
The later techno version was again based on his soundtrack but was composed from other people.

Schlager is just typically very cringe and cheap pop music with corny lyrics, and yes that is typically a style more conservative leaning people listen to. But its not political at all, its just doesn't have depth and creativity because most often the songs are very very replacable. Typical American country music can be kinda similar but there is actually great country music too. Can't say that about Schlager though, there might be popular hits but I never heard one Schlager that caught my attention, its just annoing to me. And I am relatively open to all styles of music. Elevator tunes are more enjoyable.

  • @Naanhanyrazzu
    @Naanhanyrazzu 2 месяца назад +2

Schlager had its peak between the early 1910s and the mid-30s. Artists such as Max Raabe with the Palastorchester and the Berlin Comedien Harmonists (recommendation: Berlin Comedien Harmonists with André Rieu in Maastricht) should be mentioned here, who still make music in this old style today.
In the post-war period, the Schlager became incredibly sexist. Every second song could be reduced to "Women are stupid, loud and hysterical, but I'll tell you how I get them into bed and then dump them." break down.
Modern Schlager is run-of-the-mill pop, out of the can. Simple pop beat and even simpler lyrics, without any added value. In addition, Schlager fans also attract negative attention. The area surrounding the Schlagermove, probably the largest Schlagerfestival, looks like a garbage dump after the event. Broken glass bottles and beer mugs are piled up on the side of the road, interspersed with fast food packaging.
This happens at every festival, but I've never seen it on such a scale as there. Not even at Oktoberfest and that's also a dirt-parade with all that peepeepoopoopukepuke.

I guess the best explanation for you as a French Canadian is that Schlager is for Germany what Chanson is for France. It comes from a different time and is strongly related to the native language. In the case of German Schlager it's the 50s, 60s and 70s. In German French music from that time is mostly called Chanson as a classification of musical style, I don't know if this is also a thing in Canada. This genre mostly follows the same style and has themes like love and happiness. That's where you've heard about conservatism. It's just that the roots of Schlager are old. But in Germany Schlager picked up a modern beat and style in the last 15-20 years and developed a reputation of being boring and soulless because a lot of the songs are repetitive and always talk about the same things (90% love). The lyrics are mostly shallow and rarely reach any depth. The use of the same beat in most of modern Schlager further creates the image of repetitiveness. It also doesn't help that Schlager is the style of music that is used for party songs that are mostly succesfull on the Spanish Island of Mallorca which is the German capital of binge drinking. Those songs also have very easy lyrics so the people can still sing a long when drunk.
All in all most modern Schlager songs are easily produced and could be done by anybody with just a computer and the slightest bit of musical talent. There is not a lot of creativeness in the music itself. The genre is filled with producers who just want to make a quick buck or have fun without the artistic connection to music. But there are really good modern Schlager songs as well. Those are just very rare because the market is flooded with cheap and simple productions.

Chanson just mean song, to me, Schlager sound similar to pop-country in America, or just normal commercial radio music in the afternoon. The genre will never die, and generally do well with people (popular). It's like popular music.

    • @Dangel98
      @Dangel98 2 месяца назад +1

@@MaxSujyGermany Yes, your typical pop-country song in the US is on the same level. I guess every country with a sizable music market has a comparable genre. If you only know Chanson literally (meaning song) how do you call French pop music that follows a typical French musical style (from the 50s/60s/70s)
? Just pop music from that era?

    • @MaxSujyGermany
      @MaxSujyGermany  2 месяца назад +2

Well, I'm French Canadian, never been to Europe. We have slang from Québec. We would just say musique populaire (popular music). Or radio FM music. Similarly to how there are tv show for people (50-80 year old) during afternoon where I'm from.

    • @eisikater1584
      @eisikater1584 2 месяца назад +2

Actually, it's pretty modern. Early Schlager songs from the 1950s or 60s are quite different, but the older generation still loves them. Schlager is a phenomenon: Often declared dead, it always re-invented itself, adapting to modern times, with new instrumentation and a more modern sound, included country and rock elements, adapted the lyrics to modern language use (keeping the same old topics), and went from the single singer on stage to the big shows stars like Helene Fischer do now. Yes, maybe you can compare it with American country music: From traditional to country pop, country rock, the lyrics are non-controversial and the tunes are simple so everyone can sing along and have a good time.

1:28 it’s absolutely not related to conservatism. Schlager-haters really talk trash about this genre. I’m not even a fan but at least I know what I’m talking about
