She is truly amazing
As a 50+ years old former punk rocker, she's one of my heroes. When even the punk community looked at her and thought "WTF?!" sometimes tells you how far out she could be. And you were right; she's crazy in the good way! And always honest and never shuts up to not offend anyone. In my opinion, anyone who gets "offended" by the truth needs it more.
Merkel wanted the Bundeswehr band play the song "Du hast den Farbfilm vergessen" (song by / formerly sung by Nina Hagen) as her farewell song at the end of her term in office.
An interesting choice, because Hagen was still an East-German singer back then and only could make a single with the state's approval. The song is said to, under the surface, to complain about things like colour film being hard to get, and the communist government taking colour out of life. Merkel of course grew up in the DDR too, but didn't move to West-Germany like Hagen.
@@DenUitvreter why Merkel didnt move to west germany? ) ... look and search, perhaps differentt decade??? whats the reason Hagen could and Merkel not?
@@prometheus4993 They are about the same age but most DDR-citizens were not allowed to move out. I don't remember why and how Hagen became to be an exception very well, but she was.
With it's government approved hoom pah pah music and already very punky voice of Nina Hagen it became a very popular song in the DDR. A breath of fresh air for a young Merkel too.
She left the GDR because her stepfather Wolf Biermann was expatriated and wasn't allowed to return after a concert tour in West Germany iirc.
@@prometheus4993 At this time Merkel was just an normal woman who studies physics. Hagen was an Artist with a lot of Range. If normal people became critic to the state, the state put them to jail. If artists became critical, the state kicked them out.
Nina is an examined opera singer, not one of that short starlets populating all charts. She's brillant.
I am an 54 year European and have been listening to Naturträne all my live. In my opinion it is the very best song ever recorded by mankind.
That's a Ohrfeige to the likes of Aretha Franklin but my opinion is just another opinion. Music is a matter of taste and there is no best or worst in my opinion. There is Respekt and Naturträne, facts 🎤🎶 😎👍🏾
42 yr old dane who has seen thousands of concerts here....... I never knew they existed... lol

The godmother of Punk and the female equivalent to Till Lindemann of Rammstein in crazyness. She also did a Rammstein-Cover "Seemann". Her voice range is just incredible as she's a educated opera singer.
Seemann by apocalyptica & Nina Hagen is far better than the original Version from Rammstein.
Till Lindemann is no match. By far he isn’t.
I you want to hear a woman sing a song of Rammstein a full octive deeper than Till, Seemann with Apocalyptica is your choice :- ]
The only thing they have in common is that both became total nutters
Her and Siouxie Sioux got on like a house on fire 🔥
Mother of Punk how i love her Punk never die
but actually it aint punk music, but rock music
I am not a German, but Austrian, but I love Nina Hagen! She was always such a great singer and character and didn't give a shixxt about what is sociallly "right" or "wrong", what is socially "acceptably" or not! She always told the trues. Like it or not! And even though her music/songs was/were not the kind of music I specifically listend to or liked... there was no way for me to not appreciate her!
Yes she's crazy in a talented and caring way. They type of by society misunderstood artist like van Gogh who cut his ear off. It's crazy that societies prefer to worship crazy a-holes like Trump with no talent whatsoever
Servus aus Bayern, same here! Mit der Nina ist's für mich wie mit dem Qualtinger oder Phettberg, des san einfach Charakterfiguren, und wer die ned respektiert, hat selber keinen, jm2c...
Austrian is German.
Yes, she even stood ground during Corona times. Not many dared to do this in fear of careers.
OOOOO the way I clicked this so fast 😂 Nina is such a gem!!!
Prima Nina, unsere geliebte Godmother of Punk...crazy that there are places she is unknown, cause she was a big influence for so many musicians...🙃
I am a 58 year old Australian, and have always loved Nina Hagen. I really enjoyed watching your reaction.
Glad you enjoyed it!
And yes, she did enjoy an education as an opera singer.
I love Nina. She is the perfect singer and gave me so much when I was 16 or 17. She is the missing element between the conservative and rebellion people. These are my thoughts as a German.
NINA HAGEN BAND.
BEST ALBUM EVER 👍👍👍
Punk was created to make the middle and upper classes in particular feel uncomfortable. When you think of punk, bands like the Sex Pistols come to mind. For me, Nina Hagen is the real deal. She's the essence of punk.
Greetings from Germany
I hope that Nina doesn't get uncomfortable if misspelled as "Nena".. :D Just imagine a 99 air ballons interpretation of Nina ^^
@@hermannschaefer4777 😂😂 Oh my god! Thank you very much. I've already changed it. There are probably not many people in the German show business who are further apart intellectually and musically.
she is a Legend... perhaps I would not agree with her on ervery term... but I have a deep respect of her... Great reaction by the way...!!
thats how it should be. It's important to listen and try to understand why a different person can come to a different conclusion, too
Nina is definitely a little crazy, but she is also a gem! Extraordinarily talented singer (trained opera singer even!) an a genuinly good person.
why "but"? everybody is crazy actually. it aint a bad thing.
pretty new and amazingly sung by her is the song Seemann - so if you enjoy her a lot its a must watch: Apocalyptica - 'Seemann' feat. Nina Hagen
Nina Hagen is also an actress like her daughter Cosma Shiva and her mother Eva-Maria R.I.P. 🤓
yes, gotta love her playing the Evil Queen in "7 Männer allein im Wald", and her daughter the fair princess she is trying to kill. Don't think there exists an English version of that movie, unfortunately.
Please check out: Apocalyptica + Nina Hagen with Rammstein cover "Seemann"
Opera turnt Upside-Down !.........Nina never fails to entertain and amaze ! ..............
Awesome to see a reaction video on Nina! She had a hit - or at least was played a lot on the radio in Spain in the 80s, with a song that IIRC correctly was called I want to go to Africa. Or that may just be the chorus. Anyway, it was brilliant, actually quite catchy but bonkers! Watching her performance here, I see that she was probably a little inspired by Screaming Jay Hawkins, which I'd not realised before. So much music is boring these days. We were so lucky to grow up in the 70s and 80s.
I know Jay Hawkins because Angelina Jordan got inspired by him too! :)
Her best known song in all of Germany is arguably "Du hast den Farbfilm vergessen".
Originally mostly known in the GDR (East Germany), it rose to all-German prominence when Angela Merkel had it played by the Bundeswehr brass band for her "Großer Zapfenstreich" (sort of military tattoo event performed to honour her as she left the office of chancellor)
Wenn man den Auftritt am Anfang dieses Videos sieht mit der Diskussion ;)
Am Ende der Kanzlerschaft wird der Farbfilm gespielt
What a nonsense and lack of knowledge to say this , that is absolutely totally wrong, haha ... this song played in all the decades in west germany sometimes in association to the east-west problem and later on ))
@@prometheus4993 oh sure. But it was FAR more popular in the east than the west. Not unknown in the west, true. But the difference in popularity was HUGE. Still is.
but Nina Hagen was a bit confused by Merkel choice of music....
Nina mentioned: "This is a song with lyrics by Kurt Demmler, and hopefully she will know that Kurt Demmler was a GDR “state poet” with special privileges, and later a sex offender who was convicted of systematic child abuse and committed suicide in prison.”
@@SHeshi-zc7cr well, it was supposedly a memory of her youth. Her university days in particular, when she worked as a barmaid and most certainly, in that function, was exposed to that very song on a regular basis.
That Video is 40 something years old. In Germany, it is hard not to know her or at least her daughter, Cosma Shiva Hagen, for the younger people. Some say she is crazy, some say she is a genius. No matter what she is, she was and is always entertaining.
Congratulations to discover Germany's best artist and character that stage has ever seen. Sure there have been some great artists coming from modern music like Scorpions, Peter Maffay, Inga Rumpf (best german blues singer), Vince Weber etc.; but I have to say there's nobody quite like our beloved Nina Hagen! It looks like it's quite nnedless to encourage you to listen to more of her stuff..😊
Yes!Thats Nina as she lifes and loves❤
Your reactions to Nina are like mine, I am always blown away by her. Please listen to more of her music, she is exceptionally diverse. I recommend the Rock in Rio concert from 85 and the Rockpalast concert from 99, both on RUclips. Enjoy 🙂
I love Nina. Please make a Reaction of the Song ‚ich weiß es wird einmal ein Wunder geschehen‘. Super reaction video from you
She is a great singer and actress in Germany. Her daughter act in the film 7 smurfs. She act with otto walkes, a great comedian from Germany. Otto is a very popular comedian you have to see. Its hard for outstanding people to understand, but its very funny. Both of them start the careers together, i think. And they are over 60 jo. Sorry for my English. And greetings from Germany.
Love this reaction. I knew she would be your cup of tea ❤ Nina is so unique and funny 😂
Sujy, Max - I rly like seeing you diving deep down into the German rabbithole! Nina is without any doubts an icon in German culture - the godmother of punk how many fellow Germans stated already. I highly recommend "Seemann" (a Rammstein cover) or/and "du hast den Farbfilm vergessen" (original song) - her vocal range is unreached
You should watch "Seemann" Nina & Apocalyptica, written by Rammstein
Nina is amazing. Find her covers of Ziggy Stardust as well, or Seemn togheter with Apocalyptica, or her song So Bad, or just anything. She might be the most fantastic artist throughout humanity, when she's at her peak.
Pls. react to,, Seemann" with apocalyptica and her.🎉
There are moments I am really proud of being a German. Indeed Nins Hagen is a real cultic artist.
40 years ago there were not so few who just thought she was crazy....😊
Nice Review. Greetings from Germany
I remember Nina so well 😄 She was ahead of her times. She still is alive thogh. I remember seeing this scandal. I still listen to her first West German Album. In East Germany she was a
Schlagersänger. But this "Du hast den Farbfilm vergessen" has nothing to do with the stuff that she made in the west. "Unbeschreiblich weiblich" was amazing. A song about women rights.
An album that I still listen to every ~3 Month. This song is funny too. I still use her:' PromPT wirds mir jetzt schwer ums Herz',as my running joke, every time it fits. She isn''t that easy to listen to.
She's a trained classic singer. And she uses her voice! It's nice that you've chosen her for your video.
Schön, dass ihr ein Video über Nina Hagen macht. Ich habe in meiner Jugend alles von ihr gehört. Wir fanden sie toll❤❤❤❤
Your pronounciation of 'Naturträne' was almost perfect, lol
Well, thats Nina Hagen! Excentric is her second name. Her daughter was named "Cosma Shiva Hagen". Greetings from Germany
Nina Hagen's “so bad” will blow your mind😉
yes, Revolution Ballroom is a good album to start your Nina voyage
Thanks for that great reaction! She is very ‘Berlin’, I don’t know how to explain it in any other way, and therefore pretty hard to understand in her mannerisms if you’re not used to it. She’s simply a legend.
berlin ist ein shithole, she is very "world" i would say,
she is the one. for sure... !
She is a classicaly trained Opera singger that was born in East Deutschland
Great artist!
Great reaction!
Nina studied classic music back in day in the GDR/DDR. Then she flew from East Germany to west Germany. And started a punk band in Berlin
Love her performance of "Naturträne" also very much. Unfortunately she left that band (Nina Hagen Band / Spliff) shortly after this was recorded and in my opinion never reached that high musical standard again.
Check out Electric Callboy from Germany and be surprised and fans of them! Guaranteed!

Yes, epic song, and this was a live performance.
Nina is a german legend - listen to "somewhere over the rainbow"
"Naturtränen" was in the 80´s and she was a part of what we now calling "New Wave Opera" or in germany just as Crazy cassic Shit from the 80´s.
Expresionism would go as well.
If you want a counter-tenor to this song, search Klaus Nomi here in RUclips.
I always loved Nina! ❤️
Her mother was an opera singer in East Germany - there are videos online where the two of them do a duet together.
Nina Hagen has similarly been something of a recent revelation to me. The albums are certainly worth your time, "Nunsexmonkrock" and "Revolution Ballroom" being two that I've singled out and enjoy particularly. This scary and distraught world is a happier place, for me, to know that she's in it.
Gänsehaut.
She made her debute wit the hit "Unbeschreiblich Weiblich" (Indescribably feminine). I recommend you to listen at that. The text was written by her stepfather.
100 percent. you totally nailed. it. Nina is meant for people like you! Im so glad you have found out about her! Best Nina reaction by far!!

Watch her performing Fever or Somewhere over the rainbow. Very theatrical ❤
She is a learnt opera singer.
The man's reaction is the very definition of flabbergasted.
If you like this, you should look into Klaus Nomi as well.
Nina's album "Nunsexrockmusic" is one of the little known gems from the 70/80s alternative scene. Not a bad place to start if you're interested in classic "new wave".
And she has a really beautiful daughter named Cosma Shiva Hagen, which is an actress and really „ normal“ beside her mother😂
You need to watch the music video „Thomas D und Nina Hagen-Solo“
FunFact: Nina Hagen was the evil Witch Queen in germanys latest version of snowwhite called: 7Zwerge
btw and her real Daughter was Snowwhite very funny seeing them acting together in this movie
Nina Hagen was in a relationship with Dutch singer Herman Brood and they made a film together, called Cha Cha. They knew a little bit about drugs. Actually Brood, who sang in English, was meant to become a star in the USA, but the drugs there weren't good enough to keep him on his feet and the rest of the tour had to be cancelled.
You have to hear the whole CD Studio Recording
Nina is one of our very very few actual national treasures.
Eine Ikone!!!! Nina Hagen❤
I wish there would be more punk arround in these days
Thereal queen of the night
"Naturträne" (1979) about melancholy is one of her early fun songs, as is "TV-Glotzer" (tv watching 1978 -- ruclips.net/video/JWzPcDtZZZo/видео.html). It is based on the music of an US-Band called "White Punks on Dope" with pretty funny new German lyrics against watching to much tv. A very serious song is "Auf'm Bahnhof Zoo im Damenklo" which at the beginning of the 1980s was a hotspot for minor (12, 13 y. and older) heroine addicted prostitutes (ruclips.net/video/XYa2ye4GPY8/видео.html).
A must is the cover version of Rammstein's song "Seemann" together with the band Apocalyptica of the older Nina (ruclips.net/video/v-YzdvmD2aQ/видео.html) about a young woman who left her home due to problems with her mother and became a prostitute.
This is the Nina Hagen Band, which later became Spliff (without Nina - famous songs: Carbonara, Da fliegt Dir doch das Blech weg..)🤓
Cool, das wusste ich gar nicht. Ich dachte das wäre auch Humpe und Humpe.

Nina Hagen is a german legend. She is sort of the female Klaus Kinsky. She is the embodiment of pop-art. It's a pity Germany longer has any artist coming close to her or Kinsky with such a strong backbone.

Nina was trained as an opera singer. From her mind she is a 'real life' Punk and can use her voice as a weapon! 😄
That's crazy and fantastic 😍 but I would not challenge her to a pie eating competition 😂
A fun-fact that few people know of Nina Hagen. She was involved in the German version of Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack. Here is a video someone posted of one recording she had done on the soundtrack. ruclips.net/video/h2uyUQAKgwY/видео.html

Is this a new channel by you especially for German content? I'm a sub to your main channel and just saw this in my suggestions, and I hopped on it because I've been loving Nina for decades, and still do, for who she is a s an artist and human. Lately here in Germany she has become a "persona non grata" on mainstream media because she still speaks out against hypocrisy and the corporate military-pharmaceutical-industrial-medial complex... At first I didn't even realize it is on another channel, but when I did I subbed here as well. Honestly, though I'm Bavarian I don't listen to much German music, except for some Nina now and then... and Henning May and his band AnnenMayKantereit...
