  • Schandmaul is a German medieval folk rock band from the Munich area. As well as using modern instruments such as the bass and electric guitar, the band also utilizes instruments typically used in Medieval folk songs such as the bagpipes, hurdy-gurdy or shawm, to produce their trademark folk rock sound.

Schandmaul is a medieval rock band, their style varies from song to song, some songs like this one are more folk than rock, but some other songs are more similar to what In Extremo are doing. My favorite songs by Schandmaul are Drei Prüfungen, Drachentöter, der Hofnarr, Kalte Spuren and Sonnenstrahl.

Glad you discovered Schandmaul! I am a big fan, and I saw them live 20 years ago! Back in 2004 they were still not very famous but in their beginnings, an "insider tip" concerning the genre of folk-rock.
They performed in a small club with ... well.. about 400 spectators. And they really provided a fantastic atmosphere there! In fact, they impressed me that much - still today I keep the 2004 ticket on my pin board! :)
I was accompanied by a friend and told him "I guess they will become really famous one day if they keep on the good work!" and well - today we have the proof!

One of very few reactions on international basis that discovered the German band Schandmaul.
I see you liked it. 🤘
This kind of German folk/medieval rock is a big subgenre of Rock/Metal in Germany and quite popular.

Feuerschwanz and Saltatio Mortis are absolut awesome Bands. They are mixing medievil elements with heavy metal and rock music. Warriors of the World from Feuerschwanz is a great cover song.

You should take a closer look at "Versengold", they are a german Folkrockband. Maybe you try their songs "Tod und Trommeln" or "Küstenkind" or "Sally O'Brien".

That is my opinion a kind of neo folk, yeah this song is great, and it picks me like u........ but I`ve u want to check out german medival music, google "Walter von der Vogelweide" and the "Palästinalied", and maybe u will find corvus corax, or in Extremo who played this song or maybe u check out the version of the "palästinalied" by Quantal, my favorite version of this song.

France is next to germany so is it so unthinkable to have a similar sense of music ?
Even though itnwas a colony u are desendet from if the culture is strong there u are probaply more european than u think 😅
My crituque on the trinking song would be how repetitive it is and thst this specific band member has mire of a melodic talk instad of real singing at least in this song i dont listen to them usually
It its not the worst they where played at the larp events i ussed to attend when i was jounger
Larp is a life actio roleplay off medivel or medival fantasy and its verry serious u csnt even hsve ur phone the ist a special tend u hsve to go to if u need to send an message or check somethin 😅
So of couse regulsr music also is not allowed

Well, my point is that we have more in common with German Medieval Music in Quebec then they have in France. Because we kept the traditions of our colonizers, while France moved somewhere else.
