Awesome review! You're very informative and light hearted! My wife got me this calendar and we watch your videos for what you have to say about these whisky's, and she loves your personality! Thanks for the great insights for us amateur whisky aficionados!
One of my favourites. I think it has a lovely rich vanilla/cherry sweetness but I always add a touch of water to get that warm earthiness and oaky finish too. It's just so reliably, consistently welcoming.
Came back to this video to watch while I tried a bit of this myself, and you are SO right about adding water. And personally I'm enjoying it more than the 12yr.
Tried this whisky just now. It tastes like cream, butter, and walnuts with plenty of oak later on. Very gentle, but also quite complex, although a lot of the notes are similar to each other, also without water. Try it without water too, I find it almost equally good that way. Better than most in the same price range, not exceptional.
This is my favourite single malt to date. It is rich, smooth, and more complex than the 12 to me. And while I like Islay scotches a lot, I find I need to be in the mood for those stronger in your face experiences. While the 15 year old Solera is just so easy to get comfortable with and enjoy.
Islay fan here,I agree I have to be in the mood for some heavy smoke action. When I'm not in the mood for Islay scotch my go to is the Glenfiddich Solera 15 and the Aberlour 12,both fantastic.
Have only tried it on the rocks. Was part of a sampler set along with the 12Y and 18Y and I liked this the best out of the three. Just picked up a 750ml bottle of it so looking forward to trying it neat and with a little water. Not sure when it will get opened though. Picked up a bottle of 14Y before so will probably open that first.
It’s smooth and friendly but that spiced, ginger hit you get at the end is super interesting and addictive. The 12 as more earth and grass and is bit more unrefined. I honestly like both but the 15 with its deep cherry oak and spices finish is pretty special. Also it’s pretty competitively prized in UK when on offer.
I had this last night.. it was on sale, cheaper than 12 so I thought. why not :D Nose was great, woody sweet biscuits and a little smoke. On the pallet I freaked out (in a good way) i tasted gummy bears... Haribo gummy bears :D I was so surprised how smth can taste like a little bonfire some pine sap and the gummmy bears. Amazing. Dont want to say it but..smooooth. After little smoke and pine and sweet candy chocolate biscuit finish. Like you said - very good introduction to Scotch. Won't scare them away. Great stuff :) 10/10 would recommend.
Wow I never add water to my whisky I alway drink it neat but I have a Glennfiddich 15 and I added some water as you suggested and I had no idea a few drops of water could add so much to a whisky. Which other whisky’s does adding some water too change so much?
Being a bourbon guy this is a scotch I enjoy. Quality without too much peat or smoke. This and The Macallan 15 fine oak are very smooth drinkers for non traditional scotch guys
I'm new to the scotch game. I've got a half bottle of this Solera left.. I've found if allow scotch or bourbon to mellow a few months after opening it gets so much better. The Solera is buttery and coats the tongue
Had a dram of this last night. Enjoyed it immensely, but like you said, it lacked drama. Totally agree with you. Yet having said that, I loved its simplicity for a 15 year old, especially for being matured in a Solera cask. I'd still pick the Glenfiddich 15 Year Old Distillery Edition as I found it had an almost custard/cake note. Cheers!
I love this stuff, I got the glendronach 12 and I just can't help to want the glenfeddich 15...sometimes I just wanna sip scotch and not get into the complexity..just wanna drink and play on the computer.
Indeed, Im just having some right now. After Glenmorangie 14yo and Aberlour 18yo, this Glenfiddich doesnt really offer anything special. I have to try it with water tho.....
Haven’t been able to find this exact bottle, is the “Glenfiddich solera fifteen” a revamp of this one or a little different? www.lcbo.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/en/lcbo/speyside-15020059015/glenfiddich-15-year-old-single-malt-scotch-whisky-605972#.XsQcxCVE0lQ
I'm actually learning a lot by going back and watching these videos. I even got some samples myself recently to start challenging myself out of my comfort zone of Knob Creek (the whole line of em) and start trying other types of whisk(e)y...whisk(e)ies... er? lol Whiskii? Anyways, Thanks for the knowledge that I will make sure to spread in kind, paying it foward. Oh, and thanks for the like. Nice to see someone from the crew still goes back to old videos and checks on comments, even liking them :) .
I was pretty disappointed in this. It's aggressive for its ABV. All of the flavor - honey, butterscotch, cola, muted fruit - failed to mature past 'hints' as it sat on my tongue. The dryness continues after swallow and left me feeling empty, not unlike my wallet after shelling out too much for it.
I have seen your videos where you say Glenfiddich 12 is smoky and how Bruichladdich is smoky, and I have to say it completely trashes any credibility you could ever have. Neither of those whiskies have any smoke added to them and yet you are supposed to teach classes on the subject and have the audacity to charge money for it? Shameful.
I wish you still did these types of reviews from time to time....so much more informative. thank you for all that you do.
I may do some side ones!
Agreed. I totally avoid the others because all the jerking around.
The Solera cask at the Glenfiddich distillery is a thing of beauty to view. You could drown in it, both figuratively and literally.

Thanks for the kind words! It's a blast to make these, and glad to hear it's enjoyed. Love that your wife joins you. You've found a damn fine wife.

The 15 solara is way better compared to the 12.(just my opinion)
Tried this whisky just now.

I agree. This one is lovely.
Please try Abelour 12 yrs. old, what a difference.

Very thorough review, and in a timely manner as well! Loved it!
Just opened a bottle what a beautiful drink the first single malt ive ever tasted, the journey through aromas and flavours really blew me away 🤌🥃
This whiskey is really fantastic and i did try to add a couple of drops of water, it really changed and became way more intresting
I just did exactly what you did and I have t agree ... extremely smooth neat but more interesting with a splash of water.
Its always a good day up here on the internet. Especially with a single malt scotch.
No question.

It’s weird seeing the old videos and not seeing Rex. I personally like the new stuff (with Rex..and Emma …and Brianna) 😀
This is my favourite Whiskey
Solera cask aging is very interesting, especially over a long course of time.
I had this last night.. it was on sale, cheaper than 12 so I thought. why not :D

I really enjoyed this review. Thank you.

2022 and I'm drinking Glen 15 to this video.
I think the Bourbon cask is still my favourite but this is absolutely delicious
Better than the other Scotches in the price range! $49 in Arkansas! Unique! Cheers 😁
Great review mate, do you think there is a big difference between this and the 18 that justifies the 18 year old price ???
johnnie walkie double black is also awesome cheapish scotch, proper smokey.
this was the first scotch I tried and I remember it being friendly at least for whiskey
I'm new to the scotch game. I've got a half bottle of this Solera left.. I've found if allow scotch or bourbon to mellow a few months after opening it gets so much better. The Solera is buttery and coats the tongue
I love the advent idea, plus: no rex haha
try the glenfiddich 18 small batch please, with a touch of water.
Better than 18 in my book.
Had a dram of this last night. Enjoyed it immensely, but like you said, it lacked drama. Totally agree with you. Super Whisky 15 Solera. 👍
Is it too early to order an advent calendar for 2023?
I agree about the water
I just bought a bottle and having my second dram, I'll update my comment a little later. Good video!
Why didn't you make a 18yo glen review?
It's not bad, I'm definitely getting a taste of raisins, I think the 18 is worth the extra money though.
I went from 12 to 15. Not going back to 12, so 18 is next.
Agree 100% (love it on ice though)
Raja M. Yassin sinner!! Lol 🥃
Just mix all the Glennfidichs together and then its both a single malt and a blended whisky at the same time!
Best whiskey !
I love this stuff, I got the glendronach 12 and I just can't help to want the glenfeddich 15...sometimes I just wanna sip scotch and not get into the complexity..just wanna drink and play on the computer.
That´s how I played the whole L.A. Noire. Needless to say it was hell of a ride.....but I felt like an alcoholic afterwards.
Great review as always, Im just wondering if someone could name the music at the start of the video, cheers, thanks very much!
yeah thats true. it stays half of liqued in cask forever who does solera
I liked mine more without the water.
Two guys walk into a bar, the third one ducks.
this one is far too subtle for me, to the point of becoming almost invisible
Indeed, Im just having some right now. After Glenmorangie 14yo and Aberlour 18yo, this Glenfiddich doesnt really offer anything special. I have to try it with water tho.....
you ´ re the first one to say that the 15 yo is less interesting than the 12 yo... the other reviews pretty much said the opposite... í´m confused...
Personal experience is everything
The others probably paid more for it 😂
15 way better compared to 12.
Girlfriend bought me a bottle for Valentine's day. Very very tasty
great review without Rex, his too rowdy, lol

It's the same. They just redesigned their bottles.
You really prefer the 12?
I don't. 😉
I screw up on my review.
Just watched it! I dig your vibe. I think you'd have a blast hanging out with me and Rex :-)
And "It's a good day on the internet" is the new Mr Roger's theme song.
What did you win your Olympic gold medal for?????🥃🥃🥃
Im a single malt scotch kind of fellow
too mellow for me
501'st so I kicked off the 2nd leg towards 1k for this old vid :D

Love glenfiddich but I'm not a fan of 15yr.
Funny.
A hint of smoke would be perfect in this whisky

Hi i know this was a while ago, however what would you recomend over this ?
Glenfiddich 15 is one of my biggest disappointments ever.
It would help if you pronounced Balvenie properly. But because you didn't tells me you no nowt. Bye!!!

You have to be joking. You could argue about the Glenfiddich 12 but the Bruichladdich??
