This one is extremely mild and smooth which is what I love about it. Alot of whiskey makers think it has to taste like moonshine nowadays, I don't get it.

The Glenfiddich 12 was the first single malt I've ever tried and it ignited my passion for single malts but as you mentioned, as my taste developed, I find myself drinking less and less of it. Nowadays I much prefer the 15 year old solera style. However, I think Glenfiddich is a great distillery and having had the opportunity to visit it, I can say that it offers the best tour of all the distilleries in Scotland.

After trying 50-60+ whiskies over the past year, this ranks in my top 5, probably top 3 for single malts. I dont really know what you could ask for to make it better. I have tried plenty of more expensive ones and besides maybe some of the Islay's, none have been worth more than maybe $50. I actually tried Glenfiddich 18 and it wasnt as good as the 12, although I didnt have them back-to-back.

Its a superb starter for sure, but its a great one to return to after you've been on the journey stemming from this start. When you get reconciled back to this 12year, you'll not be disappointed and it will be remembered as good as your memory of it. Always a good reunion. Glenfiddich is an institution of scotch pleasure.

Before the repackaging and few years ago, the Glenfiddich 12 actually taste like a properly aged 12 years scotch. It's my daily dram. The recent bottles taste abit younger and with slight off putting sour note. For now, in the similar price range, I'm sticking to JW Black 12, Glenmorangie 10 & Glenfarclas 12 as my to go scotch. However, their travel exclusive and NAS releases are not too bad.

  • @marcwhiskey

I'll have to recomment lol. I mentioned before, this one has it's place for Scotch beginners (me last year), for a "warm up dram" before moving on to something complex later on, like waking up your taste buds. Or it's great for a casual drink with friends or family when you might not necessarily be talking or analyzing whiskey because its just downright enjoyable overall.

I think it is also a nice palate cleansing whisky if you had a sherry or peat monster and want to readjust your tastebuds. It’s interesting as the Glenfiddich does change based on what you had before, for me it’s a stock it.

I won't mind having this one around! Pricey tho... Let me know whats similar shelf and also has the fruit apple notes! Glenfiddich 12 has been the world's biggest selling single malt for around 45 years and this offended the purists mightily. purists = old guys with tweed jackets and pipes On receipt of that news the Grant family cried all the way to the bank then cranked up the volume of production. My favourite of the series is the 15 which is an extremely pleasant sherried and non challenging dram that slides down ever so easily. Leave the pipe at home.
