In the end you write: "thank you for watching". I must tell you it's quite the contrary: I deeply thank you for your work, for your passion, for your service!!!
I love how you add the landscaped gardens! Most "restorers" picture Rome as a city of stone and marble without a single plant, tree, or garden. It was as if the Ancient Romans went out of their way to stomp and kill every blade of greenery within the city limits. Also...when the technology is available, I think it would add a lot to show people walking about the city as well.
That final shot over the rest of the Palatine is great - it's often hard to visualize all of the other villas and mansions of the Roman aristocracy on the Palatine, when we are so used to seeing the massive Domus Flavia cover over most of it.
Hello, my goodness, Thank You! How magical and wondrous to see this brilliant reconstruction. I imagined the marble glinting in the sun with gold shimmering near the clouds, what a awesome sight to behold! The Romans and Greeks (and Egyptians) built spectacular Palaces, Temples etc. And of course other Ancient Civilisations now discovered of mind blowing intricacies, paintings and so forth. Thank you again. Xxxx

Magnificent Reconstructions... I used to go to the the Library in high school, which had an encyclopedia or series of books: 'Hammond's Book Of Architectural History'... It was loaded with Old Architectural History. In There it was stated that: " Too Witness Rome, at it's Height Of It's Glory... Would Be Too Witness The Greatest Architectural Sight That Would Ever Be Created By The Hand Of Mankind"! I think it's Entirely Possible and Most Likely True!
Very interesting video on Augustus and Livia's House or Domus Augusti. Relatively modest house but according to some historians it was much larger but a part was destroyed by the later Palace of Domitian. A very interesting place to visit!
Again, you have created another beautiful & brilliant video. This is a delight to watch over and over again. I am grateful to your whole team for this creation. THANK YOU !
Smart use of the virtual camera, as a real camera would move through a space. The best lighting of 3D models I've seen. Keep up the great work. New subscriber, thanks.
So Hortensius and Catullus were neighbors? And Augustus put their former houses together to make his modest little palace? That's a cool bit of information. Very interesting.
It is truly amazing what the Romans were capable of building and for the most part a lot of it is still standing including many ruins of roads to so much....
Wow!!!! The recreation is spectacular. Great to see a glimpse of history. If we learn anything from our past it will help us plan for our future. We learn best from our errors . Great work!!!
@@andy-the-gardener I also wonder about this and the temples were actually pantheons. Romans seemed far more inclusive of gods and goddesses, not limiting to just one. At least until near end of the Roman era.

A great rendering, though out of curiosity wasnt the circus maximus predominantly made of wood during the Augustan period before being rebuilt out of stome by Trajan?
Yer killen' me Foster ! Like saying to your girlfriend, You look beautiful in anything honey !! You know I love how you dress ! Should you really wear red with that complexion ?
Incredible job, the double portico with the beautiful temple such a magnificent space, and the other incredible thing is how small is the "palace" of Augustus, the ego of the emperors will get out of control after his death, the palace of Tiberius and Caligula is much more big, then the Humongous palaces of Nero (the golden house) and Domitian reflect very well how the republican austerity was replaced for eastern decadence.
Yeah, case in point the excessively vulgar Domus Aurea with its statue of Nero the size of a building and endless collumns encircling sprawling gigantic water features the size of small lakes and gardens the size of a small forrest.
How do we know so much about Rome? Like, how do we know where his study is, and that it was built from other houses? How do we have street plans and detailed building plans? Crazy!
You would think it's impossible to know. The only way to know for sure is to travel back in time to Ancient Rome and stay there for at least a month and investigate.

This is amazing!! Keep up the good work! I'm enjoying all of your videos One thing that I cannot completely figure out are the sculptures: did the material they were built on (bronze or marble) determine if statues were coloured or not? I have seen in your videos that some statues you recreate - but not all - are coloured. I'm intrigued by this because the information out there is very misleading (thanks Michelangelo!)... I think the reality lies somewhere in between the "all-white-sculptures" and the "bright-fluorescent-sculptures", but I'm interested in learning more and understanding why you decided to keep some of these in bronze.
Substantial remains of the House of Augustus on the Palatine survive, having been excavated and reconstructed to a degree. And the upload mentions the 'Forma Urbis Romae', an ancient marble map of Rome, created under the emperor Septimius Severus in the early third century, which preserves much valuable information on the layout of the city at that time.
Granite was used ever since the early republic by the elite (look at the tomb of scipio barbatus for example) and we know that Augustus was the one to order the construction of the first mining station at Carrara itself. So there you go
Very little of ancient Rome remains. Where did it all go? What happened to all that stone, marble and bronze? Looking back it looks cretinous to have destroyed so much beautiful architecture. Although I understand the original Roman sewers are still used today.
Same thing they do today. Destroy beautiful old architecture to build new crap. Except it's worse than it's ever been because they build walmarts and shopping plazas
More like a relatively small town house for a public servant than a real palace for a de facto ruling monarch (when the then new Principate still had the heavy trappings of the dead Republic).

Very beautiful.....fulfills the criteria of our modern fantasies about ancient Rome.
WOW.... Who knew it was that crowded? I imagined more space in between. Thank you
When you had to get everywhere on foot, and fit everything inside fortified walls, you'd naturally pack it in as close as possible.
I saw this after I saw a movie showing MichaelAngelo painting the Sistine Chapel.. Lovely work and this is splendid.
Yes... I could imagine myself living in there.
Great work with the animation!
It's definitely bigger than I actually thought it was.
Hollywood movies and tv series never have done it justice.
They ALWAYS portray it SMALL!
Thanks for all your hard work bringing the city back to life. It's incredible to see this unfold
This, curiously, makes me sad. Beautifully done.
It’s really amazing, you feel you are actually there, it’s correct that all statues were painted, the work done must be so immense! Thank you

Yer killen' me Foster ! Like saying to your girlfriend, You look beautiful in anything honey !! You know I love how you dress ! Should you really wear red with that complexion ?
Correct, after a devastating fire, as you stated that was mostly made of wood, prompted Trajan's decision to rebuild the Circus entirely in stone..
It really looks real. It is amazing to real it as it stood then.

Remarquable travail de reconstitution . Bellissimo and wonderful......
Must have looked cool at night with the lamp stands lit.
It would be cool if you showed the ruins at the beginning for a few seconds and then finished back to the ruins for a poignant touch
Augustus was smarter than Nero because he knew fewer people would want to kill him if he refrained from rubbing his wealth and power in their faces.
Yeah, case in point the excessively vulgar Domus Aurea with its statue of Nero the size of a building and endless collumns encircling sprawling gigantic water features the size of small lakes and gardens the size of a small forrest.
Yes, this is strictly Roman architecture. Lots of columns. Just need a splash of color to offset the grayish stone and concrete.
Once a year he would dress like a begger in front of his home. To feel what it means to poor and ignored.

Where did they get all that marble and granite?
Granite was used ever since the early republic by the elite (look at the tomb of scipio barbatus for example) and we know that Augustus was the one to order the construction of the first mining station at Carrara itself. So there you go
probably somewhere in italy, greece, and egpyt. eastern part of the empire has a great quantity of marble quarry too
the egyptians already used granite 2000 years before, it was not difficult just time consuming
