- Ever seen an auto rickshaw / tuk tuk in person? Chances if you've only ever been to the USA or Europe. you never have! However, much of the world uses these little three wheeled autos for everyday life. Some countries use them as taxis while others even use them for more practical reasons such as a hurst for a funeral! These little auto rickshaws / tuk tuks are incredibly hard to find in the USA, but we managed to snag one in Atlanta just recently! We can't wait to turn this little tuk tuk into another business venture, but for now we're having fun exploring and traveling around town in her. Today, we'd like to introduce you to our 2018 TVS King Auto Rickshaw (tuk tuk): Marigold!

Every time they loose the grip from clutch immediately thats not how you should drive. Keep your clutch in your command release it steadily😢
You guys should visit India and explore our country's amazing culture and artwork and wonderful cuisines food and deserts and sweets and I hope whenever you visit I hope it will be a memorable for you
I subscribed....how much did it cost
guys left hand side cluck has to reales slow and race accelerator slowly that's yet and you are pro driver
The secret of smooth transition from Neutral to First gear is that when you put it on 1st gear, rev the accelerator gently then also gently (slowly) release the clutch until it goes on the biting point, where the vehicle will move slowly. Then when you feel that the acceleration is stable, release the clutch. Rev much and quick release of the clutch will result a damage to the vehicle.
I live in Mumbai and this is the first time in my life I saw an Auto Rickshaw following lanes and using turn signals. Feels like my brain is buffering :D

@@chrisandsara it makes me smile too. I want one, I'm in Jamaica 🤡
@@chrisandsara by now you might have found the first gear should be released slowly and simultaneously you should raise accelarator slowly it requires practice. if you release abruptly the clutch or forget to raise accelerator it won't work.

*** CLUTCH TIP *** Without giving it any gas, just slowly let the clutch out until it starts to move and then pull in the clutch again. This is called finding the friction point. Practice doing that a few times so that you get used to where it starts to move. Then, you can practice letting out the clutch so slowly and evenly that you'll be able to start moving at idle without giving it any gas. Once you can do that predictably, then practice letting the clutch out slowly while giving it some gas. Eventually, you'll be able to take off smoothly and quickly with no jerkiness. It's a balancing act that needs practice but you'll get it. LONG RUN, let the clutch out as fast as you can while accelerating but still taking off smoothly. This will help you not burn up the clutch too soon. Good luck!
He'll break something sooner or later dumping the clutch every time. 😢
As a motorcycle rider myself it’s killing me to see them release the clutch in that manner and over throttling it.
@@ivansoto760 These boneheads don't know anything about clutch and friction zone and all that stuff. Looks like they can't even drive a manual transmission car to understand the concept of how the clutch works.

And better than never, at the end she mentioned it that it is from India. Most of the youtube trending Rikshaw buyers doesnt care to do so. They would do if if was from china.
Actually they love it, when I design a catalogue or inflight magazine which has a seperate column called "tuk tuk ride" which they will have a particular place to be visited in autorickshaw.
😀
Feather that clutch instead of popping it. It just takes a little practice to get the feel of it.
You are exactly right...
Correct! It's the last 1/16 of an inch that counts, let it out until it just starts to engauge, then give it a little gas and GRADUALLY let that last little bit of clutch out. I've never driven a tuk tuk, but in my younger days I lived on motorcycles. From what I can see in your video the running gear is just like the old mopeds and Vespa scooters, only it has reverse.
Mark did you mean bring it up to 7,000 and sidesteps the clutch?

The clutch is a mechanical process that helps ease the gears into play...so you have to be very smooth and take it slow with the release...and these are small engines so you have to keep the revs in check...everything else will come with practice! Love this
Go easy on the clutch release. And gentle on throttle too please 😀.
And on the railways too
Mostly use automatic transmission
Just drive like motorcycle
Thanks for the advice!
I had one in the past. The trick is to keep the vehicle in first gear with the clutch fully squeezed when you are at a junction. Never put it in neutral at a junction as it's difficult to put it in first gear and do the pick up.

Reverse gear lever is available below the Handle. You have to lift the lever up and take reverse and put it back to its original place to start driving ahead.
no dude its a tvs so the reverse in the gear system.the beep sound comes when its one reverse
Bajaj has that,not tvs
Tvs has markings for which is for which in gear itself

Hi Chris and Sara,
Just a little starting tip on the TVS Autorickshaw,
1. After pressing the clutch and shifting it to 1st gear, release the clutch slowly and gently simultaneously increasing the throttle gradually but not too much throttle on the 1st gear(25-30%)
2. Shift to 2nd gear, this time release the gear smoothly and increase the throttle (approx 30-40%)
3. Shift to 3rd and also increasing throttle.
Hope my explanation helps 🙏🏽. Enjoy you piece from heaven 🛺
From Samuel, Mumbai, India.
I certify this. XD

Yeah I was about to say this they are releasing the clutch completely it has to be released slowly 😅
@@Kishooore They are making the tuk tuk pop a wheelie or something dude.
and it have the reverse gear marked as R. only the first gear needs to be released slowly.
So happy to see a TVS Auto running in the USA. Also very glad that it is withstanding all those clutch release tortures 😂😂. When you slowly (sllllooooowlyyyy) release a clutch you’ll hear a slight change in engine sound., that’s when you slightly give throttle. You’ll find the auto start to move like a flower blossoming. 😂😂

Small tip on releasing the cluch-- Release the clutch gently, release the full clutch only after rickshaw starts to move forward, just don't release at once ❤️
Hahahahahaha... I think they know that. Or will learn on their own. It is same as riding a scooter. I wonder if they ever had a scooter
I know, I winced every time I watched them squeeze the clutch and then just completely release it. It's not a click shifter like on a mountain bike lol, you have to ease it in.
Thanks
Ease the clutch out, at the same time as you give it some throttle. Slow on both. You'll start to feel the point where the clutch engages and disengages. Keep practicing! 👍
exactly, its actulay like a motobike with tree wheels, the old vespa had the same system
Thanks for the tip!
Came here to say the same thing. You're "popping" the clutch. It's not an abrupt on/off thing. There's a friction point that you'll get to know.
And don't rev too much on 1st gear. Hold the clutch when you change gear otherwise you would damage gear box/clutch plate. I am not a tuk tuk guy but that's how you drive a geared bike. Please watch videos on how to drive geared bike.
You are supposed to release the hand clutch slowly and increase the accelerator in harmony with releasing the clutch. e.g: release 1/4th clutch, accelerate a little, release 1/2 clutch, accelerate some more; release 3/4th clutch, accelerate some more; now the auto will start moving and you can take over; Also the sound of the engine also tells you the how much you have to accelerate; loud means too much. Its a smooth once you learn. You could also Watch some youtube tutorials. Enjoy!
yes that's it bhai
And it will become fine after first service. The engine rpm wi be adjusted to accommodate a lower rpm and stalling will not happen. This is true for most gear vehicles

In case you still haven’t figured out the reverse gear, it’s the long lever on the floor, left hand of the driver’s seat. You need to pull it up to reverse, and put it back to its original position once u are ready to more forward again
Lever system is in Bajaj. To avoid bending and stress on the back for driver, TVS has introduced reverse gear in the handle bar itself
Thanks! We finally figured that out!

No, you don't. They are a menace to society. Highly unstable cause of the 3 wheels, noisy, high carbon emissions, and a pain on the road for other drivers. These things are the main reason for the high accident rates in India.
@@turanamo that's not true sir, two wheelers cause the most number of accidents in india. It was fun to see you guys trying your hands on an Indian made auto-rickshaw. My dad was having identical manual transmission geared two-wheeler (Bajaj Super scooter). The trick for a smooth take off is to release the clutch on your left hand slowly and gradually without any initial acceleration. All the best.

@@chrisandsara why would you drive it without any basic motorcycle experience. Tuk tuk is same as motorcycle as for clutch. Every time you let go off clutch instalty my heart also hurts instantly 😂 I would say Rip to gear box, still some lives left I guess, please let go of clutch slowly as you turn the gas throttle slowly with it.
@@chrisandsara it's a rickshaw. Tuk tuk tends to be a bigger vehicle (3 tire but bigger)..
Don't just drop the clutch, you're damaging either it and/or the gearbox this way. Try to slowly release it until you feel it grabbing, then add a little throttle and release it slightly more, gently. Once you are moving you can release it fully (yet smoothly). It'll take a little practice but will become second nature quickly once you get it. I suspect reverse gear is on the other side of neutral than 1st gear, but that should be easy to google. Good luck and enjoy your funky little rickshaw.

Here is a training tip, both for (most) bikes and for (most) cars: On flat ground with no traffic: Try to release the clutch very slowly from idle (no throttle), just to get some muscle memory for where and how the clutch bites. The acceleration will move your body a bit backwards, this can cause sudden, very hard clutch operation. Followed by stalling or jumping. So your clutch hand (or leg) must not "follow", but operate in a relaxed way, almost decoupled from the rest of your body. After some training on idle, apply power and get the vehicle moving smoothy. Without cooking the poor clutch. It is REALLY not very difficult, just basic training. I taught both my sons to drive after starting this way. And this was the method I was told when I first rode a bike and drove a car, when around 12-13 years old.
Always wanted one of these, but was never sure if they were street legal in the US (plus logistic considerations like importation, fees, and parts always seemed to be a stumbling block).
The key here is to slowly release the clutch while increasing the throttle and there you go with a smooth ride, also when you turn it around make it a habit to slow down and turn it otherwise at higher speed it might topple up.
Enjoy!
Thanks for tip!
nope red oine tjen fast rwjes cañ ball run it
Those things are so underappreciated, wish there would be more of them! It would be impractical during the winter months of Canada but during the summer, it would be so perfect!
Why would you want more? They are just so uncomfortable. Maybe for your roads the stiff suspension is not an issue. But for us it’s way too stiff.
Winter would be rough but you're right about Canadian summer!
LMAO! EASE out the clutch while giving it gas! I was crying for that poor Tuk-Tuk's clutch!
Haha! Thanks for the tip!
Thanks Chris and Sara for bringing the memories of learning Bajaj Super back.I still remember when my dad tought me how to drive Bajaj Super when I was in my tenth class (1994). He gave me the verbal instructions first on school play ground. when I let the clutch go all the way out very quickly on first gear, it made it jump and stall, he smacked me on my head and said that I need to have co-ordination of releasing clutch and acceleration. Initially it seemed so difficult but after the first hour I drove the Bajaj home like a pro. My mother was so happy watching me riding it for first time. Pretty much all the Indian who grew up in India during 80s and 90 know how to drive manual transmission scooter, and bike . It is fun to drive it with top down , and just be careful while turning especially three wheeler .
It may seem odd but this is very useful for daily life, you can go market and can bring whole month vegetables and other stuff in it and can travel for short distance.
This video brought me so MUCH JOY! Great jobs guys! And as always- the editing is amazing!! :D
So glad we could bring some joy!! Thank you so much for watching!
Looks fun. There are loads of battery powered autorickshaws now getting sold by companies like Mahindra, Bajaj and Kinetic. Those require little driving skills and are excellent for joyrides. I took over from the driver a few days back and managed to drive 7kms of fairly busy roads. It was great! Haven't tried a conventional one yet.
Well I’m glad to see you having so much fun, please stay off busy streets as this really not safe at all. I want one.
Happy to see the tuk tuk accepted in DMV. There is indeed a Market for electric tuk tuks. Hope @mahindra and @tvs are watching your videos. Tip: Timing between the clutch release and the throttle is key.
On normal flat roads: Slowly release the clutch on gear 1, with slight throttle.
On the up slope: more throttle and slowly release the clutch on gear 1.
Never release the clutch so fast, else it will wear off faster.
Hope this helps
Thank you for the advice!
I can't wait for this to be the new trend! This thing is awesome!
Congratulations ! Smart purchase!
Some tips:
Hold the clutch, change the gear (the first gear to begin with) release the clutch gently and deftly, little by little, while accelerating gently, and finally get perfection ! Again, similarly from 1st gear to 2nd gear. Going to 3rd and then to 4th gears are more facile, 3rd to 4th even sans clutch. Use the lever on the floor, usually on the right hand side for reversing. Enjoy your rides.
Best wishes.

Hey chris one key suggestion is never feel stressed wile driving manual cause it may freeze you ,and feel the power of it ,honestly i drove many auto and manual ones but the fun part is manually changing the gears and driving it is the real fun as you completely own a vehicle instead of relying on some actuators.Slowly give raise on acceleration and release the clutch so you wont feel the jerk while engaging the clutch after some days you will get a smooth start and never raise it too much and engage the clutch it might damage your clutch .
that's great advice, thank you!
Hey Chris and Sara
Congratulations for the Rickshaw / TuckTuck
You guys are doing great as far as operating the vehicle,
The gear shift is liner, i.e it will go in sequence,
Neutral for ignition and self
1st gear to start moving (Please leave the Clutch - the break like liver a bit slowly when you shift gear form Neutral to First gear and so on. Plz don't leave the clutch liver immediately when you shift gear, that the only thing you guys are doing it wrong.)
2nd/3rd/4th all gears shift with clutch pressed and then slowly leave it once you go a comfortable momentum.
Slowly you will get used to it, I am sure its a 6 months old video so you guys must have already championed the above steps. Still I felt like sharing.
Enjoy your small little cute ride .. its very dynamic and useful little vehicle.
I was born in India and as a Chattanooga local this gives me tremendous joy seeing a Rickshaw in Chattanooga. I HIGHLY recommend you visit India.
Why don't you visit them and take a ride on that rickshaw?
Hopefully you can see us riding it around Chattanooga sometime!
I would love to get one of these and do tours around my city. Looks like a lot of fun!
If you're looking to make the shifting easier, its possible the clutch needs adjustment. This is usually an easy process since it should just be a cable like a motorcycle.
Otherwise, practice feeling for the friction zone, which should be roughly halfway out when you release the clutch lever. As long as you hold the RPMs up, it shouldn't stall.
I have a feeling the clutch is engaging late (when the lever is almost all the way out) so it's awkward keeping the revs up toward the end of the clutch throw
Nice! Looks like it would be a lot of fun to drive. Be careful the short wheel base it would be easy to roll over while turning too fast. Try easing out the clutch while giving a little gas you should be able to take off without jerking.
Once we got the hang of it, it's been pretty fun! Thanks for the tips!

We're so slammed with our build this is a welcome break and hysterical joy to watch. Needed this🤣 Hope to see you on the road somewhere soon. Blessings friends, James and Kim ❤️
Haha so glad we were able to give ya a good laugh!! Would love to see y'all on the road!
That's a Cute Car 😘😘😘😘👍
I Have seen these Tuk Tuks in India....
You Can Customise it's Colour 😂
Can Install Doors...
But This Thing is Really Adorable 🥰
I'm originally from Chennai and this auto gives me nostalgia. That's the exact same build as our local autos. Other cities like Bangalore have slightly different models.
Awesome! We hope you enjoyed the video.
Release the clutch gently, don't let go of it in one go and feather the throttle along while you are at it... You guys will become a smooth operator... best wishes and cheers to your new adventure 🙏 Namastay.
Your Tuk Tuk is so cute! I want to go for a ride around Chattanooga with y’all!
Thanks! If you see us on it around time say hello!
gotta be slow and gentle when releasing the clutch from a dead stop.. you'll find the sweet spot that will allow you to roll away smoothly
Don’t dump the clutch. Ease off the clutch handle while maintaining some throttle.
Oh my, Y'all put a smile on my face ☺️!!!
Yay so glad to hear it!
I can tell you all day about manual tuk tuks to motor cycles to cars :-)
One thing is about practice and the most important thing is about releasing your clutch with respect to the accelerator press. Different vehicles behave with different sensitivity but you got to learn to adjust it. Lot of people get anxiety if they are in an uphill so beware of it.
I love these guys so excited 😆... It's Indian product...we use it for quick commuting
Ease out on the clutch while feathering the gas. Don’t pop the clutch
Convert it to an electric motor, use your solar to charge, turn it quiet. Add some doors. Make it Free Travel.
Love that idea!!! 😁
@@chrisandsara Solar panel on top and drive forever into the sunset...

Haha can't wait to see this be the next best thing in the US , turns out couple years later riding an auto around Silicon valley is a thing.
Don't be afraid to use the friction zone as you release the clutch. Think of every start in a tuktuk as a hill start in a car.
OMG we were dying! We laughed at the fact that you guys are all too young to be comfortable with driving a manual vehicle. You guys need to get some of us older folks to help you. :) You're "popping the clutch." As others have already said, you have to SLOWLY release the clutch as you give it gas. Think of a see saw - If you jump off the low end, the person on the high end will come crashing down. If you wait until you're both level and slowly get off the other person won't fall hard. Love you guys! Sue & Chelle from Minnesota
That's a great way to look at it, thanks!
Strange feeling, your yellow toy is basically someones livelihood. Good to see you having fun with it
8:49 The way you release the clutch of the rickshaw is quite brutal, and that too in second gear when you are already in a stationary position.....
Good to know!
