In my experience, Asian hair can really take a beating! I'm half Japanese, with naturally straight, sleek, black hair. I have had my hair bright purple, neon pink, turquoise, blonde, brown, cherry red, pink and black, blonde again, turquoise and black, brown again, and now back to my natural shade. :) My hair has only been severely damaged after arrogantly trying to bleach it twice in one day after already using two color removers. It is now returning to its natural healthiness! So thankful for the amazing hair I've been blessed with!

I've had every colour in some shape or form bar dyed grey, I started getting grey in my roots quite young and swapped back to my natural colour for less hassle. Mostly use wigs now and on the hunt for a nice grey one, I want it more every time I see your hair.

Hi Wendy. I have a couple of questions please: 1.How do you keep your hair from getting oily when you're not washing your hair? 2. and what do you use/ do if you want to change your hairstyle in between washes (eg., from straight to curly or vice versa)? 3. Do you retouch your haircolor 9n your own or do you go to a salon? Thank youuuu ❤

Girl ... for most African Americans like myself don't have to wash their hair for months.
I prefer not washing mines for 2-3 months bc it doesn't stink, doesn't get greasy and it helps my hair grow faster bc I'm not depriving it from its natural oils that my body provides! So it's all good! Do what you must to be the YOU you enjoy and love!

Girl, you need to get on that Olaplex wagon. Splurge for it on Amazon/eBay (at least the step 3) and/or find a salon that uses it. Your hair will thank you! My hair is also naturally very dark brown/black, and is currently blue (I bleach it to anywhere from an 8-10 depending, then tone, then color with Pravana Vivids - there's a silver too). Been doing this a year and my hair is still pretty darn healthy, even doing it myself. I'd be lying if I said there was *no* damage, but definitely only about half as much as there *should be*. I alternate/mix step 3 with the Living Proof restore mask bc it's way cheaper for the quantity :x Adding step 1 to the bleach and rinsing w/step 2 are really what keep the hair healthy during processing.
edit: I also only wash it once a week, so you're def not alone there :p

Girl, I highly recommend round brush blow drying instead of straightening. I do it instead and I also only wash my hair once a week. It keeps it's volume and tames well. Every now and then I do curl my hair but I don't have breakage. I do use mask, oils, and leave ins also.

I'm sorry this could sound like hating but the way to put mask on is completely wrong, when you wash your hair with shampoo you have to make sure you coat your fingers only on shampoo and go straight through your hair to the scalp and really massage your SCALP ONLY, then wash out, when you have bleached hair double shampooing is a VERY, VERY, VERY bad idea, thrust me I had my hair bleached for three years now and I've had decent hair only for a couple of months now thanks to this method. So was my massaging a quantity sufficient to coat your entire scalp, you should use an organic shampoo as they are waaay more gentle because they do not contain sodium sulfates. When you have to apply masks, conditioners and oils you should coat your whole palms in product, flip your head of hair upside down and start by touching the ends and proceeding towards the scalp, anyways no conditioning agents are supposed to touch your actual scalp, if your scalp is balanced it will not need any oils or conditioners. This doesn't look like a lot but it makes ALL the difference, it changed the way my curly hair look completely and I got my natural curl pattern back 😍😍😍

so little tips: if your hair is brassier or yellower, use the clairol SHAMPOO BEFORE YOU HAIR IS WET and leave it on for how many minutes you want the color to be more pigmented (the longer you make the shampoo stay, the more purple your hair is) make sure your roots and ends covered...
when using the conditioner: leave it on for 8 - 10 minutes (once, i accidentally left it on for 30 minutes because i was watching Game of Thrones and my hair was mad purple... but 5 hours later i decided to wash my hair again without the clairol shampoo but with keratin based shampoo AND MY HAIR COLOR WAS AMAZINGLY GREY LIKE THE FIRST TIME I DYED IT)
so Clairol shampoo is very experimental
after the clairol shampoo i used Kerastase (blue tube/bottle coloured) conditioner, then use the clairol conditioner, then hair mask
and after shower i use argan oil for my hair
then after it dried a little bit i use Makarizo vitamax (or any hair vitamin & heat protectant)

I don't know if you blow dry your hair, but when I had colored hair the ends got hella straw and disgusting. I used Organix argon oil and coconut oil to make the ends feel less disgusting. I got tiny bottles from the grocery store and they made my ends behave better and look shiny and healthy. I put it on before blow dry so it wasn't as piecy in the end

How much would you say it costs to get your hair done initially and then maintain it? That's the most daunting thing to me.
I'm finally at a job that will allow more than just 'natural' hair colors so I've been curious about doing this to my own hair.

  • @LivinLaVidaLoca143

I love this video! I've been debating to go gray/silver for a while now but because I also have Asian hair, I wasn't sure because of color and what not. Out of curiosity, how much do you spend on your hair maintenance from re-dyeing to all the shampoos and stuff? Thanks!

    • @withwendy
      @withwendy  8 лет назад

+LivinLaVidaLoca143 For my dye jobs to get to this shade, including tip it was about $300 in total (but I got a really good discount, through my research the ranges can get up to $600). For all the haircare products I use, it comes to about $200 that will take care of me for the next few months. Hope that helps!

I am in my 6o's and have stop dying my hair because I have become almost totally grey. Why would young girls want to be grey??? It is a pain to dye when your hair is actually grey! Roots are such a lot of work keeping them from growing out...plus like you say it is really damaging to your hair and scalp and it can cause permanent damage after time and when you actually turn grey your hair begins to go ball especially in the crown...so again I am completely confused why young women would go grey before their time!
