    Good evening
    I have been following you for a week, I have a CS3 control panel and I am on the video for the Link 88 and S88 Link, I have a question before continuing on this path: I heard at the club that I am part of that it would be necessary to cut the strip under track C to make retrosignaling and that it is necessary to do the same thing to all the tracks.
    Can you confirm this operation.
    Thank you for your answer.
    Kind regards

      Hi Daniel, if you are asking about how to make the contact track, then yes you need to cut a certain place underneath the C-track. The C-track is made for this operation. You can see more about how to create and troubleshoot contact tracks in this video: ruclips.net/video/2FMWxEPm__Y/видео.html Hope this helps! Enjoy ;-) Bo

    Hello Bo. Can I reset my Central Station 3 (3+) more or less completely. I have a preowned CS3+ and it looks as it is inconsistent. I had a fully functionional Digikejis DR4088RB working with my Z21-system. But I wanted to "upgrade" to CS3+ but I could not make it work. I tried to solve it by buying a Marklin 60881 decoder instead but it did no seem to make it work. And I wonder whether it is due to inconsistensy. TFP3 / GFP3-1

    • @ModelTrainFun
      @ModelTrainFun  10 месяцев назад

      Hi Georg,
      Most of the time when I find inconsistent S88 behaviour it is due to dirty track/wheels. Also make sure you have a good cable from the CS3 to the S88 and a good wire for the grounding from the S88 to the track (brown wire). Remember you must only have one grounding to all your S88s.
      Another tip could be to use the L88 (Märklin 60883) together with the Märklin 60881, then you can adjust the L88 to use 12v instead of 5v - which also increases reliability. However, if it worked with the Z21 I suspect you should be able to also make it work with the CS3?
      Resetting the CS3 is easy - just restore the "startconfig". I am on Xmas vacation and not near my CS3, so I don't entirely remember the filename and howto... but it's something like: Go into the settings: System->System->CS3->Restore and there should be a startconfig file you can restore. This is the reset of the CS3. In older versions I find that you have to restore the startconfig and then turn off/on the CS3 to be entirely sure.
      Finally, consider upgrading to the latest version of the CS3 software - however, the current latest v2.5.1 seems to be unstable, so consider waiting until a new one is out.
      Hope this helps! Enjoy ;-)

    Hello, I realise this is an old video, but maybe you will notice this comment. I am trying to load an ESU Loco using DCC, not mfx! It is 6 years old, and holds 15 mfx functions, but 25 DCC ones. When loaded and placed on the main track, it keeps reloading mfx and will not run with DCC. I also get conflicts if I try to run the DCC copy, can you help?…… TonyH

    • @ModelTrainFun
      @ModelTrainFun  3 месяца назад +1

      Hi Tony,
      You can turn off the M4 on the ESU decoder to prevent it from loading as M4 (old MFX). You can find the manual for your ESU decoder here: www.esu.eu/en/downloads/instruction-manuals/digital-decoders. As an example, on page 39 of the LokSound V4.0 manual you can see that you can see that you can turn off M4 in CV47 by disabling bit 1 (subtract 2).
      You can do this in the following by:
      1. Turn off MFX in CS3
      1a. Go to System->System->CS3-> Track protocol
      1b. Turn off mfx
      2. Create the locomotive as DCC
      2a. Pull up bottom tab
      2b. Select "Add locomotive"
      2c. Use DCC and address 3
      2d. Hit ok
      3. Test locomotive
      3a. Put locomotive on track
      3b. Turn light on/off to see it is connected
      4. Put locomotive on programming track
      4a. ensure track is very clean
      5. Change CV47 to exclude mfx (-2)
      5a. Pull up bottom tab
      5b. Select "Edit Locomotive"
      5c. select the locomotive you added
      5d. Go to tab "Configuration"
      5e. Select burger (3 lines)->Insert CV
      5f. Enter 47 as CV
      5g. should now read the CV - if not use Burger->Readout decoder
      5h. Value in CV47 is default 15
      5i. To turn off mfx enter value 13 or subtract 2 from value shown.
      I succeeded in doing this with my ESU V60 AiX. Had lots of trouble as my track was not clean. If you get read out error, then ensure track, wheels and locomotive is clean - you must have excellent power pickup to perform the programming.
      Hope this helps! Enjoy ;-) Bo

      Sounds like an interesting issue? Did you update you CS3 to v2.5.1? If so, then this might be the issue if you are talking about non-Märklin decoders as it seems the latest v2.5.1 has an issue with some non-Märklin decoders. Rumours has it that a v2.5.2 is coming soon... but unsure about this.

      Hejsa Stald,
      If the CS3 is warning you about an address already being used then change the address of the locomotive to another to avoid conflicts. You can continue if you are sure you never have both locomotives on the track at the same time. However, best to say "No" and change the address of one of the locomotives.
      Hvis CS3en kommer med denne advarsel om at adressen allerede bliver brugt så ænder adressen for lokomotivet til noget andet for at undgå konflikt. Du kan fortsætte hvis du er sikker på at begge lokomotiver aldrig er på sporet på samme tid. Men det er bedst at sige "Nej" og ændre adressen for et af lokomotiverne.
      Enjoy ;-)

      @stald ejebo If it is MFX, then you do not need to change the address, the CS3 automatically handles all addressing - just put it on the track. If it does not discover use Edit->Rediscover lost MFX Locomotives in the bottom locomotive list panel. If it is a very old digital locomotive, then it might have a dip switch - check the manual.
      If it is a MM/MM2/FX or DCC locomotive, then
      1. Put it on the programming track.
      2. Create a new locomotive.
      3. In locomotive panel in the bottom choose Edit-> Edit Locomotive and choose the locomotive. If you know the address enter it. If not, the use "Read".
      4. Change the address and it is automatically written to the locomotive. You can also use the configuration tab if you want to fiddle with CVs directly
      5. Move the locomotive to your layout

      Hi Walter, it seems like the CS3 does not entirely fit your needs. I do agree that it can be difficult to use the touch screen - however there are a few ways around it depending how you like to work:
      - You can use a stylus to select on the screen
      - You can connect a mouse using the USB ports. You might also be able to connect a keyboard (have not tried keyboard myself).
      - You can connect the Mobile Station 2 (MS2) to your CS3 for simpler usage.
      - You can use the simplified UI for easier use
      - You can use the CS3 from a PC or tablet with a much bigger screen
      The simplified UI requires that you have updated your CS3 to at least v2.3.1. This video shows you how to update your CS3 if you need to: ruclips.net/video/opV2N25FF8k/видео.html You can see the simplified UI here ruclips.net/video/N2Wgc7goR0Q/видео.html Here you can see how to change from standard to simplified UI: ruclips.net/video/N2Wgc7goR0Q/видео.html
      Using the CS3 from a PC or tablet requires you connect the CS3 to the same network as you have your PC/tablet as shown in the video to update the CS3 above. After that you can access the web pages of the CS3 directly. I have not done a video on this yet. You have to connect your CS3 to your home network as shown in ruclips.net/video/opV2N25FF8k/видео.html&t=19s Then you can go to the web page of the CS3 by entering the IP of the CS3. In the video my CS3 has IP address "192.168.0.49". In some web browsers you might have to enter "192.168.0.49".
      Hope this helps - or you find another solution.
      Enjoy ;-)

    How do i add locomotive photos to the CS3?

    • @ModelTrainFun
      @ModelTrainFun  2 года назад

      There are two ways: using the web interface or USB. If you have the latest version of the CS3 software v2.3.1-8 or above the easiest is to use the web interface. The web interface will automatically resize the icon for you and as I understand it you can use any format.
      If you are using an USB, then create folder cs3 with a sub folder lokicons (e.g. F:\cs3\lokicons) and place a .png file here. Insert the USB in the CS3 in one of the white USB ports, then when you edit the locomotive you can click on the picture and choose USB, select the lokicons folder and select your picture. It is important that the picture is .png and small. Using the web interface I got a size of 384x143 (63.1 KB) - you will need something in this range. Note: if you insert an empty USB in the CS3 and try to load an image by selecting the "lokicons" folder on the USB, then it will automatically create the necessary folder structure on your USB.
      You can see how to upload using the web interface in the CS3 manual on page 32 and how to connect the CS3 to the network so you can use the web interface on page 26: streaming.maerklin.de/public-media/anleitungen/CS3_Manual_EN_final-lo.pdf
      Can be a little tricky, but once you have tried it, it is not too difficult. This could be a good topic for a video on in the future. I will add this to the list of ideas. Enjoy ;-)

    Very interesting and helpful for encouraging newcomers as me. Thanks a lot for your great work! Please allow me to take the opportunity to ask you for an information how to get out of a problem I do not know how to solve:😶‍🌫
    I got a second hand locomotive. It's a PICO Locomotive and it definitively has a built-in quadro mod decoder onboard which is also mfx-capable (ESU LokPilot 5.0) . I tested it and as soon as the loc was on the track, the mfx process started. That's the problem! I want to add that locomotive using a DCC address. I consider to add all my locomotives by using the DCC protocoll (til now nearly all my locs are mfx-capable).
    How did you "convince the CS3+" NOT to use mfx automatically and how can I "re-convince" the Central Station afterwards to use mfx further on again? Can you help for that?

    • @ModelTrainFun
      @ModelTrainFun  Год назад

      Hi Rudi,
      I am glad the video has helped you.
      I am assuming you would like to use DCC as the ESU lokPilot does not support as many functions on MFX as DCC? Otherwise I would always go with MFX. If it's a LokPilot without sound the functions available might even be enough. Consider using MFX.
      If you want to use DCC with the ESU LokPilot instead of MFX then the best way is to turn off MFX in the decoder. Looking in the LokPilot manual: www.esu.eu/en/downloads/instruction-manuals/digital-decoders/
      You can change CV47 to set protocols available. Notice this is a bit selection. However, it is easier to change in MFX
      I suggest that you do the following:
      1. register with MFX
      2. use MFX to turn of MFX in the decoder (in the locomotive settings)
      3. remove locomotive from CS3
      4. add locomotive as DCC
      You can change CV47 to enable MFX again. CV47=7 should enable DCC, M4 (MFX) and MM. Unfortunately I am on travel and do not have my CS3 so I could give you mode detailed steps for step 2 above. When I am back with my CS3 I can help with more details - unfortunately on traven until May.
      Hope this helps! Enjoy ;-)

    • @ModelTrainFun
      @ModelTrainFun  Год назад

      You can convince the CS3 to not do MFX in System->CS3. Scroll down and you see the protocols. However, as soon as you enable it again - I believe it will try to register the locomotive with MFX. Best to turn off MFX in decoder to avoid mistakes later. Enjoy ;-)

      Hi Bo,
      your answers are extremely helpful! Thousand thanks for that!
      The background, why I will change to the DCC protocol for my locomotives, is the fear of lacking addresses in the future 👀. I m not sure wether the usage of MFX locomotive addresses decreases the relatively small MFX address space for my other decoders as turnouts, m83, m84, lights and so on (sorry, I m a beginner 👶 in digital control). I still have to check that out! And DCC address space is much bigger as far as I know.
      Thanks for the link to the ESU LokPilot manual 👃. I immediately began to "eat it" in order to gain more knowledge. I read there
      "For safety reasons the protocol used for writing into CV 47 cannot
      be turned off. If you use, for instance, an ESU ECOS and write
      CV 47 in DCC format then the DCC protocol will remain on. If
      you use a 6021 then, of course, the Motorola® protocol cannot
      be turned off." (see p. 45: 9.5. Turning off data protocols not needed)
      So to turn off the usage of the M4 protocol in the LokPilot 5 I have to use f.e. the DCC protocol in the then writing Central Station. I hope that will work as you suggested. I am really exicited. Can't wait to try it tonight!

      Hi Bo,
      Want to inform you of my experience. Hope I will get all together correctly.
      1) in the CS-3 I choose the MFX locomotive via "locomotive menu > edit > edit locomotives" and clicking onto the locomotive's picture in the list.
      2) I erased the locomotive out of the list by clicking onto the trash can symbol.
      3) I manualy added a DCC locomotive and changed the adress of that locomotive.
      4) Now in the Configuration window I could read CVs, add CVs to the list and edit all CVs shown in my list.
      5) I detected that the common speed and brake/accelerate values as set in the window for that seem to have higher priority than values for the same CVs set in the list in the configuration window.
      6) The DCC locomotive moves now apparently according to the changed settings.
      7) I additionally setup zur locomotive by MFX and could drive it "simultaneously" by MFX AND by DCC (CV 47 set to value 3) using one red knob for the MFX locomotive and the other for the DCC locomotive!!!!!

    • @ModelTrainFun
      @ModelTrainFun  Год назад

      Hi Rudi,
      The Märklin Motorola (MM) adresses for accessories and locomotives do not conflict - there are two different adresses. Hence, you can have a turnout on MM address 1 and a locomotive on MM address 1. DCC is yet another address range. If you use MFX for an accessory it is MFX controlled with standard MM address. For locomotives I believe it is a separate address range, but I am a little unsure. If you use MFX with DCC it is MFX controlled DCC address. To be honest if you are a beginner i would not worry about running out of addresses. Furthermore, the CS3 can control MFX, MM and DCC at the same time...
      I have yet to run out of addresses...
      Enjoy ;-)

      Hi Stald,
      If you cannot add a MFX locomotive to the CS3 try to put the locomotive on a place where you are sure it has electrical connectivity close to where you power the track. Then use the functionality for rediscovering lost locomotives. Go to the locomotive list in the bottom, select Edit->Rediscover lost mfx locomotives. You can see how to in the video here: ruclips.net/video/pEg0LakeGeY/видео.html
      Hvis du ikke kan tilføje et MFX lokomotiv til CS3en, så prøv at putte lokomotivet et sted på sporet, hvor du er sikker på at den har god forbindelse nær et sted hvor du tilslutter strømmen til sporet. Derefter kan du bruge funktionaliteten til at genfinde mfx lokomotiver, som CS3en ikke har fundet. Åben lokomotiv listen i bunden og klik på Edit->Rediscover lost mfx locomotives. Du kan se hvordan i videoen her: ruclips.net/video/pEg0LakeGeY/видео.html
      Hope this helps. Enjoy ;-)
