In Missouri, there is a small form at the bottom of a title that the buyer/seller both sign with price, etc. that the seller keeps and can take with them to the DMV and the DMV will take the sale cost of the old vehicle off of the price of the new vehicle you’re trying to pay sales tax on/license. No dealer courtesy BS.
Nice truck, Adam. Impressed with your rationale in selecting the truck that works for you and discounting others opinions on what they think you should’ve purchased. Well done.
I went from a 2002 to a 2019. The creature features make you feel like a king. You will like the benefits of the bigger truck.
A couple of clarifications on things you said in your video: 1) Not all states provide a credit towards new vehicle taxes when trading in. Some states don't give any credit at all and others limit how much credit you can get regardless of the trade in value. For example, Michigan currently caps the trade in credit at $14,000 max (about $860 in tax savings). 2) you mentioned you have to have a CDL if you are twoing above 26K pounds. This is true for you since you have a firewood business and you are likely using your truck for you business, but if you own a personal truck and are pulling your personal trailer/RV for recreation/personal use, you do not need a CDL. Thanks for all of the great tips on buying and selling a vehicle.
I have a new Tundra. Heated and ventilated seats in the front and rear. Everyone in the family loves them. After playing 18 holes on a hot summer day, it’s quite refreshing.
Happy for you Adam. It looks great. 👍
I do have to correct you on time stamp 2:18 you said most people are looking for diesels in 3/4 ton. A search on the internet says that ford sells significantly more gas, three quarter tons trucks than diesel.
My previous new truck, a 2018 was a diesel, i bought it right before retirement. Thinking I was gonna keep it until I don't tow anymore, but like you mentioned there's headaches. This time, in 2023 I went back to gas 3/4 ton. With its 14,500 conventional tow and 16,600 gooseneck it fits my needs.
I do have a diesel tip for you.....
When you buy your jugs of DEF save the containers. Then when you have 2 or 3 go to a truck stop to buy DEF at the DEF pump and refill your containers. It's usually around half the price as buying a jugs in a store.
Have a Jesus filled day everyone
Greg in Michigan
The problem with diesel 3/4 tons is the payload isn’t much more than a 1/2 ton. The 10k gvwr combined with a heavy diesel really limits you in terms of payload. I bet he only gained about 200-400 pounds of payload compared to his 1/2 ton. Nice truck but there are several reasons why he got “a deal” on it.
Thanks Greg. That is a great tip on the Def
Good good explanation on the GVW weights and CDL requirements, most people don’t know that, nice truck !
Bought a 2002 GMC Duallie with the 8.1 liter. Still parked in my driveway; looks as good as the day I bought it; no rust or body damage. Had Linex rustproof it & I swear by them. Brake lines, tires & service oils after all this time. Linex was the answer to corrosion.
I was a body man. Keep an eye out on where the body meets the frame. Where metal and aluminum come together they can galvanic corrosion so they have a spacer between
Tip. Dont let the new diesel engines just sit in your driveway idling. Sitting at a light in traffic is one thing but in your driveway shut it off. Your newer diesel engine will last longer.
Beautiful truck! Change the spacer block between the axle and leaf springs and you’ll have your F-350. Only real difference there 👍🏻
Tire upgrades, and ranch hand bumpers plus a flat bed. Flat bed is so nice for hauling and much easier when hooking up goosenecks. If you need bed rails, have neighbor doug help you fab some metal side boards. Ranch hand front winch bumper, not because you need a winch, if your like me its not a matter of if but when you smoke a deer. 2000 for a bumper is almost cheaper then your deductible on your insurance and no loosing your truck if you hit a deer. Plus having the winch if needed is always a bonus. After a while look at a self leveling air bag system for the back.
Always keep a set of filters and diesel 911 with you in case you gel up. We run power service in all of our stuff including our semi. Almost 5million miles between the last two big rigs. Everything gets power service treated heavy and havnt had any gel up issues. Always try to keep your tanks full helps prevent moisture.
Every one will tell you what to get for tires, on our duramax we put a set of sumimoto encounter ats. They are deep tread with good bite but quiet on the road, and they are snow and ice dot rated tires. Depends on what size rims you have, toyo makes amazing tires as well.
Never let your truck idle for to long, the def systems hate idle. Also try to run the hell out of it every week. It needs to run at least an hour every week. We have had more issues with the def on our duramax because we dont drive it everyday. We use it for pulling horse trailer and equipment and it isnt a daily thing.
You can do under coating your self, fluid film makes a black lanolin based coating that displaces water and never dries. It works really well.
For your bed cover, we have a retrax on ours and its very nice.
You’re gonna want aggressive all terrain tires yesterday. Those trucks get stuck when they look at mud with those tires 😅
My son has the same truck and loves it. Very strong truck and handles heavy loads well with added air bags.
I agree! But just had the four-wheel-drive and generally, it’ll get you out unless you’re really in bed stuff.
You made a GREAT choice on your new truck! It’s a gorgeous ride and I would be proud to own one! Congratulations!
Congratulations Adam, nice looking truck and better overall deal strategy
Great video Adam! Hopefully I see you at the show!
In Arizona, you only pay sales tax if you buy it at a dealer. No sales tax on private sales.
Happy for you bro keep the videos coming we are learning so much from you
Never heard of a courtesy trade. Thanks for sharing the details of your sales and purchase experience.
Love that big screen. Had my eye on the same but the market was less favorable when I bought. Still pleased with my 350 Diesel. I did the Falken Wild Peaks as I live at the end of a half mile of gravel road and our garden is halfway back on the property so I have to drive through a stream an up a 16% hill in the dirt. While they aren't as good in the thick mud as my old Nitto MTs, they don't sing on the freeway and they are way better in ice and wet than the MTs were. We're gonna get the same set for the wife's Expedition as they seem to do the trick. Congrats on the truck, you'll be amazed at the difference pulling the dump trailer with it.
Congrats on your new to you F250. I traded my 2010 xlt F150 gas for a new 2022 lariat gas 22,000 miles ago. I needed a stronger pull vehicle for our RV. I have zero regrets other than the purchase price of $ 58k but at that time used F250's were very close to new $$. Got my current truck near end of model year. A couple more years and its paid off. Enjoy it, love the Lariat features!!!
I usually skip past any advertisements on RUclips videos. Today, I was intrrigued. Might be checking this Mando out. Thanks.
Adam, get yourself a good diesel additive, put it in every time you fill up. Also look into some of the bank’s performance parts get an upgraded airbox, and the filter back exhaust. Also look into the banks throttle control helps with the lag on the 6.7s just a few pieces of advice to keep the engine running good. Last piece of advice ALWAYS use the motorcraft filters when you do the oil changes the fit properly unlike other brands.
Look into that S&S Diesel DCR pump or their Disaster Prevention Kit. The CP4 pump failure on that truck will cost you thousands. I'm trying to save you money and down time. You might enjoy Power Stroke Tech Arod's videos as he works on those trucks almost exclusively.
Greetings from a very small time producer in north central Indiana. We are gonna be in Louisville for the 29th consecutive year (besides the Covid shutdown year). Looking forward to meeting you!
Nice truck (except for those passenger car tires)! Get yourself a set of Cooper Discoverer AT3’s. On road, off road, mud, snow just a good all around truck tire. Never been stuck (well there was that one time, stay outta swamps). My wife even runs them on her JK. Oh yeah… my truck isn’t some “ Hey look, I got a 4wd, but I wouldn’t dare get it dirty truck”. It’s my go anywhere firewood hauling work truck.
Love the truck!! Good choice!! 2022 Ford F250 is what I’ve been shopping for as well for the same reasons. I prefer the older body style but the nicer interior. I haven’t made the decision on gas or diesel yet but it will depend on the price difference similar to your situation.
Nice looking truck Adam. Diesel is the way to go for towing and having been a subscriber for a while, I know full well the amount of research and thinking you do. I am not a brand loyalist as all brands have their issues and faults. Either way, happy that you found your new truck and got a good deal on it. Definitely agree about getting some A/T tires. 👍🏻👍🏻
Congratulations Adam, you’ve got a Sweet Looking Ride and you made a Profitably Choice by bringing your Accounting Skills into the mix. You’re going to be Smiling for Miles and Hauling Profits all the way to the Bank with the added Scope in your ability to increase the loads and haul future Equipment thus expanding your Endeavours/Revenue Streams. Truck On, let the Adventures begin. 😀👍👍👍
on all my 2500 fords in the past i added air bags so the truck kept more level and road better. adding leaf spings make it ride stiffer. the air bags can be adjust bassed on the nee at the moment. good luck with your new truck
Congratulations on the purchase of your new truck!
New vehicles are always a adventure learning what all the features it has.
Congratulations best of luck with your purchase have a wonderful day from VA
Beautiful truck, I love the white color. Congrats. 😁
Nice truck Adam! I agree with you on the headlights, yours is way better than the new ones. I wish the auto manufacturers would stop changing things so often - cars and trucks. Seems like every 1 to 3 years they're making major changes to how their vehicles look. Just leave them alone for 7 to 10 years! Think Taurus, Crown Vic... a couple of the best selling vehicles they had and they barely changed how they looked over many many years. Minor tweaks-updates for sure, but stop major redesigning how vehicles look!
Congrats Adam, best of luck with the new truck.
The cdl requirements are the biggest reason I got my 2500 ram, pair that with my suretrac 15,600lb gvw gooseneck I can tow plenty, any more and I’ll just get a full size dump truck and 20 ton tag trailer
On a side note, I have the same gooseneck hitch , make sure you pull that out every time your done with it,
Mine is currently stuck , I’ve had the whole back of the truck off the ground trying to pull it out
Nice looking truck. I’m with you on selling and buying privately. If you know what to look for you can get good deals. Guys with any kind of mechanical knowledge know what to look for. You made a good choice. That truck will last you years. Good stuff
Hey Adam, that’s a nice truck. Hope it serves you well. That should be a great hauler. If I can offer a bit of advice I suggest getting it Krown rust proofed annually. It will prevent rust from happening. It’ll save your frame, brake and fuel lines and aluminum body parts from oxidizing if your plans are to keep it long term. I have 2, 2011 vehicles that have no rust whatsoever. It’s honestly a great product and saves your investment.
Cheers Woody !!!
great video!! Great explanation of the CDL. I argue with people all the time when i say i can tow more with my 3/4 ton vs 1 ton.
Adam, you know that white truck is the way forward after a black one. Nothing looks sharper than black but the care required to keep it looking sharp and clean is much less with a white one. Enjoy your new baby. 👌
Another solid decision. Congratulations.
Just make sure you run a good diesel fuel lubricity additive. XPD and Archoil for example. Ultra low sulfur diesel just doesn’t have the lubricity these high pressure CPF pumps need.
Congrats man!!
Beautiful truck! Congrats my man! We’ve got the same color super duty!
Im in the market for an f250 as well, love the look of them. I currently have a tundra in the same situation that you're in. If only toyota made a 3/4 ton, id definitely buy it. Ive put 140k miles on my tundra and never had a single issue with anything. Just typical maintenance
I loved my Tacoma and I agree. If Toyota made a heavy duty truck I would have highly considered it
Just keep the tundra, 351k miles on mine all original, pulls up to around 8k~ bumper no problem. Anything above that weight would be better with fifth wheel for longer pulls
Great purchase Adam, I have owned the big three and like the Ford better than the Ram/Cummins and GM/Duramax combo. I highly recommend looking into replacing your CP4 pump all together with the S&S Diesel DCR pump. The CP4 is a known problem and you can do your own research about it, but it will fail and it's costly. I opted to install the DCR to avoid any chance of the CP4 failing and ruining the fuel system. $2000 for the DCR vs $10,000 ish if the CP4 fails. The disaster prevention kit is an ok bandaide, but just replace the pump. Remember short trips are hard on the emissions, get that thing on the highway and drive it, tow with it, work it. That's what they need to stay reliable. The 6.7 with a ten speed is an absolute animal in terms of power.
Get the BFG all terrain KO3….set you back about 1800…don’t get the same size as the Michelin, step it up a couple…they’ll fit…..and heat up and remove the stupid sticker on the bed…..now you’ll know which white 250 is yours at the home depot!
well done mr accountant, looks like the perfect vehicle for your situation, congratulations!
That truck looks brand new!! Wow, I am really excited for you and wish you the best of luck with it. I am interested to hear how you like the diesel for regular driving as well as towing. Good work, congrats!
Congratulations!! She's a beauty!
Very nice truck Adam. You are going to love it hauling and on a family trips.
I've been driving the same Chev diesel for 18 years.
I'm 71 and I have never bought a new pickup.
Buying used is a good idea. The best way to find one is the run an ad looking for one. You'll get a lot of calls asking a retail price. Then you'll get that magic call with someone who got a price from the dealer on a trade in, and is asking only a thousand dollars more than the trade in price. This way you have a captured audience. If you simply look at the used car ads there is a zillion people looking at the same ad. The super deal will be gone on day one.
Nice truck, might I add something else to get is rear fender liners. Less than $200 and easy to install.
That’s a great recommendation
FORD better if you need to you can install air bags on the rear to keep level , you may want to get a 300 or 500 gal diesel fuel tank on site
Sales tax example is true in your state, but not in all states. In California you pay sales tax on purchase price. Trade-in value does not reduce purchase (taxable ) amount.
Just another reason not to live in Commiefornia
Never heard of a courtesy trade. You are definitely a numbers guy!! Thanks.
Great truck decision!
Beautiful truck Adam. Chances are you will have it for about 5-8 years. it's a business purchase, you wont keep it forever. Just another tool that serves a purpose.
Tint the front windows to 30% and get the brow tint worth it!
IMO don’t go darker than 30% because it gets tough to see at night.
Looks like a really clean truck, enjoy.
You need to install a HPFP filter kit to protect that 6.7L fuel system. Spend the money now will save you thousands down the road. Other than that the 6.7 should be good.
Just have a plan for your cp4 valve.. like the disaster prevention kit.. and fuel additives from day one and you’ll be good
Great truck, ford just announced a recall for your new truck for the rear camera… literally read the article 4 minutes ago.. 😂
Adam, congratulations on getting a truck for your needs for the future of hometown acres 👍😮😊❤
I have only owned diesels in the last 25 years or more. 6.9/7.3/6.7 and L10 cummins in big truck. Buy good fuel and change filters every 10k. The Cp4 is the weakest point on the 6.7. They are just prone to failing with water in fuel etc. Other than that these 6.7 are solid ! You will enjoy it.
Great looking truck. It will be fun to see how you utilize it.
Nice truck. I've already seen nay sayers about your choice, just ignore them I can find fault with every brand out there none of them are without problems of some sort..Onlypiece of advice I would give you is try to idle as little as possible, that creates most of your problems with the emissions issues on newer diesel trucks. I drove truck 43 years and the newer trucks with all that added garbage on them can be problematic. I'm not an expert by any means but I have a lot of experience with diesel trucks. Again nice choice hope you like the difference in towing experience, it's a whole different world
Nice truck! I haven't been much of a Ford guy, I even haul Ford automotive parts. But anymore they all have their own good and bad things. If you keep it a long time and have any emission problems you could always delete it. Good information on the tax info. Thanks!
Nice truck! Been a Ford guy most of my life and marrying into a GM family l didn't get any crap from in-laws but a few years ago l made the switch to a GMC Denali 2500. I still like Ford trucks.
Nice deal and awesome upgrade.
I’d recommend running blue label Stanadyne. Keeps a little more oil in your fuel for your pump.
Beautiful truck congrats
lovely truck good luck with it
Big upgrade from your F150! Looks like a nice gooseneck trailer is in your near future 😃
Still get to take off sales tax sell amount on private sales as well...at least in Missouri you can. Might check to be sure you can't
That’s awesome truck. Congratulations!
Need a set of Husky Liner floor mats for the new to you Ford. :)
Congrats. Nice truck. I needed more payload to accommodate my towing setup and have been with the F350 but they are nearly identical otherwise. I love the diesel and have had 3 of the 6.7s and they all treated me well. And yes...the aluminum is a step up for sure. I was curious how they'd hold up and they are holding up very well.
I agree...the 22 (my current truck) looks better than most of the 23 +. Trying to get the new ones to grow on me....maybe someday.
Nice truck flash !! Let’s see your review of what all terrain tires you will put on it … I have had cooper at3’s but looking for another option
Check out Nitto Ridge Grappler tires .my first time with them on my F350. Aggressive tread but the nice thing is extremely quiet on the road. Only downside is is not cheap. 👍
I watched a video and they said Ford had the most recalls out of all the vehicles on the road, I was a little shocked by that.
Had 4 recalls on 2020 F250 along with a weird electrical issue, 4 wheel drive engagement seals failed warped rotors at 10k miles. All fix under warranty but makes one question quality. This was a pre pandemic truck also, hope all bugs worked out. No desire to buy another truck at this time.
Congratulations on the new truck. But I save money by not buying any new vehicles!
I had a 2004 Toyota Tacoma that I lost due to flooding during Hurricane Helene in Florida. I was dumbfounded (in a good way) when my insurance company (Progressive) gave me $16,000 for it. Not bad for a 20 year old truck.😁 Maybe in the future it would be better to put a claim in through the insurance company for a total loss than deal with a car dealer. 🤗
Nice truck Adam!
Congrats! Nice truck 🤠👍
You might want to double check CDL requirements. I am led to believe that any weight combination where the trailer is 10,000 lbs GVW or higher you need a CDL license.
I've only sold 3 vehicles on my own, never done a courtesy trade or whatnot. But..I know a lot of people always want you to say they paid less money than they actually did for the vehicle so that they can pay less in taxes. Can't do that at a dealership, so I imagine a lot of buyers wouldn't be happy that you're wanting to do it at a dealership.
KBB got bought by a group that has dealers in mind, they are no longer the same company.
Also, will echo what others have aaid, check with your DMV on sales tax credit when you sell private party. Missouri give you 6 months to submit for this.
Make sure you keep up with changing ccv or delete the ccv. Either is fine. Make sure you change your fuel filters regularly every 10k-15k miles. Look into putting a disaster kit on it. Finally once it’s out of warranty delete it if you plan on keeping it for a long time.
Need to update the CP4 pump as well...get rid of it! Flying wrenches has a bunch of videos on the delete and as he says 2-3000 now saves you 15000 in the long run.
Nice truck Adam
So that’s the truck Anderson will drive.
Likely
Take a look at the Toyo Open Country RT Trail tires, awesome tires!
Enjoyed Commentary
maybe fluid film or woolwax the frame?
Should of gotten the F350 to avoid the future one you will move into in a 3-5 year time frame. When you go into the one ton in a few years get the dual rear wheels the springs are heavier on the dual f350 vs the single rear wheel f350 which is lighter. I bought my f350 in 2006 with the 6.0L diesel and it now has over 600,000 miles on it and I haven’t touched the engine except for some EGR work. with me doing nothing to it but regular Maintence…. Also the main thing that I learned to do was to ONLY run the straight tread highway tires with as high a ply count that you can buy…… DO NOT EVER BUY CHEAP TIRES PERIOD!!! You will regret it!! Ask me how I know….. you WILL/BETTER install a cable winch on the front of the truck attached to the frame…. ( NOT NYLON ROPE )You may not use it but 5-6 times ever……. But the first time that you do it will pay for it…. Again ask me how I know…. As far a the difference in what the f250 feels like pulling a max loaded frailer vs. the F350……. The difference in what it feels like is staggering…. Enjoy your new ride!
6.75' over a true 8' box? Adam, it's like I don't even know you anymore... Kidding. Nice truck.
Adam, 2 things 1). Go get the CDL. 2) Time for a bulk diesel tank
I would have gotten a F350. It tows so much better. Plus it would tow a gooseneck trailer.
You do have to worry about corrosion, and I work on aluminum jets every day. Corrosion is a real thing.
Difference alloys….aerospace alloys are higher strength, but those alloys have poor corrosion resistance. The F-150 uses 5000 and 6000 series alloys, medium strength with better corrosion resistance.
