And with Scoop Up Net banned, there's no reason Shaymin-EX should still be banned. The card is strong but only became broken when you didn't need to use a coin flip to pick it up off the bench.
@@jacobrcorreia not really, cuz unlike crobat V you can use unlimited Shaymin EX abilities in a turn, so I would still argue that the card is imbalanced
@@huiningwu4160 With 4 Acro Bikes, Trekking Shoes, Quick Ball, Ultra Ball, Battle Compressor, and 1 Dedenne GX and Crobat V, you can easily deck thin and go thru your whole deck in a single turn. Shaymin-EX doesn't significantly change that.
Jesse and James was broken with Weezing from Hidden Fates - 29/68, which if you discarded with Jesse and James it made your opponent discard an extra 1 card (up to 4 basically). It was definitely not banned immediately, I remember playing with it along with Chip chip axe in standard.
This is probably very yugioh pilled but I’d love to see them take another crack at the Unown abilities, especially with the current power level of the game. I totally wouldn’t mind a small influx of alt win cons if done responsibly. And yes, Dusknoir was a mistake
Puzzle of time is actually a really stupid way of potentially creating an infinite game state also. If you already have two in discard, you can play two from hand to grab the other two, and time stall all the way until turns. Assuming you won game one in a three game set of course
For Expanded I feel Post-Rotation that the following could happen there: *Up for Ban after Rotation* : Regidrago Vstar, Archeops(STEM), TM: Evolution(Basically another Reset Stamp situation where it's legal in Standard but banned in Expanded) *At Risk for Ban after Rotation* : Electrode GX, Dusk Stone, Bunnelby(Barrage) *Up for Errata in near future* : Exeggcute(PFRZ)
Wow, didn't know there were official bans for Pokemon TCG, as a big VGC player, i know some broken shit on that side and..never got banned. But seeing how Dusclops/noir is so fcking toxic, i'm hopeful one day they'll remove it, such a ridicoulous card to exist, especially when it's in a zard deck.
Because back then there were only pokemon-EX and when gx came around they used ”excluding pokemon-EX or pokemon-GX” eventually when EX wasnt in rotation that it would be problematic to only refer to pokemon-GX, and that is probably after super scoop up the introduced the rule box mechanic
Some clarifications on these: Saying this now so I don't repeat it a bunch, the Supporter rule changed with the release of Sword and Shield. Before then, you were allowed to play a Supporter card going first. For many of the Supporters on the list that are banned that seem like they wouldn't be a problem today, think about them as if you were allowed to play them before your opponent took a turn. Archeops and Maxie's are both banned because they just have too many other interactions. Maxie's isn't the only way to quickly get out Archeops (see: Wally, Plume Fossil, TM Evo), and Archeops isn't the only really powerful target for Maxie's as you mention. This is why Maxie's is banned in expanded and Archie's Ace in the Hole (arguably a better card since Water in general is a stronger type) is still legal, because none of the water cards you can cheat out lock your opponent from playing the game the way these fossil pokemon do. Pokemon leans away from lock strategies, which is why the arguably worse Maxie's is banned while Archie's is legal. Forest of Giant Plants wasn't banned because of Vileplume/item lock (with the proof being that it wasn't banned in standard ever where this combo was legal). It was banned because of Giant Fan Shiftry from B&W Next Destinies. Forest allows you to evolve into Shiftry immediately on the first turn going first, then return it back to your hand with Scoop Up Net or any other similar cards (AZ, Scoop Up Cyclone, etc.) and blow away your opponent's entire field on the first turn going first. This combo is still legal in Unlimited and is one of the most powerful decks in the most broken format the game has. The original Slowking was banned because it was a mistranslation. In Japan, Slowking only worked in the active spot (as it was intended), but when they translated the card, for some reason they left out the "if this is your active Pokemon" clause. It saw very little play in Japan because it wasn't good, and this error made it arguably the strongest Pokemon ever printed in English.
Western players complain too much about some part of the game every set release. No wonder why expanded isn’t coming back here because players will complain about the smallest things with even standard format combos why would they even try with expanded if some players can’t even handle standard cards. Some cards are just meant to be good in their respective eras and that’s ok. You don’t want the game to be exactly the same each generation because it gets stale. Many newer players wouldn’t last a day in dp or rspk. They complained about everything and even some mediocre cards like moonlit hill before they even came out.
i think a lot of players here are more likely to blame their shortcomings on the game rather than on their own skills. also, many western players have a larger voice in the community
Well duh, people are going to speculate. And most will be wrong of course. But that doesnt make their feelings any less valuable. The casual playerbase is a part of the playerbase, and most of them dont want to instantly lose to a turn 1 hand loop combo every other game. Sure there is counterplay, but demanding that from every deck constrains the available cardpool and creates a tier 0 meta. People quit games becasue of stuffy metas, and losing that sizable audiance hurts the community. Im coming from Yu gi oh btw. People love the open ended insanity that an expanded format comes with, they just approciate a good banlist to make sure it stays fun. Ptcgl doesnt want to impliment Expanded becasue its probably something low on the priority list, not because people arent interested.
wasnt forest of giant plants banned mainly cuz of shiftry being able to win by your opponent having no benched pokemon? since it essentially doesn't let your opponent play the game at all
U use red card on an opponent with 10 cards, they go down to 3 or 4 whatever it was. U use peaking red card on an opponent with 10 cards, they remain with 10. Red card is a 1 sided marnie on an item
My god... some people in this comment section behave like it is a skill issue to lose to a combo which doesn't let you play the game... 😂 Yeah, ofc. Let's not complain about a combo which takes away your entire hand... 😂
Recently started playing TCGL. Use to play the TCGO in 2014 and in 2016. Missed a lot of stuffs in between these years. So visiting this clip here giving me the glimpse of how things were in past. Its kinda interesting ngl
lol I love how so many of the cards on this list one just thinks to themselves "this is so stupid, why was this ever even considered". But ya van dusknoir, it's just too controlling of the play of the game, it's just not fun and can just be OP in like any deck
I played when the game came out. We didnt care about Aerodactyl that shit off evolutions, Dark Vileplume shutting trainer cards off, or turn 2 Rain Dance. We played. Last 10yrs are some of the softest players. Ban lists shouldnt exist but yet this game is littered with GX/EX/Star bullcrap. This game is not healthy and hasnt for some time.
It's a shame that PTCG Live only implemented cards from the Sun/Moon series onward. So many cool strategies in Expanded like Bunnelby mill are gone 😭
And with Scoop Up Net banned, there's no reason Shaymin-EX should still be banned. The card is strong but only became broken when you didn't need to use a coin flip to pick it up off the bench.
This is why I started playing the eternal format 🙂

Once they incorporate full expanded id like them to keep the option for a limited Expanded. It’s nice having a format limiting broken strategies.

I'm suprised I've been around during all of these bans. So many broken cards were printed during the XY and Sun/Moon era.
Design in XY was crazy
That Lt.Surge card is crazy bruh would be going triple plat in this format with dusclops 😭

If you get all five pieces of Slowpoke , you win
I love videos like this where you talk about the XY/Sumo cards because I didn’t play the TCG back then. Keep the videos coming brother 🫡

I move to ban raging bolt just because
haha its easily countered though
People who only have raging bolt built in shambles
Should be banned because it’s so bad lol
Bro just play better decks
@Aimnoos I only meant this comment as a joke lol. I have no beef with the long necked friend
man this was a trip down memory lane. Haven't played much since the pandemic but god this video got me wanting to revisit expanded
YO LDF you should make your top 5 pokemon matches of all time.
If you played 4 puzzle of time in your deck, were you able to use 2 puzzle to get 2 puzzles back and loop an infinite turn?
You can
@huiningwu4160 bruh
nah that'd be slowplaying pretty sure
A bunch of these were banned because of combos tho. LT Surge for example, was mid until people realised Lusamine could self loop (Loopsamine)
Imagine a Lt. Surge Strategy into Xerosic + Delinquent in Control 😢
Forest Of Giant Plants in current baby Torterra would be insane.
When I was younger, I thought Lysandres Trump card was banned because the name (having Trump --> political)
Me and my homies love expanded format
10:18 I want this to come back, maybe with a discard cost or other penalty. Because I want to be able to evolve straight to Palafin ex.
Also I'd love to see you posting expanded deck profiles for pokemon tcg live

Scoop up also got banned because of iron valiant damage counter donks
Ldf do you think the new Budew is ban worthy?

I wish Ghetsis would be unbanned, it was so much fun in item lock decks.
You can't ban Dusk Stone! I NEED that for my Honchkrow deck!
I still have my full art Ghetsis
i played PTCGO and lysandres trump was so fair in my opinion, the meta at the time in 2016 was fine with it lol. The only decks hurt were mill decks
Same with shaymin, like these were staples and getting rid of them seems so unfair
Lysandre can make games go on forever you can’t really allow it lol
Have they banned cards from standard?

19:23 why not ban Magneton too then?
Lighting pokemon only
Hex maniac mentioned 🙌
