Great tips - a really thorough “string of” care video!!!
I have a string of dolphins hanging in an east facing window.
It gets light but not direct light.
It has grown quite long (in 2 years it’s grown about 2 feet) but all of the new growth is a flattened version of the dolphin - the leaves no longer look dolphin-like.
    Any thoughts on why?

So if all the growth is flattened that’s usually a sign it’s not actually getting enough light, and in order to compensate for that they will unfold their leaves to be flatter so that there’s more surface area to absorb what light they’re getting. It sounds like flattening it’s leaves is working for it though since it’s still healthy and happy in your east window! But if you want it to not be flat I’d try moving it to a brighter spot like 1-2 feet away from a southern window. It might take awhile for it to adjust and go back to producing non-flat leaves though. Or you can just leave it in your East facing window and just call it your String of Stingrays instead of String of Dolphins now🙃.

Random but I love that your monstera has so many unfenestrated leaves. Mine hasn't fenestrated yet and I think it's so pretty! Ok back to the video.

Yeah, that soil layering technique is how I have more spider plants than I can deal with. All from 1 pudchase 20 years ago. Thanks for the tips

I ran into town yesterday and, on the way home, decided to stop in at the local nursery. I've been wanting a Hoya Curtissi, and just had a feeling. :) Well, the first plant I see when I walk in is a String of Dolphins. It was simply adorable, but I walked away because I know nothing about succulents. While I was perusing the other plants, I found a Hoya Curtissi.......and then it hit me!!! Drea has a String of Dolphins! I bought both of them. Somehow I missed this video, but I am figuring out how RUclips videos work and found this today. Awesome video! Thank you so much for doing what you do and doing it so well! My brand new Hoya Curtissi and String of Dolphins are bound for a happy life because I know how to take care of them thanks to you!
PS: I learned more about both of them from watching your videos than I learned from doing research for several hours last night and this morning. Thank you for that, too! ❤ The only thing left to figure out as far as the house plants I currently own is how in the heck to fertilize them! 🤨

I have balded 2 string of bananas plants. The top turned brown. I had it under the lanai with east sun. Hope now to give it full sun light and see if I can keep my 3rd string of banana plant.

I screwed up with my String of Dolphins. 😢 I failed to keep up on her watering and when I went to check her, there were a lot of leaves that were dried out, brown, and crispy. I am so upset with myself! At least the entire plant wasn't dead.

So with my string of bananas I am pretty sure the grocery store where I bought it overwatered., the soil was real damp. I took it home and has been in a good lighting I can actually see growth. But the issue is the center I can see is rotting most likely from overwatering. I am nOT touching it with water however unfortunately the center is rotting. I will see how it goes

Thank u so much for this video and the “keep calm” speech. New plant mom and in love with strings! Have tears, dolphin, pearls, bananas, turtles, hearts, silver hearts…went all in! Have some balding in my bananas…sitting just east of my south facing window at sill height, 6 inches back. Trying to figure out if too much in the shadows or not enough light🙈! Moved into the sill n will hope for the best. Letting in dry between watering, in terra cotta pot. Any thoughts?

Before I answer this, I’m assuming you are in the northern hemisphere? And if so, whereabouts? Just want to make sure I have a clear understanding of your lighting situation.

I wonder if that's a Texas thing to call it string of plant, I've always heard string of things

The pearls and string of turtles are on my list and I only have north 😭 I supplement everyone else with bright LEDs. I wonder if these guys would accept my LEDs 🤔
My working theory with other plants is that if I buy babies they tend to acclimate really well to my lower light in comparison to buying a big established plant. But, with succulents I am not so sure as they generally take ten billion years to grow, so is a "baby" really actually young enough for my theory? 🤔

    • @AlohaPlantLife
      @AlohaPlantLife  2 года назад +1

You could always try it with a grow light and see! My baby ones have acclimated better and more quickly to my house than the more mature one.

@@AlohaPlantLife maybe if I build them a little pedestal or ultra tall cake stand so they're closer to the lights would help or figure out a wall mount that is right close to a light... Plant parenting can be hard! 😳
