Texas Artists Honor Uvalde Victims With Murals

- This summer Kelly traveled to her home state of Texas to witness firsthand how the Uvalde community has come together to heal and rebuild in the wake of the tragic school shooting. Kelly meets professor Abel Ortiz, who organized the creation of 21 murals honoring the students and teachers who lost their lives, hoping to provide a positive path to redefine their community. Muralist Juan Velasquez joins the show and shares why he chose to be a part of the project, and what he hopes the community gains from the murals. Kelly also speaks with H-E-B Public Affairs Manager Julie Bedingfield and architect Joshua Brown who are working on plans to build a new school for the community. When I saw the news on my cell, I told my mom what happened and we turned on the news. As I sat there, my mom fell to her knees screaming at the TV "OMG not again those children" Crying too! Never will forget that day and NEVER FORGET those children :(
Kelly made a similar statement in 2017 when she was asked to do a moment of silence at an award show. WHY 5 years later still with the same problems and the same plea... Ugh crying right there with you Kelly 💖
This mural project is such a beautiful way to honor the children and families.

@@Nolanoyayo I agreed until my brother(a veteran) and retired deputy sheriff told me it's (the person) behind the gun. Yes, we DO NOT need AK assault rifles. I have always thought that was the dumbest and stupidest law passed for citizens. Where it shoukd be military or law officers only. I can lay out a dummy target easily with just a Glock, simple little 9 millimeter. I PRAY All semi-automatics are banned permanently in the US.

I'm not a mother but I am sobbing too! I hate to see such pain and fear of sending kids to school. This isn't a political issue this is a safety issue, a sense of peace issue.

Thank you so much, Kelly. I got so emotional from the beginning to the end of the video. I can't imagine the trauma of the news to the families when it happened. I could connect with Kelly Clarkson's tear especially when I lost my nephew early this year.

I went to pay my respects and to Pray..for l don't know their pain but l know that I HAD to be there. No parent SHOULD ever have to experience the loss of a child..in such a horrific way. I live live about an hour away from Uvalde. I also have 7th grader who has had anxiety about going back to school. She won’t even go to the bathroom afraid that “what if” a shooter comes in and I won’t know what to do. How we do you convince her that it will be ok. It’s a struggle.
I just cried through this entire episode. I love Kelly and how she uses her platform.

This is so heartbreaking, yet inspiring. It really literally hits close to home, as I was born and raised 52 miles from Uvalde. I see myself in those young kids. The tragedy and horror and all they must’ve felt that day. But it brings me peace to know they are Home with our Eternal Father. I am so sorry for all their families. My heart goes out to them. ❤️
Sobbed through this whole thing. Thank you for sharing. I still haven't let me kids watch the coverage, they have enough to deal with already. They just know to be prepared based on the drills they are having at school. Just sucks to even think we have to prepare for the unknown.

Thank you Kelly for the donation for my home town and our community we lost two Cuzin’s Xavier Lopez and Jayce Luevano broke my hearts when I found out of my cuzins passing was really close to my Cuzin Xavier just wish I knew my Cuzin Jayce more, my Cuzin Xavier had a girlfriend Annabell who also passed away they were in the same class together before this happened she called him that night and told him that she ♥️ him before the funeral my Cuzin asked the mother of Annabell if it was alright if they could be barred right next to each other and that’s what they did they even had their casket made by adding pictures of the kids and what they loved doing like my cuzin Xavier had TikTok on it he ♥️ doing TikTok videos with his mom and himself dancing he was such loving and caring little boy he just barely turned 10 in March once again Thank You Kelly for doing this

What’s hard, is that if I didn’t know who these kids were…it’d mean they’d be alive and living their lives. I’m honored to know their names and their lives. They lived such short lives but have made such a profound difference just in us learning about each of them and their individual beauties.
This is beyond heartbreaking like Kelly said kids should be safe at school may each of these beautiful innocent kids forever rest in perfect with the guardian angels up above sending my thoughts love and prayers to all those affected

It touched me to the core to see this yesterday. I'm a single Mom with 2 kids that have Autism/Adhd my fear is this same thing. Saying goodbye to them every morning knowing that this is happening to our children in America. So many want to love land of the free, home of the brave. The bravery it took some of these kids to probably just stay safe and alive is what my thoughts regard right now. You are really special Kelly. 💕I'm a singer like you, born on the same day I remember this day like it was yesterday. My family was home sick with covid and I cried for days mourning their losses just watching through my t.v. I stand up to bullying for my kiddos. I advocate for more blended classrooms for them, and their peers. I'm sorry this happened to your families Uvalde. All the way from Rockford, Illinois. We mourn for your children too

It’s been a year since this video released, and I’ve just been to a presentation from that man, who brought so many artists together to complete this project. More work is being done on it- The wall of names is now completed, each portrait is fitted with a light so they are visible at night, more of the first girl’s artwork is being painted along the sides of the building, and a mural for survivors is in the works. They call the mural of names the Kelly Clarkson mural because of her donation, and she was thanked during the presentation as well. There’s a long way to go, both for this project and to put a stop to school shootings, but progress is under way.

Thank you Kelly Clarkson for all your support and care for the Uvalde Community. I was there on June 4th. I am still hurting from this horrible tragedy, but I am thankful to God for allowing me, my beautiful friend, and her husband, for driving us to Uvalde to pay our respects while I visited them in San Antonio, Texas, from Phoenix, AZ. We will continue to help out with the building of their new school. No child should ever have to return to a building where tragedy occurred. They all deserve to have a brand new school, where they can continue to learn and grow. Where these horrific memories are left in the past. Where they can start fresh and continue living a happy and healthy life. =)
Thank you Kelly for using your platform and having the courage to bring forth the issues that matter and the things in this country that need to change. I cannot watch this without completely breaking down everytime. No child, in the world, EVER, should live with fear. Like you said, how many schools are going to have to be hit before real change happens? I pray true change happens before it is too late, before we lose any more young lives.🙏

Any child should never be taken away from this world. These children were put on this earth for the betterment of our messed up world, to make the lives of the people they touched, light up, I am so many miles away from where this happened but I am extremely sad and have this feeling of loss, like there were part of my family.
