Loved seeing "Johnny Dyno Engines" on the back of the Falcon, I have used John's services for 40+ years. I miss not being able to just drop in, as I have moved 450kms away. Hi Gail and John, and Norm if ya watching. From Terry H. Love you guys.
Yes it does look like an XC . I'm pretty sure the body stayed the same XA AB XC only the front end and tail lights changed? So it could be any one of them? I had an XB four door and an XA coupe. The coupe's on the road were terrible as you couldn't see out of them to park.
For it's size and weight, it's amazing how well the hardtop holds the road in the corners. I wonder how they'd go if the drivers swapped cars? If I had to choose between these two, it'd be the hardtop.
what is it with prople thinking these were either big or heavy? there is only about 50 kgs between these 2 cars for starters, secondly XBs were not that big at all, definitely wider than an early Commodore but not by much, and lengthwise there is almost nothing in it..
Thanks Duppa! We agree, but that's why we love categories like VicV8s where this is from, because these guys still race these cars hard and we can all relate to them! 2022 is shaping up to be a big year, we'll have some live racing from them with the Vic State Race series here for all to see! Hope you can tune in.
The XB Falcon coupe is easily the meanest, most badass-looking Aussie car of all time. But having said that, the dream car of every Aussie kid in the 70s was definitely the XC Falcon Cobra.
I'm probably more a Holden guy than Ford, but is there a tougher looking car than a 2 door Falcon or a nicer noise than a screaming cleveland..............................
@@Philthy82 there’s a Vauxhall equivalent in Europe which the Commodore was based on. They look pretty much the same but the Euro car never had a V8 engine in it.
Back then Opel, Vauxhall and Holden was very much the same cars. Except for the placement of the steering wheel, and engines. Europe had smaller engines, probably because there were so many more cars. Which brings the question to mind, why does it need a V8 when a straight 4 can be tune to more horses from smaller displacement?
True about the sound.. but if it comes at half the mileage price, it's not worth it. Unless you're making big money.. In the end it just empties the oil reserves at a higher pace, compared to the small economic plastic buckets

@@mortenfrosthansen84 Low revs ensure it doesn't use much fuel. The Dodge Viper and Chevrolet Corvette showed that at Le Mans. Small and light engine, High displacement, and Low revs is the American way. Too bad the ACO put displacement restrictions, so now the Corvette has to resort to a 5.5 liter DOHC that revs to 7000 rpm instead of a smaller 7 liter pushrod that revs to 5700 rpm. It would be heresy to give a 5.5 liter to a Viper, but the car's dead anyway so it doesn't compete at LeMans anymore. Even with balance of performance being enforced in the GT class, the ACO still wants to nerf pushrod engines. Damn them.
As much as I love the big Ford coupe. What everyone is forgetting is the Falcon is heavier and has very average factory suspension compared with the Dunnydoor.
How good is this battle between two iconic cars of Australian Motorsport.
Which would want in your track day collection?
VH to drive, XB in the living room for looking at :P
The XB just for the fun of it 😊
All V8's are great but in this instance I'll go for the XB 👌
Simple, no need to state the obvious except to say 'market value'.
@@techo61 That's why the XB is for looking at in the lounge lol.
That's cool, a 70's Ford and 80's Holden. Nice curves and a box.
And a Ford in second place like it should be
Sounds like a girl I know.

I see what you did there.😎

@@AS-bx1mg the Holden arrived about 10 years later...
Truly old school race cars. I would love to drive both of these beasts
It's so cool to see these guys get them out on track! We're with you that we wouldn't say no to a drive in either.
The look of the Ford, the drivability of the Holden.
Good choices!
Impressed that after being passed the Falcon could stay in touch
It's defensive line slows it down but left to it's own line, not bad.
IMO the Falcon Hardtop was the best looking Australian car ever.
Amazing how wide and low compared to the Commodore.
Funny to think they became pretty much the same shape

Top show brilliant thank you very much
Was there anything more brutal looking than the Falcon coupes? I think not.
Agreed 👍
Totally agree. The HG Coupe came close for curvaceousness, but lacked the sheer imposing massivity of the Falcons. The E49, same.
Pity no in-car footage from the Ford as well. Winton definitely a tough track to muscle a big coupe around.
Unfortunately not from this race no. But we do have footage of it at Phillip Island and some other events across our Facebook and RUclips channels!
True, Winton is tight.
The old XC really was a big beast

Great video 👍
I'd actually still be interested in V8 supercars if they still drove real cars like this. I don't see the point of it anymore.
Couldn't agree more mate.👍

Love the big Henry, what a car! Every time I think about how I sold mine back in the day, I give myself half a dozen upper cuts.
Oh, we can imagine. Just don't open the trading websites now!
Xb coupe best looking car produced in oz had one in the 80s wish I still had it now
Its always good when you see the dord behind the Holden lol
I thought the Dunnydore might run away but the Ford wasn't giving up
Like comparing a car to a tank , compact tiny vh against a big fat xb , fords 10 years elder and 100 times better to look at
I think they had similar power, it’s the more modern Commodore chassis that allowed for a faster mid corner speed I’d say.
Aussie icons , I like em both 👍
Great stuff😎
That Hardtop looks a lot like what Greg McShane used to throw around. He was a great commentator, driver and just a great bloke. RIP Greg.
2:39 Holdeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen!
Give me the falcon coup any day 🤙
We're not sure we could bring ourselves to get it out on track though! Huge credit to the team for bringing this one out.
That Xb coupe looks amazing wide as nice lines and curves Australian history that should have never ended
A70s falcon and 80s Holden.
Some of the best times in Australian car manufacturing. We're so stoked to see these cars still on track.
Better than today’s touring cars,
They need to do a modern take on these cars again just like the hellcat and mustang gt500.

Let's just have 90% of the Aussie cars built in the 70s/80s put into our garages!
A9x hatchback for me as a kid, although I’d happily own the hardtop today, no matter which model
XB coupe😍😍😍

whats the american version of the that commodor?
There's no real comparison as the Commodore was a 4 door, but maybe the Cutlass and cars like that.
Just guessing 😊
No such thing mate, Holden made from '84 to '86 in Australia only. (At least to my knowledge)

The simplest answer I can offer, is that NOTHING sound like a V8!! :-)
A V8 is cheaper and understressed. Since it's a pushrod, it's about the same size as an inline 4.

Typical. The Ford is fantastic and fast in a straight line. Holden's are better at going slow so the commodore wins under brakes.
The beauty of the Falcon versus the ugliness of a crappadore.....
Holden's way to beat Ford.... build really small cars and put v8s in them.... what a shit company.... go Ford.
