  • Hi! I'm Candice and I learned how to metalsmith at home with the help of the internet! In this video I show you how I personally use 14k yellow gold-filled to make rings. Other people probably do a much better job than me!
Gold-fill is a tricky material to metalsmith with because only 5% of it is gold alloy so you have to be careful not to accidentally remove the gold! However, it is much more durable and valuable than gold-plated jewelry which is only 0.05% gold!
Although I find it tricky to work with, gold-fill is such a beautiful material and is very affordable compared to solid gold!

Great video! You did an amazing job explaining the material as well as adding additional information such as tips that will make other’s attempts so much easier! Providing extra information and details in your video is refreshing and thoughtful. Many people, when making videos are not so … detail oriented, I suppose you could say. Please don’t get me wrong, there are many wonderful artists with awesome videos who will walk you through a project from start to finish! I am just saying that you went above and beyond, and exceeded all expectations in sharing and instruction in this video! WAY TO GO!

Thank you for this video. I am a wire wrapper and am seeking ways to learn how to metal smith/solder. Do you have a beginners guide video for what tools and necessary advice to start? Maybe something that talks about budgets and how much everything will cost? Thank you!

Hi! Thank you for this video. It’s so easy to follow and your work is beautiful! What hardness is your sheet of silver for the back plate?

Super helpful and really appreciate all the tips! Would love to see more❤︎
Question: Doesn’t cutting the bezel with cuticle scissors remove the gold and expose the inside?
    Thank you : )

Hey! Why do you use a separate jar in your pickle for gold-filled?

😅 great question! I’m not sure if it’s true but I think keeping it separate helps silver jewelry pickle better? Sometimes if I mix different metals in my pickle I notice some pink spots on my silver jewelry.

Following. What tumbler do you use?

I use a National Geographic rock tumbler with stainless steel shot. It’s made for kids but has worked wonderfully as a jewelry tumbler for more than 5 years!
