Good on you! I understand that you are working around your tremors doing small work. Making pretty jewelry is so satisfying. Kyanite is also one of my favorites. The older I get the more challenges I have with my fingers doing small work, but I think it helps continuing on. Frustrations are normal, but for me silversmithing is something I don’t want to give up. Thank you for sharing your videos.
And thank you, dear Marcia, I appreciate your comment ❤️. Yes, you are right, my tremors are sometimes too much to handle, but it doesn't stop me from making jewelry. It's even more satisfying once I'm done with the piece because I know how much struggle went into it and was still able to craft something pretty. ☺️😊
@@crystalpaperscissors I love the way you put that feeling with a finished piece. There is so much stress in the world, and even though art can have its moments where you want to swear when things don’t go the way you wish there is such sense of adventure to it all. Pretty is the outcome but it’s the time in between when it’s not in it’s ‘pretty’ form and you see it through that gives pretty it’s meaning Thank you again for sharing
I've had those ring bending pliers for years and never even thought of using them that way! That's brilliant! Thank you so much for this wonderful and informative video. 🤗
I know, right? Haha me too 😀 when I figured it out I felt so stupid not using them that way before. You are very welcome, I appreciate your comment 🤗❤️
I use thermal lock, and if you put it in hot boiling water just the amount that you need, it will come to a very soft form, use some tongs to remove from the hot water dried off with the towel or paper towels. I just found your channel so I don’t know what tools you have. Anyway right now you’re making pendants so placing it on a piece of wood will work just as good for setting a pendant. I’m also a self taught metalsmith, and I’ve also taken a lot of courses online. I teach online too. And at a school in Texas USA. I work with beginners and a lot of people just don’t have the money to start off with so I tried to help my students find items at home so they can save money. If my students do not have money for thermal lock. Them to use glue gun and you can melt your glue gun down and it works well for setting pendants too. To remove the pendant I have a heat gun that I bought on Amazon Amazon for $10. And the heat gun gets hot enough to wear. You can remove your pendant from either thermal or using glue gun material. Anyway, I’m enjoying your videos. Keep up the great work. Hugs, Michelle
Oh my god the glue gun! I never thought about it, that is so clever ❤️, i used to do all sorts of stuff to try to set the stone, when i was still beginner, but never thought of using the glue gun, brilliant! Now I use thermo lock too. Can you link me some of your work and what you do, I would love to check you out. Thank you for all the love 🤗🥰
Very generous of you to help by sharing knowledge. Gesture of noble people. I used glue gun for a few years, and it is an excellent solution for those on a low budget. Here in Brazil it is very difficult to find supplies, if we cannot import them, we have to improvise.
Thermo-Loc, made by Knew Concepts is great - and expensive. Amazon sells "Polly Plastics" pellets for MUCH less, and it does the exact same job. It's totally reusable.
I'm glad that I found your channel. Could you tell, what are those weights you use to hold in place that plate, when you set the stone? I've never seen that, and I don't have a lot of money to spend on special jewellers vise. I ussualy use a small round vice, but it never holds position and I like your way better
Hey thanx for stopping by 😊. I totally get the frustration on expensive jewelers tools, same here 🤚🙂. I'm using woodworking clamp or something like that if you can see links here: images.app.goo.gl/zYarDP4n8ixANUxW6 I'm just using very old one that's why it looks so "glamorous" 😁. But i find it works really well if you put like 2 pieces of double sided tape under the plate for lighter hammer work, but it handles a lot from my experience 😉. Hope this helps ❤️
Hi! I find that sanding well and comprehensively - (at least 10 strokes) up to 600 is enough. Tripoli is a cutting compound. Tripoli also needs to be used well and comprehensively (I put some muscle into it) and pre-polish for more than just a second or two. I find that the compound needs to be able to do its job. I am wondering, how do you get the bezel to go over the stone where the jump ring is soldered up at the top? I like using gallery wire for bezel, I roll mine through a mill after annealing it. It's such a cool texture. Thanks for sharing your process!
Hi! Thanks so much for your detailed insights and tips. I agree-sanding and proper use of Tripoli are so important to achieve that smooth finish! As for the bezel near the jump ring, it can be tricky. I usually take my time with that area, pushing carefully with a bezel pusher and then gently tap the bezel pusher with a hammer to avoid any gaps, especially since it’s more rigid. This one was quite soft to work with though. It's not perfect but it did the job. Sounds like a fun way to add texture-rolling it through a mill is a great idea! Appreciate you sharing your process too.😊
Thank you so much!❤️ Yes, it’s a blue moss kyanite, my favourite 🤗-purchased through Etsy, though I don’t recall the exact seller. I usually shop at thetreasuredgem.com for stones, but their kyanite stock hasn’t been updated in a while. I also recently ordered from an Instagram seller, but I’m still waiting for those to arrive, so I can’t say if I’m satisfied yet. It’s clever to check different sources, though, since you get a wide variety of options and the prices can vary quite a bit. Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words! ❤️😊
Hello again, Vanessa, I think both your pendants turned out very pretty. You said that there was too much metal and you had to fold it over. Just to give you a little bit of advice if you find that the metal is going to fold over, you can lightly file on the top side of the bezel without hitting your gemstone to remove the extra metal so it will not fold over. I hope this makes sense. if you have a Instagram which I will check and see, I will send you a message. From my Instagram Instagram page. I have not started a RUclips channel. Because I have taken off one year for bereavement. I am a brand ambassador for a couple of big jewelry businesses in the United States. And I use their tools while I’m teaching and videoing my classes and showing all of my followers how to use their tools. I truly think your pendants turned out very beautiful. Hugs 🤗 Michelle
Lovely! Thanx for the advice ❤️, in this particular one I couldn't really file on top, because i wanted to keep the shine and shimmer from the gallery wire, but next time i will make sure to file more on the bottom where the plate is soldered on.. i feel i learn everytime something new, it's fun 😀.
@crystalpaperscissors I am thinking about your breathing. A respirator mask is good for the immediate spot you are sitting in when you solder/and pickle (pickle fumes are VERY toxic), but the fumes just rise/float around and can easily be breathed in when you remove your respirator mask. I hope you have an exhaust fan AND an open window. We want your lungs to be happy and healthy and pain-free!
@@flyingcheff Ah yes! Thank you so much for your concern! I’m definitely aware of the dangers, and I always prioritise safety as much as possible. I don’t have an exhaust fan yet, but I do make sure to open the door to the outside immediately after finishing soldering to get fresh air circulating. I also leave the door open for a while and often leave the room or I keep the mask on for a while. It's a very small space where I'm working so trust me, when I'm done with soldering it feels the air is toxic afterwards. I’m looking into getting an exhaust system in the future to make sure everything is even safer. I really appreciate your care about my lungs-it means a lot! ☺🙏♾✨

Try annealing before bending your silver and it will bend very easly
Very beautiful I love your tutorial thank you

Where are the soldering fumes when you take off your mask?
