very cool. Wish i could try some fresh like that. My parents just got back from Big Island Hawaii for their 40th Anniversary celebration, and, they gifted me macadamias! So delicious even roasted. But alas I do not buy them on the regular because they are sooooo expensive at groceries in Texas. Anyways, going around the internet today learning more about macadamias and such. I love all types of edible nuts and seeds usually all around!
Thanks for good video. They will rattle in their hard shell, like you say, but you can make it rattle if you put it in your hand and throw it down on any hard surface while still in your hand. Even with that, some people say it needs "drying". For that, a food dryer which can make a temperature of around 60C for 24 hours, which cannot be achieved with air drying.
Hi I got these fresh mac nuts and left it to dry in sun. I cracked the dried brown shell but the mac nut inside was not as hard as it should be - was bit soft. You know why is it?
They fall off the tree when ready then open on the ground, I am having trouble with the outer husk moulding up, looks like i have to dry them out better and remove the husk
The nut should be placed on a clean dish or kitchen towel when breaking it with a hammer to avoid any contamination like sand or dirt getting onto the nut
I wait until they show cracking but all the information I’ve found is they are one of the nuts to not eat completely raw doing a low temp dehydration doesn’t effect the nutritional value at all it’s only makes them so your stomach doesn’t get upset also there’s a time frame when the shell will come off easily I place mine in large cardboard box only covering the bottom seen others place them on screens they built with holder to stack screens so not touching this allows airflow from top and bottom
Thank you for this informative video! 😊

Fantastic! Thanks for sharing!
Wow this is fascinating seeing fresh macadamia nimuts. Growing up in Australia, we mainly see it already taken out of the shell ready to eat.
I’m glad you enjoy the video
Wow looks yummy 🤤
Thanks
Can you leave them on the tree to ripen or must you pick and dry them out?

Sme likes Vattey tree 🌲

Why do you not open them with a vise like normal people?
