Hi, great video. I am planning to buy sony. I am living krakow poland, could you please suggest where i can get sony a7 iii cheapest. Online or any store or any nearby country with good deal and genuine product. Additionally could you please also suggest if buying used product is a good idea not the body but lenses or other accessories. Where can i get the used reliable stuff?
Hi Hybrid shooter, PLEASE I'D HIGHLY APPRECIATE YOUR REPLY FOR THIS,,,, I'm in china at the moment and where I am, the Sony A7iii is sold with a language lock, meaning there''s no english option here in china, if I am to get the A7iiI I have to go through alot and spend quite alot too, should I go for the Z6? Think I'd personally go with the Nikon Z 6 or Z 7 as I am a Nikon user and therefore don't have to adapt to the different interface, however they're both pretty equal in capability.
I LOVED my A7RIII but i sold it. ERGONOMICS! When using it with large lenses, my hand cramped each time using it for a while. I love the IQ. Thats why i bought the Nikon Z7 with the new lenses. The ergonomics are way better.....
Banding is only visible when the image is -5/6EV so it really shouldn’t be a deal breaker. I would personally prefer the Z6 for the much better EVF and screen, and also the ergonomics.
I just became the owner of the Nikon Z6. I can't shoot with it yet as I'm waiting for the XQD card. There was a 400euros off at a local electronic store, so I jumped on that. But their XQD cards were a little pricy which I found on Amazon. I'm moving up from D5200, which I'll still keep because I have lenses for that.
I think Canon and Nikon will improve in the future. I am really interested to see what Panasonic will do with its full-frame lineup. There is no doubt that they make a fun to use and high quality camera such as the G9. Their sensor tech is as good as Sony's. We just need something like the G9 with full frame senor.
@@@TheHybridShooter I've heard the banding is only an issue with the electronic shutter on the Z6 and not the mechanical shutter. Have you tried both with high iso?

Excellent review. I just have a comment on the living room hi-iso test. 2:37 Its ok that the Nikon has more color splotches and the banding issue, but when talking about colors, the Nikon feels way more natural to me, sony looks a lot more artificial, monochrome and processed. On my case, i think i would stick to the splotchy but natural results of the Nikon. Back in the day i bought the Nikon D700 precisely because of this. It feels a bit like film sometimes, i cannot find this on any sony/canon cameras (maybe olympus¿?) Just personal perception :)
Thank you, according to the measurements, it is the exact opposite. Sony A7 III is the most color accurate full frame camera. Nikon uses much more processing to make the colors more appealing to general public, but it is less accurate. It isn't better of worse, just a matter of preference.
Can you please test in detail continuous AF performance of Z6? It would be interesting to know hit-rate in percentage. More over comparing to the A7III.
Banding at 3200 is just a big NO NO! Thought I could make it easy for myself and start out my FF mirrorless shift with the Z6 and the FTZ adapter, but apparently NO. Sony, here I come.
Technically speaking, the A7III is the clear winner. However I find its viewfinder and screen way too small and messy compared to the Z6. In a raw comparaison the A7III might win, but as the Z6 is more comfortable, it is more easy to take better pictures with it. That said, I only tested it at a store, and haven't brought them to real life...
What about the overall usability? I've tried a A7III today and found it a little bit too small, clumsy interface if you want to change parameters fast, bad placement of buttons, dials... On papers it's awesome, but somehow the experience of using it seems to fall a little short, doesn't it?
User interface on A7 III is definitely outdated, you need to spend some time setting it properly, then you can get used to it but it is not great. On the other hand I think that the placement on buttons and dials great, probably as good as it can be on a full frame camera of that size.
Was up in Portland visiting My favorite camera store, Pro Photo Supply and they had a Panasonic Rep there demonstrating the complete camera line. Great conversation and he told me that the S1 will be available " February-March" and the official release will be at the NAB in Vegas in April.
sony has the better lens lineup, but the z6 with the prores raw, 12bit & possibly 6k output with higher frame rates on the ninja 5 recorder, it just got interesting!
By modifying the Sony's internal picture parameters (e.g., sharpness, contrast, etc.), can its colors not be made as good as the Nikon out of body? For RAW, I don't see that it would matter, since you could just make presets in Lightroom (or whatever tool you use) and automatically apply those to every photo on import. If I'm correct, then it wouldn't take any additional time in editing and Sony's colors can be just as good out of camera. If I'm wrong, I'd enjoy hearing your explanation. Thanks again for a great review.
That is a great question. to large extent, you can improve colors by doing what you have described, but it is more complicated. The color science, as a part of image processing, determines how the camera reads information from the sensor and what you can do with the RAWs as well. It is usually possible to get same look with Sony though.
I don't enjoy using touch screens for selecting parameters. I don't even like using it on my smart phone. So the lack of touch screen menu selections of the Sony cameras doesn't bother me at all...
As always a great review. I shoot with the Sony A6500 and "MAY" add the A7iii to my kit because I like to shoot with two cameras. I don't do video, so having a pair of cameras with different focal length primes is quite handy rather than switching lenses on a single camera. However, I am waiting to see what Sony puts on the table with the new crop format mirrorless camera which we are waiting for. A crop camera does quite well for my needs and many of my Sony and Sigma lenses are designed for crop cameras.
Excellent review, thank you! I've been filming with the Z6 over a year now and love it, but I did notice the same problem in really low light situations. But the advantages I think are still worth it over the Sony. I sold my Sony because the color science doesn't always work well and I don't use autofocus very much, so that didn't effect me.
@ant billionz color science absolutely is a factor. Color grading requires time, so every professional will appreciate if he can get the best possible results with the least amount of work / time.
I've always been offput from Nikon's hideous rocker dial in the back. However, I do prefer the finer ribbing on the front dial of the Nikon to Sony's cruder one.
BUT with the z6 auto focus you can read the text in the watch all the time, but with the sony you have wait for the autofocus for read it. Im not sure if an 2.8 is a good comparation with an F4
That is because I am moving the watch much more slowly in Z6 test. That is the fastest movement it can process. A7 III can instantly refocus which is point of this test, aperture doesn't matter.
This vid is surprisingly already 5 yo, and it is the vid I'm looking for. I'm new in photography and I want to upgrade my gear. My camera now is Nikon D90, very old camera I know😂, and I'm still confused between Z6 ot A7 III even after seeing this it's still hard to decide
Thanks for the great channel! Itraded in my Nikon D810 for the Sony after also trying the Z6. I couldn’t even try the Canon EOS R as no stores had one available in the UK! The AF, especially Eye AF (seeing as the Z6 doesn’t have this) swung it for me. I’ve been really happy with the combination of the A7iii and Tamron 28-75 and also paired it with a Godoy V860II flash. I’m now looking to get a Canon 70-200L 2.8 to get with the Sigma MC11 I bought at the same time!
I have the Canon 70/200 f2.8 IS ll L and it doesnt work good with my mcll on my A7rlll. I bought the adapter to use with glass i already own. But i would never buy new glass to use with the adapter.
photographerjonathan Thanks for the feedback. I had heard that the latest firmware update for the A7iii significantly improves the usability of EF glass with the MC11. My aim was to try it out before buying a good second hand lens, but it may not be worth it in the end!
Hello, have The Z6 has released software updates (2.10 in November 2019). Have you tried the Z6 since the updates? Second point of issue, Nikon Z series are new "kids" in the block. I have lots of Nikon lenses, and can use my old F manual lenses. By the way, use Lumix for M43.
The moment I try the EVF on Sony I almost drop 😄 coming from a dslr I feel the quality really bad. I just tried it in the shop so I don’t know the result with the sunlight but I have the feeling that you can’t spend too much time looking through this EVF. What is your point of view ? Is it not too tiring for the eyes ?
Visually it is downgrade from larger DSLR but I still prefer it, because I can see the exposure in the real time. It is not particularly impressive viewfinder, but it is fine to use in my opinion.
The Hybrid Shooter last one I tried was on a A7. Refresh rate seemed too low and was getting jelly like motion. As I said for me its like starring at a tiny TV which is not appealing. That said the Nikon Z6 has peaked my interest again but would I need to find a UK store I can try one.
Thing is ... Canon and Nikon don't believe in mirrorless. They only built them for market share. Sony has based their camera business on mirrorless. They all need to improve, but until the others truly get on board, Sony will remain the winner. (I'm a Nikon DSLR shooter)
They both use Sony made sensors if I’m not wrong. Difference in image quality is marginal (unless you shoot in low light, which I love doing). Both are great cameras. However, Sony lenses are much pricier, although the quality of the lenses are really good. Great selection of Zeiss lenses and manual focus becomes so easy with the A7iii (it auto zooms as you adjust the focus ring for you to focus precisely). I am sure that the Z6 will have more affordable lenses than the Sony in the future. However, I disagree with you regarding build quality. The Z6 is plastic, covered with rubber. On the other hand, the A7iii is made of metal (magnesium alloy), which feels more premium in my opinion.
Both sensor are made by Sony, but processing and use on sensor PDAF makes a big difference. There is a lot of great budget options for Sony made by 3rd party manufacturers that work just as well as Sony lenses. Nikon is only plastic on the outside, frame is magnesium and I might prefer plastic on the outsides due to the scratch resistance.
@@TheHybridShooter Nikon design all of their sensors in-house. They also make the machines that Sony use to produce all of their sensors. Sony produce sensors for Nikon using the strict, and unique, design architecture provided by Nikon. It is unfortunate that many believe that Nikon just use Sony sensors. which is not true.
I don't have any subscriber count goals, I just want to provide relevant information, but I am very happy with the feedback from the community, so can I say that I have reached my goal in this regard.
Is picture quality not the most important feature for a camera? Alone for the banding issue on the Z6 & Z7 insn't a k.o. for you? The comparison are well done and again more as fair. 👍
Thank you, it depends on how much image quality do you actually need and whether you shoot in such conditions. Z7 has different sensor and as far as I know, banding is not as bad on Z7.
Did you have the electronic shutter on during your higher ISO test? The banding appears to be from the oscillation of the LED lights, not the PDAF points. Do you have the raw files posted anywhere? Thanks!
Those are different categories. Nikon Z7 is competitor of A7R III, so first of all you need to decide weather you want high-resolution camera(A7R III or Z7) or hybrid camera (A7 III or Z6).
Great review as usual. I switched to Sony from Nikon 3 years ago. I think I would have bought the Z6 with the adapter if it had been available then. The Nikkor lenses are quite cheaper than Sony and there are so many available on the used market. That matters a lot, more than negligible IQ differences. But now it is not compelling enough to switch back. The new Z lenses seem quite expensive. I am wondering how the face AF and eye AF differ between thw 2 cameras. It is an important aspect that has changed the way I shoot. XQD card is kind of a disappointing choice. I wish Nikon would have offered the camera with SD card option as well. When I shot Nikon the only time I needed servicing was when I dropped or banged the camera. I never had a camera fail in 10 years on its own. And I used cameras like D7100 / D610 etc, not the top level cameras. Never a problem ever if I was shooting in light rain / drizzle. Sony cameras on the other hand needed servicing because the rear buttons stopped responding, or the AF point would go crazy. I took better care than the Nikon. An authorized repair center told me that the internal circuitry on the Sony cameras is usually less robust, with ribbon cables being a bit short, connectors not as strong. I also wonder if the Nikon shutter closes when the camera is off and you change the lens. It is very easy to get dust on the Sony sensor because it is exposed when you change lenses. I wish there was a way to close the shutter when the camera is off.
Thank you, for me Tamron 28-75mm F2.8, 70-200mm F4 and FE 28mm F2 cover most of needs, 90mm F2.8 and 85mm F1.8 are also great portrait options. I just miss some better ultra wide F4 lens. Face tracking is better on Sony A7 III, it works 99%, I would say that Z6 works on 85%. Shutter isn't closed when the camera is switched off, but I much prefer dust on sensor over dust in shutter mechanism.
@@TheHybridShooter I am thinking of buying the Tamron 28-75 to simplify my set up. FE 28mm seems redundant. I also have the Sony 55 and Sony 85. I'd sell 2 primes. I most likely keep either the 85 or 55. 55 has more use for me. 85 rarely but it has the programmable button for eye af. What makes you keep the 28 prime? One stop advantage over the Tamron does not seem so meaningful, unless small size is an important factor.
Z6 is not a real competitor for A7iii as of now and by the time there are enough lenses to level the playing field, we'll be in Z6iii vs A75 era in a 2-3 years and by that time hopefully we can look at a reasonably competitive Canon as well as Panasonic full frame. Personally I'd pick a Nikon or Panasonic if the price/performance ratio is comparable.
WIth the new 24-200, I think the Z6 might be the perfect travel camera for full frame shooters. So tempted by this, assuming the optical performance is as good as the other Z lenses. Hopefully you'll get one to test at some point.
To be honest, I am not a fan of ultra-zooms, there is no chance that superzoom can be as good as standard zoom, so the optical performance definitely won't match other Z lenses. At that aperture it kind of defeats the purpose of FF.
@@TheHybridShooter Fair enough. The 24-200 is perfect for hiking landscape photography though though, and you still get the lower noise and higher dynamic range benefits of full frame. So I really disgree that it defeats the purpose of FF.
@@peteT269 If you are willing to sacrifice the image quality in exchange for the zoom range, then why not... I don't particularly like changing lenses, but I would still much prefer 24-70 and 70-200 over a superzoom.
I got a little lost when looking at the high ISO comparison. @2.29 it looked like Nikon had a better image but review mentioned "light bending"??? I assume the reviewer isn't talking about General Relativity so I'm not sure what photography characteristic the reviver is talking about.... A little further expiation on light bending would be appreciated.
@@TheHybridShooter Hey Thanks, now that I know what the reviewer was talking about I see what he was saying with all the noise…. I appreciate the help, truly....

Actually I'm not fully satisfied with nikon d5300 crop sensor camera that's I want to updating my camera...can you please suggest me a perfect camera to buy for professional work like product photography and videography....natural colors do matters to me alot it should be perfect... Thank you
@lostintimeline I don't know if they fixed those issues by FW update, but if it still does that banding / color mashing thing, I definitely don't recommend using Z6 for weddings. I don't know what you mean by "overkill lenses".

Both are great options with different advantages, there is not much that I can tell you besides what I have said in the video. E-mount lens selection is already very good, so that might be important as well.
@@TheHybridShooter That's actually true, okay lemme put my question this way, is it a bad decision to go with the nikon, should I put alot of effort and spend more than a lens worth of money and get the SONY? does the Sony make a world of difference?
I love your review super helpful for me to understand what should i look for when checking a camera. But to be honest somehow I'm confused, I'm planing of upgrading my camera and it's still not clear to me what should i go for. my main use is macro photography, and i would like to make macro videos as well, and also shoot landscape nature usually wide shots. What's importent for me when looking on a camera is : color depth, photo res, and slow motion. What not important to me is low light cause usually it's controlled senerio, i can just add lights. I own nikon d5300 and all my lenses are nikon, but i can invest in speed booster. The cameras I'm considering are: gh5, canon d60/80, sony a7 one of the many version's or black magic.. Ill be happy to hear what are your thoughts about what i should go for and why. Thanks
Thank you for your video. I use both Nikon DSLRs and Sony A7 (ii and rii). The former for fast action and the latter for general use. I wonder which camera is better in terms of EVF lag? Sony has faster autofocus but is it good enough to replace my Nikon DSLRs with it for fast action photography? Love to hear your view.
Could a new firmware fix low light issues of Z6? My D7200 has 150000+shots in 2 years with no problems by now, just some dead pixels :/ + Sigma 18-35 and 50-100... Thinking on an upgrade by the need of stabilization due to my video and low light shooting usage. The main problem as Nikon user that my only option to upgrade is getting a z6 and use it with crop so while...
It is possibile, and I hope that FW will improve, but I have no information about that. I don't recommend using full frame cameras with crop lenses, it would be very significant downgrade in comparison with APS-C lenses on APS-C sensor.
Hello my friend! I was looking forward to your take on this, as I really enjoy Nikon handling (used to have a D600). Looking forward for them to improve AF-C and low light. Nikon has made great cameras for a long time, it's hard to believe they won't fix the hiccups that this version still has. Fullframe got a lot more interesting again now, and with the S1 coming this'll all be very exciting.
So do I, next Z cameras should be great if they fix a couple of issues. S1 and S1R review will also be available on this channel in foreseeable future.
At 2:37 you show high iso comparison and comment on z6's banding issue...to me it looks like banding on this A7iii shot which is worse than anything from the Z6. Does Sony A7iii suffer from banding as well?
@@TheHybridShooter I haven't heard of it in any reviews...I am just going on what you have shown in your video...the Z6 has some weird colour fx going down at 2:37 in your vid...but the Sony A7iii shot you show looks banded to me. Am I not describing it correctly? Can you see what I mean?
No, I don't know what you mean, there is no banding visible on Sony. Some patterns may be caused by RUclips compression, especially if you are not watching in 4K on 4K screen.

In a raw comparaison the A7III might win, but as the Z6 is more comfortable, it is more easy to take better pictures with it.
That said, I only tested it at a store, and haven't brought them to real life...
" Technically speaking, the A7III is the clear winner." LOL, Nope.
hi...is z6 worth today? considering xt4 is also available? i am torn which one to go for.. if only xt4 was FF damn it..
On the other hand I think that the placement on buttons and dials great, probably as good as it can be on a full frame camera of that size.
just waiting for the Panasonic full frame cameras 😊
So am I, review shouldl be available in foreseeable future.
Same here. I'm also interested to see what the a7Siii has to offer.
Will you be able to utilize M 4/3 lenses ?
Was up in Portland visiting My favorite camera store, Pro Photo Supply and they had a Panasonic Rep there demonstrating the complete camera line. Great conversation and he told me that the S1 will be available " February-March" and the official release will be at the NAB in Vegas in April.
Rusty Zipper No, that will not be possible.
This is the review I wanna see!!! Thank you!!!!!!!
You're welcome!
Z6 or G9. What would you choose if you could only have one of them?
Depends on what I would it for.
@@TheHybridShooter Which one is better as your only camera for every situation?
Like for a person who want to only have one camera and be able to do everything with it.
sony has the better lens lineup, but the z6 with the prores raw, 12bit & possibly 6k output with higher frame rates on the ninja 5 recorder, it just got interesting!
It sure did, although I am very curious to see how it will work in real-world use.
It bothers most users though.
Thank you, there are benefits to having both FF and APS-C body, it also depends on what you are shooting.
What was your method for 1:51 on HDR. Was that done in camera or did you use the 3 or 5 bracketed shots? If so what program did you use to blend?
It is just one RAW shot with highlights set to -100 and shadows to +100 in Luminar 3 - bit.ly/SkylumLuminar2018
Hi! Still thinking between Canon EOS R, Sony A7 III or Nikon Z6? What is better to buy?
Sony A7 III.
Thank you, for me it was unfortunately a deal breaker and I also prefer more neutral Sony colors, so I stayed with Sony.
@ant billionz color science absolutely is a factor. Color grading requires time, so every professional will appreciate if he can get the best possible results with the least amount of work / time.
Thanks the video. Good job. Bratislava is very beautiful in your video, I'm watching in Hungary.
Thank you, I'm glad that you like it!

Watching another review regarding the A73 rear screen not being accurate to judge exposure. Do you find this with your A73.
It is not the best screen around, but it is complete fine for judging exposure, unless you are shooting flat or something like that.
You can have it display the histogram at all times (EVF and LCD screen) for even better precision.
@@Francisco_Otero Histograms are useless. They don't tell you anything.
@@jUQMtDmf sorry, but I have to disagree.
Awesome job on the video with details! Can you/anyone suggest good lens for product photography on A7 III? Thanks!
Thank you! Depends on the focal length that you prefer. I use FE 90mm F2.8 Macro G for most of my products photography.
How does the ibis compare? Couldn't concluded anything from your video for photography. Which one is best?
I've always been offput from Nikon's hideous rocker dial in the back.
However, I do prefer the finer ribbing on the front dial of the Nikon to Sony's cruder one.
BUT with the z6 auto focus you can read the text in the watch all the time, but with the sony you have wait for the autofocus for read it. Im not sure if an 2.8 is a good comparation with an F4
That is because I am moving the watch much more slowly in Z6 test. That is the fastest movement it can process. A7 III can instantly refocus which is point of this test, aperture doesn't matter.
Wouww. Congratulation. You made a good review.
Did things changed a lot with the upgrade of firmware of Nikon Z6?
Thank you, I unfortunately don't know, I haven't had a chance to test it with new FW.
Check out Z6 II tests on Manny Ortiz channel.
You're welcome! It is rumored that Tamron will make 70-200mm lens as well, so you might want to wait for that unless you need right now.
I have the Canon 70/200 f2.8 IS ll L and it doesnt work good with my mcll on my A7rlll. I bought the adapter to use with glass i already own. But i would never buy new glass to use with the adapter.
I completely agree.
photographerjonathan
Thanks for the feedback. I had heard that the latest firmware update for the A7iii significantly improves the usability of EF glass with the MC11. My aim was to try it out before buying a good second hand lens, but it may not be worth it in the end!
Eye AF coming to Z6.
Not so a good camera the z6 and for video?
The moment I try the EVF on Sony I almost drop 😄 coming from a dslr I feel the quality really bad. I just tried it in the shop so I don’t know the result with the sunlight but I have the feeling that you can’t spend too much time looking through this EVF. What is your point of view ? Is it not too tiring for the eyes ?
Visually it is downgrade from larger DSLR but I still prefer it, because I can see the exposure in the real time. It is not particularly impressive viewfinder, but it is fine to use in my opinion.
Like looking at a postage stamp sized TV from 10yrs ago! I personally cannot adjust to EVF sadly.
@@HecatombRecordings Have you tried any 3.69 mil. dot viewfinder?
The Hybrid Shooter last one I tried was on a A7. Refresh rate seemed too low and was getting jelly like motion. As I said for me its like starring at a tiny TV which is not appealing. That said the Nikon Z6 has peaked my interest again but would I need to find a UK store I can try one.
Very useful comparision. Thank you!
You're welcome, thank you for watching!
Thing is ... Canon and Nikon don't believe in mirrorless. They only built them for market share. Sony has based their camera business on mirrorless. They all need to improve, but until the others truly get on board, Sony will remain the winner. (I'm a Nikon DSLR shooter)
Is the evf so much better on the Nikon? I mean is it a deal breaker for Sony or you can see ok with it also?
It is definitely better on Nikon but for me it is not a deal breaker. Sony EVF is still OK to use.
The Hybrid Shooter Great to know! Thanks for the reply. Cheers!
@@adriangaynor9184 I'm sorry to disappoint, but it is just Sony IMX410 sensor. It has been proved by X ray scan and electron microscope.

is the banding issue fixable via firmware? Does z6 still have these issues mentioned in 2020? thanks for your great video
Unfortunately, I don't know, I haven't tested since then.
Image quality is very much the last thing I look for in a camera to be honest.
I have Z6. No banding visible yet.
@@mneedes2 It is visible in specific situations as you can see in the video.
All high-end cameras have very similar image quality in today's world. Image quality is more determined by the quality of lens you use.
Did you have the electronic shutter on during your higher ISO test? The banding appears to be from the oscillation of the LED lights, not the PDAF points. Do you have the raw files posted anywhere? Thanks!
No, all of the shots were taken using mechanical shutter.
So for using mainly JPEGs (and used to Fuji) the Nikon Z6 would be the better option, right?
No, Sony is actually very similar to Fuji color science, those two are the most accurate. Nikon uses much more processing.
@@TheHybridShooterThanks for the reply, wasn't aware of that! Greetings from Vienna :-)
I want to buy a camera... which one is best - Sony A7R3 or Nikon Z6
Mostly because of that size. I always keep one small lens around 30mm since it is my most favorite focal length for street and travel photography.
Sony or nikon?
Very helpful review, thank you for sharing it here. Cheers.
You're welcome, thank you for watching!
a very good videos iam thinking of buying a mirror less camera either a Nikon or Sony , you have given a beautiful info, thanks
Thank you, I'm glad that it was helpful.
It is banding not bending. It refers to the artifacts that you can see in the shadows.

"both use full sensor in 4k" doesn't the Sony a7iii CROP above 24p/4k? One key reason I'm considering the Nikon z6.

Very well made video.......appreciate it.

Autofocus is the most important aspect of a camera, that’s why I bought the D750 😂
A7III easily beats D750 in autofocus.
Isn't bending only an issue when using electronic shutter?
No, none of the sample were shot using ES, but it gets even worse with ES.
I don‘t see any banding on your pictures. Isn‘t banding just an an issue of Z7?
At 2:37 you show high iso comparison and comment on z6's banding issue...to me it looks like banding on this A7iii shot which is worse than anything from the Z6. Does Sony A7iii suffer from banding as well?
