That monochromatic gradation is leaning more toward gray all the time. Sadly, that is also happening to me. As I recall from the Nikon Z50 video last year, Chris and I were born just a few days apart.
I bought the z6 and the a7III and used them both for a whole year of weddings. I ended up keeping the z6 and selling the a7III. When comparing the a7III to the z6 firmware 3 the AF is near identical. The Nikon is far ahead in grip, build, weather sealing, EVF, IBIS, raw video, 10 bit external, touch screen, menus, and colors sooc. The only two areas the Sony is better is in battery life which is close to double, and the ability to power the camera while running via USB. The z6 is by far the most underrated camera, at the current $1799 price and firmware 3.0 it is amazing. Still bummed about the single card slot.
I have a very similar story to yours, as a wedding/portraiture photographer/videographer I was debating between with Sony and Canon. I bought a Sony a7ii went it was first release as a backup camera to my 5dmarkiv, and it was alright camera but the colors and AF was just plain awful, but after the release of the a7iii and a7riii I ultimately ditched Canon to fully commit to Sony. Yes, the colors are not the best, but the battery life, dual SD card slots, and the AF was more than enough to switch :)
James Ryan that might be true i never trier the Sony but I just sold my Z6&Z7 and bought 2 EOS R. The AF Is soooo much more accurate and that’s what drove me away from Z System (along with the amazing new RF glass) Z EYE AF was never consistent and had 50% in focus only which was tiring and getting old. Yeah I had latest firmware and all Z glass
for Sony sistem you can buy the Tamron holy trinity of lenses and for less than half of the price of Nikon and Canon with brand lenses. Also A7IV will appear by the end of the year.
I've loved the A7III, battery life, AF, and low light are insane and I love it for that. Literally the only thing it's missing that I really wish it had was 4k 60 frame rate or external 10-bit recording. Everything else has been great for me.
What pushes me to choose Sony are the Tamron 2.8 zooms. The others don’t have competing lenses at similar costs and size. Waiting for the 7IV to improve on ergo/LCD/EVF.
They actually do. The Nikon Z 50mm is the best 50mm ever. And it cost half the price of the Sony'/ Zeiss 55mm. Also the Nikon Z 24-70 f2.8 S is little pricey, but it's a lot better then the Tamron 28-70 or even the Sony 24-70 f2.8.
@@BigBoss-gb4cx And the new Sony 20mm f1.8 FE is way better and cheaper than the Nikkor Z 20mm f/1.8, the Sony 24mm F1.4 and their FE 90mm Macro are the best lenses available in their class. Horses for courses, far greater range with Sony suiting all budgets both native and third party.
Paul Jones nah, I own the lens, it’s pretty smooth, if you stop it down, it might be a bit chunky, but so is every lens, at 2.8 it’s as smooth as you could ask for something at 2.8
Without the Sony a7iii I would have never switched to FF. Combined with awesome third party lenses from Samyang and Tamron, it's just about affordable en portable enough for me!
Dionamuh I just bought a A7III, 28-75, and 17-28 all brand new last week for under $3500 (US)! That’s incredible value for a hobbyist like myself with professional gear
@@BeaveBallin7 I’m really interested in the A7iii. I’ve been burrowing my friends Canon T7i rebel, another’s Nikon D3200, and another’s Nikon D810. I keep coming back to the Sony A7iii to have my own cameras and for it to be full frame. I’m wanting to do portraits. I have started to maternity photos for my friends and family that are expecting. My brother in law wants me to be apart of his wedding by taking photos. The thing I’m afraid of is the age. Is buying the a7iii going to hold up for the next two to three years. Are they going to discontinue it and render it obsolete. A lot of the wedding stuff is going to be happening around the first part of next year. The A7iii and A7C are in my price range. I like the dual SD slots on the a7iii. Just curious on what others are thinking.
@@airrun88 It's a good but old camera. I look at it also but we know that lenses give the big difference and Canon have an extensive line of old but great lenses. There is no need to buy R lenses.
I'm someone who's always used Canon. I love their glass, and I love their make and feel. I still do. I used a Canon 5Diii until a year back. Bought a Sony a7iii last year to get into the mirrorless market mainly because EOS R was kinda expensive and lacking in the lens department. I still use my old Canon during travel because it has wayyyy better battery life compared to the modern Sony, but I have to say that Sony's AF is astounding. And the eye tracking is phenomenal! Even under low light! Also, the two main lenses I use with it (70-200 GM and the Sigma 35mm/1.4) are absolutely amazing. I can't go back to my old 70-200 IS lens anymore. Haha. I'm excited for Canon's upcoming R5 though. Also for the new compact 70-200. Will probably use that as my second camera in a year or so if the world doesn't end by then. Haha.
Guys, one of the early Canon firmware updates has corrected the noise pattern issue when extremely pushing in the shadows. This is know and well documented and does, as a result, improve dynamic range results, which are really close to the rest of the pack, in a way that many would say any difference is minimal (DPReview agrees in their latest article on which the vid is based upon). DPReview however have not updated their studio scene test and their test shots do not reflect that. I am mentioning this because in the video you said that Canon has not made any changes in dynamic range behaviour through firmware.
EVF guys, EVF... Reviewers are not paying enough attention to that hugely important part of the mirrorless cameras. A high res, high refresh rate, bright and accurate EVF is very very important imo. And not all cameras have it as of 2020...
Michael Davleris, yes you are so right about the importance of an accurate EVF. I actually bought a Sony A9 and returned it because the EVF and the implementation of the EVF was really bad. Over sharpened and Sony didn’t use the full res of the EVF oled. My friend have a EOS R and I compared the EVF to my Nikon Z6. In my eyes there is a huge difference in both accuracy to the real world like colours, details, amount of light etc in favour to the Z6. And I noticed in the EOS R when you moved your eye a bit in the viewfinder there was quite noticeable amount of distortion. Nikon Z6/7 have the only sates factory EVF of the bunch. Though I haven’t tried A7rIV or S1.
At this point who cares what you buy. One edges out the others in this area and the other edges out in this area. Each system can easily produce great images and video. A skilled artist can use any of these
@@r.powell2351 Would it not be worth waiting to see the R5 or R6?.. that R5 sounds insane and I only shoot stills so the video features are not part of my decision. Not sure I'd jump off a Canon ship as I have multiple bodies, a number of L-glass (mk II versions) and the ergonomics are perfect for what I do. (High-speed aviation photography - military and aerobatic stunt pilots). The R wasn't even a consideration for me because continuous AF at 7-10 FPS isn't there... I've chosen to wait. Since you're a video person, your requirements are obviously far different.
I think Nikon's approach to their Z mount lenses makes a lot of sense: Focus on the lenses most people are going to use most often. 35, 50, and 85mm primes. Standard zooms for enthusiasts and pros alike.
Still no affordable Z mount 70-200mm F/4 lens on the roadmap, and I definitely prefer Son'y approach to opening up the system to 3rd party manufacturers which makes it more affordable for me for some lenses ( I similarly have a mix of Nikon and 3rd Party for my D7200).
@SwitchRich because they already have covered the most common zoom lens ranges. They have a 12-24/4, 16-35 both 2.8 and 4, 24-70 both 2.8 and 4, 24-240, 28-75, 24-105/4, 70-200 both 2.8 and f4, 100-400 and 200-600 and most users already own the zoom lenses they need, especially if they bought the 24-105/4 deal kit. That's why the best sellers in BHphoto from Sony are primes and macro followed by the 200-600mm. But then you see that overall best sellers for all mirrorless brands are the Sigma 24-70/2.8 for Sony E, the Tamron 70-180/2.8 for Sony E, and then a bunch of primes followed by the Sigma 12-24/2.8 for Sony E.
@SwitchRich Yep exactly, more so that now they are no more the only FF mirroless camera manufacturer. There was that article that they were prioritizing PS5 memory because of memory inventory. It sound crazy but it is real. I always say that, Nikon camera business is like 30% + while Sony is like 5% overall business. I think Canon is about half Nikon. They could easily sell their camera division compared to Nikon.
I love the Sony stuff. But I previously had a bunch of camera lenses that war Canon. And when you've already got $12,000 worth of glass you stick with that company most of the time..plus the R5 LOOKS TASTY!!
3rd party lenses is a big deal for me: I chose Sony A7III only because I could buy Tamron 28-75 2.8 as a travel lens. Both Nikon and Canon need 1000+$ more to buy 24-70, because no 3rd party glass exist for Z or R mount, you can buy another 1-2 lenses for Sony for that money.
@SwitchRich If you get the Nikon 24-70 F4 and 50 1.8 you have pretty much everything standard covered, and it's cheap and way better than any 3rd party crap by Tamron and Ligma.
@@rusparmesan 28mm is not very wide, but that's the only way they were able to make a 2.8, lol. The only 3rd party lenses I buy are Voigtlander and Zeiss, these are quality lenses. Everything else is waste of money.

Amazing to see how quickly both Nikon and Canon catching up with their 1st gen mirrorless against Sony's 3rd gen. So happy to see finally we have real competitions is mirrorless market, which is really great for us :D
I had the A7iii. I liked it a lot, I bought the z6 for Christmas just to try out ( I wasnt planing to send it back in 14 days if I dont like it). I ended up selling the A7iii. The z6 just do most things a lot better then the A7iii, this video doesn't really give justice to it. -better building -much better screen -better usability -better feeling -better clors -better senzor - better lenses ( less then the Sony, but what Nikon Z has is a lot better) -much better IBIS -faster card
Earlier in the year I helped someone buy the Sony A7iii, he tried to convince me to switch to mirrorless but I was being stubborn and thinking that I was going to stick to DLSRs for the foreseeable future. Well during a photoshoot with 2 young dancers, knowing that the Sony A7iii would have a much easier time tracking the things they did than my Nikon D750, I took it with me despite only having an 85mm 1.8 lens for it. I ended up using it for 90% of the photoshoot and that convinced me to get the Nikon Z6 (and sell the D750 and D500).
Thanks for sharing. Are you happy with z6 compared to your experience with a7iii? I’m a Nikon shooter as well and am debating between getting a z6 (to pair with all my f glasses) and switching to Sony. Sony is said to have better focus, but it needs me to sell all my Nikon glasses. So wondering if that makes that much difference from a real-world use scenario. Thanks in adavance!
@@lastStand630 I also like the fact you can shoot large, medium or small raw on the z7..idk about the z6. that means if I need 46 mp I have it..if im shooting a corporate event or wedding party I can shoot it at 26mp on medium raw. thats what stopped me from getting a sony a7. I like shooting detailed images too for landscape or high detailed portraits
@@tianqi169 Have you ever tried to hold Sony, its like toy with bad grip, weirdly put buttons and awful menus. Stay with Nikon as i am sure you will be revarded, Z-mount is the one to rule them all. I really really love my Z6, since i bought it it is always my nr.1 camera anywhere i go.
1:51 it's very personal thing, what screen is the best. Of course canon gives more angles. But for some shooters it's more comfortable to use simple tilting mechanism.
@@AugmentedGravity well considering most shots we take are overhead or below waist horizontal shoots (and this is especially true for videographers) consider how many moves you need to do with Canon Eos R. You have to swivel screen first then turn it arround, with Nikon its only tilt, 1 move only. Its also more robust solution, not sticking out of camera too much. Well there are shots when i miss full swivel on my Nikon z6 but i actually use tilt a lot and prefer it as it is.
I got an EOS R at launch and I love it. Still only using EF lenses on it with the Canon adapter, but performance is amazing. Literally my only complaint is I wish the Fn touch bar was replaced with a joystick. Though, I haven't had any issues using the touch screen to move my focus points.
Nobody’s going to be disappointed with any of these cameras and don’t think anything has changed significantly to move anyone away from their particular brands, which is really good for the market and competition. Look forward to seeing more third party lenses for both the Canon and Nikon however adaptors do a good job.
tbh ive used all three and the one that just feels the nicest to use is the R, when it just feels nice to use a camera I feel more inspired and create more and better images.

I was curious about the pricing of those cameras an just looked it up. As of now you can buy a canon EOS R for as low as 1900 Euro, a Sony A7iii for 1844 Euro and a Nikon Z6 for 1500 Euro, which makes the z6 easily the best bang for the buck. Keep in mind that prices may differ in different regions. Greetings from Germany :)
As good as it is feature-wise, and for image quality, two things For sure hold me back from jumping to Sony - that EVF, and the handling. I get this is more subjective, and the touchbar on the EOS R isn’t loved by anyone, but the Canon still feels way better in my hand. The A7III is a huge improvement over the A7II, but still not enough.
I just got my nikon z6 2 weeks ago. I asked my friend what do you think of the camera? She said it’s underpriced because it is really the best packaged camera. The LCD is amazing, the ergonomics, the quality of photos and the video. I highly recommend. I picked this camera over SONY a73 eventhough I saw many reviewers especially the ones on YT and social media use Sony. I doubt it at first but I just followed my gut and now I have no regret. 😇
@@vicimed8799 the image looks great straight out of camera. If you’re lazy to edit photos like me, you will find this useful. The ergonomics as well, it’s more comfortable holding the z6. The LCD is better on the z6 as well. It’s clear and bright. However, a73 is very good at autofocus and is better than z6 in that specific area. I don’t see AF as a dealbreaker for me so that’s why I chose z6.
I moved from Fuji to using the a7iii for a year now. I wish I had moved sooner. I have no issues with the grip (I do use the battery grip b/c I shoot only portraits). I only miss focus 1-2% of the time. I love the AF!!! The 3rd party lens support is great and getting better all the time. It's punches very high for value. Wait till the a7iv comes out!!!

@@rosetta-stxned yeah, they are doing better lately, i acknowledge that, and canon also catch up with their newer firmware and their EOS 1D in its mirrorless mode.. But i still prefer canon DPAF since thats the one im used for, and know its characteristic..
All these are great cameras. Its just a matter of preference. In my 11 yrs of photography, i agreed what others always say. Its the person who is making the picture.
Have people commenting on the video and saying something else is better really all these cameras, lol. All I know is that I like my Nikon Z6, the best camera available, for me. I don't think about Canon and Sony for a second, but when Nikon comes out with the next generation ... 100%. Nice review.
I´ve used two of these cameras extensively, the Sony a7iii and Canon EOS R. I agree on everything that’s said in this video. But there’s some things not mentioned that I want to address. What I don’t like about the Sony cameras is that dust very easily sticks to their sensors. In that regard the shutter mechanism of Canon EOS R is brilliant. Not so brilliant is that EOS R is prone to banding when using HDR software to get most out of the sensor bandwidth. I’m sorry to say that Sony a7iii feels very, very sluggish when it comes to user interface. I’ve started to count clicks when turning the shutter & aperture dial because visual response is so slow. The camera feel like an amateur camera with a premium sensor. For nature photography a7iii is great, but I’m often struggling with face colors. They lack some red, and it’s not easy to correct in post. My favorites in that regard is Canon and Olympus color. Sony and Panasonic is still not good enough. Fujifilm i have not tried. So I tend to work longer with Sony files in post to get them good. My last criticism about Sony a7iii is it’s continuous autofocus speed when shooting video. It’s not impressive because it often lags behind. Without doing a proper side by side test, I feel that Canon EOS R does better. Also EOS 1Dx ii was better keeping focus when running both cameras on the same dolly closing up to a persons face. Maybe some tweaking of settings may improve this. Settings were default on both Sony and Canon cameras. Anyway, I find both Sony a7iii and Canon EOS R promising, but I’m not satisfied yet.
I’m between these two cameras and I don’t know which one to get Im a artist and producer and I need a camera to start taking pics more professional and start doing music videos. ¿Witch one I should get?
As I read this, you have interesting experiences. I use canon dslr and I am considering switching to Canon RP mirrorless and I admire Tamron glasses as they are handy and affordable, but RF lenses are so expensive that I can't imagine owning them. Can you recommend any other combination? I don't want to get used to Sony and its control - bad ergonomics ... I saw Nikon z6 + Z lenses in action and it worked perfectly so I don't know what to do....
the Sony a7III was my introduction to digital photography, I'm glad it's still relevant. I'm blown away! because of all the options these things have compared to my old film cameras
As a portrait and event shooter, who does hours of work a day, I need reliable output, comfy ergonomics and balance (which are for me more important than overal weight) and through build. Since I'm kinda skilled and AF needs to be just fast and reliable (I can cope with some limits in functions), I decided to stick to my system's top DSLR. But I wish mirrrorless to improve.
Sounds like you can’t go wrong with any of them.. I went with the z6 and I’ve not been disappointed.. videos come out excellent photos are amazing.. native glass is spectacular.. would some f1.2 or f1.4 be nice? Yes but it would also be expensive and I probably would be adapting everything if they had that eos r strategy.. I don’t know a single eos r user with native glass because it’s crazy money. Also I’m able to adapt Sony and Canon lenses with a cheap adapter and it works very well so the lens range is covered.. the power of that giant mount is showing.
Yes...i was headed for the R then thought that if i was going to get the benefit of the system and native glass I would never pay the sort of money Canon want for their RF glass! So went for the Nikon instead and can also use EF lenses on it as well so I'm very happy as always preferred the Nikon colours and rendering.
Great video guys, as always! I feel like this comparison is more than relevant today with all the improvements that Canon and Nikon have introduced in their cameras since they first came out. Still, they're playing catch-up and Sony, although not as far ahead as it once was remains the king of mirrorless full-frame having a more matured system, greater selection of both cameras and lenses to cater for different needs and audiences, so let's hope it doesn't fall asleep in the lead and see how it reacts to Canon's up-coming EOS R5 and R6.
You forgot a very important feature on the Sony which is the second memory card, a BIG reason why I was pushed from Nikon toward Sony, I would be a Z6 owner and with Nikon if not for this feature. Another big Sony advantage which was talked about is the third party lenses. You can built today a totally professional lens line up for a wedding pro with only Sigma or Tamron lenses which cost HALF of OEM lenses, thats something you cant say with either Nikon or Canon. No doubt Canon lenses are great but you pay so much for basically same performance which Sigma and Tamron offer for Sony. I assume in time you will be able to get these third party lenses with Canon and Nikon but when ? Last thing they didnt touch was Z6 IBIS which is better then Sony's and the lack of IBIS on the Canon. Overall I agree the Sony is still best but all 3 cameras starting to show their age and all deserve to be retired and replaced.
The thing was that Sony literally gave away their mount formula to these third party companies because well they didn't have a sufficient lens line up for quite a while and they knew that if they want to be more competitive, Sony had to open up to other companies, heck even Samyang is making excellent AF glass which is a first for their company. I did read somewhere that Nikon may open their lens mount some time soon. However, Canon is refusing to participate.
@@jn3750 They're good enough. At the right viewing distances i.e. not pixel peeping, they get the job done. And if someone asks what camera or lens was used and says "ewww that lens? It's not even an L glass or 1.2 RF or Noct 0.95? Such trashy glass " then we've failed as artists. Even if you were printing the size of a wall, at the right viewing distance, differences will be so small. Law of diminishing returns bro.
I used to shoot Fujifilm. And every time a new camera from Fuji comes up I feel the need to upgrade. Ever since getting a Sony a7 iii since launch, I’ve never felt the urge in the past years to ever upgrade bodies. The camera nails shots effortlessly and that’s all that matters!
Nice. Glad you guys did this. Great vid. Love my Z6. Haven’t looked back at my DSLR since I got it. The firmware updates have really improved this camera 📷 drastically in the focus area.
@@chriscommons7915 Aside from other Nikons I have, my last DSLR before the upgrade to the Z6 was my d7200. Almost jumped on the D750 but waited too long to do that so jumped on their mirrorless. I actually just traded it in for the Z6ll. The biggest thing for me was the over all picture quality of the camera. I was super impressed coming off the D7200.
Flippy screens vs. fully articulated is 100% a question of personal preference. Personally ? I ditched the (otherwise really neat) EOS RP because of the articulated screen, and will never buy again anything BUT a tilt LCD, which are way better for still, imo ;)
I'am really interested to see how Canon's next generation R6&R5 are going to compete against Sony's a7 iv/a7r iv, after all these improvements they made in such a short time. But there is still no replacement in sight for Nikon's Z6&Z7.
11:53 holy cow, for a second I thought it was a vertical photo and they were gonna put a comparison to the left (like how sometimes they did before) but it was a horizontal shot!
I am using Sony A7 iii and very happy with it,I switched from A7 ii which has terrible Auto focus and lack of feautures which Sony A7 iii has.Main reason i chose Sony is Resale value and wide range of lens selection. For example,I had FE 50 MM F1.8.I bought Tamron 28 - 75 MM and its worth the money %100.Great lens overall. For Portrait I bought 85 MM F1.8 which is quite good but my main goal is to buy new Sigma 85 MM F1.4 lens which is very light and crazy sharp. As you can see,you have good plenty of options with Sony.Canon and Nikon have fantastic lenses in their line ups but Lens options very few and good lenses are Extremely expensive. (Canon 85 MM F1.2 costs more expensive than Sony A7 iii body)
One thing is incorrect both Canon and Nikon Lenses offer way more than choices that Sony don’t even come close neither quality or quantity every Sony user has been adapting canon lenses for the longest and Nikon has some of the best class just use FTZ adapter Period plus all third party Manufacturer’s make lenses for canon and Nikon just use adapter I guess you forgot people have been using Canon EF mount Sigma 18-35 since it’s inception no one complained than, keeping on saying Sony has more lens choice is an incorrect statement
The A7 series has been around for a while , i have seen in some stores they still sell the A72 in Australia , which i think from memory was not as good for video due to heat issues and having smaller battery i think ? but people still buy them for stills for which they are still fine , and the later A73 is still a popular camera and a lot of them around which may explain the price , and that is another reason i like the A73 , i can buy all manner of accessories for my A73 just about any where , and because it is in the alpha series and some accessories are interchangeable with other models which really is a cool thing if you are a sony owner ..
What about battery life? That was a huge factor for me when choosing Sony A7 3. Had Nikon Z6 had a larger battery, I would have chosen that camera due to ergonomics.

fascinating how much weight people give to video performance. As a photographer I simply don't care about video. I suppose content creators are the ones who are concerned about this, but an iphone's video is fine for me given that I rarely shoot any video at all
I have the Z6. Love it. Just bought the Z50 to go with it. I love they use the same mount on all their mirrorless. Slapped the 50 1.8 right on the Z50 and the shots looked great.
Canon RF lenses may be great but they make that system so expensive. I like the lower cost and smaller size of the Nikon Z series. And the quality is still excellent.

I guess it's fair to give the lens win to Sony because of third-party support, but it does understate the usefulness of the EF to RF adapter. A number of old EF lenses actually have *improved* autofocus performance when adapted, so you can take your time when upgrading to the new stuff. Older, difficult lenses like the 85 f/1.2 and 50 f/1.0 suddenly become more practical. You also have access to a bunch of specialty lenses that you couldn't otherwise, like the cinema lenses, the biggest big-whites, odd stuff like the MPE-65, and *seven* different tilt-shift options. And you've got the drop-in filters and a huge stable of inexpensive, third-party EF lenses, which also work great when adapted.
And Canon has the best value lenses..because i use my EF-RF adapter with my old cheap and great lenses, and they work 100% exactly the same,Sony lenses are 10 time more expensive, and metabones is not good as EF-RF adapter.
I used to shoot Canon but never got on with the menus and layout. Tried a friend’s Sony but it felt totally alien. Switched to Nikon and suddenly everything just felt right. To be honest there’s only tiny margins between these cameras so whichever you feel most comfortable with or whatever you already have lenses to fit. If your photos are bad then it’s not the gear.
Alexander Stehle beats the tails off these cameras in the video realm for sure, but these are more FF hybrid cameras that can shoot great photos and relatively good video
Great choice. There's a slight crop in 4k recording but apart from that you're getting the best AF, best colors including dynamic range and skin tones and a great choice of Canon lenses.
anu l Have you used a Z6? All mirrorless produce banding to diff degrees, especially in electronic shutter. I pull up shadows aggressively. Never faced a problem. So the banding is in very rare cases which can be easily avoided. But Zombie skin colour can’t be avoided and you can edit skin ONLY TO SOME EXTENT or else it loses its organic feel. So no, Sony’s behind in skin tones.
A few thoughts on the Nikon-everything about the video quality completely floored me, from the color science, to the detail, to the continuous autofocus, to the excellent in-body stabilization. I loved it, I much preferred the image from it to the Panasonic GH4 and GH5 that I've used before, more three-dimensionality and dynamic range. It was leagues ahead of the Canon 5D II I used for years. Picture quality is likewise amazing, especially low light, which seemed ridiculously clean and detailed. The FTZ adapter, on the other hand, was a mixed bag. On the lenses that it worked with, I found I got significantly better performance than on the D600 or D800. There were a lot of lenses that didn't work, though-older Sigmas, AF-D lenses of course, and crop sensor lenses with full-sensor coverage like the 35mm f/1.8 and the 10-20mm f/4-5.6 force you to use DX crop, unlike with FF DSLRs. I found the lenses I had depended on most, were not supported, meaning the $1800 I paid for the camera would need to double to get the lenses I would need. Also, because of the huge difference in flange distance and mount diameter, the FTZ adapter looked like a spaceship, and all of the F lenses looked silly and felt somewhat unbalanced on the Z6. So, I sent it back after two weeks, with many regrets. Now that the Fringer and Techart Canon EF-Nikon Z adapters have come out, I would seriously consider switching over again to the Z system and adapting Canon glass...
If i want to choose between Nikon z6 and sony a7r III, what can be best choice? Considering factors- 1. I'm going to do newborn, kids and maternity shoot (indoor & outdoor), so great auto focus would be my priority since kids move a lot. 2. I'm a Nikon user having f-mount lenses and want to upgrade to full-frame mirrorless, so if i go with sony, i might have to buy all new lenses. 3. I will consider shooting videos as part of story telling of kids, so again autofocus tracking is my priority. Please help me choose, I'm very confused...

I appreciate your thoughts as one who has used both. I have to think a IV will be out soon. Game changer or a tweak. I do love my Nikon DSLR.
Got the Z6 2 months ago. IT is by far the best camera I've ever used. It is just a fun experience

It's a good but old camera.
Someone said it in another video. You won’t be disappointed with any of these cameras
I thought it was extensive /budget friendly lenses!

I dunno. I’m a canon user and for professional video the canon R doesn’t make the grade. I’m seriously thinking about jumping ship.
R. Powell what are your options? I’m in the same boat, thinking to go blackmagic.
R. Powell these are not pro video cameras.
Also Nikon Z mount is the best when it comes to engineering.
It has the most potential.
@@BigBoss-gb4cx A potential that won't really be utilized, because nobody's gonna buy a 100mm f/0.7 except Bill Gates.

¿Witch one I should get?
the 1dx ii is a completely different bracket of cameras, in which case you can compare the a7riv or a9

There's not that much better than the A7 III unless you go into pro gear, or you want a photo camera solely to shoot video.
I just noticed you guys left “thecamerastoretv” hahaha. I think i was living under a rock. Great to see you guys again!

Round of applause for this amazing S1H footage. I know what I'm buying if the EOS R5 is pushed back too far or too expensive.
Should have taken the chance to put the S1 in too ;)
Yes...i was headed for the R then thought that if i was going to get the benefit of the system and native glass I would never pay the sort of money Canon want for their RF glass!
Everyone always complains about 4k video crop but for me, as someone who mainly uses video for macro, I find it to be a positive thing.
@@Faded.Visuals yup the 3rd parties are great alternatives, but I must have the latest sony GM's so I was willing to pay the premium.
@@Faded.Visuals Beautifully said and from my perspective kudos to Sony for doing that, they got a huge advantage by doing that.
RF lenses are NOT the same as Tamron or Sigma or Sony lenses!
Can I ask what DSLR did you have before that? I’m looking at getting the z6 or the d750
@@vagrantsneaker6514 thanks for the info
Flippy screens vs. fully articulated is 100% a question of personal preference. Personally ? I ditched the (otherwise really neat) EOS RP because of the articulated screen, and will never buy again anything BUT a tilt LCD, which are way better for still, imo ;)
I’ve got to admit the Nikon seems like a low key winner
I'am really interested to see how Canon's next generation R6&R5 are going to compete against Sony's a7 iv/a7r iv, after all these improvements they made in such a short time.
But there is still no replacement in sight for Nikon's Z6&Z7.
First place for video, Panny S1H. Why? Jordan uses it, not any of those 3.
Jordan is a beast.
Thanks for the video! In your opinion- which one would you use for youth sports?
Why haven't you also compared Panasonic system?
Panasonic Who?? Do they make cameras?
Just bought the A7iii last week. Very solid camera for both photo and video.
11:53 holy cow, for a second I thought it was a vertical photo and they were gonna put a comparison to the left (like how sometimes they did before) but it was a horizontal shot!
Haha, I thought the same!
A Sony A7iii user & Happy to have it.
(Basically I shot still Photos)
One thing is incorrect both Canon and Nikon Lenses offer way more than choices that Sony don’t even come close neither quality or quantity every Sony user has been adapting canon lenses for the longest and Nikon has some of the best class just use FTZ adapter Period plus all third party Manufacturer’s make lenses for canon and Nikon just use adapter I guess you forgot people have been using Canon EF mount Sigma 18-35 since it’s inception no one complained than, keeping on saying Sony has more lens choice is an incorrect statement
For some reason here (in Malaysia) Sony a7 III is the cheapest of the bunch in their respective online stores
The A7 series has been around for a while , i have seen in some stores they still sell the A72 in Australia , which i think from memory was not as good for video due to heat issues and having smaller battery i think ?
but people still buy them for stills for which they are still fine ,
and the later A73 is still a popular camera and a lot of them around which may explain the price ,
and that is another reason i like the A73 , i can buy all manner of accessories for my A73 just about any where , and because it is in the alpha series and some accessories are interchangeable with other models which really is a cool thing if you are a sony owner ..
What about battery life? That was a huge factor for me when choosing Sony A7 3. Had Nikon Z6 had a larger battery, I would have chosen that camera due to ergonomics.
Are you sure sonys Battery is better than nikons? Because i get over a thousand shots or a whole day of Video shooting out of one battery
@@frickseerose6146 the sony is pretty good mate , i couldnt tell you how many shots i get out of battery , it is pretty good though in my use , a thousand sounds pretty good though , what is your camera mate ?
Is the S1's AF really that bad? Even after the firmware updates?
@@goclick Actually for video is better than the Sonys.. for stills is ok too.
@@goclick Little to nothing , seriously??
Just the best ergos, best evf, best lcd, best built quality, best menu system, best touch control and responsiveness, best features, best lenses, best DR and shadow recovery, best image quality, dual type slot cards, image stacking, post/pre focus etc etc and after firmware update, actually very competitive autofocus and now the discounted price just to name a few..
And I'm Pentax and Sony shooter🧐
@@Photo-ms1mo how can it's contrast detect AF ever be competitive? that was huge mistake on their part.
@@j5daniel182Its competitive enough for me lol.
As a Pentax shooter for many years, I had Sony camera with contrast detect and was shooting hand-held sharp photos from the cars window, while driving it , but my Pentax with phase detect struggled even during landscape photos on the tripod on the bright day and was very unprecise, so I think both types can get developed over the years. For macro contrast focus is more precise too, so I use live view in my Pentax cameras with more success 😉
Another plus is no banding
fascinating how much weight people give to video performance. As a photographer I simply don't care about video.
I suppose content creators are the ones who are concerned about this, but an iphone's video is fine for me given that I rarely shoot any video at all
I have been watching this channel a lot recently and it makes me seriously convinced that Canadians don’t ever see the sun. Ever.
I see where you're coming from. But Calgary is one of the sunniest cities in the world with one of the highest average days of sun
And the quality is still excellent.
the canon 35mm f1.8. IS seems a lot cheaper compared to the 35 1.8 FE sony. The 85mm 1.8 is gonna be cheap too.
Ok then compare rf50 f1.2 with z50 f1.8 😅
Should I go ahead and get the a7iii or wait for a couple of months and get the a7iv
How about the Lumix S1
Already invested in the Fuji system. I was thinking of buying 5D Mark
iii as a second body as the lens can be found the reasonable price.
What’re your thoughts? Great video btw.
Stop teasing me with these cameras! I’m saving up for the r5
IamNeil aRon yes yes me too, can’t wait 😊 it’s like waiting for barbecue when it’s smelling delicious 😋
halfway into 2021.. the R5 is just around the corner..... :p
Keep on saving when Canon lunches the r5mark2 you will be able to afford the r5. Witch will cost around 3700 easy.
Ivan Kiefer lol. Sounds about right.
R5 or maybe R6 for me but at least a year after launch when the premium on the price has been removed and more time for Sigma, Tamron etc to start coming out with 3rd party glass
Hey guy's the ftz adaptor ...it works with all my lens, including the 1 st gen of nikon 70-200 f/2.8 all my sigmas...and even older sigmas like the 17-50mm f/2.8 also tokina works with them, so it isn
Thanks! I’m so happy to hear that :) -Sony A7III owner
What have you heard?
It'd be great if you brought Lumix S1 into the battle but...great video! (And Z6 not Z7 in the title)
Half a year ago, I bought the Nikon Z6 standard suit. Now I have taken a lot of photos. Recently, I am waiting for the 70-200 new lens to be sold

What about Panasonic? (You Could have Made the clip with the gh5…)
Alexander Stehle beats the tails off these cameras in the video realm for sure, but these are more FF hybrid cameras that can shoot great photos and relatively good video
Good video. I'm thinking about getting a Canon EOS R
Great choice. There's a slight crop in 4k recording but apart from that you're getting the best AF, best colors including dynamic range and skin tones and a great choice of Canon lenses.
I’m very happy with my z6,,,
I think it would have been good to include the Panasonic S1 this time, but from what I have seen, it can be hard to get one lately.
Nikon image quality is better than Sony period.
This video is finally still merely an autofocus test.
Nikon causes banding in photos. But Yes in video, 10 bit will create better results.
anu l Have you used a Z6? All mirrorless produce banding to diff degrees, especially in electronic shutter. I pull up shadows aggressively. Never faced a problem. So the banding is in very rare cases which can be easily avoided. But Zombie skin colour can’t be avoided and you can edit skin ONLY TO SOME EXTENT or else it loses its organic feel. So no, Sony’s behind in skin tones.
@@anulearntech This banding requires use of 100 ISO and shadows pushed up 6 stops. So if your goal is to take a shitty photo, its all yours !
Now that the Fringer and Techart Canon EF-Nikon Z adapters have come out, I would seriously consider switching over again to the Z system and adapting Canon glass...
ya'll need to stop it with the flip screen, it's not that big of a deal to most working photographers
Nikon Z6 recording OMG 12 bit 4:2:2 ProResRAW, from full sensor this is ultimate feature!!!
Wow...a73 camera of the year...again. that is after the spectacular Fujifilm XT4...and perhaps the Canon Bros, the R5/R6.
If i want to choose between Nikon z6 and sony a7r III, what can be best choice? Considering factors-
