I've kept my Aizen video on the backburner for years because I always like to have a very specific point to make. Well, that time is now. Hope you enjoy!
What makes him such a great antagonist to me is Aizen’s defection from Gotei 13. The reason it weights so heavy is because he was one of the most promising soul reapers to have ever worn the mantle of a captain. A exceptional among exceptionals. A role model so to speak. Very polite and popular. Perfectly illustrated at the end of the arc where he abandons soul society and left them with Ichigo. Aizen is intelligent, polite, ambitious , patient, calm, professional, talented and teaching Ichigo is loud, compassionate, impatient, funny, headstrong, rowdiness, sarcastic and emotional Ichigo became what Aizen didn’t want to be for his former colleagues . He was able to somewhat fill the void after a declaration of war when everything settled down. Ichigo is already regarded as a legendary hero that will go down in history. As Aizen will forever be the eyesore of soul society.
Aizen Sōsuke is more than a villain, he is a philosophical paradox wrapped in a god-complex. His declaration *“No one has ever stood at the top of the heavens... I alone shall stand there”* isn’t just arrogance, it’s a manifesto. It encapsulates his rejection of the natural order, not out of rebellion, but because he sees it as inherently flawed, a house of cards built on lies. What makes Aizen compelling is the depth of his conviction. He’s not merely evil for evil’s sake, he’s a seeker of ultimate freedom. Aizen’s intellect is as intoxicating as it is isolating. His disdain for those who can’t match his vision isn’t just arrogance, it’s frustration. In his world, he carries the unbearable burden of understanding. And when he finally lashes out, condemning Urahara for accepting the status quo, it’s a rare, raw moment that humanizes him. Aizen is not just a villain; he’s an idea, a challenge to the very fabric of Bleach’s universe, and imo, to ours as well.
His god tier ego went insane when he discovered the that 'god' of reality is a desecrated corpse, made that way and drained of his unknowable power by the comparatively weak for their ambitions. He wishes to be an autonomous god that rules by his will and not be a puppet. Ironically it makes him no different than the Shinigami ancestors.
Aizens ego is just one part of his mildly childish attitude. There have been a few moments scattered across bleach in which Aizen acts like a child at times for some. I think that's an intentional thing by Kubo. When caught by Urahara and asked what he's doing he replies with "nothing. I just found them like this". Not an exact quote but on those lines. That's the exact response a small child would have to being found out. Obviously he is slightly trolling here but still. I wouldn't point it out but then it happens again against Yamamoto when Yama berates him as evil for making Wonderweiss suffer as a mindless tool. Aizen replies with "you're the one who killed him" as if to reflect blame on Yamamoto. Again, it's a typical childish comeback to being called out. As a child we often say "no you did it" as soon as we're pressured for doing something wrong.
@@kakashihatake1029 Aizen stated that even if he would have shared his true intentions with his fellow soul reapers, they wouldn’t understand. In jujutsu kaisen, Geto (another rebel) thought nobody would understand him and was called childish.
@@kakashihatake1029 That's less of being childish and more of being an entitled b***. He's a sociopathic egomaniac who never understood what it meant to be weak. When somebody on his level of intellect gets the better of him, he gets pissed because that one person never shared his idealogy and chose the complete opposite path to him. The only person more brilliant than him failed to understand him, or rather, he did but didn't care for it. His whole speech to Shinji;- telling him to place his faith in god as in referring to himself, aizen wants to take the burden of ruling the realms as a single being upon himself, except he'd be a true god involving himself in the affairs of the mortal realms as the one at the top. What Kubo intended was for Aizen to be an ambiguous villain;- so nobody could understand and relate to him.
hot take but think that even though Aizen looks down on most everyone there are 3 people that he respects two of which are begrudgingly, and these 3 people are Kaname, Kisuke , and Ichigo. He respects them for 3 different reasons individually. He respects Kaname because he can relate to him interims of their ideals and goals. He respects Kisuke because he can relate to his intellect, and he respects Ichigo because he can relate to his transcendent power.
Aizen is a very complex character, I think he has a different tone in the way he's speaking after being let out of muken, almost as if he's trying to understand ichigos' path and the difference between them and their approach to situations, I think he finds ichigo interesting, similar to urahara. But I also think he has a different perspective on the world than most in bleach.
I actually think momo was correct that Aizen is lost and needs saving. Andnif ichigo said he felt loneliness.Aizen was thinking he fooled her..but I think momo DID see that loneliness in Aizen
I tend to jokingly refer to Aizen, Ichimaru, & Tousen as Megatron/Galvatron, Starscream, & Soundwave...the parallels are closer than you may think. • Aizen > Megatron: The charming but ruthless leader, corrupted by the very mission he started out on. (Yes, this is more akin to IDW Megs than G1 Megs) Doesn't give a bird's balls who he has to get rid of to achieve his goals (THIS is more like G1 Megs), as everything he touches is "food for my hunger...my hunger for power!!" • Aizen > Galvatron: This is after his evolution but also when he starts goin' bonkers as his plans are crumbling into nothing and it's driving him up a wall. At this point, there are zero fucks given, it's time to just burn it all to the ground like Flame Hyenard from Rockman X7... • Ichimaru > Starscream: *OBVIOUSLY*, you can't have your charismatic to crazy evil leader without having his infamously conniving right hand man. From the outset, you could tell something wasn't quite on point with this guy. But unlike your typical Starscream, we actually get an explanation for why Gin Ichimaru is such a conniving, plotting McBastard...mans wants revenge for what Aizen's other underlings did to his boo Rangiku...yesss. Sucks he wasn't able to get it, but he had no real chance to begin with. • Tousen > Soundwave: Oh, com'on, do I even have to go there? Let's ignore that he looks like Soundwave, he's also that one that's ferociously devoted to the cause. On the flip side, it was touched upon WAY BEFORE the Arrancar arc and the Fake Karakura Town arc that Aizen ain't ain't care about this clown - remember that Aizen said that he "never considered anyone to be my lieutenant except Gin". So unlike your typical Megs-Screamer-Wave trio, Tousen was absosmurfinlutely expendable from the start and never realized it. (And like Gin, Kaname kicked the bucket without ever having obtained what he sought out: justice for his slain friend)
FINALLY bro dropped it! 🔥Wish you would've made it longer tho! Wanted to see ur thoughts on his poems and "gazing into the sun". Also his subconscious manfiesting and wanting to actually lose to Ichigo. Or moreso his desire in general for someone to relate to. Either way, great vid bro! 🫡
An interpretation I have of Aizen's character is that he has a strong disdain for presumption and insincere personal relationships. I mainly think of his disdain for Momo's total veneration and for Shinji's presumptuous suspicion. In his eyes, to love or hate blindly is worse than the very deception he carries out. Compare those two relationships with his and Tosen's and you can see why he valued him so much as a comrade. They both know exactly what each other wanted and what they were deep down and had a mutual understanding to keep each other honest with themselves. This begs the question, if Aizen has so much contempt for insincerity, does he then desire the very opposite? After all, the Soul King does literally represent a "false god", or a "false peace and order".
@@alakane2183 I guess when I mean sincerity, I don't mean in the sense of always wearing your heart on your sleeve, but rather a more intuitive sense of self-actualization, rather, being honest with oneself and as a result also honest to those who have the eyes to see it (ie Tosen). To be clear, I'm just playing devil's advocate and trying to understand the character's potential rationalizations.
The issue with Aizen is he has the potential to outlive all of our other favorite characters and becoming something so powerful that he mirrors Adnyeus himself. The way hes written he could easily become the protagonist of Bleach 20000 years later if kubo wishes it and it would still make sense.
