Some people complain about how long it takes an engine BUILDER (not an assembler) to complete a job. You can see why in Brent's videos: - Meticulous attention to all the little details. - Double checking everything. - Waiting on parts - Finding and fixing manufacturer's defects Plus the really good engine builders have a lonnng queue of customers who KNOW the quality work that is done and are willing to wait for it.
I recently started to watch your build Videos. By far the best FE videos. Beyond the content and technical tips, the concise way you edit and deliver content is what is compelling me to watch more. Too many repeat themselves and all talk no action. I’m going to take it in. Keep it up.
I had the 460 in my 78f250 rebuilt the first and last time back in 2015. I gave them the green light to work on it in late january 2015. I didnt get it back until july 2015, so because of that he said he wouldnt charge me $400 for the replacement 460 block. Then later in 2017 i had to have it rebuilt again...but i certainly didnt take it to the same place. Turns out 1. He didnt put the hatchet style counterweight on which had my engine out of balence. I thought it was because i had him put a cam with a 498 lift in it and 2. The oil pump pickup fell off because he didnt tack weld it at the pressed on fitting section. The 460 got bored 20k the first time and now because it wasnt getting any oil to the cylinders they got scored and thankfully because i always kept a eye on my oil gauge the cylinders only had to be rebored 10k. Anyway sometimes i have to drive by the 1st shop and it appears that it has closed its doors. I sure hope so. The business was called all-tech performance in burton michigan. I also no longer take any of my vehicles to Chris' automotive in fenton michigan. They didnt do the engine rebuild another shop did it the 2nd time but they apparently put non break-in oil in it and wiped out the cam, so Chris had the 2nd engine shop rebuild the engine another time a few weeks later and at his own cost. I dont do business with people who treat people that way. Now i have a 360fe or a 390fe in another 70's ford pickup and it smoked ever since the transporter took it off his trailer. Brent i might be giving you a call later in 2025. Lol. I know i will be giving you a call for sure.
Could you have welded up the oil pump flang adding more material then grind it smooth??. Just a thought.. Love your videos.. Thank you for your knowledge 💪🏽 USA 🇺🇸 USA 🇺🇸 USA 🇺🇸
I would like to know what thickness of a ring you're using, And don't remember what brand you said they were, What type of break in oil do you use also thank you
I have a 1974 f100 pickup that was missing the original 390 when i bought it which sucked. Someone had converted it to a u-haul pickup so it had the baby 330TE in it. I wouldve liked to have the 390 eventhough i plan on putting a '74 460 engine in it.
@@lykinsmotorsports I will check with my supplier in my 486 FE. It’s a Bill Stroppe designed solid roller cam with significant lift and duration, that I am really happy with.
Love your video’s and just found that you did a 352, and an FE with a flat plane crank. Those are both projects I have pondered and am thrilled to watch those soon.
Brent said he hated the red cap because he thought it looked to be cheaply made. I myself like the blue or blue caps. I have a blue cap with stock points in my 78f250 with a '79 460.

Love your videos Brent. With all the knowledge I am getting from you, makes me want to build my 427 that my dad had running back in the late 60s.
Looks amazing! Great job and thanks for the highly enjoyable videos. My truck needs some of this good stuff.

Love your ring compressor
Another great video, will be ordering all my parts form you soon
Great video with great detail. Thanks as always.
I have to build one. This is great information .

Enjoyed this. Keep them coming.
Love your videos I have a question I have a 352 what is the largest displacement you can get out of it safely?
Bore it to a 390 size piston then add a 428 crank. This will give you 410 cubic inches. Mercury used this size FE in 1966 and 67.
Brent, what do you use for final wipedown of the block deck, crank etc just before assembly?

1mm/1mm/2mm. Mahle. I use Valvoline VR1 on roller engines.
D4TE is a 1974 block. What year block is more durable? My 385/460 blocks D0VE (1970) and D1VE (1971) were miles apart.

I typically change the distributor gear to Bronze. Can you comment on why you use the steel gear over the bronze?
Bronze simply just doesn't last long. It's best to match the materials of the cam and distributor gear. If it's a steel cam, it gets a steel gear.

I bought a bronze gear for my 460 when it gets rebuilt. Do you like the bronze dizzy gear?
Why do you not like the red cap?
Haha, I hate them too. Just don’t like that Red on a Ford Blue block. Yuck
