    One of the best oil mods is to clean up the casting and taper the oil returns In the lifter valley to help the oil drain back to the bottom

    All of those mods should be done before the block goes to the shop to be vat cleaned. And I personally would remove the cam bearings before aligning the oil holes to the mains because there is a oil groove in the block under the cam bearings and all of those iron shavings are going straight down to the cam bearings. There is also a oil return hole at the bottom end of each head that I blend in to keep oil from puddling up and makes it easier for oil drainage back to the crankcase.

    Great video, again! I especially liked the blueprinted oil pump with safety wire no less. Having worked on older jet aircraft for over two decades, safety wire was standard operating procedure. Small details like this and the attention to detail on the oil galley mods are what make your videos reall shine!

    I drilled my pump to filter passage , filter thru block (1/2) up to the turn and down from the gallery. Then through the gallery 7/16. Tapped and plugged all the holes so I can keep the thing from bleeding internally and tapped and restricted the heads to . 090 going to the rockers

    Another great video. Completely watchable. I sometimes don’t have an hour to spare, but 15-20 minutes is awesome. I am wondering if I can get an FE into my COE project. I may have to go 289 or 302.

    Hey just a heads up you sometimes can lighten up those pistons drilling weight off the inside used to be a cheat in claimer engines when we would knife edge a factory crank we would have to cut weight on the factory dome pistons to keep from using to much heavy metal during the balance job

  • @donolbers9446

    A couple things with tapping holes, coat the tap with grease, to help catch chips, but more importantly, lubricate the tap and the threads. Second, get two taps, and grind the end of one of them so it doesn't bottom out in the hole as quickly. When grinding it, go slowly, and keep dipping it in water to keep it cool.

    • @ericpalmer2831

      I think you mean cutting fluid, not grease. There is a difference. Something like TAP Magic.

    Don't forget that thick-wall moly distributor/oil-pump driveshaft. On your next build vid, show the god-awful factory skinny hex version next to the thicker version. Go ahead & tell the tragic story behind pumps that "lock up".

    • @OmarRamirezGalaxie
      @OmarRamirezGalaxie  2 года назад +1

      Yep! I had a 289 where the shaft twisted like a pretzel. Definitely won’t be going stock on that

  • @ksacky

    You didn't bore out main galley on top to 7/16 inch, doesn't do much good to increase rear passages to 7/16 if main galley is 3/8 inch. Raced these for years and did that to keep mains oiled. Make sure there is no restriction from oil pump to main galley in center of lifter valley, open up main passages to mains, you have to have main bearings removed to open up to main galley, otherwise they love to spin rod bearings.

  • @siaripop7
    @siaripop7 2 года назад

    I don't think you had to open up those holes or the crank bearings because the bearings don't move at all, just the crank. Part of my concern is that you might create turbulence in the oil flow around those holes!

    • @OmarRamirezGalaxie
      @OmarRamirezGalaxie  2 года назад +1

      Possibly! I don’t think anyone has done a scientific test yet to really see how it affects the flow in that area. I figured a small bevel wouldn’t hurt, but I guess we’ll see once I start this engine haha

    • @garyrobinson388

      Restriction of oil flow/presence is the reason for opening them up.

      @@OmarRamirezGalaxie Yes, Dave Shoe did actually do the testing and fluid dynamics on the mods. The holes on the offset main bearings should not be drilled larger but chamfered from feed under the offset holes. Also the main feed was drilled out to 7/16. Ford Power Parts used to do this as well as the pump to block opening. Doug at Precision is great. I have his pump, rockers, shafts and plug kit/ restrictors as well. With .0025 main and rod clearances I have 25 psi at idle hot ( 900 rpm) and 60 psi hot at cruise ( 3000 rpm)
