Just to add to it...if you have the Respect Your Elders trait, sacrificing an elder will cause a harsh drop in faith. Also if you attack the snail behind the worm vender multiple times he will attack you but if you win he will give a devotion shrine
Respect your elders gives faith each time a follower reaches old age. And the shrine you get from the snail is different than what you are thinking of. The shrine you get from the snail is a monster shrine as a nod to the devs of the game, you can unlock a new follower form by prayingto it at night i believe. The devotion shrine is unlocked through the shrine in the middle of the base
Great tips! I actually let my old die and built graves and held funerals for them. It essentially makes a devotion farm, since your followers will pray at all the graves and it also increases their loyalty. Loved this game and the recent patch fixed pretty much all of my issues with it.
I did this but the issue was that it took me wayyy too long to beat the game, and since followers live such short lives I had a huge graveyard going on and I kept having to make new graves just to bury all the dead followers, it seemed like there were always followers dying of old age every time I left to do a run, so I was holding funerals practically every day I was with my cult
You’re not kidding about the lumber! I struggled a bit, but I got the lumber mine as soon as I could. Great tip about the dissenters as missionaries! I’m gonna try that.
Resurrection is your best friend in this game you can keep your followers leveling up making them more and more useful for missionary missions and taking with you as demons in the dungeon
I found that it was a good idea to wait a couple in-game days between recruiting followers. If you indoctrinate multiple followers on the same day then they might all die on the same day as well and that causes all kinds of issues.
Only do rituals when necessary since bones are very easy to run out of and the only way to get them is to grind the dungeons. Also don’t be afraid of building new things, you will figure out their usefulness later. Also as soon as possible, build a lumberyard and quarry and regularly rebuild them when they break down, gives you a good constant flow of resources after the early game when there is no more trees or rocks to get resources from.
If I remember there is a place where you start unlocking an ability and enemies spawn for you to kill with the ability. It will spawn ENDLESS ENEMIES until you use the ability. So you can absolutely just farm that for as long as you possibly can and then use the ability and have like 2k bones to use for your dark reasons... Although you will return to a camp that hates you obviously for being gone so long
I like to spend the nights I have in the cult hunting spiders, as morsels can make a fairly basic meal (with the downside of 10% chance of causing exhaustion which can go away if you tell the cultist to take a nap). I've discovered that they seem to be drawn to dropped items to attempt to carry them away, so if you kill one others tend to rush towards the spot where the first morsel fell which makes it easy to squish the majority of the ones spawned if not all of them. Also the little glowing 'fireflies' that appear at night too can also be caught for 1-3 points of devotion, just learned that today. Just ideas of things to do if you're spending an overnight at the cult and have nothing to do while waiting for the cult members to get up so you can sermon them. Also, I like to have a follower lined up ready to convert even when my cult is full - that way when one member dies I've another sap ready to fill their bed. ;)
Okay, so, here's my FAVORITE strat. You get Belief in Sacrifice and Respect Your Elders. You essentially get free devotion for elderly, and then you get more devotion upon sacrificing them - you still get the Belief in Sacrifice bonus! I also like the perk that gives you devotion every day you don't have someone imprisoned.
Instead of the "Respect your elders" trait, choose the "good die young" doctrine. This is unlocked at afterlife three and will give you more devotion from your followers when an elderly follower is sacrificed or murdered, but loose substantially more when they die of natural causes. Combine this with the cannibal trait you can unlock instead of the grass-eater perk, and you can harvest their meat to feed to your other followers for extra devotion while sacrifice is on cool down so you don't lose faith (especially with the belief in sacrifice trait and the murder follower action). Yes, I'm an evil prick. Don't judge me. Not all followers are created equal. And if you can find ways to get the most out of each and every one than you can afford to spend that extra bit of coin early on that will pay for itself in time and not be particularly exclusive while maximizing devotion.
Man, I set up districts in my village by theme, put walls up, roads, lampposts. The districts are just different sleeping areas with themes and walls, such as rocky, or boney decorations
There is also a doctrine where you can use a ritual to revive a follower. It's nice for your favorites, so you don't lose them forever + since some things rely on the level of your follower (like mission success rate and how well they help you on a run as demons) you can continue to level up the followers you like ^^
Meanwhile I just name my new followers after my OG friend whose sister I gave a longevity amulet and then proceeded to marry her after he died. He was around when I defeated the bishops basically from the beginning.
I’ve got some tips from someone who finished the entire game (up to the sins of the flesh update drop). I haven’t watched the video fully, so if these tips are the same in the video, I apologize. *GET THE GRASS EATER TRAIT.* This trait helps your followers eat grassy gruel without losing faith and you don’t have other food ingredients. It’s been something I’ve been using for a couple of months now and I love it. Losing faith is the worst possible thing to happen in the game (other than other things more major) because you need your faith to survive. It’s best to pause your faith while feeding them food. *GET BETTER FLEECES.* Getting fleeces using pieces of holy talisman is the most important thing for your crusades other than weapon and curse picks. There are so many good fleeces that have amazing perks that I’ve used. I’ve been using the (I believe it’s called) “Fleece of the Fervours Curse”, which lets you use your fevour to replace your hearts in desperate situations. I’ve also been using (I believe it’s called) “The Fleece Of The Fates”, which lets you draw 4 tarot cards on a start of the run, but you cannot draw anymore during your crusade. I usually get all the good ones, but they are a variety for everyone. Some fleeces I don’t recommend are these: (I’m not listing their names this time) - The Golden Fleece - The Green Poofy Fleece - Blue Fleece - Purple Fleece *GET THE RESURRECTION RITUAL.* This ritual is really helpful for many reasons. For one, if you had a follower with a high level, you can revive them and keep leveling them up until they reach the max. There are so many other reasons to resurrect them, but that’s just a good one I remembered. *RAISE YOUR FOLLOWERS LOYALTY EVERYDAY.* Raising your followers loyalty can help with many things in the game. These can be used to unlock the entrances to the dungeons holding the undead bishops to indoctrinate them in your cult after a boss fight. It also helps the chances of survival in a missionary. And, of course, more reasons. *BUY AS MUCH FOLLOWERS AS YOU CAN.* Before doing this, however, make as much beds as you can before indoctrinating them into your cult. Make extra beds for other followers to sleep in the future. Use your gold wisely, however. When you have a Helob encounter during a crusade, buy a follower. Or, get one next to silk cradle. Do this 1-3 times during one play through. This prepares you for more followers and helps you unlock areas, upgrades, help you get more resources, and other perks. Buy as much as you can. *SAVE YOUR DIVINE INSPIRATION.* Saving your divine inspiration is pretty helpful. I mostly regret getting something I don’t want as an upgrade just yet, and cannot get my divine inspiration back. So, save some. Get 3 full divine inspiration upgrade passes and you can use them for one stupid or just, whatever you want. *GIVE YOUR FOLLOWERS NECKLACES.* The necklaces give your followers perfect perks that I find useful, like the moon necklace, which keeps your follower awake and at work all night. Or, give them any necklace with a helpful perk, such as one that increases loyalty, or lets them never dissent. *BREAK THE WOODEN DUMMIES AT THE START OF A CRUSADE.* If your low on wood, or just want to stock some more up for later, your gonna wanna break the dummies. They give good rewards and some lumber. This tip is a short one since it’s not needed an explanation. I’ll make some more later if I get reminded and people actually like my tips :)
Equip the Golden Fleece by the end of the run you can pretty much one shot every boss. You can recycle necklaces from dead followers. Fishing is a quick way to get coin and food. Play Knuckle-Bones for easy money in the early game.
@@RandonPersom542 Nab them off the corpses, do it at night though. Your followers get a bit priggish if they catch you in the act. And you know what they say, snitches get sacrificed for the good of the group.
Great video and tips!! It's very rare for me to finish even short-ish games so soon after getting them, and I finished the main storyline of this on the weekend!! It really got its hooks into me and I found the balance between resource and cult management really rewarding, as it made the crusade runs themselves feel special and not like a chore in itself. And now it's just a lovely demonic farming sim, what more could I want 😊
a fun easter egg for all, you can speed up time in the game by holding L on pc. idk what button it is for console but yea u can make time go faster so your followers can worship or refine materials faster !
Also when you peer to the darkness and the man asked for either followers or half your own heart *give him the follower's* cuz the half a heart thing is *permanent* I didn't know this and now I'm missing half a heart forever.
I add one when you get a Slytherin always go for the naked one sure they won't do any work but you'll get an ultimate sin that means you could get more workers from babies to adults
another good thing if you have the cannibal trait and murder ability you can kill the elders in the night for free food i have been doing it for a while and its pretty good
I don't believe them taking something with them to go poo was a glitch..... Primitive man wiped his bum on everything from rocks to leaves to parts of clay jars...... I think it's an imitation of this history.
I started a new game recently, somehow i didn’t get the trophy for unlocking all the areas so trying it again - I’d forgotten how much of a grind the early game is.
I disagree with the food tip. Don't stress yourself too much about the 2 and 3 stars. If you have it, sure give it to them otherwise, the 1 star berry and pumpkin dishes would do. They don't have the high buffs but they'll get your cultists stuffed and ready to work. I agree with the rest. Especially with the lumber. Make at least 3 lumberyards if you can. You will run out of lumber FAST. Also, just to add, do sermons everyday. It gives you powers and raises the cult's faith.
Once you feel established. Outhouse 2 and make like 5-6. I hate cleaning poop, so much time gets wasted picking up poop even though you need it to better sustain the farms
I have this in nintendo switch ❤ i love it! But the game starts to lag when I hit 35 members 😂 planning to purchase ROG ally so I can play this on handheld..
Taking care of your cult is extremely important, because if you have 0 followers, you're at risk of losing the entire game. You'll get a 2 day notice to get at least 1 follower, and failure to do so, the Lamb's life will come to a tragic, permanent end, and your save file is erased. If you have the doctrine that lets you get hearts by eating, eat a meal of follower meat. It'll give you two black hearts instead of just one blue heart.
they are temporary and they only last for one crusade. it buffs you during your crusades for eg giving you an extra heart or inflicting poison damage to enemies you attack. usually you choose one card of 2 when you meet clauneck (a guy who provides tarot cards during runs). you have to unlock new tarot cards if you want to use tarot cards you don’t have in runs
I personally recommend more getting the Cannibal trait because the Minced Follower Meat has very good bonus effects, as 40% chance to make a follower stop to dissenter and (if im not wrong) your followers wont find you suspect when harvesting a dead follower's meat (Also, grass food is bad anyway, it is just emergency food and later in the game, you hardly use it)
