    What is your favorite GoPro mount and why? Also, have you ever put yourself in the hospital while filming? 🙋‍♂

    • @ilanpi
      @ilanpi 2 года назад

      My favourite is the Alpitude Stelvio which is a computer mount with an optional GoPro adapter. It fixes onto the stem bolts. It is very light, about 18 grams. It is also quite long, which makes it easy to push the buttons on my cycling computer. I need to use a stem mount for my track bikes, because there is no room on my track bars, Velobike Bunch Bars and 3T Scatto, to clamp an ordinary computer mount or GoPro mount. I have sent myself to the hospital, but by incorrectly setting up my cassette. However, my GoPro was running, so I also managed to immortalise my crash. By the way, I don't know if you realise this, but in my experience, GoPro won't pick up GPS when upside down. So to display speed in a video using these mounts including yours, you need to synchronise with your bicycle computer in post production.

      @TheRidewithBenDelaney  2 года назад

      Haven’t heard of that one; will check it out. I also didn’t know about the speed being turned off when upside down. I haven’t synced ride data with video for a while. The Garmin Virb did an okay job of that, but honestly I don’t think anyone cares about my ride metrics. Glad to hear you got your crash video for posterity! 😂 Cheers.

      I like to use the KOM top mount go pro adapter. I set the go pro where the computer usually goes and then mount the Garmin computer with the bands elsewhere. Keeping the GoPro on a quarter turn top mount let's me quickly grab the camera for different angles.

      @@TheRidewithBenDelaney By the way, I recorded my fastest ever bicycle speed while in the hospital. After my crash, I was taken to hospital in an ambulance and my bicycle was eventually picked up by the police and my GPS computer kept recording in the police car.

    Moral of the story, no vertical video! Human vision is horizonal! In all seriousness I have the K-edge & love it. I do use a hero 7 black in a cage, so usually just leave cage on the bike & pop the came on & off. On smooth surfaces< I can even do it while riding. Great videos, keep them coming!

    • @TheRidewithBenDelaney
      @TheRidewithBenDelaney  2 года назад +1

      Haha, no doubt! I'm with you - I love K-Edge and have used the pop-outta-the-cage for handheld stuff - including all that footage at the end from Italy. Ironically, I dropped and broke the rear screen of my 9 when filming this! Just dropped it in a gravel parking lot. Not riding or anything. Doh!

    The mount that came with my Garmin works great. I did have to buy the Flange Mount Adapter separately. Buy two adapters so you can also use one for a light.

    Cool mount. I use the garmin version of this mount on all of my bikes...I have multiple garmin female clips (the red piece in the video) to use with lights, go-pro, aeropod power meter, etc. Makes it so easy to move accessories from one bike to another.

      Another thing to consider: DJI has a magnetic clip mount that goes under the bike computer. That is only relevant if you are shopping for an action cam though and not just the mount.

    Thanks for the great review. While perhaps a mundane topic, I had been trying to find a quick release GoPro mount to work with my Garmin Varia. I have Enve Aero bars so I couldn’t use a standard bar mount. The KOM stem mount has worked very well for me. I haven’t noticed much flex but I use for a light and not a camera. I would love to see the key adapters available, but understand why KOM doesn’t do that. Keep up the great content.

    Ben, I will be riding the 50 mile UB race , June 3,on my new BMC e gravel bike. I will be 76 this August and look forward to this challenge. My BMC came with an extended computer mount for my Wahoo. I want to mount a DJI action camera underneath to capture sections of the ride ,and definitely like the quick release setup so I can easily remove the camera for additional, candid shots before, during and after the race to tell a complete “ story”.I was able to get an additional accessory from BMC to mount underneath, but not completely clear the components you show to make the final connection to the camera. I would greatly appreciate any specific descriptions, mfg. name, etc for these items. Many thanks, Bob C. 🤗

      Ben, I received a connector from BMC that connected a 3 leg extender under my Wahoo mount and I just received the Surewo Quick Release Base Mount Kit. My daughter and boyfriend loaned me their Go Pro Black Hero 7 with cage and it connected with this quick release. I totally love the strong magnetic connection and the safety of a 1/4 turn to secure the attached camera during rough riding. Very easy to turn the quick release and pull the magnetic connection to then hold camera for candid shots at the start and finish or on a paved, non rough section. I will try to attach photos

      Hey Trung. Good looking out. I will check that out. I have a couple Garmin mounts that were intended for use with the additional Garmin battery - like for when DK/Unbound 200 was getting popular and battery life couldn't quite keep up. Those have a little rotating circle that lock things on the bottom. Is that Varia mount the same?

    • @TrungNguyen-kv5ls
      @TrungNguyen-kv5ls 2 года назад

      @@TheRidewithBenDelaney You'll have to get a different mount. I believe it's called the Garmin Varia Universal Out-front mount. It has a quarter turn male adapter on the bottom, similar to what you showed in the video and you'll still need a female adapter to attach to the GoPro. Unfortunately, after playing with the mount and trying to find all the GoPro pieces, I don't think it offers any advantage over the KOM system.

    I have one of the KoM cycling computer mounts, and for some reason, the computer sits slightly skewed (twisted) to the right despite constantly trying to adjust it. My OCD cannot tolerate this and it was only on the bike for one ride and I ditched it for a K-Edge - not looking back.

    • @TheRidewithBenDelaney
      @TheRidewithBenDelaney  2 года назад

      I hear you. The early Wahoo mounts on many bars would set the computer at an imperfect angle, which made my eyes cross.

    • @TheRidewithBenDelaney
      @TheRidewithBenDelaney  2 года назад

      Yeah, that's the thing... the male Garmin piece is typically molded to, well, Garmins. KOM sells the red female piece with the GoPro/light attachment separately. So that's cool. We just need to find a good source for male Garmin pieces that will bolt on. A few places sell them for gluing on, but I haven't found anywhere that sells this piece with two bolt holes. My ideal situation would be a one-piece metal K-Edge mount with this KOM attachment.

      Totally secure. I have used it for a number of gravel races with zero problems. The mount itself is a little flexible, so hard bumps will make it wiggle a little. But GoPro’s stabilization is so good that it’s a problem.

    Wow, this is poor content. First, you can do the same thing with a standard Garmin mount. Also, KOM makes a metal Garmin mount with the same features. Plus, you can achieve the same quick release effect with any mount with a GoPro lobe mount using a GoPro to Garmin male adapter.
