Thanks Josh, for your great high quality videos. I also appreciate you’re editing skills and music choice. Keep up the good work! I’ve been cycling for 45 years, but thanks to you, only a few weeks ago for the first time, used my GoPro to make a short video of me cycling, including a shot where I left the GoPro at the side of the road to film my cycling by.

Love the videos and there's something great that comes from your simple setup. a couple of friends have had great luck with Apple Airpod Pros paired with an iPhone, over the Rode wireless mic. The benefit being they're lighter/simpler and have great noise cancellation, plus when you're not filming you've got a set of earbuds. They're not the most "pro" looking option, but then I think not being "pro" is what makes RUclips (and your videos) so great. Not being slick and overly produced, run what you brung, all showing that sometimes things are hard, all wraps up to some excellent content.

Thank you, Josh. I like to ride slow and take photos, solo. Up until now all of my touring shots have been static and of the bike or views where I ride and not adding interest or telling the story. But watching your excellent videos has inspired me to do better. Great work.

Nice video showing all that doubling back on yourself to get those shots!
The Rode Wireless Go mics *can* be used without the receiver unit plugged into the camera. In other words, you can use it as a standalone microphone and recorder. The downside is that you'll have to manually sync up the sound and images if you're doing a piece to camera.
If you just want to record, you could use a Rode SmartLav or VideoMic Me microphone direct to your phone. But that may be an issue where you're shooting with your phone too.
Another, perhaps better option, might be the Zoom F2. It's a tiny recorder that comes with an included lav mic. Clip the mic on and pop the tiny recorder in your jersey pocket. There's no connection to your phone or camera (although a slightly more expensive Bluetooth version allows you to control it from the phone), but if you just want a mic/recorder combo that's tiny and cheaper than the more fully-featured Rode Wireless Go, it's worth looking at. Again, you'll have to do manual syncing of the audio to video with it when you're doing pieces to camera.

I have traveled to +40 countries on a motorcycle which offers a lot more space you can use to carry all your gear. Plus it gives me the freedom to charge all my devices (12v plug) while riding which proved to work well. You have my deepest respect for what you're doing!

Great video, thanks for a look at your behind the scenes. The simplicity of the iPhone is a reason I’m using it more and more in my bike riding video’s. Just whip it out of your back pocket and start recording. It’s also great for YT Shorts as you can video in portrait mode and immediately upload to YT from the iPhone. I’ve also used a 360 camera which is excellent for getting different perspectives with the same recording, there is a bit more editing work required with the 360 camera’s but i think it’s worth it. Keep up the great YT videos.

I'm sure someone may well have already said this in the comments but I'm 99% positive you don't need to connect the rode wireless go2 receiver to your phone as it has the capability to make internal recordings on the transmitter. You may need to go into the settings to enable/disable that but I'm pretty sure you can do it. Loads on vids on youtube about it. Loved the cycle home from china video. Wish I was brave enough (and 30 years younger)

This always kept me from shooting really good cinematic videos i guess. It would just suck to stop and think about good views etc. The hustle with making awesome footage. Can you really enjoy riding when you have to do all these "return rides" to pick up the cam and placing mobile phone on the ground and stuffing it back and taking out the drone and stuffing it back etc. This must be such a big big afford. So much work. I mean i really appreciate your work! It's awesome! But damn it... This still kind of holds me back a little. Thank you for the look behind. Cheers!

I love the democratising element of the iPhone, the SE model is especially cheap, and whilst the mic isn't great, the lens is superb. As you say, it provides its own edit suite and so with a little experimentation makes us all filmmakers. It is really a pocket computer with a vast array of bolt-on applications, and should have been called the iPod, not the iPhone. Doing away with a microphone makes you tell the story in the cut, Hitchcock would have approved of that. Is there any way of holding the iPhone in your mouth like the GoPro? That would free things up a treat.

I would recommend adding some sort fo 360 camera to the mix. The insta 360 can get rid of the pole you're holding it on, so you wont be relying on other cyclists to film to going along, and it wont have a big footprint on your already small setup.

Very interesting and informative, thanks. I am intending to up my video skills for my motorcycle rides. Presently, I use a few different cheap and cheerful Amazon action cameras which are really for any accident situations, but sifting through footage of the many rides this last summer, the quality of a GoPro would have made them even better.
I need to decide on a GoPro/ DJI Osmo/ Insta 360 cam for my helmet and bike frame rear, and either a small quality digital camera or upgrade my phone for entering the frame type shots as you do. My Drone is the mk1 DJI Mini, and still does nice footage.....when I remember to press 'record', that is!
